But I enjoy the temporary exhibitions they install. I've been going to the SAM for more than 20 years. I can't afford to be a member or pay the regular admission, so I'm excited to go on Free First Thursdays. It's such a wonderful opportunity and program to those who can't afford to view art, but appreciate it.

Some uphill walks but it was a nice walk actually. The museum is free which is nice you walk through and it is pretty much filled with many unique rooms, each with different pieces of art. It was pretty quiet but I do enjoy the placement of every piece. It's not a big museum so this probably won't take up so much time.

This was it, I was not really looking forward to it and thought of it as a time filler. Was I ever wrong. I kind of fell in love with this place as I toured around. The beauty of this place really shines through. In the end, I was extremely happy that I got to view this space. This consists of the garden, glasshouse and exhibits. Each a beauty unto itself. Entering here you first go through the exhibit area. Take your time in this area, there are so many exquisite glass pieces to see. This is where you will see a lot of Dale Chihuly's pieces. Born in Tacoma makes the local connection even greater. Being in the shadow of the Space Needle lends for some amazing viewing and photos. It can feel rather crowded in here at some points. This is the only downfall in here. People are everywhere and will try to push you out of the way to see a piece. Not because they want to see the piece, but they are trying to create content. There were too many influencers in here. Each one with the same, narrowminded, self absorbed mission. To make content that they feel people online will clammer to view. There was this one that just rushed between exhibits. Not to view them, but to take a glamour shot in front of it and get the right angle to use at a later date with information fished from the internet to fill in the gaps they missed with their own two eyes. The only downside to this place, and does not detract from the stars here. If you can find your way around them, you can still enjoy the place and take it in for that moment.

There's one where it's like a dj booth with headphones. There's a place where people were in rooms learning how to play the guitar, piano & drums. There's a cool MJ section and more. We had fun. It wasn't all about music either, it was movies, shows games etc...

This museum is just OK. Its aesthetic design is pretty nifty and it checks a lot of pop culture…read moreboxes (music, video games, multiple movie genres). On the other hand, it felt like most of the material is either pictures & basic bios of famous people, or physical props. Is it really that stimulating to see a replica of a proton pack, a Dalek, or a Starfleet uniform behind enclosed glass? The section with the highest potential was the music lab, but the interactivity seemed pretty limited. On top of that, I caught a few factual errors, like misspelled names ("Paul Ruebens"), or bloopers in their historical video reels (both 1987 and 1990 contained clips of The Simpsons, which are both wrong -- it debuted in 1989 as a standalone show). Somewhere on the floor there's a poorly conceived gallery of video game controllers, which inexplicably features some generic third-party controllers that don't count, while controllers from many important game consoles are missing entirely. These are all sloppy errors for a museum to make. All in all, I'd say this place offers maybe $15 worth of fun, but not the $35 they currently charge.

Visited the Seattle Asian Art Museum to check out the powerful exhibition featuring the Kondō…read moreceramic lineage! ​The mesmerizing pieces in these photos and videos are by Kondō Takahiro, a third-generation master artist from a prestigious Kyoto ceramic family (grandson of Living National Treasure Yūzō Kondō). ​His signature technique, "Gintekisai" (Silver Mist Glaze), combines glass, silver, and gold to create these incredible, glistening droplets that look like real water beads frozen on porcelain. ​Reflecting on themes of human existence, nature, and rebirth following the 3.11 earthquake, these meditative ceramic sculptures and video installations were truly powerful and breathtaking to experience in person.

Be serious be sexy be whatever you want. Lucky for us it wasn't too busy. There's a few couples here and there there's a first floor and a second floor so you don't feel like you're encroaching on each other. One complaint is some of the camera holders were broken or loose, but because it wasn't too busy you were able to pull from other stations. Props were lots of fun. Some backgrounds made more sense than others but either way it's a great idea. Have fun with it!

I visited the Henry Art Gallery with a friend last month as part of her birthday celebration and it…read morewas a great experience. We had lunch at Ba Bar at U-Village then came to the gallery to walk off our lunch and take in a lot of interesting, diverse art. The gallery now offers FREE admission to everyone (thanks in part to 4Culture), whereas before it was only free to UW students, faculty, and staff. What I like about the Henry is the curation. They always have intriguing and interesting exhibits that are grouped well and have just enough art pieces for you to see and take in without getting overwhelmed. The space is clean, well lit, and pretty minimalist. Also like that they have a cute little cafe, City Grind, with both indoor and outdoor seating. On this visit, we were impressed by the exhibit by Diné artist Eric-Paul Riege (b. 1994, New Mexico). Riege's tactile sculptures of jewelry and other objects were HUGE and a cool sight to behold. A sign said that some sculptures could be touched gently which I fully took advantage of because these giant soft sculptures just called out to be touched. It's a terrific exhibit and is showing until October 25, 2026. Go see it while you can!

The Olympic Sculpture Park has been on my list to visit since it was built in 2007 and I finally…read moredid! It is a free oasis of calm, a view of the Sound, the Olympics on a clear day, and an opportunity to wander among world class contemporary sculptures. It is the free part of the Seattle Art Museum along with the original Volunteer Park building and the downtown Venturi-Cloepfil building which charge admission. Like most all museums, the work has been donated by Seattle families. It was a brownfield. The site is sloped and difficult to design to, with roads and rail going under it. It connects to the Eliot Bay Trail. The shoreline by the trail was extensively rebuilt in a natural way. The design is a success. The usual entry is from Western and Broad. Seattle has done well building apartments in the area, so parking can be fierce. The main entry has a large, clean, indoor pavilion with a minimal cafe, restrooms, some tables and chairs, artworks, and events. In rain it could be good for children, but may not have activities. To the Northwest is a narrow amphitheater. The backdrop to the amphitheater stage is a significant Serra. It is a great introduction to the artist, created in 2004, and the first piece installed in the park. The Eagle by Calder is the icon of the park often seen in photos. Seattle has a romance with Calder usually associated with his indoor hanging mobiles. Louise Bourgeois has a fountain and stone benches. A Roxy Paine stainless steel tree holds its own against the sea and mountain backdrop. A favorite artist of mine, Louise Nevelson, has a steel sculpture. They have an artist mini golf. I was especially excited to see Ai Weiwei's Circle Of Animals / Zodiac Heads on loan from the artist. I've seen other variations. Each head is a Chinese zodiac animal. I think kids would love it, but no climbing. The story of the originals is fascinating as is Weiwei's autobiography, 1000 Years of Joys and Sorrows. With all the art, to me it is primarily a park. People just walk, sit and read, decompress, and children play. It's easy to visit, except for parking, is open 24 hours, has significant contemporary artists, you don't need to know anything about art to enjoy it, and it is free!

I have been aware of the Mourning Market for a couple of years now but the dark themed market has…read morebeen around since 2009. The Mourning Market takes place in October and December. I believe each year the address for the market can change. This past year (2018) the address was at El Corazon. The Mourning Market is composed of dark themed... or Gothic styled merchandise that independent vendors and artists make and sell. This can include a variety of things from dolls, clothes, paintings, candy, cards, jewelry boxes, incense burners, necklaces and so much more! Many of the vendors do accept credit or debit cards but if there were any that did not there was an ATM at El Corazon where you could get cash. There is an entry fee to go to the market and the time we went it was only $2 which was very manageable. We bought several things here that we really enjoy! We got homemade chocolates from a vendor with a brilliant and refreshing mint flavor to it. I also got a bullet necklace where the bullet shell was carved in beautiful and elaborate designs. Steve got a David Bowie magnet which was awesome! The merchandise here is one of a kind and if it isn't then if there are duplicates of an item then it is very exclusive to that vendor or the market.In other words the likelihood of finding these items somewhere else are unlikely. Almost all of the vendors have their own business cards and I imagine you could place some orders for what they sell after the Mourning Market is held. The Mourning Market has about two dates out of the year as to when it is held. As I said location is bound to change year to year but it's definitely worth keeping track of. Their website is very straightforward and if you have the interest in becoming a vendor at the market there is even a link for that too at the website. The Mourning Market is a great way to support your local artists in the area!
