This restaurant was such a find! I loved the chic atmosphere and the food was amazing. The fillet here definitely beat out some of the other nearby steakhouse competitors. Coco's is the real deal- great service, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere and owned by locals who care. An old livery, converted into a restaurant in 2006- it has a convenient parking lot (rare for Oregon District restaurants)- and a nice patio. They've been able to cherry pick the best servers from other restaurants by keeping reasonable demands on employees- and keeping a steady consistent business. The food is nouvelle American- with everything from a simple pasta dish and an amazing burger- to more complex fusions of tastes. Nicely presented- on formal white dinnerware, but no white tablecloth on most of the tables- you can show up in a tux or in shorts and a polo- it's unpretentious and comfy. Noise level is low- so it's a great place to take a date- you can talk, but not feel like the people around you will be able to listen in. Friends who love wine love this place for the selection and the reasonable prices. They have special events like wine dinners and fixed price meals- and also do special private events like rehearsal dinners. It is the downtown power lunch destination. read more

This place is hit or miss. Some of their dishes are great, but others are mediocre. I always skip their side salads because they are flavorless and small. I like their fried Brie. The staff is the most disappointing thing about the restaurant. The last two times I've been there the waiter apologized multiple times for messing up. When you pay $50 for a meal, you expect a highly trained wait staff, but its just not there. We waited a long time for our food. Drinks were forgotten on both nights. One night there were two children setting tables while we were there. Just not the atmosphere you expect when you are drinking at a fancy restaurant. read more

Over the years, we've dined countless times at Coco's (both the new & old location). After our most recent visit, I just don't think we'll be back due to the inconsistencies in food quality and service. On a good night, the food is delicious and 'plate licking good' served by a personable, friendly and efficient staff. On a bad night, things are overcooked, over-seasoned, dry and delivered by someone who makes like you are an inconvenience. We took my mother here Mother's Day weekend...server was very attentive and went the extra mile...but the food was such a disappointment. I ordered the Filet cooked Medium...it arrived brown throughout. The waitress acknowledged this and requested a new one be prepared...the second steak was also cooked Medium Well. Mom's fish and Hubby's chicken were both overcooked, as well, and dry. Sorry...we're just not willing to gamble on them anymore. read more

Fabulous meal -lovely dining experience . My husband took me here for my birthday. First time going to this restaurant since they moved. Love the ambiance- Excellent Service, Great Drinks and amazing dinner: We ordered 2 different specialty drinks, fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and beef tenderloin fillets for dinner. We went to Coco's for a friends birthday on a Friday night. It was crowded, but we had an eight o'clock reservation so we were seated right away in a cute corner booth!! The place is decorated beautifully. Our server was knowledgable and very professional and nice!!! We had the fried Brie as an appetizer, it reminded me of a fancier version of fried mozzarella sticks (obviously it is not) it was SO GOOD! Their prices are high, but we are willing to pay for the quality of service and food that we get when we go! My husband had pizza which was amazing when I tasted it there & we heated up the left overs for lunch the next day it was still phenomenal. I had a steak salad which was also delicious. The couple we went with had steak and tuna, there were no complaints from them! Dessert was to die for!! We will be going back for my birthday this year. Definitely give Coco's a try!!!! read more

I've ate here once and never will again. A co-worker and I got the brick oven chicken. It was the worse food I've ever eaten. I can't describe how dry this was. I've never experienced food over cooked the extreme this chicken was. And it was $26! I was with a large group and didn't compare meals with my co-worker until the next day and she said her chicken was the same. I had debated over getting the chicken or pizza and the waitress recommended the chicken! of course it cost a great deal more than the pizza so I suspect she had a bigger tip motive. read more

I'd give five stars to High Violet, the bar side of Coco's. Great atmosphere, drinks, bartenders and servers. It's quiet and a great place to meet friends when you want a lounge experience. I most admire the daring of the location and the beauty of it. On the Coco's side, after several dinners and lunches, to me the kitchen seems inconsistent, I'm never sure they've found their true chef as some dishes are fantastic and some are rather odd or lacking in flavor, but beautiful in presentation. I hope you try this place and give feedback. Coco's is really on to something and has potential for greatness. read more

I have been to Coco's a few times in the past and it was always acceptable -- nothing great but a decent alternative. Tonight I had the worst restaurant experience of my life and will never go back. Despite reservations we had to wait 15-20 minutes for a table. They were very nice and even comped an appetizer for us, which is a major plus. But it went downhill from there. After begin seated we waited a full ten minutes for a waitress to show up. She took our drink order and we didn't see her again for another 20 minutes. She returned to take our food order not realizing that she had never brought our drinks until I pointed this out. When the food finally arrived my fish was overcooked and dry while my wife's order was simply bland and frankly bad. For the prices the food is simply unacceptable. It's a shame because there are so few good restaurant choices in the Dayton area. My guess is that is the only reason this place can stay in business. read more

We came to Coco's because some of the Yelp reviews were outstanding and I have to agree. The food was so diverse, quite a way to expand your pallet. It is a little pricey though- so be aware. The brown butter ravioli were delicious and I loved my Tuna salad. Excellent service, our waitress did not hover, and spot on atmosphere. My wife and I were attended Coco's on Valentine's Day 2016 with friends from our church. The reservations we made two weeks previous went ignored and the "board of trustees" scrambled to slide tables together to accommodate our eight person party. The luncheon began with a continental style breakfast served by several commercial airlines that consisted of four or five blueberries, a dozen grapes, three wee wedges of pineapple and three sauteed tortilla chips smothered in cinnamon. Our entree was the Fillet and Eggs, a simplistic, yet tasteless rendition of a double Egg McMuffin with home fried potatoes. What we received was horribly less than the McDonald's staple. Our food arrived cold and difficult to cut with the table knife. After paying our upscale bill several people in our party were asked to buy "art" from the wall of the waiting area. This was the absolute worst meal we have been served in Dayton. The lady that suggested Coco's left completely embarrassed. To be an "upscale" French style restaurant Coco's sells itself to be, the food must be exquisite and worth the price per plate. Coco's failed miserably and we will remember them by never returning. This was an insulting brunch; we should have gone to The Greene. read more

We went to Coco's for the second time last night for my bf's birthday. The first time we went was during restaurant week. What I learned last time was that I was WAY underdressed (jeans, nice sweater, heels), so I made sure to wear a nice cocktail dress this time. I like Cocos. Their food is fabulous, and their wait staff is phenomenal. But I suspect that the wait staff is phenomenal because they know what a crummy entrance the place has for its customers. I made a reservation well in advance for 8 on Saturday. When I make a reservation, I expect them to have a table ready for us within a few minutes of arriving on time. That's the POINT of having a reservation. The two times we have gone, with reservations, we have waited at least a half an hour to be seated. And the host, a snippy queen, does not make a very good first impression. He ignored us BOTH times (the first time I thought it was because of the way I dressed), gave tables to people who arrived after us, played around on his iPhone with his friends for a good while, and flat out refused to seat us even though our table was ready and we could see that it was ready. Seriously, I hate this guy. The woman (who I presume is one of the owners?) tries to be apologetic, but it is to no avail. Every time I enter the place I get so angry. But then I get seated and the waiter is extremely apologetic and very helpful. He was jovial and made it seem as though we were the only people in the place. And that was true of the waiter we had the first time as well. Also, the place was very loud and cramped. I didn't like that very much either. I had the duck breast with pistachio sauce, hen of the woods mushrooms, and sweet potato gnocchi. The sweet potato gnocchi tasted like gingerbread cookies and was way too sweet for that dish, but the duck breast itself was savory and had a pork like quality to it. I love the fact that at Coco's, it tasted like pork, but at the Winds, their duck tasted like beef. They were both excellent for two very different duck dishes. I have been here several times and my buddy had been a regular here for some time. They have recently moved to a bigger location and we went to check the place out. We went on a Friday so the place was packed and it took several minutes to find a parking place. Once in we were told is was a 30 minute wait, but looking around you could see that there were several table open. We were told those were "reserved". For people that are willing to come in and wait a few for a table, reservations suck! When you've stood for 30 minutes waiting for an empty table and there is one staring at you the whole time, it is a bit upsetting. We finally sat in an extremely noisy bar area and ordered. Everything was good except for the dish I ordered which was some sort of chicken pasta dish. It must have missed the flavor station because it had none. Our service was "ok" at best and we had to ask for an item or refill a couple times. In the end, for the price I could have gotten a much better meal elsewhere and the experience would have been better too. read more

Well we went here to meet with some long time friends to celebrate there new baby. It was just the adults no kids. We had reservations for 5:30 and got there around 5:35 and had a good diner with appetizers, drinks deserts for a table for 4. The total check with tip was probable close to $300. As soon as we signed our receipts and we she picked up our desert plates we got out the gift for our friends. Half way through the gift the hostess came and and told us we needed to leave because they only aloud 2 hours per reservation and the next reservation was there. So i guess if u plan on going there don't plan on relaxing and having a good time. Plan on watching your watch or the crazy guy that seats you will ask you to leave as soon as u pay and are done with your food. We plan on calling and speaking with Karen the owner on Tuesday when she returns. read more

I've tried this place a couple of times but no more. The food is medicore, and very expensive. The duck had a mustard sauce that was really overpowering and one note. The steak had a side of macaroni and cheese that was dumped on the side of the plate and tasted like it came from TGI Friday's. Service was slow, though it was not the servers fault as it was understaffed for a busy weekend night. Overall, it felt amateur for a restaurant trying to be high end. I'll go back to Corner Kitchen instead next time. read more

If I was only rating the food, my rating would be much higher. The incident contributing to the negative portion of my review occurred in early October of 2010. I paid for my party's lunch bill with a credit card that had only been used a couple of times a year and had not been used for more than six months before that visit and had never been used online. Within two weeks of using this card at Coco's, I was contacted by my credit card company regarding numerous charges being made on the card in the UK totaling almost $1000. The dates for all of the suspicious charges were after I had used the card at Coco's. Fortunately my credit card company rectified the charges and I was not forced to pay them, but I was forced to cancel that card and receive a card with a new number. I have enjoyed many of the dishes to be found on Coco's menu, but the fact that the identity theft coincided so neatly with the card being in the possession of a Coco's staff member and no one else in a lengthy time frame casts a dark cloud of suspicion. I continue to eat at Coco's occasionally, but will only pay cash and warn other members of my party to do likewise. I wish that my enjoyment of their good food was not tarnished by issues of trust. read more

Oh boy, did Coco's save the day. My wife and I were out for a much anticipated date night as we wanted a pleasant and relaxing dining experience. Our first choice, (their name doesn't deserve to be mentioned in this stellar review), did not go well. In short, we had 1 drink each and an appetizer during an absolute horrid experience at another establishment downtown. Fortunately, someone had recommended Coco's to us so we thought we would attempt to salvage the evening by coming here for dinner. What a great decision! Not only is the pricing reasonable across the menu but the service and quality of the food is as good as it gets. We were pleasantly greeted by the staff upon arrival (we ended up staying after dinner and spent time with the staff at the bar). Greeted timely by the server, cocktails were delicious and came out with a loaf of wonderful dinner bread. The Filet and Ribeye were absolutely delicious and cooked/seasoned to perfection. And then, my wife and I shared what may be the best creme brulee we have ever had. We can't wait to our next date night as we are definitely coming back here! Super disappointed in Cocos. This was one of my favorite restaurants but we had a horrible time Saturday. I'm not one to make a big a deal with a group of people, but for a $160 bill it was not up to par. We had an appetizer that was good. Then I had lobster grits and my husband had a steak. The lobster was over cooked grits had NO flavor. My husbands steak was WAY over cooked and chewy to the point half was inedible. Had a manager and or owner come over and asked how our food was I would have told them. However, no one including our server even asked us how the food was. I'm sad to see a restaurant we frequent go downhill. Hopefully it was a bad day but a $160 bad day makes me question whether or not to come back! read more

The prices are comparable to J. Alexander's, Pine Club or Jay's. But on a Saturday night the male waiters were wearing jeans and skin tight black t-shirts with their arms covered in tattoo sleeves. Fine for a low end sports bar, but at these prices I would expect the servers to be more appropriately dressed. One lady in our group declined dessert saying that looking at our waiter's "love handles" all night did not inspire her to spurge on the extra calories. Others in the group were "turned off" by the visible tattoos. I would think twice about bringing business associates or older customers like myself (64). read more

I was really disappointed with my first visit. I tried the pizza and it was extremely salty and did not taste good. The prices are very high with a limited menu. We reserved the private room for tonight and it was amazing! The man who seated us, I don't know his name, was incredibly friendly and knew we had reserved the room for our mother's birthday. He made sure to tell her happy birthday when we arrived and when we left. Our server, Nikki was amazing and did an excellent job remembering what everyone had and checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious! The hummus appetizer is awesome! And the duck ramen was amazing! And then the desserts...oh my goodness! The creme brulee was beyond incredible! It was an incredible evening! What a great night to eat on the patio of Coco's Bistro. It wasn't too busy so my friend and I enjoyed a drink and appetizer before dinner. The Fried Green Tomatoes were a nice way to start dinner. For my entree, I ordered the Ahi Tuna ($26). With it came a side salad which had a nice dressing on it. When my entree came, I was a bit disappointed because, along with the portion of tuna and a delicious chutney, there was a huge portion of ... salad!! It was as if they ran out of something and filled the plate (about half of it!) with lettuce. I was pretty disappointed. The service was very good, though a glass if wine ended up on my bill which should have gone on my friend's bill. Atmosphere was great ... food, not so much. read more

The service was not fabulous , we saw our server once after the food was delivered, never got bread. Drinks sat empty a while, we waited too long for checks with empty glasses. Brisket was great, tender and great flavor. Pork chop had wonderful sauce and flavor but the texture was weird .. Perhaps undercooked slightly. read more
