The Coffee Hound is the best coffee spot in the Bloomington/Normal area. They are consistent and quick with their service. It feels great to support a local business that delivers each time. I really enjoyed my iced Hazelnut coffee. I didn't have anything to eat while here but their selection of pastries looked great. Will surely come back. read more

When the right barista is working, Coffee Hound has some of the world's best espresso--better even than Intelligentsia in Chicago. They do everything right; they roast their own coffee, grind it fresh for each shot, and keep their beautiful high-end equipment clean. Unfortunately, they aren't consistent at all. Some of their baristas can't properly pull a double espresso. It sucked to first find CH and get the best shot of my life, only to return and get a watery, over-extracted shot with no crema. I've come here many times, and maybe 30% of the time do I get that kind of awesome shot. Their drip coffee is brewed weakly, probably to save money. The downtown Bloomington location seems to be a little more consistent. Listen up Coffee Hound: latte art is pointless without a consistently good espresso base. read more

Disclaimer: I am NOT a coffee junkie nor a connoisseur. I simply enjoy a cup from time to time. And when I do have the desire for some coffee, I come to either Coffee Hound location, usually the Normal one because it's closer. They're both good and there isn't a difference in quality. This location has plenty of space inside and out on the sidewalk. I never get anything other than straight black coffee, and I usually just ask the staff what beans they have available for French press that day. Then I go with their recommendation, because I assume that they know more about coffee than I do. The coffee is always good. Nuanced, with subtleties and interesting notes depending on the beans used. I've heard their chocolate/flavored drinks are excellent as well, but when I drink coffee I want coffee, not chocolate. I don't know why people complain about the prices. They seem fine to me. But then again, I drink a cup a week, maybe, so I don't have to factor coffee into my budget like a junkie. Long story short: They make good coffee. Don't be a douchebag and give Starbucks your money when you could come here instead. read more

Coffee Hound is the best coffee place in BloNo. Today I just bought beans to go but usually I get the iced latte, tiger chia or a regular latte. The treats they offer vary by day as they make them in house, the scones are delicious and the strawberry bars are so good I could eat ten of them. I highly recommend making a trip to the coffee hound. I crave the iced vanilla lattes daily. read more

I grew up in Normal and when I return - I make a point to get coffee here. I'm a really nice person but can admit that I'm a coffee snob. I don't prefer drip coffee or bad espresso. I seek out fabulous coffeeshops in every city I visit and The Coffee Hound stacks up! Their macchiato is fabulous and they serve it with a glass of Perrier or possibly their own carbonated water? Time for an update! Everything in my original review stands, except they've fixed the ladies restroom issue, so now five stars. One thing worth mentioning because not enough people are talking about it, is the quality and diversity of their baked goods. Every day there are fresh-baked and from- scratch muffins, scones, bagels, cookies, and even gluten free and paleo items if you are into that! If you are staying at the Marriott and are looking for a quick light breakfast, their whole wheat scones will keep you going all morning. On the weekend they do special items like croissants (the almond one and the chocolate ones are to-die-for, plain not as much), cinnamon rolls, pumpkin bread, etc. These sell very quickly so it is worth getting there as early as you can. read more

Ok, so the Hound is the place to go for Coffee in B/N. As you see from most of the reviews here, the experience is outstanding. A couple of negative reviews note the personalities of the Baristas. I couldn't disagree more. The staff are all very friendly and engaging. There are times when they are busy (peak periods) and so the barista isn't going to start a long convo when she's got six more drinks waiting behind you. It's coffee not a cab ride. All that said, the baristas are artists and as you can note from both your frothy beverage and the displayed plaques, they've won many awards. My only criticism is the seating. While far superior to that big chain from Seattle that clearly wants you to get a cup and get out ... the Hound has many seats and free WiFI. However, I'm always looking for more power outlets and there have been many times I had to wait for a seat. In some ways this is a testament to the popularity and success. If you live in B/N and haven't found the Hound in either downtown Bloomington or uptown Normal, what are you waiting for? read more

Amazing place to go to get some homework done on your downtime! Their coffee is amazing no matter what you get, I prefer cold coffee but have enjoyed a hot cup here several times! I highly recommend the avocado toast! It is a filling meal that taste refreshing! And the staff is so polite! Stop in here if you get the chance! read more

If you're used to Dunkin and/or Starbucks pumpkin flavor.. you won't like Coffee Hound's pumpkin flavor. Very different, wasn't for me.

Solid coffee shop -- bonus points for having cold brew nitro on draft! Plenty of seating options, both inside and out. If you are in the area and looking for a good cup of coffee or espresso drink, this is your place. While I didn't try any food items, their breakfast pastries look homemade and crafted. Pretty piss poor service, I asked if they had any mint flavoring to add to my mocha. I was told no, with no offer of any other flavor adds in place of. Then she asked me if I wanted my receipt, and I responded with, how do I add my points for rewards.. "Our system is down, so it won't let me do it". Really, No alternatives on how to make it a better experience for your customers??? May as well go to Starbucks if that's how I'm going to be treated for spending money at your business! read more

The past three times I have gone to CoffeeHound they have been out of Chai Tea. The two times before that the Chai didn't taste like it normally does, it had an extremely milky taste to it. I'm not sure what's happening to my beloved CoffeeHound but Im nervous it won't be the same again. So, Coffee Hound is definitely the fanciest coffee in Normal. I just have a hard time loving it. It's hard to hang out here, unlike the Coffeehouse down the street. I don't know what it is - the staff were great, and I don't think I'm offending anyone by saying they're the best baristas in Normal. All the same, this is not my favorite coffee shop in Normal. Is it the price? The music selection? I can't say. Just never loved this spot. Legitimately though, if you really want a silly floret drawn on your latte, go here. I spend just about every Saturday morning I can here at Coffee Hound. The coffee is perfect for waking up on a weekend. What makes Coffee Hound stand out to me is the atmosphere. It can get quite busy, but this is one of the few places I have been that truly creates a coffee shop style atmosphere. I am able to get my work done while also enjoying the coffee. They've never asked me to leave even when I've been in for a while. The baristas are great and wonderful to chat with when things slow down. Overall, I highly recommend Coffee Hound if you're looking for a place to relax, unwind and enjoy some delicious coffee. read more

Stopped by on a road trip for a pick-me-up and was pleasently surprised. I had an iced coffee and my friend had a regular coffee. They let you add your own cream, sugar, or simple syrup. Really great, high quality, tasty coffee. Didn't try bakery items, but they looked good and homemade. read more

It is actually really hard for me to review this coffee establishment appropriately. I've never had anything so bad that it would make ne never go back, but I order the same Mocha Bianca each time I go in, and every single time it has tasted a little different. One time it tasted like ashes and I had a really hard time getting it down, and another time it was easily the best cup of coffee I have ever had, and another time it was just an OK cup of coffee. I think consistency is a big issue here. I do love their Raisin Bran muffin. The Raisin Bran muffin never disappoints. I've updated my review from a 3 to 4 star because I have been in there several times since and the coffee has been PERFECT each an d every time. :-) read more

If you are over the age of 24 and have children with you don't waste your time or money here. Starbucks is right around the corner. I waited at the counter with my kids while a young woman ground coffee. We were the only people at the counter until she finished grinding. As I expected to order she took the order from a kid standing behind us. As I was throughly amazed that I and my family were now invisible. I thought maybe I missed something so I waited and an order was taken from another young man. So left and went to Starbucks. Don't forget that local people also work at chain establishments too. Finding this place was a pleasant surprise after a disappointing experience at another coffee shop in town the night before. They're everything you want in a quality coffee shop, the staff in knowledgable and the coffee is superb. I started off with a mocha, because well its hard to make a bad mocha, after the first taste I knew I was in the right place. I went back for cortado to get a better taste of the espresso, which was perfectly roasted. The staff knows their product and serve it well, sure there are cheaper places in town that serve coffee they don't know anything about other than what it says on the bag. If you want quality, stop here and indulge, otherwise move on to the cheaper places. read more

I had the caffe americano. It was very good, better than decent. This place has lots if space but probably fills up with students at certain times. The workers were nice. The onlu negative would be ambiance and decor. I didn't really get what kind of tone they wanted with the odd art, retro seats, printed menu, anf music. read more
