She has pretty much held my hand throughout the entire process and has been a source of encouragement. Anytime I call, I always receive a friendly and happy voice on the other end of the line from all of the office staff. I have been searching for a college where I could get an ACCREDITED graduate degree in Complementary and Alternative healthcare, and this is the ONLY one that I know of that is distance learning. I look forward to starting my classes in May!! And for the record, this school is completely affordable and has multiple payment options based on the needs of the student.

I had a difficult time calculating total cost with various fees, especially lab fees. Because the total cost isn't easily transparent, I did some deep research and came to the conclusion that the high lab cost would substantially increase the price of the program beyond the base cost. The admissions individual was very responsive until an email asking for verification if the cost based on my research was accurate because I would likely be priced out if so. Communication abruptly stopped at that point. This lack of follow through gives the college an unprofessional and a very "for profit" vibe. I also had concerns for the application of a PhD in integrative health, which I spoke to friends in the medical field about. Our discussions added to my hesitancy to spend a large chunk of time and money on an ambiguous degree. I may have considered getting a certificate here and was going to ask about it in a follow up but I guess they decided that I wasn't a big enough money maker to justify their time.

I had a deeply frustrating experience with advising and administrative handling at Portland State…read moreUniversity that resulted in serious academic and financial consequences. I clearly requested to enroll in online-only courses and to begin classes on time. However, I was not informed that classes had already started and was advised into at least one in-person course that directly conflicted with my stated needs. As a result of this situation, I lost my scholarship, received failing grades on my transcript for classes I should not have been enrolled in under those conditions, and was placed into healthcare-related enrollment that I did not want or intend to sign up for. When I raised these concerns, the response I received was that advising was "consistent with policy," without addressing the actual outcome or the discrepancy between what I requested and what occurred. I am now being held financially responsible for these charges, with the possibility of them being sent to collections, despite the fact that this situation stemmed from advising that did not align with my clearly stated requirements. From a student perspective, the issue is not whether internal procedures were followed--it is whether the guidance provided leads to accurate enrollment and protects students from avoidable harm. In my case, it did not. I strongly encourage prospective students to independently verify all advising information, especially regarding course format, enrollment timing, and associated obligations, to avoid experiencing similar outcomes.

Their staff seems young, inexperienced, and the ball has been dropped many times. Be prepared to go around and around with issues you have that won't be addressed. We received hundreds of automated emails in the spring/summer about nonsense but the important ones are sent one time and you gotta find them in the mix of everything. So far I'm not satisfied with the school. CAP coaches aren't familiar with VA certification and only certified my daughter for 11 of the 12 credits and now she won't get the full benefit amount. I communicated with the cap coach many times and now we are being penalized because the assist director to student accounts says that the cap coaches are not trained in VA affairs. WTF?!!! Those I've reached out to don't seem to care and so I don't buy into their "be known" mission statement because to be known is to be valued as a person. Also be aware that a 3.0 student in an easy degree will be award the same as a 4.0 student in a harder degree such as nursing or engineering because well the easy degrees also need to award money and the bar is lower for the achievers in this group is what I was told. What a slap in the face to get the same amount.

Currently I'm in the Dental Assisting program & although I would change a few things, I am pretty happy with the experience. The biggest issue was communication. Getting answers to simple questions often took days or weeks, if I received a response at all. Students were constantly left waiting for information that directly affected their education, schedules, and personal lives. The tutoring services were another major disappointment. I had more tutoring sessions canceled than completed. In my experience, appointments with Zeke Garcia and Lauren Hawana were frequently canceled with little notice, sometimes at the scheduled start time after I had already arranged my day around them. Tutoring was promoted as a resource for student success, but it was unreliable and often unavailable when needed most. What frustrated me most was the constant gap between what was promised and what was actually provided. We were told there would be tutoring, resources, guidance, career assistance, and support throughout the program. Time and time again, those promises were not fulfilled. The schedule changes created serious consequences for me personally. We were told that schedules would remain set for each term, which lasts approximately 3.5 months. Instead, schedules were repeatedly changed, making it nearly impossible to maintain stable employment while attending school. The constant changes ultimately caused conflicts with my job, and I lost my employment as a result. Losing my job also meant losing my health insurance and financial stability during an already demanding nursing program. I understand that occasional changes happen, but the lack of consistency, communication, and support had real-world consequences for students. Rather than helping students succeed, I often felt like I was being forced to navigate unnecessary obstacles on my own. I completed the program despite these challenges, but I would strongly encourage prospective students to carefully research this school and get any promises regarding schedules, tutoring, student support, resources, and career assistance in writing before enrolling.
