This office is a great option if you are not wanting to bill insurance. Practitioner knowledge and results from my assessment continue to be positive. While I continue to have decent results from the assessment and recommendation of Dr Valenzuela, it was the office experience related to billing that garnered this not so fab review. I was a cash patient recommended to her office by another practitioner. I needed the superbill with the Dx codes on it to submit to my insurance company for reimbursement as this office doesn't work directly with insurance. I have asked for this code on the receipt from my last visit three times now since mid December and received no reply. At one point, I was told by Dr Emily that if I book my appts, the DX code isn't on the superbill, but if she books it, it is. Why is their a "book online" option on their website if she wants to book the appts? Furthermore, I paid her over $400 and am only asking for a Dx code for the last visit. It takes less than 5 minutes to add this to the superbill! Her last reply to me is and I quote. "We are a cash base business, because what we do in our clinic is generally not covered by insurance. So sorry we couldn't be of more help. The best thing I can do in the future is recommend getting an HSA insurance plan. You put money into an account that you can use for services such as mine or your chiropractor and then your insurance premiums are lower. Good luck" The HSA is a great suggestion but not attainable for me at this time. I did end up getting partial reimbursement for the initial visit from my insurance, and I know others who have these services covered by their insurance, they just have to bill and need the Dx code! Not a big ask when you are charging $225 for the initial visit and $90 for follow ups! Sheesh! I have since found another practitioner who does what this office does and does bill insurance and is super easy to work with. As sad as it is for me to give this review, the lack of response from Dr Emily speaks for itself.

However I had never really honed in on my thyroid health and fertility and wanted to prior to conceiving as I was anxious that it would be impossible to get pregnant due to my diagnosis, or would take longer than most. I also knew that if I was to become pregnant, my risk of miscarriage was much higher. Therefore both my husband and I started to see Emily regularly about 8 months prior to when we wanted to start trying. She took me through the CellCore supplement program where I detoxed from heavy metals, parasites, viruses (all big triggers for autoimmune disease) and more, and additionally worked on my thryoid and adrenals with acupuncture. Within a few months I started to feel huge changes, my skin cleared up, my hair stopped falling out, my brain fog had dissipated and I felt so good and really prepared to try for a baby. The first time we "tried" and weren't even really trying we got pregnant. I honestly was in shock and beyond excited. My 19 year old daughter is an endurance athlete/runner who is healthy and who never really had any…read morehealth issues until about a year ago. During her sophomore of college, she began to feel extremely tired, her heart rate started fluctuating like crazy, she started gaining weight and her running performance began to decline rapidly. Within a few months, she fractured her femur on a run and she started getting to the point where she could sleep for 10 hours at night and need a 2-3 hour nap during the day. For 8 months, we went to numerous doctors/cardiologists/chiropractors/orthopedics trying to get a diagnosis or just trying to get any of them to understand that something was off and each one kept telling us there was nothing wrong or they would suggest she was suffering from depression. Our physical therapist suggested that we go see Dr. Zimmerman and we decided to proceed knowing that our visits and many of the tests required would not be covered by our insurance. Talking to Dr. Zimmerman on our first appointment was a breath of fresh air! Instantly, my daughter and I knew that we were in good hands and that someone believed us we knew that Dr. Zimmerman was going to get to the bottom of everything. She is so kind and caring and thorough. We have only been seeing Dr. Zimmerman for about 3 weeks and we have so many answers already! She ordered detailed lab work and many of our answers came from the first round of testing from the lab. It turns out that she has some auto immune/throid issues. While we have a few more tests to go, we already ordered natural supplements to help my daughter and we are looking into dietary changes that should help as well. I think what is frustrating to me is that no other doctor wanted to get to the root of the problems. They just wanted to prescribe medicine and put a bandaid on the issues. Dr. Zimmerman is amazing! We are so happy that we found her and we are looking forward to our daughter feeling healthy again!

She told me I needed to leave my home because of the mold. Money was an issue with me at the time, obviously, and I was in absolute tears. Her only response was to quickly try to schedule AND CHARGE $$$$$ me for another appointment to discuss how we would deal the mold issue. No compassion at all for the situation I was in. About a month later, she sent out a letter to her patients saying she was "retiring". An ethical doctor would probably stop taking new patients if they were getting ready to retire. Why would you take on new patients if you knew you would not see them through the process of getting better? Then a couple months later she sent another email to her patients saying she wasn't going to retire, but was joining another practice. Something is just not right here. I am now seeing a functional medicine doctor in Montana that is wonderful and not money driven. A PIECE OF ADVICE FOR EVERYONE, YOU DON'T NEED TO SEE A FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE DOCTOR BASED IN OC. YOU CAN SEE MOST FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE DOCTORS VIRTUALLY AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND FINDING A DOCTOR OUTSIDE OF OC. The worst part is I just received a lab bill for $2500 that I never authorized almost one year after I stopped seeing her. I called her to try and help me rectify the bill and her new receptionist told me it was my problem. JUST TO CLARIFY READING HER RESPONSE. THESE ARE THE TESTS SHE RECOMMENDED AND ORDERED. NO TEST SHOULD HAVE BEEN OVER $500. SHE SENT ME TO THESE LABS. BE VERY CAREFUL OF HER "3RD PARTY CHARGES".
