What a cute local coffee shop! I just admit, when I am home I rarely go out for coffee, but when I do- I am going to find a local small business. I was suggested the Coffee Hound by a local while I was in town for an IEA event, and I was pleased with my purchase. I appreciated the open support of the LGBTQ community in the signage, and the service was very friendly. I went with an ice vanilla latte- my starter beverage everywhere- and it was great. If you like your coffee sweet, I'd ask for some extra syrup- but it was perfect for me. The next time I'm back in Normal I'll stop in here again for sure! read more

I don't normally write Yelp reviews, and overall I've always liked Coffee Hound. But my experience this morning left me feeling surprisingly unwelcome, and I think it's worth sharing. I stopped in to pick up a coffee for my wife--Coffee Hound is her favorite, and I passed several other options just to come here. I was greeted by a friendly person at the counter who took my order, and the barista who made my drink was equally pleasant. Up to that point, everything was exactly what I expect from Coffee Hound. Because I was taking the drink to go, I asked the barista if I could take one of the drink stoppers that were sitting on the counter. She told me yes. As I reached for it, another employee--who I believe was the manager--stepped in and, in a very sharp and condescending tone, said: "Next time, please ask before you take one of those." Had she simply not heard me ask, that would have been an easy misunderstanding. But the tone was unnecessarily harsh, and it made me feel as if I were doing something wrong or trying to take something without permission. When the barista immediately confirmed that I had asked, there was still no apology, no acknowledgment, and no attempt to reset the interaction. A simple "Oh, sorry--I didn't realize you asked" would have resolved everything. Instead, it turned what had been a pleasant stop into an uncomfortable one. No customer should walk away from buying a cup of coffee feeling talked down to. Coffee is expensive enough these days; courtesy shouldn't be extra. For now, I'll be going to the Main Street location instead. I hope this helps the staff reflect on how even small interactions can significantly affect a customer's experience--especially at seven in the morning. read more

I ordered an Iced Americano. It tasted like light-medium roasted, while my personal preference would be much darker/more bitter than this. It is a good place for study and work, the wifi is smooth, the environment is clean, and the baristas are nice and friendly. (4 out of 5 only due to my personal taste preferences!) read more

The coffee was delicious and employees were so sweet but I spent $20 on two drinks for my partner and I! I would understand this from a local cafe with specialty beans for that fresh taste but the payoff was not worth it. Disappointed and sad to say I won't and cannot afford to return. I'm embarrassed to say that I had coffee hound for the first time a few days ago. I got an ice oat milk latte, the barista asked if i wanted a flavor and i asked for her recommendation, she recommended Mexican mocha if you like cinnamon. I decided to try it and I was not disappointed, it was one of the best iced coffees i have tried. Will definitely be back again soon! read more

Nice little coffee shop in uptown normal. It's right next door to the theater and a couple of the hotels in town, and just a few blocks from some of the Illinois State University housing and administrative buildings. The service was friendly, which of course I appreciate. I had a Tiger chai, which was explained as being a bit spicier and having some honey as well. They have limited food offerings; you can purchase loaves of fresh baked bread , or they have toast (including avocado toast), yogurt, some pastries, and granola. The shop is very clean, and there is lots of seating, not at tables and a couple little bar areas. Free one-hour parking is available on North Avenue, though I suspect it can be difficult to find a space at times. They also offer free WiFi. Well worth a stop if you're in Normal and need a coffee fix. read more

Prior to the pandemic, I absolutely loved this location. Seating remains clustered together, not taking advantage of the space. The call ahead ready table is only accessible by walking past and between numerous other tables, rather than being at the front of the store to make it accessible. And most problematic, the online ordering system frequently fails me. My order is often ready 10 or 15 minutes beyond the 15+ minutes the system already gave me, the curbside text and call in number does not function, and I've had to try to get several of my orders now refunded because after half an hour the drink still wasn't ready. Love the business, and want it to remain - and the staff is still the area's best, but they're really having problems integrating order ahead technology then flow within the store to the point of once-loyal customer is now preferring alternate coffee locations. read more

Great location with fun and polite staff serving a well thought out menu in keeping with European grounds. I enjoyed a basic chai with cinnamon sprinkled all over the topside for some extra zest. I really love Coffeehound, this location has a nice vibe too - it will be mostly students. The staff here almost never get my order right, sometimes it's what's in my order but usually it's just that they made all orders to go - even when specifically the order is for in-house. I like to not waste the materials in the to-go cups and when they make the cortados to go they don't give you the sparkling water. read more

Cute local place, seemed to have a decent crowd, but my wife is a big coffe drinker anf thought it was fairly weak and tasteless. Granted, that's pretty much a staple of the Midwest but still not what you expect at a shop like this. We visited after noon and only found a couple food items left in the case but if everything is gone I'm guessing that's a good sign. I had the Italian soda and it was fantastic the amount of syrup was perfect and it was a great Italian soda. Hands down the best coffee in Bloomington-Normal, AND they roast their own beans with care and precision. Full disclosure: I worked here for a time in college, around 2011-2013, so I may be a bit biased. I will say though that the owners are passionate and care deeply about their business, their customers, and their employees. The employees themselves are extremely knowledgeable; they receive hands-on training and partake in frequent coffee tastings. Getting your drinks from Coffee Hound, or buying their retail products, is the essence of supporting local businesses. We popped in inbour way home from a college visit to @isu. These guys roast their own beans and the pastries and baked goods are baked fresh also. We tried the pumpkin spice cake and the Amish cake with our hot chocolates and American. I would definitely come back here, especially if our daughter returns to ISU as a student. Great big windows are great for gawking at hot young coeds of either gender, and tables outside if you like to get stalker close. Tables inside are plenty but outlets are few. So be a friend and bring a outlet strip to share. There is usually one lying around, but drop the antisocial bit for a sec and make new acquaintances. The street parking is a joke, but that's the town's fault. If you can't parallel park around those stupid curby things they installed for shrubberies, then go to one of the parking garages and save those spots for people who know what they're doing. read more

I found this establishment to be lacking both in comfort and barista personality. I have seen many pictures of lattes with unbelievable foam art creations on the top. I thought I would enjoy a little latte art. There was nothing artistic about my drink. Although the person after me clearly knew the barista. They not only got their drink before I did, it was a stunning masterpiece of swirls and a flower looking something like a lotus flower. I had never been here and found the barista to be cool at best (at least after she was done talking to her friend). Seems like you need to be in the 'in club' here in order to get pretty dinks and good service. The person that took my order was borderline rude. To top it all off communication between the two was terrible! I ordered a white chocolate latte with the addition of a flavor syrup. I couldn't even taste the flavor syrup which leads me to believe it eas never used. Not a problem, people make mistakes. When I brought it back to them I waited and was blatantly ignored for 5 minutes despite saying 'excuse me' in a politely audible tone. They told me they put it in and never offered to fix it. I asked if the syrup had a color as raspberry usually has a pinkish red color. They told me again that they used the syrup and did not answer the question. I was not impressed which is a shame since the latte was otherwise enjoyable. The environment is about what you would generally expect of a coffee shop. Varried table sizes, a few plug ins, art on the walls. However it seemed everywhere I stood or sat in the building had a light hitting me square in the eyes. It makes you wish you had a visor to shield your eyes. I really hope this was simply an isolated bad experience and when I return for my customary second look after having a bad experience, it will not be the same as the first. Coffee Hound is a trendy and modern spot for our small BloNo crowd. The fresh coffee aromas match the equally fresh beans and the equally fresh-made (daily) vegan friendly bakery items. Surprising on the latter, I know! The staff is always attentive to your special requests and always have enough soy milk for snobs like myself. The interior is barely cramped but kinda cozy. My go-to order is a 12-oz. Mexican White Chocolate Latte with Soy and a Cranberry Orange scone. Parking could be an issue if one chooses to come at a peak time, otherwise not an issue. read more

We visited on a saturday early afternoon. The inside was clean and had a nice vibe to it. When we got there it looked like most of their pastry items had been sold so we got a spicy pineapple scone, it was supposed to have pepper and pineapple in it but it just tasted like a regular scone with no flavor. I got a mocha latte and i thought it was really good and the size of the cups are actually pretty large in my opinion. It looked like there were only a couple of guys working so the line got long pretty quickly but it seemed like everyone was having a good time in this cafe. I would definitely visit again. read more
