When I checked out of the hotel, I noticed I left my bathing suit in the room. I had an engagement to attend for a few hours. Soon after my engagement, I went back to the hotel the same day, (literally 2 1/2hrs), to see if I could retrieve it. When I arrived, I was told that I needed to fill out a "Lost & Found" report and that it would take 48hrs before receiving a response. I gave them more than enough time before I called them back (3 days later). When I called them back, I was told that it would take 72 hours before getting a response. Well, it happened to be the 72nd hour when I called and they still could not locate my bathing suit. I was then told that I would be getting email updates. As the days went by, each update would give me "formality" emails. "We know how much you want your lost item returned, and we are doing our best to find it! We appreciate your patience while we conduct our search. Should we find an item matching your item's description, we will send you an email and/or a text if you have opted in, with a link to our return options page so that you may be reunited with your item. If we are unable to find any items that match the description of your reported lost item within 7 days of your report, we will send you an email advising you that our search was unsuccessful, and your report will be closed. Providing detailed information about your item(s) is the best way to help us with our search." I gave them a detailed description, plus photos...they were still not able to locate it. As of today, 9/16/26, there has been no indication of them even locating my bathing suit. When I called, I asked them what their process was for the "Lost & Found", and the so-called "Supervisor", proceeded to tell me that once an item is found in the room, it gets put into their log book. I call "BS". I proceeded to tell the "Supervisor" that I don't feel their process is effective and that basically they are operating under the "five finger discount" and are not truthful with their findings. I know it's a simple bathing suit but, to me, it's the principle of the matter. If you are charging high prices for consumers to come and stay at your hotel, you should provide A+ service, all the way down to leaving a simple item in your room. So, I encourage everyone to read the reviews before thinking about booking a stay here. I don't typically write bad reviews or even want to write bad reviews but, I felt this was warranted. The staff was not energetic, smiling, or enthusiastic with the exception of the activities manager who led the water melon eating contest. - it rained for one of the afternoons so we all went into the conference center for games. Wow was that disappointing. The staff was sitting around at a table, no music, no explanation of the table games, not interacting with the guests. When asked they said "you can play whichever game you want, it's self service." My husband and I used our phones to at least put on music, we facilitated a game of tag, and several families had to escalate to the manager to setup the karaoke and popcorn machine because the staff in the room was literally sitting around sticking to a rigid schedule and telling us they can't set anything up until a certain time. Of course the manager said that is absolutely not true. - the staff didn't know how to work the projector for karaoke so the kids just used a laptop that the staff member had sitting on her lap. Minimal interaction etc. The events team staff (minus the supervisor) was really subpar. Easily made for a 2 rating for sure. Plus the location is close to the Cynthia Woods Pavilion so it allowed us to hear the Dave Matthews Band concert performance which took place on the 8th. Nothing like hearing the soulful sounds of the violins and horns from that band. The hotel has some nice amenities including a hot tub and pool located on the 2nd floor (both are outdoors). There's several lounge chairs where you can hang out while you get your tan on by the pool. There's also a hotel kitchen/bar area serving up nice cocktails and theres' the breakfast area which is complimentary for Globalist members which we took advantage of. I loved their brisket eggs benedict; definitely recommend ordering. Now back to our suite, there was also a lounge couch giving us more room to spread out. They also gave us complimentary chocolates and a hand-written note welcoming us while mentioning our anniversary. I really liked that personal touch as it made us feel valued. The bed is comfortable and we slept quite nicely. There is a mural above the bed of some woman with a hat covering her eyes; it kind of freaked us out at first but we grew to appreciate the artistic touch. Parking is behind the hotel where you can do valet or self-parking. It's also within walking distance for all the shops/outlets so there's plenty to do staying here. Stayed at this Hilton Garden Inn location during Thanksgiving week and weekend. The location is…read moregreat, it is right across the street from shopping centers and the mall, and right next-door to a high-end outdoor shopping center. The location was easy to get to and was no more than 20 minutes from most of the places we had to visit over the week. First of all, they get five stars for accommodating us on short notice and for their customer service. In terms of the hotel, they could do some work with the plumbing. During our stay, the water would go in and out, and sometimes it would be piping hot and other times freezing cold. We stayed in room 405. Our room was great, except for the air conditioning did not work in the bedroom... It was fine everywhere else in the room. I was happy that there was a sofa bed in the room as we had an unexpected guest join us... And we were glad to be able to accommodate. However, the sofa bed mattress needs to be changed. It is so bad that if you merely sit on it, you can feel not only the springs of the mattress, but the metal bars of the sofa bed as well and that is not good when you need to get a good night's rest. Overall, the staff was very friendly. Their breakfast ends by 10 AM and if you're down there by 9:50 AM, they will be putting away the food and cleaning up around you, which I thought was a little bit strange. I figured because it was Thanksgiving week and nobody wanted to be there working that's the way it had to be. The hotel also charges $16 per night to park there. However, if you are there for five nights or more, the parking is free. If you need to park there, make sure that you get your parking permit from the front desk or your car will be towed. Other than the items I mentioned, it is a nice hotel, and it is very clean, and the housekeeping people were very accommodating and friendly. Enjoy!

TL;DR - Functional, yet dated Hilton property located in The Woodlands neighborhood in suburban…read moreHouston. Full disclosure that I'm a Marriot Loyalty member with a higher tier status, and I stay almost exclusively at Marriot properties for either business or personal travel. So inevitably when I book with a competitor's hotel, I will bring my inherent biases. I was a late minute addition to the team during a week-long project in the Greenspoint neighborhood of Houston. All of the nearby hotels were not within per diem, so the travel admin within the finance department booked me at the Hilton Garden Inn in the toney neighborhood of the The Woodlands. For those in the DC area, the Woodlands would be equivalent to Reston, VA or Rockville, MD. I almost (but not quite) begged the travel folks to allow me to pay the difference to stay next door at the Marriot Residence Inn - which is literally a 3-minute walk - but because of the travel regulations, I was not able to do so. First impressions from walking into the lobby, is the property is straight out of the late 90's-early 2000s. There is a small market area where you can buy convenience food items, a (sad looking) bar area to the right, which also doubles as the morning buffet area, and some tables/chairs which serves as the dining area. Check-in was simple enough, and I was assigned a room on a higher floor, which I usually request. The overall dated appearance of this property is evident in the elevators. The faux brass metal has been "polished" with cleaner over so many years that the finish has been stripped off the point where it appears dingy and streaked. I can see why so many newer hotels just stick with a metallic steel finish, to avoid the faded brass look. The room was fine; nothing exceptional, but fine. There is a small fridge which I stored fruit, 1/2 & 1/2, and other snacks purchased from the nearby H-E-B (https://www.yelp.com/biz/h-e-b-the-woodlands-4?hrid=3AE0b3y43vdAf9ilSZOvZg), and a microwave which I used to heat up some leftovers for breakfast, since I WAS NOT going to pay $17.99 for hotel breakfast in the mornings. The Keurig was a nice touch, since I do enjoy an evening coffee when I have to respond to emails. So here are some of the complaints I had with the room: * Toilet tank did not completely refill, which resulted it in "running" intermittently. This is a common problem, which even in my residence I have to remedy by replacing the flapper piece in the tank, but there was no rhyme or reason as to when I would hear the tank filling. Sometimes it would happen every 10-15 minutes; other times, it would only happen once an hour. All I know is, it happened enough to wake me from sleep a few nights. * Musty smell. During the pandemic, many hotels switched from daily room service to cleaning a room based upon the number of days of your stay. There was a sticker on the bathroom mirror indicating that the room would only be a "full cleaning" every fifth day. This is not a big deal, since I try and keep my hotel room clean anyway, but with a property this old, lots of dust, odors, and just dirt have been trapped and ground into the carpets over the years - and this carpet looks OLD. I tried turning up the A/C to get some additional air circulation, which somewhat helped. I used the fitness center a few times and it was okay. There were a few treadmills, free weights, and (surprise) a Peloton bike. Many of the TV units on the treadmills were not functional, so I resorted to listening to podcasts on my phone. Wi-Fi was plenty fast enough to connect via VPN to my corporate intranet. There is also free coffee in the mornings, which was handy for me to grab a cup as I made the 30 minute trip to my job site. I dunno. I guess if you're a Hilton Honors member, I guess this property is okay. One of the reasons I opted to join the Marriot Bonvoy program years ago is that they have clear differentiation between their brands, and I don't understand where the Garden Inn property slots into Hilton's portfolio. Is it aimed towards business travelers? And if so, why isn't breakfast included...which I think is not only a nice, but almost necessary perk which business travelers are willing to pay for. All in all, this place is alright and it's in a nice area with lots of dining and shopping options. But if you can spend a bit extra for a nicer hotel, I'd recommend doing so.
