First time was back on July 2011 and it was fun I thought it was wicked short at first got wicked wet Today I was on it with my cousin and her daughter who was 9, she first was a little scared but once the speed and waves started she loved it , today I felt the ride was longer and the crew was awesome especially the narrator liz who was comical and got interrupted by Seagulls lmao So much fun! Let me tell you, I was a skeptic at first. Reviews were all over the place, but boy was I pleasantly surprised. I'm having a hard time putting my experience into words. Have you ever scored a game winning touchdown? How about a walk-off home run. 12th round knockout? I haven't experienced any of those things, but I assume my Codzilla experience was similar to all three of those. It was absolutely EXHILARATING. Word is that Codzilla was founded by two former NASA scientists that were removed from the Mars 2020 project for, I quote, "engineering rockets that were too crazy and fun." Crank some ACDC and slap those rockets on your boat and you have the behometh that is Codzilla. In 2015, there was a case study of 5 adolescent males (ranging from 12-15 in age) that rode Codzilla multiple times on a weekly basis. After three weeks, their trips transitioned from a habitual excursions to a visceral need. Codzilla can increase adrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin levels to amounts higher than previously perceived as possible. To this date, these five adolescents are in still in therapy trying to recover from their Codzilla withdrawals. They say they no longer feel emotions unless they're on Codzilla. This has since been known as catching a "case of the 'Zills." I do implore that everyone try Codzilla at least once, but please do so in moderation. read more

I had the bright idea to hit the water with a friend on a fun, and sunny Sunday. A regular harbor cruise sounded too pedestrian for a rough, and ready action man like me, but the bright colors, and sharp fangs of the Codzilla logo called out to my adventurous side. Without knowing much more about it than that, I bought a ticket, and got in line. The boat leaves every hour on the hour for a speed boat ride. Boston Harbor Cruises has a ticket booth, but I strongly recommend buying your tickets in advance if you are on a schedule. There is no guarantee that a given trip will have room for you, and then you will just have an hour to kill while waiting for the next one. That was me on Sunday. I actually spent the time sitting, and enjoying the weather as you should be. You are out on the waterfront. Tourists are out, doing the touristy things so the people watching is excellent. Unless you are the Gordon's fisherman, I assume that the weather is nice enough to make you want to cruise the waves, so it was not a bad wait. I also got to be first in line once the boat left for the preceding trip, and spent a lot of time with the warning sign. Just to hit the salient points, the sign warns that you will hit speeds up to 40 MPH, you may get extremely wet, and that you should not ride Codzilla with any serious medical conditions. I was feeling especially bad ass on the day, fit as a fiddle, and was not pregnant, so I was mainly interested in how we could get. I know that I wrote "extremely wet", but the sign actually says "EXTREMELY WET" in caps, so I wanted to know how wet is extremely wet. Is it wet like taking a shower? Is it wet like jumping directly into the harbor? That is just normal wet. We all know that wet. Extreme wetness sounds like more, so much more. I wanted that Davey Jone's locker wetness. I wanted that Poseidon, god of the seas level wetness. I wanted to get wet like drinking some Evian in my swimming pool in a hurricane while a tsunami washes over the land. Yeah, that is extreme wetness, all right. With my expectations properly set, the boat arrived, and I got to watch the previous group disembark. Some were soaked. Some clearly wore the ponchos, and only got kind of wet. The game was afoot. I got on, and sat at the front. All joking aside, it is a speed boat thrill ride. The driver goes out of his way to make huge wakes, hit bumps, and make sharp turns. If he could safely do wheelies on a boat, I am sure that he would. It was pretty fun for a land lubber like me, because it was a new experience. No amount of speed and tricks will make you have fun if you want to be an EXTREMELY WET blanket, but if you come in with a positive attitude and an open mind then it is pretty great. Every one is there to have a good time, and spend a few minutes on the water so just let the good times wash over you, pun intended. read more

I've been on Codzilla twice. I think that for people that haven't been on many boats, it is a fun ride and a good way to kill some time in Boston as a tourist. Codzilla is by no means a unique thing. Codzilla is one of many aluminum speed boats built by Ocean Rockets in New Jersey. Most major cities have their own version. NYC's version is called The Beast, Chicago's is called Sea Dog. These Ocean Rocket boats come in 50 and 70 foot versions with both conventional prop or jet drive. Codzilla happens to be a 70 foot jet driven model. The Jet drive gives Codzilla a bit more maneuverability, but probably costs a bit of top end speed. There are a few used models of Ocean Rockets on sale for around 375-650K if you are interested in buying one yourself. Overall the ride is exactly what it advertises. They take you out on a speed boat. You go fast. You might get wet. You come back. There is some music. A person talks while you are in the no wake zone. I think that the 30 dollar entry fee is quite reasonable. Anyone that owns a boat understands what a money pit they can be even when they are running correctly. Especially a boat that runs faster than your typical displacement type ferry boat. I've never taken our boat on a 45min 40mph cruise that only costs me 30 dollars. The prices that Boston Harbor Cruises charge is right in line with what NYC charges for The Beast (29 dollars), and Chicago charges for Sea Dog (32 dollars). To give some perspective to people who don't run or own boats themselves, lets do some math. I couldn't find fuel burn numbers for the Ocean Rocket, but a 70 foot Sportfish type boat with diesels will burn about 270 gallons per hour when running. Say the trip overall is about 45 minutes long. Thats 200 gallons. Diesel at the docks can run as high as 3 dollars a gallon. That's 600 dollars on just fuel. So just to break even on the fuel you burned, you need at least 20 passengers on that boat. Then take into account the docking slip fees, maintenance costs, salaries for the crew, insurance, etc, and 30 dollars seems suddenly reasonable. When you think people are joking that their boat is just a hole in the water that they pour money into, they aren't actually joking. Those complaining about the no wake zone have to realize that it is the law, and must be obeyed by all boats. No wake zones are put up for a reason. People ignoring the no wake zone, especially in a boat as large as a 70 foot Ocean Rocket can cause serious damage to docked boats and other shoreline assets. Yes it sucks that Boston harbor has such a long no wake zone, but during that time the engines are still burning fuel and people are still getting paid to drive that boat. Personally I don't feel the need to go on Codzilla because I get the same thrills running by own boat (which goes about 10mph faster and I can catch real baby Codzillas on), however Codzilla is probably the cheapest method to get on a speedboat that does 40 mph. I took a few friends that haven't been on a speed boat and they all liked it. Your other alternative is to rent a small speed boat which will definitely cost much more. Boating is costly. Unless you expect Boston Harbor Cruises to run Codzilla at a loss, they will pass those costs to you. read more

Super cute boat ride. I didn't get too wet, which I enjoyed and they did their best to come up with some ridiculous cod story. It was fun- and a much better way to spend an afternoon of good weather instead of sitting at an outdoor bar. The boat goes fast and is pretty nimble for its size. It's about an hour and a fun way to get out on the open water for some laughs with friends. Staff are very friendly and seem to enjoy working here. Also, captain Nancy was great and took some pics of me and talked about the boat. Gman Mike was the storyteller and both are very well suited for the hospitality business. Both my Father and my boyfriend desperately wanted to ride Codzilla, so I killed two birds with one stone and invited them both as my dates last Sunday. First things first- tickets are moderately expensive ($29 for adults, $27 for seniors, $25 for children under between the ages of 3-11) for a 40 minute trip. You can purchase tickets either through the Boston Harbor Cruises website, or through Trip Advisor's "Viator" website. If you book through the former- you have the ability to purchase an Aquarium/Codzilla deal. Codzilla's schedule is as follows: From June 27- September 7: 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 5:00 PM & 6:00 PM; The rest of spring/summer- no trips later than 4, and closed from Mid-October until May. I recommend getting in line a half an hour early, especially if you want a chance at prime seating on the boat. Speaking of prime seating, here is the trick- If you value bumps and dangerous curves- sit in the first 5 rows of the boat. If you would rather get splashed- sit in the back. If you sit in the first 5 rows, you are required to wear a seatbelt. Prior to boarding the boat, you will be offered a free poncho. It was a hot day- so I went without, and used it instead to protect my leather bag from getting soaked. Each Codzilla expedition includes a "tour guide" Ours was great. Although the jokes were a bit cheesy (Trump jokes, poop jokes, Yankees suck jokes) - her energy was infectious, and we all gamely laughed along. The first 10 minutes of Codzilla are low key- the boat can't go above the speed limit until it passes a green buoy. While you wait for satiation of your need for speed- the boat blasts AC/DC, Drop Kick Murphy and Rolling Stones songs at you. Once you pass the green buoy- all bets are off - for approximately 20-30 minutes, the boat will zoom around, making quick turns, riding waves, and generally behaving dangerously. It's a lot of fun. My face was fixed with a permanent smile the whole time. My knuckles were white from gripping the grab bar out of fear. My Dad and boyfriend played air guitar along with the music. Final word? Great way to spend 40 minutes, I just wish it was a little longer! read more

When to go: 1.) It's Hot. Like really hot. 2.) You have a child to entertain 3.) You enjoy cleansing yourself with the salt and decomp of the Boston Harbor. When not to go: 1.) As corporate entertainment 2.) When you need to go anywhere directly after, like say dinner with your boss and boss's boss. 3.) When both of the above are happening on the same night. You can guess the circumstances surrounding my short ride. Please be warned. You may think, as I did, that you get a little spritzed with the briny water, like a log flume. Not the case. You get full on, head to tow, Carrie style soaked. Really. The scripted banter of the crew was cute, and at times even funny, and the ride was quite unlike anything I've done before, but I've learned my lesson about peer pressure. Its always fun feeling like a tourist in your own city and thats how I felt when taking a ride on the codzilla. I had no idea what to expect. But I did know it was 90 out and I was so hot, so being on the water sounded great. The boat fits about 100 hundred people, and our group were first inline to get on, so we went right to the front. It was a bit slow getting started, we were supposed to get going at 2:00, but the engines didn't start till about 2:15. No big deal, but I was sweating like a wh*re in church while waiting. Once the baot got going we got a brief history about some of the landmarks we passed. That was nice. History is always fun. However, I was so anxious because I had no idea what to expect on this "ride" that I had trouble paying attention to the history. Then the most annoying part of the whole ride started. They do this stupid acting skit thing. Its so bad. Some dumb story line and bad fake pirate accents. I was able to block it out pretty easy. Now the fun starts! The boat takes off and hits every wake in its way. It makes sharp turns and sudden stops and you get soaked! But its so fun and feels so great on a hot summer day. My poor friend was soaked within the first wave, but we all caught up pretty fast. The ride is about 45 minutes total. Its a ton of fun, you'll laugh alot, but try and keep your mouth closed or it will be full of salt water. If your not into getting wet and walking around Boston after, then this is not for you. But tourist or not, this is a ton of fun! P.S. I suggest going as a group as I think it might be a bit pricey. I was with a group and it was only $20 per person. read more

YA FREAKING WHO! Loved every single minute of it! YES there was a cheezy story about some giant cod..Who cares? It was hilarious. You have to talk about something when you are slowly getting through the no wake zone..Hello? The minute the engines were roaring and I heard AC/DC's "Back in Black" I knew I was in for some serious fun!! I sat around the 5th row towards the front and I was ready to get soaked!! Bring it on Codzilla! But, mostly the people in the back got it..Damn it! Next time..I'm heading to the back! Codzilla takes these nasty little turns and twists and it's really fun! You don't get seasick and it's not like a carnival ride. It's hard to explain! It's 40 minutes of pure fun! I wish it was longer!! The staff is a little over the top and the ride back is really nice when you get to see all of Boston and how beautiful our city really is! The only thing I thought was cheezy is how they announced that they accepted tips..I mean come on! HELLO..we're on your boat for 40 minutes..You didn't do anything for us. Did you serve drinks. NO! Did you even help me on the boat? Ahm, NO? Why would I tip you? I just paid to get on the boat..come on now... Being that his zipper was 1/4 way down the entire voyage..I so wanted to yell out: "Here's your tip: "You may want to zip...before worrying about a tip!" This is one of those things you should take your out-of-town friends to. Drop them off and check back in later though... Overall the experience is fun, but the cheesy storyline from the possibly crazy "third generation" fishmonger was over the top. In fairness, the kids on board LOVED it so I give them props for that. I'm not sure what the deal was but per the video online I came prepped to be drenched. Thankfully that didn't happen, I just left with effed up hair. Once out in the water the boat is quite fun I just wish it went faster for a longer time. I suppose that's not feasible in the harbor but from the videos and online information I expected to be completely shaken upon returning...not so much. I've been on good jet boat tours, and Codzilla is NOT one of them. It starts out with some cheesy story about cod, a few pieces of history get thrown in (but interrupted by the pirate-sounding guy), then the boat makes a few 360-circles, then you get off. We did not get wet. We did not do any fast stops. We did not learn nearly as much as I expected from a history-filled city like Boston. Definitely fun for a one-time thing. I sat in the front/middle of the boat and did get splashed a little but was blow-dried off by the speed of the boat by the time we got back to the dock. YOU WILL GET WET IF YOU SIT IN THE BACK. The people I saw who sat behind were pretty drenched. I really was expecting more for the "show" part of it, but it was only mildly entertaining, brimming with terrible puns that weren't even groan-funny. Kids won't care though, and for 40 minutes I can stand almost anything. The views were great and we had a plane fly right over us to land at Logan which was pretty cool. I think the speakers on my side of the boat were broken, so the only music I could hear was faint and coming from the other side of the boat, which was fine when we were docked, but after we were under way I had only the vaguest sense that there was music being played. Not a big deal for me really, but worth mentioning. Overall, wouldn't go again, (I'm local anyway) but don't regret going. read more

After drinking many a fish bowl by the pier where Codzilla docks, I was quiet intrigued to experience Codzilla for myself. It was about 90 degrees the day we went, so we were excited and prepared to get soaked. However the ll ride we were promised ended up being way more family friendly then I had anticipated. There were a few sharp turns and we did get splashed once, but all and all its nothing spectacular. A note to parents....ironically they make this out to be a kid friendly affair, however no joke, every single child was crying at the end of it. And I mean every child. The kids were probably between ages 6-11 and from what I could over hear through their sobs they were pretty convinced they were going to fall over board. rest assured that it appeared to be 100% safe. Was it worth $26.00....yes to do it once,but I wouldn't pay to do it again I don't think. read more

In the depths of the Atlantic ocean, right in Boston Harbor...lurks a huge, mutated cod that thirsts for the blood of sailors and unsuspecting tourists! Cheesy...yes...helluva a good time? You betcha! Codzilla is so much fun - once in open water (out of the harbor) the boat speeds and whips you around all while blasting awesome 80's rock music. The "captain" and the "crew" are a lot of fun and they play up the cheese factor, but it is a fun 40 minute ride on a summer day. This is something we had been meaning to do and after a failed trip to stowe VT we did this with another couple on sunday. The boat ride is a blast. Know how a poop plant in boston have connections with orange juice form florida was awesome and really funny. Coming back to the boar ride... this boat can rip through the water really quick and when they say you get wet you really do get wet and i mean really really wet. We sat in the seventh row and the boat was not all filled up. The ride took about 30 minutes or so. Lots of sudden braking and sharp turns gets your adrenaline pumping. It is one of the most fun thing i have done in a while. Beware of very very salty water getting in your mouth. read more

A very fun experience. The MC was cool. He gave a brief history of the harbor and Boston. Fun part was the ride. It went flying on the water on several speeds and with several speed bumps. Great for kids. The storyline is a little corny but the 70-80 kids on board with us loved it. We sat up front and never got wet but the passengers in the back were throughly soaked. As adults, we enjoyed the scenery in the harbor and fun ride. I personally loved the music on board. It has to be loud in order to hear over the wind once the boat gets going. So if you're sensitive to loud noises, I would not recommend this ride. The view of the city on the way back is amazing. It is going slow because of the no wake zone but the crew lets you get up out of your seat for photos. I would recommend booking your tickets directly with Boston Harbor Cruises (BHC). We saw a few guests that were turned away because they booked through a 3rd party but the reservation was never confirmed. read more

What a fun ride! Short, but fun! I brought some students on here to see if it was worth the money and I got some mixed reviews. While I enjoyed it some of my group pretended that it was just "OK" even though I have videos of them laughing and screaming. You willl get wet so be prepared. Apparently the back of the boat gets wettest, but we got some slaps in the face in the front. The story that goes along with the ride is a little cheesy, but all in all it was pretty fun zipping around the harbor at high speeds. read more

Great fun! yes it's a short ride (45 minutes) but it's lots of fun! To be honest, towards the end I was like "ok let's call it a day". It had positives and negatives. For starters, the woman who was supposed to provide information throughout the ride, he mic didn't work so you couldn't hear a word she said. This is a great thrill ride, and a perfect activity on a hot day. The speed and maneuvering are terrific, well beyond anything we'd try on our own boat. We first went on the tour when my daughter was age 8, she loved it and we've gone every year since - planning to board Codzilla for a fourth time this summer. ...editing/updated - for our 4th ride I wish we waited until later in the season when the skipper might have been more confident. For the most part, I enjoyed riding Codzilla. It's a fun ride around Boston Harbor for adults and kids. The crew members do a funny little skit (scripted) that garners a handful of laughs and smiles. What to expect; 1) Good music (if you like ACDC, Van Halen, Beastie Boys...) 2) The skit mentioned above 3) If you have long hair, to need a brush after the ride is over. 4) To get WET. Note: Keep your mouth shut, the water is salty. I had a lot of fun once we started heading away from the dock. It was really hot out, but once the wind started whipping at my hair and face, it was nice. Note: take off your sunglasses, hats, and anything else you don't want to lose. And don't count on only getting a little wet. Chances are you're going to be SOAKED. read more

Born and bred local looking for some tourist fun...Codzilla definitely fit the bill! The stupid story they tell you about the mutated cod could go, I honestly tried not to pay attention to it at all. Just seeing Southie, East Boston, the Tall Ships, Winthrop, etc from the water is enough to entertain me, don't need some unfunny act. I sat in the very front of the boat, which in my opinion, is the only place to be, wind in the hair, seeing everything. The boat does go fast, and the turns are really fun, although they only do about five of them. After getting off, my friend and I only hand one negative about the ride, too expensive. It is very short. Someone else mentioned the tipping request. My first thought when I heard that was, Take the huge profit you are making from the ticket price and pay your boat staff a bit more, don't ask for tips. But, it is right next to the Aquarium, so they got to sucker in the tourists right? Overall, I would definitely recommend, good for locals and out of towners alike. read more
