I did not have a good experience here with my pet. She was very sick and after doing tests and exams and tests, it all came back inconclusive. I know that can happen, but through the entire visit I didn't feel right about the place. I was EXTREMELY thankful that I called in the morning and they were able to get me in that day (because lets be honest, I thought she was quickly dying). They didn't get back to me like they were supposed to about her, and I had to keep calling them again and again. It certainly was a run-down place, which is no big deal, but the tech staff seemed absolutely clueless and I just didn't trust it. I never went back - there are too many places in Grand Rapids that I can go to instead of not trusting my vet. read more

I will never take my pet here again. They gave the veterinary records of my cat to my ex-wife. With that information she tried to sue me over the ownership of my cat. I spent 3 1/2 vacation days in the courthouse only to prove my cat was in fact my cat. Completely and totally unethical behavior. I recently moved from Illinois to Michigan. So far so good, but couldn't find a vet within 25 miles who was accepting new patients, even when my kitten had a golf ball lump on his neck. I've been stuck driving my animals back to IL for regular visits and medical exams. That's all fine, till I had a terrifying emergency. My cat got out of the house and sought refuge in my car engine... I didn't know this of course, and drove to get coffee. Luckily it was only 15 minutes, but my poor guy was traumatized and burned his paws and belly. Y'all, I was sobbing and shaking... I looked up the closest vet and THANK GOD it was this place. No "sorry we're not accepting new patients" bull shit, they took him back, looked him over, and sent me on my way with instructions and now 3 days later I called in with questions and concerns and they're filling pain meds for my baby as we speak. The woman on the phone was very kind and helpful. She recommended some treatments I can do at home and set aside pain medications for me to pick up later today. I can't thank these folks enough for being so kind to someone they've never even seen before and putting my baby's needs first. These are some very kind, animal loving people! read more

We have been bringing our dog, Zoey, to Coit Animal Clinic for the past couple of years and we couldn't be happier. It isn't the fanciest place but that means they don't need to overcharge you for their services or try to convince you that you need something you don't. This is an attitude toward pet care that seems rare to find. The doctor and staff are also wonderful. They are very informative and answer all of your questions. Everyone is always friendly toward the animals and they try to make them as comforted as possible. They demonstrate obvious concern for the health of your animal and are honest (with no sugar coating) if they believe your pets lifestyle needs to change. When Zoey got a little older, she started putting on a little more weight, and the doctor stressed to us the importance of taking her for regular walks. When we let him know that we do, he said make them a little longer. I can see how some people would take this as rude, but I think he is an honest, no-nonsense kind of guy and I appreciate that. read more

Dr. Mike is the best! My little buddy "Black Bart the Killer Chihuahua" was having some issues. The staff was able to slip him in between other patients and Dr.'s calm caring manner kept even this killer passive. The fees here are reasonable and the treatment top notch. First off, the whole building smelled like piss. I understand this is a small vet but really? Maintain your facilities. Second, the nurse that checked us in made it seem like we were an inconvenience to her and she did not seem happy about being there. She was rude and unpleasant and did not acknowledge my dog barely at all. Third, the doctor was a complete d***. He was extremely rude and talked to me like I was an idiot. And from the moment he walked into the room, my dog went crazy. He has NEVER done that with any previous vets. EVER, and he is four years old. My dog was so uneasy with this guy. Overall, don't waste your money. I was EXTREMELY disappointed, especially since I read all the reviews and wanted to take my dog somewhere nice. These people are unpleasant and don't seem very happy about their place of employment. When I go to a vet I expect it to be clean and maintained as well as my dog and myself treated with respect and kindness. This place is NOT the place to go for that!! read more

We had a great first visit to this clinic yesterday with our new puppy. It was her first vet visit and the staff and Dr. were very kind and made our dog feel safe and comfortable. This seems like the type of place where they just love animals and will try to save you money. Instead of paying 45 or something for a check-up, the receptionist recommended paying 30 for a Rabies vaccine which she needed, and then the Dr. basically gave her a full check up anyway. He was very helpful in giving us advice on her behavior (advice that is already making a huge difference) and clipped her nails without charging extra. He also gave us a free sample of a medication we need to give her once a month. We had a very pleasant visit, and will definitely bring our puppy back! read more

We chose this clinic on a recommendation from a friend, and I've been very happy with their service. This is a one Doctor operation with a very nice staff, efficient service, and extremely fair prices. I was shocked when they examined our cat, diagnosed his bladder infection, and prescribed 2 types of medication for only $64! I would have paid 2-3 times that at my former vet. Also, they maintain "emergency" time slots. When we called our cat had blood in his urine. They were booked up for weeks, but they were able to squeeze me at 8 am before regular office hours to take care of him quickly. Overall, a great experience. I moved here a few months ago with my senior male cat. Today he went for his first visit to Coit Animal Clinic and I couldn't be more pleased with our experience. The staff is friendly and helpful. My William is a big boy and when they saw me carrying him in, one of the nurses opened and held the door for me, and held it again for me as we were leaving! That was so thoughtful, since I've had two neck surgeries and I'm not very strong. The vet was very kind and thorough. I feel very confident in having him take care of Will and I think I will take him back soon to get a microchip implanted. read more

Dr. Phelps and the girls are great. He is a straight shooter and an advocate for the community he serves. From discounted vaccine clinics to honest advice, this place is perfect for our pets. NOTE: do not expect to find a water fountain or cappuccino bar. It is a vet office and not a mall :). I do wish he had another Dr. Phelps though. read more

I have only been going there a little over 18 months. They are very knowledgeable and explain everything well. They even bring up the information on the internet so that you can take a copy home with your to read about causes for my concerns. I have had nothing but GREAT experiences there. I'm in and out with 2 cats for their annuals with in 30 minutes and no unnecessary testing. I love my cats but I don't need a full rundown of blood work up and other unnecessary test for an annual check up. They are great to work with. read more

Dr. Mike has been our vet for all three of our dogs and our two cats since 2008. We are very pleased with his care and the friendliness of his staff. They are always so helpful and treat our precious pets as if they were their own. Their prices are fair and well worth the level of care we have received. Dr. Mike has always been extremely upfront, level headed and logical regarding treatment and outlook for the best interest of the pet. He is thorough and focused for his exams. My large animal vet takes care of maintenance items at my home for my zoo. Dr. Mike is my guy for anything out of the normal and he and his staff have always gone to great lengths to get my accident prone small monsters in when they need him. So far, I'm giving this 4 stars because I haven't ACTUALLY been yet. You see, I was NOT expecting to be needing a vet anytime soon. My students knew that my beloved cat, Chang, had passed away in December. When I came back to sub last week, one of my students brought me a kitten. I'm going to teach English in France in the fall, then moving to California with my boyfriend when I get back. So, at first, there was no way I was keeping her. Then, I was going to find her a good home. Then I was completely attached. My boyfriend and I decided she would be our first pet together. I named her Ripley, after the most amazing CT and Ripley from Alien because she will undoubtedly be a badass. I have been calling around asking about booster shots, and Nancy at Coit Animal Clinic was the most personable person I spoke with. She was very nice and informative. I didn't feel like she was rushing to finish the call like at some of the other places. I made an appointment for Ripley, and I'll be updating this soon. read more

we have been going here for 14 years, with our much loved dog cupcake. the admissions desk is staffed with friendly , intelligent people. the building does not smell like pee, contrary to popular opinion, it is clean and well maintained. dr. mike is intelligent, direct, honest, and to the point. he does sometimes come off as little gruff or arrogant, but hey, havent we all had an off day or two, cmon, no one is perfect. our dog needed life saving surgery, and dr. mike gave us a break on the cost, by not charging us for an ultrasound, saving us $55. we dont know what kinds of animal horrors and sadness this man has seen in his many years of practice. please do not say anything bad about this business unless you have been a client. thank u dr. mike for saving our cupcake. read more

I took my dog there for 5 years and wish I would have switched sooner. She only went to the vet when she was limping on her left front paw... it was always the same thing, "Nothing is wrong, take the anti-inflammatory, and go". Then after a 5 minute appointment with Phelps we paid and left with no answers. I finally left and now my dog sees the vets at Great Lakes Veterinary Hospital. My dog saw Phelps 3 times this spring for a limp within a 2 month period and neglected to find anything wrong. I took her to GLVH and they immediately noticed her wrist bones were compressed compared to the other and she had muscle atrophy around that wrist. Turns out she has some sort of polyarthritis that they began treating immediately (still waiting on tests and seeing the specialist) but Phelps failed to even consider something else was going on even with my persistence and now our dog went long enough to see the damages of a careless vet. I pay the same price where I am for appointments that last an hour and vets that care. Do yourself a favor if you care about your pet and go elsewhere, and if remember cheap care isn't always the best care. read more
