Tyler is an amazing hair stylist, colorist and human being! I've never felt more comfortable in a salon chair. I just happened to search the "Coldspring" location on Instagram while I was house/pet sitting and looking for interesting things to do/see. I found some posts of beautiful hair colors she did on her page. I made an appointment for the next day. I don't live in Coldspring, I live in the Bronx and work in Manhattan. I've been to numerous Manhattan salons over the years, but have never found a stylist I felt comfortable going back to. I highly recommend Tyler. I also now use the shampoo from them, which is great and all-natural. Normally I would be intimidated by this kind of high end atmosphere, but everyone is so kind and friendly and down to earth. I will keep coming back as long as Tyler is working here. I enjoy her company and her talent! read more

Charming apothecary I have been looking at for a while... massage therapist Catherine was amazing she definitely is far more than a massage therapist she has healing hands! It was energy work with a massage! Very gifted & as a medical aesthetician I very much appreciated my time with her! Facial for me to receive it not an easy task, but I enjoyed it very much with Jamie. Clean products made in small batches the owner really has it down! I was introduced to the products through a friend who is a local of Cold Spring. The quality of the product is outstanding. The Sea Salt spray for my hair has done wonders. Not only does it smell amazing, but it leaves just the perfect amount of wave without having to use heat and excessive product. I swear by the moisturizers and facial washes and love their masks. The products are effective and gentle enough and free of chemicals that I also use a lot of them on my toddler as well. The atmosphere of the store and their employees ( especially Natalie, the store manager) is amazing and always a pleasant experience. I stopped in here last week to get a face mask for my sister and ended up getting one for myself too. I'm constantly searching for all natural products for my oily/breakout prone skin and their products are the first I've been happy with. The girl that helped me knew exactly what to recommend for both me and my sister. I bought a powder that's both a mask and an exfoliant and I LOVE it, very soothing and gets rid of dead skin at the same time. She gave me a sample of their clarity oil and I had to go back and get a bottle of it. It seemed counterintuitive to use an oil on already oily skin but since I've been using it my skin feels great and not oily at all. They gave me a sample of a facial cleanser today that I have yet to try. They also have great candles and other things for around the house. The one person that left a bad review has never reviewed anything else and says she was treated like a shoplifter, which is definitely on her because there's been a different girl working every time I've gone in and they've been nothing but knowledgable and super nice. read more

The most expensive, and WORST, haircut I've ever had. I walked out of there with damp hair, looking like washed up old spinster, and my hair smelled like some witches brew of incense, patchouli, kombucha and cow dung. I immediately went home and washed it out just so I could breathe. I also didn't like having my hair done in a fishbowl where every person walking by peers in the window at you in the process of beautification, or uglification as I experienced. Sun was streaming in the windows makes the whole place feel like an oven. No wonder my hair wouldn't dry. I threw out their homemade shampoo ($30, mind you, for 7 ounces) after one use. Too much perfume, wouldn't lather properly or rinse out without leaving gumminess my hair feeling gummy and limp. read more

Asked if they could sell us a bag of coffee, and he informed us the register was also closed. The apothecary was to die for, fresh, cute and bright. However, they were closed the day we were there so we couldn't buy anything, as only the coffee side was open. I'm writing this review for anyone in the Hudson Valley who wants an exceptional haircut. Eileen is a magical genius who cut hair for years in Brooklyn before moving upstate. She's found a good home at Cold Spring Apothecary. Eileen listens well and makes sure every client gets what they want, no matter their age, style, or hair texture. She can transform both curly and straight hair, does beautiful color, and inspires extreme loyalty in her clients. I followed her around Brooklyn and then up to Cold Spring for a wide range of haircuts (pixie, bob, shag, long layers, etc). I moved to the west coast a couple of years ago and miss having an artist for a hairdresser. Go see her! read more

Lovely products at good prices. I discovered CSA through Madewell which carried their candles, which are my favorite product. I stopped by the brick-and-mortar store while on a trip upstate and found the space bright, clean, and well stocked. On site, they have spa and hair styling services and a small coffee/tea bar (sort of like a shared space & unrelated to CSA, was told the two sides of the store even have different hours). I stocked up on candles, including some of their limited seasonal ones and they all smelled wonderful--not that cloying, fake chemical scent you get with other candle brands. All of the candles I've gotten from CSA burn clean, evenly and have enough throw to scent a room and the price is significantly less than other high-end candle companies, ($15-40). Lavender White Tea is my favorite, but Amber Fig, the seasonal Pine, and Black Pepper Tobacco are beautiful, too. They also carry blends of tea and herbs. I picked up their Black Tea blend and it seems like a dead ringer for one of my favorite Mariage Freres blends! Really delicious. Just a tip: Driving in Cold Spring on the weekends is pretty atrocious; the streets are clogged with day hikers from the tri-state area and they often walk in between moving cars and in the street. Main street is closed on the weekends, there's very little parking on residential side streets. Suggest the municipal parking where you get a few hours for $1. read more

I was a little nervous going into CSA for a haircut because it was my first time trying them out (and it would be an expensive mistake if the results weren't what I hoped for). Brit completely understood my hair type (thick, naturally wavy) and my attitude towards maintenance (no styling except a few spritzes of sea salt spray and some curl cream to coax out more bounce). I wanted a 60s straight-bang cut that would work with my wild waves, and she gave me exactly what I pictured! Not for a moment did I feel nervous about her snipping! (Plus, the massage during the shampoo does wonders for any pre-cut jitters.) I was 100% satisfied afterwards and felt the cost to be well worth it. They offer $15 fringe touch-ups so I don't feel like I've got to struggle in the bathroom mirror to maintain my mod bangs. CSA makes their products on-site from all-natural ingredients, so you don't have to worry about mystery chemicals, and they smell absolutely divine! I usually hate the smell of my hair post-salon, but their sea salt spray left me with a beautiful ginger-citrus scent. The atmosphere is relaxed and bright. The building itself is one of the most beautiful in Cold Spring. I'd definitely return to try out other Wellness House services. Highly, highly recommend CSA and Brit! Couldn't help but scoop up a scrumptious peony-rosemary candle and the sea salt spray as well. read more

I came across Cold Spring Apothecary like a lot of individuals who wind up in Cold Spring on a sunny Saturday--sweaty, dirty and tired after hiking Breakneck Ridge nearby. I was delighted by the space and refreshing atmosphere as well as the friendly and helpful staff. While I didn't pick anything up my first time stopping in, once I returned to Cold Spring (with less hiking gear in hand) I purchased a few of their products, specifically a couple of their facial oils. I've fallen in love with their Renew Oil as well as their Calm Oil. The Renew Oil has done wonders for my skin this winter, and helps keep it moisturized on even the harshest of days. It absorbs quickly and smells great. I've started using the Calm Oil in the morning, and Renew at night, along with a little bit of their rosehip eye creme. My skin looks nourished and dewy, despite the terrible weather! I've now tried some of their other products, and have loved everything so far. Highly recommend! read more

So many of these types of shops sell things like this, and they may smell nice, but they have no effect. This stuff is amazing, cheaper than a prescription, less dangerous, more effective and the fragrance, ooo. My friend bought the face powder, not a make-up but a wellness remedy. Went here for a massage my wife had given me as a gift for my birthday. She gave me a gift certificate, which I used to pay for my massage. The deep tissue massage I received, from a woman named Laura I believe, was great! Later, when I paid with the gift certificate, the woman asked me for additional money to pay for the tax, which I found strange-wouldn't that be included in the price of the massage, or at least conveyed to my wife when she purchased this certificate(which it wasn't)? So I paid the tax, and tipped the masseuse separately. When I called them later the next week, they responded that while the tax is indeed separate from the cost of the massage, she couldn't say why no one offered to tell my wife that tax was not included in the gift certificate. When I asked the woman why someone would buy a gift certificate for someone to use and then expect them to pay tax on it, she said something about people sometimes use the certificate as a credit, and don't use it for the service it was originally bought for-a response that befuddled me. Anyway, while I am sure this business provides wonderful products, I think the manner that they handle gift certificates for services is F**KED up. read more

Passing thru the area I decided to stop at the Cold Springs Apothecary because I had heard great things about it. The store is super cute and the products looked great but the customer service was TERRIBLE. First, no one greeted when I walked inside the empty store. The blonde haired women behind the counter didn't offer to help me when I asked her if I can try out some products. She just told me to use the sink behind me. As I was shopping around she insisted on asking me if I was ready to check out when I was still looking around the store. Later when she was ringing me up she just roughly dropped the products I was going to purchase in a brown bag without wrapping them in the tissue next to the register. I asked her if she could wrap the products in tissue paper and she told me she was going to charge me extra for tissue paper! I thought this was strange so asked her for the total charge and she rudely told me to look at the card reader. At this point I was very annoyed and frankly didn't want to purchase anything from this women or the store so I left. Not even in the city do I experience such terrible service. I will never come back again. You've been warned! read more

The shop is really nice and the products they use are very good too. However, the massage was very disappointing. The masseuse asked us if we liked the massage to be a bit stronger or rather soft. While I went for the normal, soft option, the massage was too soft and easy and nothing really professional. My friend asked the masseuse during the massage to increase the pressure a little. It was a good massage, but in the end surprisingly she was charged for a different type and more expensive massage. read more
