We recently sold our home in Delaware and I couldn't have been happier with the help and guidance I received from my realtor, Lori Milton. She offered us sound advice and direction, but the thing that made me appreciate her so deeply ( and this is what made me choose her as my realtor) was this: She saw my house through my eyes. Ours was not an easy property to appreciate. It was an antique, built in 1895, and and we had only lived in it sporadically since 2009. An old house needing care, lots of it just to maintain it, in our youth my husband and I had happily done that to enjoy its spacious rooms, its three floors, the acre of yard. We raised our children there and half the neighborhood kids as well. They could make those old walls shimmer with laughter and generally joyful whooping. It was our family home where we had laughed with and at each other, eaten countless meals and celebrated holidays and at least 100 birthdays around its big table, held each other and cried through our tragedies; it was our safe space. Lori got that. She could see its unique value; to her it was more vintage than old; she told me often how special a property it was. After living in it for 36 years, I needed to hear that. I felt like I was leaving an elderly grandmother who complained often and needed support but was always there to shelter and protect. Ultimately the buyer who came to us had been a child my husband and I had nearly helped raise, our daughter's best buddy and playmate, now a young father with kids of his own. He and his family need all that our home has to give and in turn I'm sure they will rock those old walls with their own good noise. My husband and I have settled in the warmer climate of Georgia, and Lori made it so convenient that we didn't even have to attend the closing. She took care of it all. I used this agency to book a Lewes beach vacation- Port Lewes 67. On the second night, I noticed mouse feces in front of the fridge. When I started looking more carefully it was everywhere, in the cupboards around the pots and pans, in the utensils drawer and in the stove. Even worse, I found a mouse bait station behind the fridge leading me to believe that the owner or Coldwell Banker knew about the infestation and still rented this unit to my family. When I called the agency, I was told that this issue was not an emergency and that someone would follow up with me tomorrow. The next day a cleaning person came out and vacuumed up some of the mouse feces. The utensils drawer and pots and pans seemed to be in the same condition as prior. I noted that the cleaning person vacuumed the excrement instead of disinfecting and manually removing it thus aerosolizing the feces and increasing the risk of rodent borne disease transmission. We decided that for our health and safety it was best to leave the unit. Coldwell Banker never assisted us in finding an alternate rental. For the stress and level of filth we had to endure, they really should have given us a full refund or at least an amount proportional to the duration we stayed but instead we got less than half of the the $4200 that we paid them and then had to pay a lot to secure a last minute rental for the remaining days in our trip. Even worse, the Coldwell Banker agent made comments stating that no one else ever complained about rodents in an attempt to make us feel like we were making it up despite the numerous pictures we sent them. We thought that spending $4200 on what appeared to be a luxury rental and personalized service from a well known real estate agency would guarantee us a high quality vacation and great customer service. Instead we got a company that was happy to take our money in exchange for rodent infested lodging and when discovered tried their best to maximize what money they could keep rather than focusing on keeping my family safe and accommodating us for this very serious error. The perfect place at a perfect location. This place is exceptionally neat, clean and modern. Perfect for our extended family. The location couldn't be better. The beach is half a block's walk from the front door and Cape Henlopen State Park is not much farther that that! The Cape May/Lewes Ferry is practically next door and the downtown area is a quick car trip away. Plus, the folks at Coldwell Banker couldn't have been more of a help along the way! read more
