Wow! I really can't say enough about how positive an experience this was for my son. On a whim, I took my 8 year old son to one of CodaKid's "code-a-thon" events, which occur every Friday evening. I was blown away by the entire experience! Through the help of the CodaKid instructors, my son made an actual working computer game! He learned how to input and understand how code works as a way of telling the computer what he wanted it to do. I'm not sure I can even put a proper value on the experience.....it was that wonderful. I believe that understanding the practical application of coding is going to be very important for our youths' futures. Our world is increasingly run by software and the need for experienced coders is only going to increase. Jobs in this field will be plenty! More importantly (at least for now), it was tons of fun for my boy. I never would have thought that my son could express himself and be so creative while essentially writing software! He's been twice now, and he can't wait to go back! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It is apparent that this is a group that truly likes what they do and they are darn good at it. They made my son feel right at home. And the best part........seeing my son's face when he was able to show me HIS creation. He was as proud of himself, as I was of him. We took our 2 kids (9 and 7) to a Code-a-thon last weekend because we were considering sending them to one of the summer camps and wanted to see how they liked it. They are both huge Minecraft fans, but we weren't sure if they would be into learning the coding behind it. My kids are both pretty shy, so they were nervous when we first walked in. However, as soon as they were seated at their own computers and introduced to their friendly and enthusiastic instructors, they were good to go. The awesome location in Old Town Scottsdale allowed my husband and I to walk over to a great little place with live music for 2 hours while the kids learned how to write code in Java to make flaming swords for mining. When we returned, they were so excited to show us what they made and they really seemed to have a good understanding of how to move in and out of the coding environment to actually play the game with their new creation. It was an amazing experience for all 4 of us. I feel so lucky that we found this place. On the drive home, my son said "it would be really awesome if we could learn how to make the code to create more stuff in Minecraft!" He went on to generate a whole list of things he had in mind. I took my twin 8-year old boys to this course. They don't always do good on the first class due to being kind of shy with strangers. The guys that run this course made them feel comfortable the moment we walked in the door. Each employee took the time to introduce themselves, answer questions, offer refreshments, etc. When I came back to get my sons at the end of the class, the roar of boys having fun was almost deafening. It was so incredible to see my boys cheering and laughing right along with the older boys. They had successfully learned how to code their own Minecraft mod. This course was an awesome fire sword that shot out projectiles and blew things up. Every boy's dream! I would recommend this to anyone with children that love Minecraft. My computer skills are limited, but with the help that Codakid offers my boys (9 & 10) are enjoying learning coding. I have one son thoroughly interested and does video classes everyday, including weekends. Probably 2-3 times per week he accesses the help desk, compresses his code, sends it in (all of this is explained in a handy video, I did it with him once and from then on he was independent). Within 24 hours he either has an answer to his question or a screen share to look at his code. My dad, PhD in computer science, is thrilled that his grandkids are learning Eclipse... "I use that everyday". It is good to know they are learning real life skills (and not just playing Minecraft ad nauseam). Overall, we would buy again and will buy classes in the future. read more

I have not seen a better online coding curriculum than what CodaKid has! Kids feel like real developers :) using real world tools and languages. My son said that when he started talking about Minecraft mods with Eclipse and Java in his class, other kids were like "No way! You're doing whaaaat?". I guess we live in a different world now :) Back in the days you would get bullied in school if you were not good at sports... now you get bullied if you're not good at video gaming. Also, now that they opened year-long after-school classes (thankfully in Scottsdale) we signed up for that and my kids are now learning also in-class as well and they learn A LOT and super excited and proud to show off their games and projects to us. read more

I was impressed with Codakid from start to finish. I had questions so I called twice, once getting the owner. They were so helpful - I didn't feel rushed or like I was bothering them. I decided to try to the "parents night out" on Friday at the Scottsdale location. My eight year old son loves Minecraft but he is extremely shy so I was worried about whether he would have fun. The staff was very welcoming to us. At the end I arrived a little early and I could not believe how loud it was in their room - I even heard mine talking loudly from the lobby where I was waiting. I am very impressed with Coda Kids' courses and in particular the Roblox coding course. My 12-year old son is taking the Roblox coding course. He/we find the lesson plans to be well structured. In my opinion, the costs are very reasonable too. What I am most impressed with is their technical support staff. For instance, in the Roblox Adventure Maps course, my son's code was not working as intended. Coda Kid has implemented a tool that make it easy to attached your code file and ask your specific question. Then once you submit your question, the Coda Kid Technical Support staff responds promptly. So far we have submitted two question and we have received a response within 4 business hours. read more

So we had been looking for a coding / game creation camp for my son and found that there are very few available in the valley. We were wait listed at one during the summer and didn't get in. We heard about this program from a friend and decided to check it out. The format was Scratch based , the class was a few hours long on a friday evening. They offer one on one instruction in a relaxed but professional environment. My son loved it. He was able to develop a game and present it to us when we arrived to pick him up. The best part is how conveniently located it is in old town Scottsdale. We will definitely be back for parents night out and hopefully a summer camp! read more

CodaKid offers fantastic online lessons that really engage kids. My 9 year found it straightforward to start and I have not needed to help in any way. He has started to learn Python, C# and the Unreal Engine. The structure of coding is taught well, starting with Scratch and then getting more complex. Teaching includes learning creativity and after a few tantrums when code is not working, kids also learn about patience and perseverance. I get emails every time my son contacts CodaKid. Feedback is fast and they sometime arrange sessions to take over his computer and fix code. read more

This is an awesome company with great courses. There are so many choices at many different levels. The best fact i can give Is that i throw (almost literally) this to my 12 y/o and before finishing even the 14 day trial he was so much engaged that here we are, a new happy customer. My nine and seven year old daughters and their two friends attended a code-a-thon and had a great time. The environment was very kid friendly and the staff was great! My girls got hands on help with learning how to make a lightning bow mod for minecraft. My girls said the instructors were very fun, knowledgeable and helpful. When I picked them up they were sad the night was over and immediately asked when they could return. Great, safe, educational activity for kids. Can't wait to return. read more

CodaKid is a great place where kids can learn the basics of a programming language. There are several options and my son started from pocking around his favorite game. Learning how to become familiar to coding and about the necessary mentality to do so can be fun. CodaKid knows how to mix step-by-step, guided instruction with true entertainment. We've sent our son to a total of 5 weeks of coding classes during the summer of 2017 & 2018. First off, EXCELLENT customer service. The instructors show enthusiasm for the topic and the kids. The equipment always works. Class sizes seem just right. All but 1 of our 5 weeks has been at the headquarters 'campus' in Scottsdale. The satellite campus had small issues with connectivity but was resolved. Wish there were East Valley (Mesa) classes. Could not recommend more highly. read more

My son always has so much fun at CodaKid. The instructors are wonderful and are very helpful and informative. My son is always so excited to come home and show us everything he created. The building is beautifully decorated and has a very welcoming vibe. If we arrive earlier my son can hangout in a kid's lounge area where he can play video games with the other children. As good as it gets. The kids loved it and it's giving them such a head start on the jobs that are going to be so valuable in the near future. CodaKid does it the right way - keep the kids learning even though they have no clue they are learning - it's too much fun for them to think about that part.
