This museum was very manageable and not overwhelming. We went on a Saturday evening and it wasn't packed at all. The kids loved the real outdoor helicopter, the large truck, the construction area, the awesome market, the cute cookie shop, the bus with card reader, the gym with the scarf wind tunnel and balance bikes, and the Lego race car building ramp. The kids were all really well-behaved and so many of the caregivers were supervising and involved in the imaginary play with their kids which made for a good experience. The exhibits are well varied which keeps things interesting. It was clear that some things are very new and some things are very old and worn out. They force you to walk through the gift shop to leave. The Legos and car bases are ready to be replaced with new ones. Parking was available but the North Garage payment system is pretty confusing and hard to use because there is no cell service down there. The staff at the museum would not help us validate our parking because we left at closing.

Initially I wasn't sure if the class I attended was going to be active enough for my 22 month old, but by the time the class ended, he wanted to stay! He had a great time with the musical activities, and the pace was pretty great. As I mentioned before, some of the activities are "quieter", which wasn't a huge sell with my little guy. But I am going to guess that he will get used to that and it will be a good thing for me. One of the things that impressed me is that they seem to have a bunch of different capabilities there, with a few different music studios. Everything was clean and well-cared for. In my opinion Avondale Academy does not offer competitive pay rates. Teachers are significantly…read moreunderpaid. They save money by offering incentives which sacrifices a portion of pay. Management is only invested in protecting their circle. The circle consists of the founding women and unassertive employees who have been there longer than five years. They lead covertly and have a "no gossip policy" teachers are forced to sign, but don't follow themselves. Decisions on my behalf were made by people who never saw me teach. Losing multiple teachers every year is the norm. They cycle through teachers like nobody's business. They sweet talk the new hires and tell them they're really good, when they're struggling and have limited training. I was only paired with young, inexperienced teachers and encouraged to support/guide them without extra compensation. I was told the exact same worded praise as another teacher with zero experience. Teachers were encouraged to share their teaching skills/strategies without compensation. The young new hires were commonly highlighted in newsletters and social media. They play favorites. Incorrect information and poor management communication are commonplace. Every teacher I worked alongside quit. I saw at least nine teachers quit. By burning out and dumping the new hires they can hire new teachers each year at a lower pay rate, protecting their circle, and saving money. There are reasons this preschool has become a multimillion dollar company so quickly. And they're not good. Avondale is good at making money. They use teachers and crush dreams. They crushed mine.

However, since then, there has been a very high rate of turnover in the staff, which makes it really difficult because I feel like my child can't form a good relationship with her coach. The girl who works the front desk always seems super grumpy and like she doesn't want to be there at all. My daughter's Aqua card wasn't in the bin, and zero effort was made to find it. I'm really disappointed and may need to pull her out and look at continuing her lessons elsewhere.

Aqua-tots was available immediately for our 3 kids (4.5, 3, 3) in the same class on Wednesday evenings. We live in North Salt Lake but it's worth the trek for sure. It's expensive with all 3 of them (we do one class a week) but they're learning so much and swimming this summer during vacations was way more enjoyable for us as parents because they're so much more comfortable in the water. The girls love coach Marissa and she does a great job being patient and helping them learn! I do wish they had more family size or slightly bigger changing rooms since it's a tight squeeze with all of us together but the facilities are otherwise great.
