The receptionist on Saturday June 27th at 8pm was rude and uninformed. Hung up on me and would not answer on the second attempt.

The atmosphere, drinks and appetizers were very good. Unfortunately the meals were not. Sent 2 steaks back, the salmon looked pressed. 2 of our party's could not eat it. It was very dry and tasteless. The manger and waitress were very apologetic and kind. I understand it was a new chef. Not sure we would give it another try. The food here is very good, with tasty appetizers and incredible salads. I highly recommend it for health-conscious diners, as they offer a great selection of flavorful salads--I enjoyed the steak salad. They also have indulgent options like burgers, which looked great, though I haven't tried them. They always provide good food. The ribeye is hard to beat. You could either seat at the bar or in the dinning room. The service is good and the staff is courteous in either room. The bar is great, allowing to meet interesting people, the dinning room is more classic and offer a cozy ambiance. On Wednesday night they offer 50% on bottle of wine. read more

I was driving home to Indianapolis and getting hungry as I drove down the Interstate. A quick search turned up the Caroline. While not right off the Interstate, the short detour was well worth the diversion. The food was amazing here and it is a very nice place. I got the chipotle pork chop which was cooked to perfection. If all pork chops tasted this good I would probably eat a lot more pork. I also got a baked potato and it comes with a small ramekin of apples which was a nice addition. Overall service was very attentive and again a very nice independent establishment. I would love to return if I am in the area again. read more

SO GOOD!!! We had the bourbon mushrooms and potstickers for appetizers and loved both! Our drinks were delicious as well. Both martinis were perfect, I even ordered a lemon drop, it was also good. The steaks were cooked to order and the specialty going on right now is adding 2 scallops for $8 more dollars. They were also to die for. Overall fantastic meal. Steve (proprietor) and company are always on point. I appreciate their attention to detail and ability to handle a table of 2 and a table of 12 with the same excellence. I recently attended last week for a retirement party with 11 people. It was on point; drinks were full, and food was fast and great. Looking over my shoulder, at 5:30 on a Wednesday, there were 20 people waiting for a table. Glad we had our reservations -- highly recommend or be ready to sit for up to an hour. On to the food. Caroline Steak is a staple for dinner for me. Tangled O'Rings and garlic butter atop a beautiful Angus beef sirloin. You can't beat it with the fresh green beans and a potato choice. Are you a burger connoisseur? Try the Caroline or Russ Burgers. For $1 more the Russ is hard to beat. And when you order your burger medium, no one panics, because the kitchen staff knows how to not kill meat. I find other places are timid to do anything less than medium well, perhaps because their beef is lower quality. Appetizers? Southwestern Eggrolls are fantastic. Also, crabcakes- shareable and I'm talking real true crabcakes like you would get in New England, not filler garbage. These are true to their name 100%! You'll soon be ordering a second order. Excited to try something outside of our normal franchise steakhouse selection. Scenery was fantastic. My ribeye was fantastic, my wife's sirloin was over seasoned to the point it wasn't appetizing. My daughter's burger was good but once again the chips were salted to inedible. Service also suffered tonight as I had to ask an alternate server for a beer as well as ketchup. Hope they are able to correct things for next time. This place seems to be a classic staple of the downtown area. read more

Besties Annual Christmas dinner. This year we celebrated at The Caroline in Troy. The decor is warm and inviting and it was tastefully decorated for the Christmas season. We started with drinks (Buckeye Martini and White German, which is their signature drink), Salad (house and Too Gouda) and Ahi Tuna and bread. The drinks were spot on ...not a light pour, not a heavy pour, and both were extremely good, but I definitely understand why the White German is their signature drink! The Tuna was seared to perfection and the Too Gouda salad (Mixed greens, Granny Smith apples, ground pecans, smoked gouda cheese, and dried cranberries tossed with creamy balsamic dressing) was truly the best salad I've eaten. Our entrees consisted of (1) 16oz Boneless Ribeye, Latkes Potatoes with Sriracha Sour Cream, Stewed Tomatoes, (2) The Caroline House Steak with Tangled Onion Rings, Baked Potato, (3) The Dinner Special for that week: Chicken & Mushrooms garnished with black truffle chicken sauce over linguini. The steaks were cooked to perfection, tender and so flavorful. The chicken was juicy and the linguine al dente. To finish off the night we enjoyed the Coffee Ice Cream topped with chocolate-covered coffee beans and chocolate syrup and the dessert of the day: Peppermint Ice Cream topped with Chocolate Ganache. The entry way is a bit small, but we were greeted with a smile and shown to our table quickly. Our server was very polite and personable and gave us just the right amount of attention, allowing to enjoy our dinner and conversation, while providing great service. We "Besties" all agree, this was a fabulous dinner at a fabulous restaurant. The Caroline is definitely a treasure in Troy Ohio. read more

A group of 3 of us came here around 6:30 pm on a Tuesday evening and we were able to be seated immediately. Some free parking available outside the building that was convenient. The inside is nice atmosphere but a little dark. Hostess and waitress were pretty friendly but the waitress had a little bit of a hard time answering some of our questions about the menu. We saw on their instagram that they were having $4 off appetizers and that wasn't advertised at the restaurant. My group ordered an appetizer of the crab cakes for $~11 with the $4 off and a side of the Brussel sprouts with bacon and cashews for $5. We were pleased with both appetizers. The crab cakes were delicious with a decent amount of crab and a good aioli sauce. The brussel sprouts were very buttery and tasty. I got the gouda salad for my main course with ahi tuna for $16. The salad was good but had a lot of dressing on it and was a little soggy. The prices of the full salad were also not on the menu. Really enjoyed the ahi tuna. The waitress also brought out a basket of really warm bread that we all enjoyed. The portions were pretty good, but not the biggest. A nice meal here. read more

We love the changing menu and themes! While it's a 30 minute drive, we still enjoy coming here for casual elegant dining. The chef is consistently impressing us and surprising us with creative features! Wish the wine list was a bit more interesting. Staff is well trained and reservations are easily obtained. Came in on a Tuesday night as part of a large group. There were probably 16 of us. Staff was very accommodating, put together 5 tables for us. Service was very efficient. We tried several of the appetizers, all that we tried was very good (crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, ahi tuna, southwest rolls, tempura shrimp). I ordered the NY strip with side Caesar and loaded potato. Steak was cooked perfectly, flavor was very good. Caesar was good, no complaints there. Baked potato was just ok - didn't blow me away. Would definitely eat here again if I was in the area - I thought the pricing was good. Only complaint was parking - you park on the street in downtown Troy. Not a huge fan of that. read more

Wish I could give it a 4.5- great food/ service was ok. My husband an I were looking for a new place to eat in Troy area and found The Caroline. It's located in the cute town square and had an outdoor seating area. We noticed there was a table open outside while walking in. They lady at the desk asked if we had a reservation ( we didn't) I said we wouldn't mind sitting outside if that's possible- to which they said they don't have any tables outside. Another lady offered to go out and check to maybe give us an estimated wait time, but when she returned said their was in fact a table available. Our waitress was nice, but not super personal which is fine. She was there when we needed her, but did forget our bread. We got our bread while we waited and it was delicious- maybe a salted rye? We ordered a flat bread pepperoni pizza as an app and it had a great sauce and a crispy crust. We both ordered the Russ Burger- burger, cheddar, crispy onion straws, bacon, bbq and a burgundy sauce. The burgers were fantastic! I got the potatoes with sriracha sour cream and they were also yummy. My husband had the sweet potatoes fries and loved them as well. This was a cute place with free parking right outside. We ordered the filet which came with mashed potatoes and a wine reduction sauce crab bisque. I got the salmon with pasta it had some vodka sauce and A salad. A beer or glass of wine was included in our package deal. He liked his beer and i realky enjoyed the housr red. As for the meal it was good but not great. He liked my salmon dish better and I liked his steak better so we swapped. I'd had that vodka sauce before and forgot I didn't love it. I liked his bisque better that the caprese salad ... for me the tomatoes where tasteless and it needed more balsamic (but I didn't ask for additional). The triple chocolate dessert was the highlight for me. came here during restaurant week. This is a bit far for us to drive and we are more familiar with area south of us. But that's the fun of restaurant week try new things and places. First of all what a quaint cute little town. Seemed like Mayberry in a good way. I wish the shops had been open but evidently most everything closed at 4pm on sunday. There was a interesting sculpture in town but there for limited tine. Not sure if they keep displaying new scuplpture or if that was just a one and done. Anyway this was by a lovely building which I assume is the courthouse. Wine down Wednesday. Gotta love half price bottles of wine. Tonight's special, gourmet sandwich fish po boy was fantastic!!!! I hate to say this but, you could taste the layers! The bun ((which tastes like it must be the house bread) the dressing, the tomatoes, the pollock!! Best po boy either of us has ever had!! Wonderful! 2018 Aug. Miss that old wine menu. I have to be fair and submit this review again. My first experience at The Caroline was terrible. From food to service it was bad. And on my birthday. We have returned three times and it was perfection. Actually, it got better each time! Food, service, atmosphere, and price make this a must do when in Troy. I appreciate when someone gives me a second chance so I did the same with this restaurant. If you had a bad experience try it again, I think you will change your mind.
