Solid stop while on a bar crawl! Place was pretty packed so we only came in for a sec to grab a drink for the Lakeview Dive Bar Classic. Drinks were quick and there was some seating. We were able to grab a four person high top, but unfortunately they didn't let half our group in because of how busy the place was. This is a dive, but with the best vibe. We had a great time stopping in for libations while the whole place just seemed really chill. I had been here in the past, when Jacqueline's was more busy later at night, and it was very fun. It's like a regular bar that embraces newbies. We came here late on a Friday night after a few of the places were were patronizing on Halsted were closing. The bartender here at Jacqueline's was really personable, though the drinks he said were his specialty and swore were going to be the best we'd had, really weren't great. We played a few rounds of darts, though I think the board was malfunctioning at times when keeping score...And when throwing here, one must be mindful of people walking past to go into the restrooms and then watch for them as they emerge as it'd be easy to injure someone. read more

Stumbled into this dive bar (I don't go to dive bars very often), but this place is awesome. I'm not sure if the lady's name that was bartending but she was soooo friendly and upbeat! There's a juke box that you can connect to your phone to play your own music which is awesome. I did find the prices to be on the higher end. I think I got 4 drinks total, and with the tip it came out to around $75. A bit pricey for a divey type bar in my honest opinion, but we loved the vibes from the server enough to wanna come back. The red wine was French and surprisingly delicious for such a divey place. The mezcal margarita was delicious!! I felt safe and had fun being there alone . Won't be back, EVER. Came in from the airport traveling from California on a 8 hour flight, staying at the hotel next door. Had 1 $15 drink and tipped the bartender a $20. I asked for a second LIT cuz I gotta go to bed and he said no. You can have a shot. He called last call, I left. then he hung out with his freind afterwards listening to music. He didn't get kicked out. No last call for him. I'm asain from California, so I was like is this reverse racism? I don't know. I'm not from Chicago. Either way, not very freindly. The first time I came here, someone's golden retriever immediately greeted me at the door. I felt like Annie: 'I think I'm gonna like it here!' Jacqueline's is pretty much the perfect neighborhood bar. It's cozy, the drinks are super reasonably priced and they have tons of liquor options. All the bartenders are all super chill too and do a good job balancing their time between regulars and not as frequent visitors. I brought my mom here and she and one of the bartenders came up with a drink together, which made her so happy. I came back a few weeks later and the bartender asked about her! If you're north of Belmont, this should be your go to dive bar. It's perfectly unassuming. I always have a great time, no matter what day or time I end up here. read more

I was surprised to see this place pop up on my feed today as a recommended neighborhood bar with good reviews. I live around the corner and will go just about anywhere else if I feel like going to a dive bar- there are so many options. We've stopped in Jacqueline's 3-4 times since we moved here and just don't like the atmosphere. And since you can drink cheaper beer at home, the only reason to go to a dive bar would be the social, cozy atmosphere. It seems to be patronized mainly by regulars who seem like they probably hang out here all day long. As soon as you walk in you are hit by a strong mildewy spilled drink/ bar odor. And I think twice when we've poked our heads in, the TVs were playing cartoons. Weird. I will say, despite the smell and the hard living clientele, the bartenders are friendly and they do allow dogs which is a plus. It's not all bad, but if I wanted to have a drink in the neighborhood, there are so many other spots that are less gritty. I suppose if you really want a spot where you can be a regular and live out a Cheers fantasy, you're more likely to find it somewhere like this. read more

A group of us came to Jacqueline's for a quick drink following the Pride parade. We went to the end of the bar where there was one open seat and my friend sat down. After about 5 minutes with no attention/greeting from staff, the sole bartender came over and berated my friend who was sitting in the chair to get up as this was "his chair" and didn't we see that his "drink and glasses were there." To be clear, this was not a customer but the BARTENDER and there were no other open seats. My friend apologized, ordered our shots, and we waited. In the meantime while we waited, my friend sat back down in the chair. When the bartender returned, he yelled at my friend again about sitting in the chair and was incredibly aggressive. He yelled that it was not funny that my friend was sitting in his chair and that he needed to get up immediately. He did not serve our drinks until my friend got up and after he verbally harrassed my friend that it was "not funny" that he sat in AN OPEN CHAIR MEANT FOR CUSTOMERS. There was no reason for this behavior and we all felt uncomfortable and unsafe. Will not be returning ever. read more

Jacqueline's is a cozy little neighborhood bar in Lakeview on Broadway. It's never jam packed, the bartender is always friendly, and the place has some interesting cow-themed artwork. The beers are cold, the drinks are stiff, and you can't go wrong with this dive bar. It is a bit narrow so if you have a group of more than 3-4 people it's tough to all sit at the same table however it's not impossible. We've pulled chairs up to their high top tables along the wall a few times and managed just fine. Another thing I like about Jacqueline's is the Christmas village set up on the bar by the window during the holidays. What can I say? It's the small things I suppose. Will I come back? I never leave reviews but seemed very important for me to. The first time I went to this bar, the bartender was awesome. She was so great I wanted to go back again so I did last night. I showed up and it was a different bartender. Totally fine, I'll meet my date and get a drink. I am sitting chatting with my date and I am yelled at across the bar to buy a drink. I mean yelled at. It was shocking and I thought he was joking. I of course ordered my drink (a beer) and went back to my table. I am not much of a drinker and while Im half way through my drink he drops the check, slams it on the table. "wow, one drink in an hour" like what? We continue on we laugh about it, Im still nursing my beer when he barks across the bar "you have not gotten a drink for three hours" This wasnt true but wanted to make sure the entire bar heard (it was empty), "this is a bar and you come to drink alcohol not to talk. You either drink or get out. you are loitering." This is a Monday night mind you. I respond "I am planning on getting another drink once I'm finished -" He interrupts and raises his voice "are you arguing with me now? Are you trying to argue? I'll kick you out for arguing" "woah i am really not looking to argue I promise" "well you are just chatting so theres the door." I didn't even finish my beer and my date did. we were about to order more and have friends meet us in this empty bar. I felt so uncomfortable, very pressured, and extremely unsafe. This was a big man, throwing our check, calling us names under his breath, talking about us to other customers, inside an empty bar on a Monday night. I couldn't recommend this bar less. If you want to feel safe in a gay neighborhood and not pressured, go to Roscoes. I ordered a water and tipped 600% (which I always do). You don't need to drink when you go to a bar, and you don't need to feel pressured by rude men. read more

When related we weren't carrying vax proof (in AUG 2022!!) he told us they required it. Expressed our displeasure... he expressed he didn't like our attitude, we left. My buddy gave the bartender his card to start a tab. Finished our drinks and asked for the bill. Turns out the bartender had accidentally given his card to someone else, but rather just admitting it he got angry and accused my buddy of not giving him a card for the tab (doesn't make sense, how could we have gotten our drinks?). Accidents happen, not a big deal, but to gaslight us and accuse us of his mistake is pretty screwed up. I have walked past Jacqueline's hundreds of times and have never walked in until recently. My mistake. This Friday night, I was not looking for frills. I did not want to throw on a pair of heels and get eyeballed by some just became legal kid with a popped collar and a fake bake. I wanted a cold drink, a comfy seat, some good music, and no nonsense. I got all of that just from walking around the corner from my place to Jacqueline's. I got there early, so there was only a handful of people around. As the night goes on, it got busier, with people popping in and out, as some would leave, more would come in. This place attracts a diverse crowd, young and old, gay and straight, dressed up and dressed down. A lot of the people there are regulars. That always intimidates me as a newbie, but everyone was very friend and I had plenty of good conversation going. And let me not forget: the price was definitely right. My tab was $15 for about 4 drinks. I can dig it. I won't be as close to Jacqueline's as I am now, moving apartments again, but I certainly plan to take the few blocks' trip to return. read more

I walked in with a group of friends, expecting an easy experience ordering a drink. The bartender was immediately aggravated by us asking about what specific whiskeys they had. We tried to order a drink, and he didn't acknowledge it. We then asked again if we could order a drink, and his response was, "I raised my hand and pointed to the liquor. DO I NEED TO REPEAT MYSELF???" So rude and inconsiderate. He clearly didn't want or need our business. We got up and walked out. I was appalled. So crazy...this place looks like a little trinket shop from a short glance from outside--at least that is what I thought the millions of times I walked by it on Broadway. Perhaps it's also the pleasant name "Jacqueline's" that gave me that vibe. All that aside--I found this dive bar to be quite charming. On a weekday it's not crowded at all, but that is to be expected. The locals, jukebox, cheap drinks, and entertaining bartender made my experience worthwhile. What bar gives you an olympic rating on your burps?! This one! What bar hosts the perfect mix of crazy locals bantering with bartenders about politics...you got it, this one! The best part was that none of it made me feel uncomfortable. It really is such a chill place to grab a drink and relax. Best corner bar around, and the primary reason is the lovely owner, Jacqueline - yes, kids, there really IS a Jacqueline! Great drinks poured by great staff, and a very homey and inviting atmosphere. Drop in anytime, you will receive a nice welcome, and before you know it, you'll be part of the Jacqueline's "gang". We need more places like Jacqueline's to help us de-stress from our hectic urban lives...this is a perfect place to unwind and have some fun and some laughs :-) read more

Looked for a place to sit after pride parade- no easy feat. This place was a cute local dive, and bartender (Jason I think?) was awesome. I was melting and asked for "something with effen cucumber"- and I got an insanely strong, insanely delicious concoction. Downside- place is too quiet if you don't play jukebox. And the manager wouldn't let bartender put on the radio. Only one bathroom stall, but that's to be expected for small spot. Also, not sure if it was bc pride, but getting drinks in red solo cups indoors is just insulting. I wasn't sitting at the kids table, and if I'm paying Chicago bar prices, can I at least get a plastic cup a step above beer pong? read more
