We recently from California to Georgia, and bought a house that needed some work along with…read moreexterior landscaping; during our home inspection, it was suggested I remove quite a few large trees surrounding our property either because they have started to die or have begun leaning towards the house. I chose 5 companies based on high ratings and reviews from multiple sites (Google, Yelp, HomeAdvisor, NextDoor) and received estimates that had a wide range in price/cost. BTW- the scope of work was tree cutting and stump grinding. Here's why I decided to go with KnowTrees: 1. This company had the most consistent highest ratings across all of the sites. Many of the reviews were recent and from a wide range of individuals. BTW - YELP is hiding many of the 5 star review from many other customers. If you scroll to the bottom of the review, you can see the hidden reviews. 2. The owner, Matthew, is fantastic. 3. Most importantly to me.....the PRICE. His bid was very competitive and reasonable. Here's why I'm glad I used KnowTrees: 1. Great communication leading up to the work. 2. The crew very professional. 3. The work was done efficiently and carefully. 4. Clean up was fab. My next door neighbor was so pleased with the work they did (he was watching them from his porch) he wanted their contact info. I plan on using KnowTrees as our primary tree expert. If they venture into landscaping and/or hardscaping, I know who to turn to. If you'd like more info or pictures of before and after, happy to share.

The railing replacement went well - unfortunately the masonry work was problematic. Issues included: Failure to keep scheduled appointments with Client; failure to advise Client regarding delays for scheduled appointments, poor subcontractor selection (characterized by their failure to return to finish the original job); failure to supervise subcontractor activities; failure to manage the construction schedule; failure to come to the job site when scheduled and communicated to Client; failure to keep the Client apprised of delays and corrective action; lack of responsiveness to Client inquiries (telephonic or via email); improper selection of materials (brick and mortar); damage to landscaping during construction; failure to correct damaged / buried sprinkler heads post-construction; improper installation of brick with respect to step pitch resulting in water accumulation, algae growth, and creation of a safety hazard; improper installation of brick on facings; improper mortar mixing resulting in fracturing of installed mortar and unacceptable time to "complete" job (over three months). These failings have resulted in a significant safety hazard and are the proximate cause of a subsequent rebuild. The quality of brickwork was / is unacceptable, was recognized as such by the owner and I received repeated assurances that steps would be taken to "make it right". I worked with the owner of DCILM for over a year to address structural, safety and aesthetic issues with the rebuild of my front steps to no avail. As a result, I must now rebuild the previously paid-for project. The overall experience was extremely poor, ranking among the worst contractor performances I have been a party to over 40+ years and 10+ homes. DCILM is competent in general irrigation matters and limited installation of sod. I do not recommend them for services beyond those core competencies based upon my experience and I will not consider using them again for any service.

I noted that this group had an Angi award for 2022 so I decided to get a quote and have someone come look at our project. We had about 4 people come out to quote us, their pricing was competitive and Rick seemed the most knowledgeable. From the get-go, my husband and I were impressed with Rick's knowledge and expertise, mentioned things to consider that were not even on our radar and were so glad he was able to educate us and the work needed to be done, he had lots of great pictures of his work as well. We had a bathroom that was way outdated and needed a complete redo. Meeting Rick and learning more about him during the construction, we both really enjoyed Rick as a person--which I think makes all of the difference, he has a great personality, very kind, some good jokes, good character, really cares for his family and his community, overall, he's a great guy and his partner, Gwen, too. Rick was able to start the project quickly, so we would have plenty of time to have it completed before moving into our new house. They worked really hard, came early each morning and got a lot accomplished each day. I can be pretty particular but Rick was awesome to work with me, give me a professional perspective and recommendations and called me if there were questions to get my feedback to be sure things were just as I wanted them.
