After many years of owning pets I finally came across the animal clinic over on 28th near division. And I wish I had known of them sooner. The doctors and staff are absolutely top-notch. The care they exhibit for animals is something to be admired. I've experienced a few emergencies over the years and Dr. Renshaw and Dr. Gilroy have both gone out of their way (EVEN AFTER HOURS) to help. The prices are also FAR BELOW what I was accustomed to paying at my previous vets and I've literally never been upsold on something I didn't need (which is certainly not the case at other places) Example: cat needs his teeth cleaned. $180 at the animal clinic. Same procedure at the Eastown vet: $973 Prices are one thing but the true clincher is the compassion and love that everyone at this place has for animals. If I could give negative stars, I would. My puppy was in between her first and second parvo vaccinations. Unfortunately, a few weeks before her second vaccination was scheduled, she became infected with parvo, and I brought her here. They seemed very nice at first and they said we got her in soon enough, and they were confident she would be fine. I visited her everyday for the first 4 days, and she was losing a LOT of weight and could barely lift her head up, she was getting worse. On the 5th day they would not let me see her. After a week of her being there, I told them I'm going to see her one way or another, and after walking past people telling me I couldn't go back there it looked like she had lost half of her weight. She was laying in her own vomit, urine, and diarrhea. I later found out they were giving her anti-biotics that cause severe nausea. I then saw blood coming from her tail underneath a green bandage they put on, and they said it was just a rash from the diarrhea. They had no explanation for part of her ear being bit off. I ordered them to take her IVs out and took her out of there immediately. I received a recommendation from a friend to bring her to Jenison Animal Hospital to see Dr. Holt, and he saved her life. It is VERY OBVIOUS a dog attacked her after the 4th day when they said I could no longer see her until she was out of Renshaw's care (I refuse to label him as a Dr.). I KNOW they were just going to let her die and blame it on the parvo in order to not be liable for the dog bites and sepsis which came from them not changing her bandage while laying in her own waste. The pictures below are pictures of her "rash" being cleaned by Dr. Holt and his amazing nurses. He said had I not taken her out of there she would have been dead within 24-48hrs. Dr. Holt carefully took off the bandage that had MANY layers of VERY TIGHTLY wound gauze, and cleaned the bite on her tail that had turned into gangrene. When the bandage opened and air hit the wound, I almost vomited from the smell, and it sounded like my pup was SCREAMING like a human. He put a light bandage on it, gave us the CORRECT meds for parvo as well as meds for the sepsis Animal Clinic Inc. caused, and told me her tail will eventually fall off. After it fell off and another week of feeding her nothing but high quality chicken/steak/beef liver, her blood levels were finally up to par for her to survive anesthesia, and Dr. Holt was then able to amputate her tail. For weeks she was in intense pain and had to sleep on her back. Renshaw will never admit to any wrongdoing, and Dr. Holt saved her life from Renshaw's malfeasance. Renshaw's bill was 3x the amount of Dr. Holt's, even though HER ONLY SYMPTOM was diarrhea before we brought her to Renshaw. Thank God for Dr. Holt, he saved her life from the neglect of this "Animal Clinic." read more

Reason why I gave them one star is not for their services or anything that they have to do with the pets. It's all got to do with that outside blaring alarm. My parents are 90 years old and I've talked to these people couple times now about their alarm and they do not care. They say that they have the alarm so that people won't Park in there facility. Put up some gates, steel Gates so that no car can come through. But they don't want to do it so I give you one star for that and if I could I would give you zero Stars. We followed Dr. Ryan Keane here from another clinic and are so glad that we did. He has treated our cats for several years and always has a kind and professional demeanor. At this particular clinic, the staff is friendly and helpful. They arranged to obtain our records from another site. They let us know if the providers are running even a few minutes behind, and are helpful with answering questions. For our particular case, we found the costs at this clinic more reasonable than at other larger clinics that have a higher overhead. Used to take my cat and several exotic birds here, when Dr Bennett was there and it was top notch, animal centered. It's not anymore. You can't get past the receptionist, and they refuse emergency care to pets they haven't previously seen. They don't even have the good sense to refer in an emergency. It just sucks to be you. I have taken three cats here. I started because of the late hours. Every other place closed just as I was getting out of work and at the time I had an old man with some health issues. They helped me care for him and at the right time helped me end his suffering. At the time I also had an old lady cat who got suddenly sick and they squeezed me in right away even though they were full. At 17 and a half years old she was in too much pain. They were so compassionate and loving as I said goodbye. In the midst of this I got an adorable kitten maya and they have been taking amazing care of her. After spending 3 days at this clinic getting correct medication for my cat, they sent me home with an unmixed prescription. 45 minutes of driving each way and they were the rudest staff I'd ever had the misfortune of working with. Don't take your fur babies here, all they care about if business and money. They're prices are so cheap because the medical staff can't actually accurately diagnose what's wrong. read more

I've been going to Animal Clinic for 24 years. They used to be great, but they are very different now. All new vets from when I started there. At my last visit (wellness check and vaccines), I was told that my dog was not welcome back there unless he had some training with an animal behaviorist. I was heart-broken. My dog is not bad, he just has anxiety about his front paws being touched. The vet and vet tech never smiled, or talked to my dog to make him feel comfortable. Then they took him into the back and he was scared. They were not nice or friendly to him. They put a muzzle on him, but still were unable to trim his nails. I've never had an experience like this before. And we've had a rottweiler, Pitbull, shepherds in the past. I believe a vet's office needs to be able to handle dogs or they shouldn't be in business. I will never go back there. I have another dog now too and will find a better vet. If you are looking for a new vet, I would skip this one. I don't say this lightly, but that's how I feel. So last week spent close to 100 dollars on tests.... some for a cyst.... was told surgical removal was suggested ..... at a estimated 450 dollars. Went in person to get my medical records for my pet..... And was told at the desk " NO ". was asked many questions as to why . really.... there are my pets records. Don"t own them any money.... Seems they are being very difficult for no reason. ... I find this unacceptable ..... should have been greeted with respect..... and given the records no matter what reason...... Will not be using this place again no matter how they respond to the review if they do.. Need to retrain employees in customer service. relationship with customers.... and document records.... state and federal records regulations. very upset..... total nonsense....... Was it because i said I was seeking a second opinion ?? Or to shop around to get quote's for surgical procedures ?? All three veterinarians have great bedside manner. Which is something often lacking in veterinarian care. They also are extremely considerate of the expense to the owners. We love the animal clinic for our two rescue pups. read more

The first time I took one of my cats here was mostly because it was near my apartment. No matter where I have lived in Grand Rapids I have and will continue to take my pets there. The current vets, Dr. Renshaw and Dr. Gilroy are both MSU grads of the vet school. Even if you're a Michigan fan you have to admit MSU trained vets are the best. Today (1/23/16) I called with what I thought of a semi emergency. Dr. Renshaw worked me in even though they were only open until 2 this afternoon. I will forever be grateful for the care and compassion everyone shows. I knew I was at the right place the very first time when I saw a plaque on the wall with a GRPD K-9 unit photo thanking them for the service they provide. read more
