Well where do I start. First off we were looking for a restaurant in the area and saw this one had great reviews. We called and got a table. I can say what a surprise it was to see this was located within a retirement complex. But ever open to new dining experiences we parked and went in. We were greeted right away and had only a very short wait for our table. The ambiance is very relaxing with lots of wood. Their menu was not too extensive but featured a range of items. They have a full bar and offer specialty cocktails. Our server was pleasant and the food arrived in a timely manner and was very good. I have no complaints. And if this is what is available for retirement living it's a great option. I must note there were obvious younger patrons also. So it seems as if the community enjoys it too. read more

I was looking for somewhere that had good steaks. When I googled steakhouses in Hamilton, Coach House was at the top. I had never heard of it and but it did pique my interest so I decided to make a reservation and go for it. Upon arrival, I realized it's nestled in a quaint assisted living village. Walking into the building I wallowed in the simple yet elegant, romantic decor. This was a date night for me so the aura of the locale added to the atmosphere. My fiancé and I started with a glass of wine and the Caprese Flatbread topped with sun-dried tomatoes. It was a very generous proportion definitely made for sharing. (Photo taken after some of it had already been eaten). For the main entree, he ordered the Phil's Ribeye. A 14oz ribeye with baked potato and carrots. He ate half with the intent on saving the rest for the next day but ended up eating it all because it was that delicious. I ordered the High Hats, two croissant sandwiches, both were very tasty. (I was so wrapped in conversation, I forgot to take pics of my food). However I could not wait to order dessert. They had my favorite, crème brûlée. It was so delicate and decadent; highly recommend. My husband took me on Mother's Day for the first time. The ambiance didn't exist, no white table cloths, looked like a nursing home and could only get the buffet. Drinks were okay but everything was overpriced and food was cold. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

I don't live in Hamilton anymore, I came home at Christmas and wanted to take my mother and father to a nice dinner as a part of our holiday celebration so I made a reservation based on other reviews I had read online and we were all incredibly disappointed. I asked for a nice table, but they sat us next to the bar... I'm not sure why since the other dining room was open and no one was in there eating The food was no better than what you could get at the Denny's restaurant... the service was no better than a poorly managed diner, and the ambience was that of a slightly elevated cafeteria... Flavorless, dry salmon, a house wine that ended up being sparkling, despite the fact that it didn't claim to be so on the menu, and a waitress in blue jeans and a sweatshirt that might as well have been working at McDonald's... If you're going to claim to be a fine dining restaurant... Maybe you should pay a little more attention to the fine detail. I can't recommend this restaurant unless you're all about paying a lot of money for very little wow factor. read more

The ambiance was quite dark, and sound from other tables carried easily. We were place in a corner where we were quickly forgotten. I ordered the French dip style sandwich, and the meat was hardly seasoned. The au jus had a thick layer of oil on top with chunks of fat or grease globs in it. The Saratoga chips were good, but the barbecue sauce compliment was kinda gross. If you want a small salad, it's $5 more. The price is much too high for the quality you get, but they were having a hog roast, and we ordered off the menu. The chef seemed frustrated with the hog, and his staff. When he visited the table it was with a scowl and less than 5 seconds of dialogue. The place is built inside a nursing/rehab facility, and only open 4 days a week. Don't waste money on alcohol. The drinks are not worth the price, and getting refills on tea and water were like pulling teeth. read more

We had a fine dining experience here on Saturday. Arrived about 10 to 5 and were lucky to get seated as they were all booked up with dinner reservations. Happily they found us a booth in the tavern dining room. It's bright and beautiful inside, vaulted ceiling with skylights and a fancy chandelier. Fireplace too. Attractive and comfortable bar. Tables had little fresh flower vases and electric candles. Service was excellent, questions were answered, food arrived promptly. Waitstaff were attentive without being overbearing. We felt welcome and appreciated. We started with the arancini, very tasty and creamy with an interesting take on marinara. Fresh shaved parmesan on the plate was nice. My husband loved the filet, which was cooked perfect medium rare. Edible flower garnish. He was also pleased with the well-cooked, tender vegetable medley. I wanted something lighter so I had the mini croissant duo, one of each filling. Tuna salad was fine, nothing special, but the chicken salad was dee-lish. It had a kind of fruity sweetness which balanced the meat nicely. Potato dippers- oh my, like a very thin steak fry. Lightly crispy outside and just melting within. Addicting, be warned. I also added a cup of chili that was spicy and flavorful and loaded with meat. The location....there is a big sign for Coach House on Washington Blvd. where you turn in and drive straight down till the road ends in a cul de sac, restaurant to your left. It seemed to me that available parking was not abundant, but there might be a back entrance. We did not explore that. It was definitely different, driving several blocks through a private and very upscale community to get here but I'm glad we did! Hope to come again and will definitely make a reservation. read more

Lunched there recently with a friend and I was impressed. Service was wonderful -- friendly and efficient. It's a pretty place and was quiet enough to have a good chat. Both of us really enjoyed our meal and we split a delicious crème brûlée for dessert. Menu was small but had plenty of variety for lunch. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. Okay! I loved this place. I will tell you, it was weird going into this place. It's hard to find for sure. And it's in a retirement community! Yes, a retirement community. This of course didn't bother me and nor should it bother you. The food, service and cocktails were very good. The restaurant was playing 50s/60s music which was a little loud but not over bearing, the restaurant was very clean. I got the pork chop and it was cooked perfectly. It was very tasty. The mashed potatoes were good. The only thing I didn't like were my green beans. In this places defense, I am very particular about my green beans. My wife got the Gatsby Cesar salad which she absolutely loved! She said there were so many different flavors that complimented each other very well. Dessert- the house made peanut butter pie was perfect. Not too sweet. I couldn't even get a picture because it was gone so quick. We will be going back to this place for sure! A hidden gem, just as advertised. We were pleasantly surprised to find both ambiance and delicious, reasonably priced meals at the Coach House. We enjoyed Phil's Steak (perfectly cooked to medium as requested) and the Lemon Chicken Linguine (nicely seasoned and not too saucy)! The "crème de la crème" so to speak, was, in fact, the Crème Brûlée. Absolutely the best I've ever had, crispy top with creamy texture (not custardy) and a delicious flavor! I am happy to say I gave Coach House a second chance, and I'm glad that I did! In the past 2-3 months I have attended 2 cocktail classes there and had several meals there with friends and family. At first I thought it was the clubhouse for a country club, so I went inside to ask if we could eat there. It was wonderful. Large portions, very tasty and good value. Don't let the the fact that this restaurant is located in a retirement community stop you! The entire restaurant has been remodeled and revamped. The bar - bartender Brandy is fabulous! - is a great spot to grab a drink. The menu has something for everyone...wonderful full dinners and delicious sandwiches (the Whiplash Chicken Wrap is a must try). I can imagine for those people not from Hamilton going to a retirement community for lunch or dinner seems beyond weird but this is a serious must try restaurant! This is a restaurant located inside an upscale retirement community. It's open to the public but the layout of the community makes it a little difficult to get to. First, the food. It was quite good. I had a pan-seared haddock special, and my wife had salmon. The haddock came with couscous (which I HATE) so I asked for a substitution of potatoes or rice. She said she'd do it but it came out with no starch at all. Other than that, it was nicely prepared and flavorful enough for a large portion of white fish. One person ordered the soup which he initially did not like but it grew on him. My wife LOVED the salmon. The wine selection was full of wines largely unknown to me so that puts me either way above or way below their clientele. I chose the cheapest one and it was good, so this could be a very good wine list. The desserts were enjoyed by those who ordered them. I would have loved a refill on my coffee which I can get at places like Denny's, but I guess not here. The server was average but a little too casual and inattentive for the price. The big problem in my mind was the atmosphere. The decor is pretty nondescript with basic oak chairs and tables. This was fine for the now-defunct Silver Tee, but for the price ($74 for two) I'd like to be in a nicer place. There was live entertainment (an excellent and tasteful guitar player/singer) but he was just plunked in the middle of one side of the dining room and was slightly too loud. A little better planning in that room would have gone a long way. All in all, I'm sure the retired people there prefer a well-lit open room with Frisch's-style friendly service but I think I'll still be looking at the bottom line vs the atmosphere by that age and I'll be venturing into town for dinner. read more

Hidden gem! It's tucked away in a residential (retirement) area, but worth the hunt! The food was fantastic and the staff was very attentive. It wasn't loud at all, making it a great spot to catch up with a dear friend. I especially recommend the fried pickles appetizer (they make their own pickles for it!) and the panna cotta for dessert. First time to the Coach House tonight. My family and I eat out quite a bit and get tired of the same old casual dining places. The Coach House is a great alternative! Service was excellent, food was outstanding, and the restaurant was very nice and relatively quiet. We had the duck spring rolls, french onion soup, the wedge salad, spinach salad, and the short ribs. All was well prepared and nicely presented. The ambience of the Coach House Tavern and Grille is lovely with white tablecloths, cloth napkins, and real flowers on the tables. As outdoor temperatures plummet, there will be fires in the restaurant's fireplaces. How cozy! What a lovely restaurant in which to relax, to visit, and to share a lunch or dinner with friends anytime of the year! There are tasty daily specials offered as nice options to the regular menu so one can dine in the restaurant often and try new items. A group of wonderful kitchen and wait staff is now in place. They are attentive and gracious, honoring any special request as best they can. We have found the chefs to be preparing a great variety of foods that are flavorful and presented nicely. Items that are to be served cold are served cold; hot items are served hot. We have enjoyed a variety of dishes at the Coach House. Here is a sampling of some dishes we really enjoyed: a seafood boil, osso buco, bouillabaisse, tilapia with salsa ,arancini with aioli, fried chicken, lasagna, crab cakes, eggs benedict, the tavern breakfast plate, chicken salad, meat loaf, fish and chips, chopped salad, French onion soup, chicken and wild rice cream soup, caramelized brussel sprouts, sweet potato fries, bread pudding, and cannoli. The special dinner menus that are offered periodically by the chefs, as well as the accompanying live entertainment, provide very special evening dining experiences whether it be on the outdoor patio or in one of the lovely dining rooms. Another offering by the restaurant is the Sunday brunch. The food is excellent, the prices are very reasonable and again, the atmosphere is second to none in Hamilton. I've really struggled with this particular review - hence waiting 4 months after the wedding to write it. I fell in love with the Fitton Center for my wedding reception and Coach House is the caterer for the Fitton Center. Prior to booking the reception, I had never eaten at the Coach House. My aunt has very discriminating tastes & she swears by the Coach House. I trusted her & went forward. Compared to other reception sites/catering I looked at, Coach House was by far the most difficult to figure out. We paid $6 extra a person to have actual glassware available. We also paid the fees for servers & bartenders. I'm sure this price is built in at other facilities, but it was strange to know exactly how much we were paying for them. During the course of working with the Coach House, the catering manager, general manager, and head chef were either fired or left the company voluntarily. The initial catering manager didn't take very good notes so when the new catering manager took over we had to start completely over. Luckily my mother had taken good notes and was willing to meet with the new person as I live out of town and couldn't take the time off work to do so. Our initial tasting went very well and we chose chicken madeira and beef tenderloin. Unfortunately when the new chef took over, he just couldn't produce a chicken madeira dish that was (in my parents words) edible. My parents went back for additional tastings several times to give the new chef a chance to fix it, but it never worked. Finally they decided to change to chicken florentine which they said was much better. On the night of, the food was all delicious. I'm not quite sure how to blame for this mixup, but it all worked out in the end. We were told when booking that no other events would be taking place at the Fitton Center the night of the wedding. We later found out that a play would be there that night. In order to ensure all our guests had parking, a police officer was stationed at the entrance to the parking lot and valet parking was offered at no extra cost to us or our guests. One thing I wish would have been done better was the service. Only some of the cake was cut initially. By the end of the night all the cake that had been cut was gone & I ended up cutting my own slices. Also we had two (that I know of) bread baskets catch on fire as a result of being set down in the tea light candle. (My parents table's caught on fire during my dad's speech and NO ONE at the table noticed. Thankfully someone at another table noticed and quietly put it out!) Overall, I would use Coach House again once they've got their personnel issues straightened out. read more

Reservation at 1pm when we were seated and didn't receive 1st course until after 2pm. 2nd course another half hour later.
