On our last visit, everything was pretty salty. I ordered the prime rib melt, but was very disappointed. Even the gator bites didn't taste like how I remembered them. The boudin balls were the saving grace. They were large (in comparison to the other boudin balls I've previously had) and very tasty. The sweet potato waffle fries weren't bad either. The health inspector must not pay attention during inspections. After walking past the kitchen and seeing a bucket of food that appeared to be etouffe sitting on the floor with no lid on it, a cardboard box of baked potatoes next to it, and see the waitresses spend more time circling up to gossip than actually paying attention to their tables..... I will never waste my money in this establishment again. Go try Big Thickett BBQ or another local spot in town. Watching the unsanitary practices by a waitress named Kaitlyn, who seemed to be in charge, and the laziness of majority of the group gave me enough reason to never waste my time having a meal here again.

THE SET-UP (why here?) This place was recommended to me by…read moreone of the school Principals in the area and it did not disappoint whatsoever! I was told to come to this place over the gas station across the street so I decided why not? I arrived at 10:38am only to find out that they don't open until 11am. Normally I would just leave but I was already shown a menu... specifically the Heart Attack was brought to my attention so I decided to wait around until they opened. THE PLACE The dining area is very small. Only six tables but when you get there at 11am you don't seem to have to fight to get a seat. The outside of the building leaves a lot to be desired aesthetically but this has never derailed me from eating at a place. I love a great dive. THE SERVICE I got to meet the owner and I had a great conversation with her about how long she has been at this location. Very friendly. Very polite. After a little conversation you would have thought that we've know each other forever. If you are experiencing really fast service then keep driving by. Everything here is made to order and made to order means made to wait a few minutes. Now keep in mind that I don't mind waiting for handmade burgers. I will take that over frozen patties any day. THE FOOD I ordered a Cajun Cheeseburger with Bacon as well as the Heart Attack Sandwich. They were very accommodating with service as I order two items knowing that I was only going to eat half the burger and half of the heart attack. The rest was to be boxed up so that I could take my wife the other half for her lunch. The burger was fresh and delicious. Could have been bigger but that's just me being nit-picky. I loved the added touch of the fried jalapeños slices on it! The heart attack was delicious. I inhaled half of it instantly. It could be the perfect hangover remedy! SYNOPSIS- I found a new great place to eat and I will be back again. 5 stars - its definitely worth a try and worth going a little out of the way to enjoy!

Babineaux's Cafe definitely met the criteria, it's definitely a part of the local history and culture. The exterior looks a little worn and the parking well it's random to say the least I think the locals here park wherever they feel comfortable and that's okay there's plenty of options. We were greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we walked in and found a seat without a wait although the place had already began to fill for lunch service. There's a lot of standard fare on the printed menus but my eyes went directly to the daily specials handwritten on the chalkboard which changes daily. The staff here is so efficient and quick to describe the specials and grab your drink order and of course they have freshly brewed sweet tea. After looking over the board I could not resist the home cooking option, a perfectly fried pork-chop, green beans, corn and of course a healthy portion of rice and gravy, it was outstanding so much like my momma made, we also ordered a club sandwich on toast, no frills just down home deliciousness. This is definitely a gem in the community and a must try if you want a taste of the local culture and to experience the unmatched hospitality from the people in southwest Louisiana, this is what I miss and always look forward to when returning to the state I was born and raised in...

It's not huge inside but we had no trouble getting a comfortable seat at lunchtime. There's a menu and there's a board of lunch specials. The friendly and attentive service couldn't be beat. If you see the grilled pork ribeye on the specials board you need to get it. The tastiest and most moist pork you may ever eat. The home cooked style vegetables will just make your meal a home run. We are already hoping that the timing on our next trip west coincides with lunchtime here and hopefully the grilled pork ribeye will be on the specials board.

The parking lot was empty and it didn't look open yet, but we turned out to be the first customers of the day. Service: From the start, service set a strong tone. The hostess was friendly, welcoming, and seated us promptly, clearly proud to show off the new, more spacious location with plenty of seating for groups of all sizes. Our server, Jada (who we later learned is a manager), was excellent: sweet, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and always a step ahead of our needs. She even made a fresh pot of coffee for our dessert order. If T-Doug is putting people like her in leadership, he's doing something right. Ambiance: The dining room still has that "new" feel. It's clean, well-lit, and comfortable. The décor is functional and inviting without trying too hard, which fits the place well. Food & Drink: The current menu doesn't appear to be updated on the website, but it's easy to find on their Facebook page. There's a lot to choose from, including steaks and higher-end options that would make this a good spot for a special occasion. Overall, the menu suggests broad restaurant experience rather than a one-note concept. I didn't explore the bar much, but it looked well-stocked enough to suit most tastes. We started with homemade onion rings, which were a pleasant surprise: uniform and skinny, crunchy, well-cooked, and nicely seasoned. Beverages: We had waters along with a Rum Punch and T-Doug's Lemonade. Both cocktails were light and refreshing, didn't taste like a dry mix, and were balanced just right. Enough rum and vodka to relax, not enough to make you lose your religion. Entrées: Solid all around. The fried combo dinner featured hand-battered fish and shrimp with crispy fries and hushpuppies. Everything was cooked properly and satisfying. The Cajun club came on Texas toast, quartered and stacked high on a thick wooden skewer that would come in handy if the parking lot got rough. Roast beef cold cuts, American cheese (something a little less processed might have elevated it), lettuce, tomato, crispy bacon, and turkey or chicken (not sure which one and don't remember the menu description). The bread was nicely toasted without being over-buttered, and thankfully the kitchen believes in restraint. No "swimming in mayo" here. Dessert: Beignets: bite-sized, crisp on the outside, soft inside, lightly dusted with powdered sugar, and not greasy or overly sweet. Perfect with hot black coffee served in proper mugs. Value: For the quality and quantity we received, prices felt very fair for this area. Kudos to the kitchen and chef. Having moved back to DeRidder from the Baton Rouge metro, we've decided that dining out should offer something we can't easily do at home. We both enjoy cooking, and T-Doug's clears that bar. We'll definitely be back, especially when the grill is (hopefully) running earlier in the day so we can try the steak selection.
