The restaurant was decorated as you would expect a good Cajun restaurant to be decorated in. Service was nice and friendly and you order at the register and they bring your food to you. Service was great even after we got our food. A server asked us if we needed refills and if we wanted them in to-go cups, which scored bonus points with me! Here's what I had on this lunch visit: The crawfish pistollette (8/10) which was a small appetizer that was bread with some crawfish etouffee on top. Bread was nicely cooked and the etouffee on top was delicious. Solid starter! The Cajun Cooking Sampler (9/10) - this was a sampler with 3 amazing dishes. I got the shrimp and crab gumbo, which is classic Louisiana gumbo and it was outstanding! The sampler also had a bowl of crawfish etouffee which was good but felt it needed a bit more etoufee to mix with the rice. Lastly, the special of the day was fish courtbouillon which was a fish in tomato based sauce over rice. I really enjoyed this as the fish has a great texture and there was a lot of flavor in the sauce. Overall, solid lunch meal in the $ to $$ range depending on what you order. Recommend you trying it for a great Cajun experience!

The butter they serve with the bread has small pieces of course sea salt in it which was divine! It was the best bread and butter I have ever had hands down. The restaurant is tucked away in a corner of the casino. You have to pass a shop and then a pizza by the slice place to get there. The restaurant is waterside, so the view is pretty. We arrived just a couple minutes after their 11 a.m. opening, and the place was already packed, a good sign in itself. Luckily, with only three of us, the hostess got us seated at a table right away. The exterior isn't much to look at, but stepping inside tells a different story. The interior has a sports bar meets old school diner vibe, with decor that gives the whole place a nostalgic, lived-in charm. We all decided on the Darrell's Special sandwich with jalapeño mayo, and it did not disappoint. Our waitress was fantastic the whole meal, constantly checking in, keeping our drinks filled, and making sure we didn't need anything else. Despite how busy the place was, our sandwiches came out in a surprisingly short time. The sandwich itself is a beast! A toasted, loaded bun stacked with ham, turkey, and roast beef (which I hear is made in-house), all topped with roast beef gravy, American, Swiss, and provolone cheeses, lettuce, mustard, and your choice of regular or jalapeño mayonnaise, of course we had the Jalapeño Mayo. The first bite reminded me of a warm French dip, but that impression quickly gave way to layers of different meat flavors, rounded out by the subtle heat of the jalapeño mayo. It practically melted in my mouth. Honestly, I wanted to finish the whole thing, but I didn't want to need to be rolled out of the building, so I boxed up the second half and enjoyed it again for dinner. Great food, great service, and now I understand what all the buzz was about.

The menus are on the table but you really don't need a menu here since there are only a few items. Everyone comes here for po-boys obviously and they have a few to choose from. The top 2 choices are the most common, the special and the surf and turf. To me, what makes a good po-boy, is the bread....like many other sandwiches. If you have great bread, you're usually making a good sandwich. I tried the small special, while the rest of the table tried either the special or surf and turf. They don't have a formal kids menu, but they just have either PB&J or grilled cheese. We tried the grilled cheese. My fav ended up being the surf and turf due to it being cleaner to eat and more variety of taste and texture between the bread. I liked the special, but I forgot to ask the server to remove the American cheese, so it made it taste funny and would have been better without it.

There were three of us, and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed until closing! We started with the Crab Beignets and the Bone Marrow Tartare. I had never tried bone marrow tartare before, but it was absolutely incredible. The combination of prime tenderloin tartare, bone marrow, garlic aioli, and chimichurri purée was unique and packed with flavor. For our entrees, we had the Lobster Pasta, Mushroom Pasta with Chicken, and the Power Bowl with Shrimp. Every dish was outstanding. The Power Bowl was especially flavorful, and I absolutely loved the sauce. The lobster pasta was rich and delicious, and the mushroom pasta was perfectly prepared. To finish, we shared the Brownie in a Cup, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Everything we ordered was amazing. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. We researched restaurants in the area, but most were closed or had limited hours on a Sunday. Umami was the only restaurant with good reviews that was open at the time. The food was ok. It was definitely better than Hana Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill in Natchitoches, but not as good as Geisha Sushi Bistro in New Orleans. Starting with the atmosphere -- when we were seated, the table was noticeably sticky, which immediately set the wrong tone. The overall space felt dated, and several tables showed visible wear, including warped wood. It gave the impression that maintenance and upkeep may not be a priority. We decided to move forward and hope the food would make up for it. The quality itself wasn't terrible, but it wasn't memorable either -- fairly average and not something we'd go out of our way for. The biggest issue was the portion size and service flow. The sushi arrived in very small increments -- two pieces at a time -- with long pauses in between. It made the meal feel disjointed and unnecessarily drawn out. For the price point, the portions were extremely small, and I actually left hungry, which rarely happens. For three people, the bill ended up being over $125 (including a couple of beers), which felt steep considering the portion sizes and overall experience. I understand how challenging the restaurant business can be, and this isn't written to be harsh -- just honest. There's potential here, but improvements in cleanliness, presentation, portion sizing, and service pacing would make a significant difference. With several dining options in the area, I would likely explore other restaurants during our stay.

It's the kind of place you go for a nice dinner, date night, or when you just want to slow down and enjoy a full meal. The Eats We started with drinks - my husband had The Italiano, which was smooth and well-balanced, and I went with a Hedges Family Wine, which paired nicely with dinner. For the meal: My husband had a house salad and the pan-seared fish, which was cooked well and complemented by the kind of rich, flavorful sauces they're known for. I went with the wedge salad and the surf & turf, and listen...this is where they shine. The surf & turf is a standout - steak paired with seafood and a bold, flavorful sauce that leans into that fusion they're known for. Everything came out well-prepared, plated nicely, and felt like a complete dining experience rather than just a quick meal. The Service Service was attentive and polished without being overbearing. Drinks stayed filled, courses came out at a comfortable pace, and the staff made sure everything flowed smoothly. It matched the overall feel of the restaurant - thoughtful and consistent. Parting Thoughts Between the cocktails, the wine, and standout dishes like the surf & turf, it delivers a well-rounded experience.
