We love Cody's! We found out about it a few summers ago because of some friends live in the area. It's a pet friendly neighborhood bar, you see and feel everyone knows each other which it's cool, but some times ordering in the bar can be an issue. They don't have food, but you can bring your own and they also have grills that you can reserve and have bbq there. We did it for a friend's bday. They have popcorn thoooo I love popcorn so I feel they lose money with me there lol It's very spacious inside and outside. Both areas have a bar, but only inside draft beers. I had a surprise bday party for my husband this year and everyone who hadn't been before loved it and had a great time. Highly recommend it for casual gathering with friends especially in summer when you can even bbq there.

Basic neighborhood bar that's a hangout for watching some games. Cody's is located in a pretty quiet area of Lakeview. It seems like most of what's around it is residential. For sure makes lots of sense if most patrons come from around it. This is kind of like going to a neighbor's backyard and having a party. At times it can be quiet, especially earlier. It's a good time though for checking out the bar itself. The bar is bigger than it looks, with back rooms for games, and a patio. It's about $7 for a basic cocktail. There's no kitchen but you can bring something to eat, and they have free popcorn. Also there's grills on the patio so you can even cook. They're also known for being dog friendly. Good place for a game. It only seems like it gets kind of packed at times with most knowing the bartenders pretty good so it can take a long time for someone else to order. They only have the popcorn, but you can bring in something from wherever.

Practically an automatic 5 star for being (truly) dog-friendly. When an establishment in the Midwest claims to be dog-friendly because they have an outdoor patio... that's like 3 months of the year assuming it's not raining. So maybe 25% dog friendly? Cody's truly understands dog people and I absolutely love them for it. After a frustrating time of Googling dog friendly breweries/bars in Chicago only to find out that most of them only allowed dogs outside, I came across Cody's Public House. My pup and I stopped in close to when they opened, and had a good chunk of the bar to ourselves. We got to say hi to a few other pups, explore the place via all the smells, and drink great beer. My dog had a great time rolling on the floor -- his sign of approval. There were a few other people at the bar, and it seemed to be a neighborhood spot where people knew each other by name. It's largely surrounded by neighborhood, and I just love the hometown feel. Bartender was friendly and attentive, and the space itself is actually quite large. I will definitely be back next time I'm visiting Chicago. After all, these are clearly my people.

This is the quintessential Chicago neighborhood bar. It is dog friendly and always a fun place to hang out. The staff is fantastic too.

Ask the Community - Cody's Public House

    Is this place ever open?

It’s been temporarily closed for maybe a month now. No update other than that.

What is going on with Cody's I have tried to go the past two Friday nights and the bar has been closed at 11:30 PM? (9/6/2019 & 9/13/2019)

I walked by last night and it was open - lights on, TVs on, back patio lit up. Not sure when it reopened but appears to have been very recent.

Big fan of this place…read more Came in for a quick drink before the show at the metro and was served right away, not overpriced and had a cool ambiance to the place. Will return!

Only giving two stars because of the lovely bartender that served us (didn't catch their name)…read more There was however, another bartender (blonde) that seemed to have some issue with my friend and I being in the bar. We came in around 1:15am, thinking this would be a cool bar to end the night. The first bartender informed us that last call was approaching. We only wanted one round, so we immediately closed out after ordering. That bartender was very attentive and pleasant during the entire transaction. At 1:50am, the other bartender (who wasn't even serving us/hadn't spoke to us) came over and said we needed to start chugging. Her words: "I'm not going to tell you to get the f* out, but you need to chug". She kept telling us we needed to chug, and I kindly told her I wasn't chugging anything because we already paid and I can literally just leave. She brought up the bar closing soon (we already heard the very loud announcement for last call). She proceeded to blame it on having a bad day. Mind you, someone next to me literally just came in, and was being served. She tried to back out of it and kept repeating we'll know when it's time to go. I'm not sure what kind of establishment this is, but she didn't say anything to anyone else but us, the only two Black women at the bar at the time. I don't understand why she felt like it was okay to direct her "bad day" at us, sitting there calmly with two half drunken beers, while there were plenty of other people still up and active at the bar. The behavior displayed, completely unacceptable.

This bar was awesome-- bartender was a guy called Scott who said he'd newly started but actually knew his stuff and converted my "just the one" plan into "I've got to be done at four lagers". Ask him for the Irish jokes-- he beat me at them, had me impressed-- and that's saying something, my Irish joke repertoire is, frankly, formidable. Ten Cat Tavern is pretty divey while being pretty nice at the same time. Kind of has a quiet coolness to it. Lots of cheap drinks and some more expensive stuff as well. As for the drinks it's mostly basic. It's about $6 for a cocktail. The cheapest ones include some pretty cheap whiskey. Also they have cheap cans of PBR. Seems like most people here are drinking beer, and these mostly are in bottles and cans like how a dive bar should. Also has a couple pool tables that somehow fit. The bar is pretty small but the coziness makes it charming though. Pretty clean. The place is dim so it's hard to know for sure. Got to mention for those who couldn't tell by the name that it's also pet friendly. It's usually dogs in here ironically. There's also a jukebox with a good collection of songs, and a few TVs for watching games or things.
