Five stars all the way to the amazing Chef Sara!…read more I have decided to treat my wife (who loves Indian/Pakistani food) to a cooking class, and I can honestly say that I can't think of anything that would have brought her more joy than these three wonderful hours with Sara. She was super friendly, hospitable and funny, and she even surprised us both by baking a birthday cake!. I must confess, I've never liked Indian food, but after tasting the chicken tikka masala with naan that we made, I changed my mind! My wife said that this was by far the best meal she's had in her life!!! Thank you Sara for making this the best birthday gift ever! Gabriel.

My sister had the brilliant idea of arranging a cooking class for my birthday. After a few internet…read moresearches of East Bay Area options, we settled on learning the art of Indian cuisine with Chef Sara. We couldn't be happier with our experience! Due to the winter holidays, when I booked the class, there was no group schedule posted online. After a quick email exchange, I was able to pick a date that was convenient for us. This worked out great for us because we ended up having a private lesson (we were unsure if our date was advertised and were pleasantly surprised when we learned it would be just us). When we arrived, Chef Sara gave us some warm Masala Chai tea (which was delicious). She picked out 3 main dishes for us: Chicken Korahi (Pakistani dish, a tad spicy due to our request); Cauliflower Curry; and Chana Dal (lentils). To top it off, we had chopati (similar to naan) and fried Pakora Dal dumplings (common to eat when it rains). Chef Sara was very pleasant, informative, and flexible to our interests. At the beginning, she asked if we preferred to watch her cook or help along the way. We chose the latter, although she did most of the leg work. The result was amazing - we were hungry by the end, but not starving because she gave us some tastes along the way. We learned some great tidbits, which was a treat for me since I love to cook, but haven't ventured into the world of spices and techniques that Indian cooking offers. The only downside for us was having to travel to the Hercules location (we were hoping for Berkeley or Oakland), but it was worth the trip. All in all, cooking with Chef Sara had a very homey feel (partially because we are in her home, but also because of her down to earth style). Highly recommend signing up for a class! We hope to return with our significant others, perhaps for a special occasion.

All the mental health treatment I was going through just wasn't enough. I learned by working with Ajinder the significance of gut health, daily hydration, exercise, meditation, sleep hygiene and even cycle syncing. Before working with her, I would have prided myself in most of those aspects and my knowledge of them, but she helped me put the pieces together to help them make sense and actually work together. Most importantly, she did it all in a manner that made me stick to these habits. Now, nearly 4 months since my last session, I can proudly say I've kept up with all my goals. I wish I could shout from the rooftops how amazing this woman is! It's also worth mentioning that i live on the opposite side of the country as her so for anyone hesitant to do virtual or phone visits, she made it work, even with the time difference. I am so glad I took the leap and did this for myself because it was the foundation I so desperately needed to build my new "me".

Wow to the grits with incredible sauce on top. Yum to the lamb with the coffee rub. Bam to the delicate and delightful ice cream and cookies at dessert. I also appreciated the through-line of flavors that showed up at different courses during the meal. Enjoying Ikeena's cooking is truly a privilege.

She is the complete package: superb service, sublime food--an unforgettable dining experience. To say she handles everything from beginning to end is an understatement. Her meticulous attention to detail is extreme in the best way. She painstakingly planned our menu, earnestly shopped for locally sourced organic meats and vegetables, and went to extraordinary lengths to bring, prep, cook, and serve a 5-star meal for a private party of 8 in our home. In addition, she baked a mouth-watering Carrot Coconut Bundt cake for dessert with homemade buttermilk ice cream, which left us in a state of absolute food bliss. In short, her culinary creations are other-worldly. More importantly, she is not only a brilliant chef and savvy food entrepreneur, but a warm and joyful spirit while in your home. With her meticulously curated sous chef and servers, you feel like you're dining in a Michelin-rated restaurant. Best of all, when the meal is complete, they clean up as if they were never there. Thank you, Chef Keena! Can't wait to host another event with you! P.S. When preparing your menu (in addition to the bundt cake), I highly recommend the grilled coffee-rubbed steak, crispy creole lobster bites, spiny lobster, and dirty rice boulettes! Yum!

Few examples - * Russian cuisine - Herring with a pickled onion on fresh bread * Indian street food - I was surprised how much I enjoyed this vegan street snack - I would have never ordered anything without meat, and I dislike spinach, but the fried spinach snack was mind-blowingly good. * Mexican - Quesadilla with plantain. Again, no meat but it was soooooo good. * Chinese - Glazed Pork and pork-filled bun I won't spoil the surprise for some of the other locations. And more, and more - Total of about 7-8 places. You won't stay hungry, guaranteed. The walk itself is not challenging; there are no hills to overcome, even though it's San Francisco. Don't wait - Just go!

It's fast-paced and she throws a lot of information at you, but the whole process is warm, interactive and accessible. I immediately felt like I could leave Ruby's home and make these cheeses (and other dairy products!) we had learned in my own. I especially love that she's found what seems like the perfect middle ground between science lesson and home-cook/homesteader understanding. She brings her personal experience in with just enough of the science and technical understanding to make home cheese making incredible accessible and attainable. I also love that IUH also has a sliding scale for fees because it demonstrates the value they put on what they teach in making these classes more widely accessible. I already have the summer farm tours on my calendar, and I can't wait to take my next class.

I just tried again today using their "unsubscribe" link. What I got back was NOT a confirmation that I'd been unsubscribed. Rather, it was a detailed email from an unknown (to me) mail server company which wanted me to click on THEIR link to actually unsubscribe. I'm not about to click on an unknown link from an unknown sender. I think a direct request using the "Unsubscribe" link in an Urban Homestead email and sent from the very email address I want unsubscribed is absolutely sufficient. I do not recommend getting on their email list.
