These days it seems there as as many smog check stations as there are tacos shops in my neighborhood. This is not a bad thing really, since a multitude of choices is typically better. My daughter had put off getting her Jetta a necessary smog check so she wanted a place quick and close by. I searched for her. I found this one with the help of Yelp! I had been using the same place in University Heights for years with the little Reader coupon. The price was identical here without the coupon, so this made it easy, being only about a mile from home. Not only that, the technician is really friendly, fast and will explain everything if you want and have you back on the road in about 10-15 minutes! No hidden charges at all. This came out to $38 total! So I took my Subaru here a couple weeks ago and got mine done. Mind you, this is for 2000 and newer vehicles. 1995 and older will cost $60 total and the test is longer. Still, these are the best prices near me and now my new place to go for sure.

I decided to give this place a try because it was convenient to drop off my vehicle to get it smogged while I ate lunch at a nearby place I wanted to try. It looks like the guy runs it out of his home. The office could use a makeover, but I'm not going to hold that against the guy. It worked out well for me. He did it efficiently and told me I should celebrate that it passed. I guess when your vehicle is 12 years old they start saying stuff like that to you. I don't know, maybe he was just kidding. I appreciate that because things are just too serious most of the time. A little brevity goes a long way in my book. That's why I am giving this place 4 instead of 3 stars. That and the 29.95$ special.

I submitted a change to Yelp and maybe you'll see Saturday hours listed by the time you read this review. Anyway, today I drove over there and as everyone says, Slavko is super friendly and professional. Someone else drove up shortly before me and he was just starting with her car...Slavko told me my car would be done in 25-30 minutes. I came back in a half hour and my car was done and it was $38 with cert. BTW there's a really cute little waiting area (see the photo I uploaded). I HIGHLY recommend Slavko & College Smog Check!

Service was straightforward. Pulled up, no one was there so the guy pulled my car into the bay. It took about 15 mins to perform the smog test. They had a little bench with a covering next to their dumpsters to wait. My car passed and I paid. I took a star off because the service was OVERPRICED at $58. I actually went to the guy next door first and his pricing was $20 cheaper, but he was waiting on his certificate for the particular check I needed, and yesterday when I was driving on Waring Road, I saw a place that charges $29.95. To be fair, the guy did tell me the price beforehand, and on that particular day, I just wanted to get it out of the way so just agreed to the inflated price. Oh well! Next year, I'll def have two reasonably priced options on my list so I'm not in the same pickle. read more

This guy was incredibly unhelpful. I gave him a heads up that the Cadillac converter ID number was going to be difficult to see because it was an older vehicle and it was aftermarket since the original was stolen. He didn't seem to wanna give any effort to try to find it. I had to go under the car myself to try to find the number while he sat down looking at the computer. I took a picture and he still didn't want to figure out what it was. A total waste of time. read more

I've learn that the previous owner retired and sold his business. Been going here for years and the price is been consistent, until now. The previous owner use to charge around $37 and the new owner charges about $70. That's a big difference, specially the smog permits are only around $8, so the service fee is about $61. The new owner is nice and all, but the price hike is a little steep. Will be going to another place for smog, good luck to everyone who is loyal to this business, since the previous owner no longer owns it. read more

Bummer Slavko retired! I've been going here well over the 11 years my 5 stars original review I made. My car went from being $38 to $90 for smog. It's higher then other competitors. Obviously prices have gone up but most places went up $10. The new person working said well you can take it somewhere else then lol he ain't wrong. Slavko you will be missed. I took all 3 of my cars here for over 12 years :( read more

Under new ownership since my last visit (2 years ago), but still fast friendly service - and even at the same low price as it has long been. Nobody would spend time and money getting a smog check IF the State did NOT require it - but College Smog Check makes the experience "pleasant" (and requires spending less time and money than anywhere else I know about). read more

I am so pleased with the service I received from Abdul. I failed my smog due to not having driven my car enough in doing the correct amount of both city and freeway driving after a recent repair. He offered to do it the second time, half price. I was very thankful, as money is tight, and after Googling it, I found that a smog station is not obligated to do a second test, half price. This especially was nice of him, as I waited nearly 3 weeks to return due to having serious health issues that included a recent visit to ER. Abdul not only showed his professionalism, but his kindness and humanity shone through! I'm quite happy to recommend him, and will be passing out his cards. Happy Holidays! read more

This is my second time coming. Guy is really nice and gets the car done quick. 38.00 for smog and certification. Cash only still as far as know. The place is tucked behind the old Egyptian tea room so look out for a purple building and it's behind there. Get there right at 8 or a little before and you shouldn't have much wait. I go during the week though, so can't say much for Saturdays. No real place to park, its super small so just park off to the side. Would recommend. **Has a bench and table with chair around the corner read more

Do not go here if you think your car has any possibility of failing, because they charge EVERY time if you fail. Most places give you a 90 day free retest if you fail but NOT HERE. My battery was just replaced last week and failed because it hadn't gone through the drive cycle after it was replaced. Extremely disappointed to have wasted money and told you have to pay again next time, for such an easy fix. The guy who performed it was really nice and walked me through how to get it to pass next time but very frustrating when you choose a place based on budget and then get told you have to pay again. So much for saving money! read more

I was looking for a smog shop on the DMV's website and this place the nearest to my house. I walked in around 12:30pm, filled out a simple small piece of paper, and handed Luke my car keys. He said to come back in 20 minutes. After getting coffee, I came back and my car was ready to go. Luke was so friendly! Fast service and a very reasonable price! read more

On 4/14 I brought in an Escalade after replacing the rear brakes because it started throwing multiple warning lights, even though the ABS sensor and brakes were already replaced. I understand newer vehicle technology can sometimes cause glitches even with simple repairs, so I trusted they'd be able to diagnose and fix it. They charged a $130 diagnostic fee, which I was completely fine with. The next day, they said they needed to reset the computer for $390. Since I had already paid for the diagnostic and was told it would go toward the repair, I agreed. The following day, I was told they couldn't reset it and that I'd need a new module for $3,468.54. I declined and decided to get a second opinion from our regular mechanic. I still paid the $390 plus a $13.65 service charge, which I later found out was a credit card fee. The next day, I took the vehicle to our regular mechanic. Within 2 hours, they cleared the stored codes and the vehicle was ready, total cost: $120. No waiting days, no module replacement, and no unnecessary upsell. I waited a couple of weeks before writing this review to make sure the issue didn't come back, and also spoke with Barry to see if anything could be done about the $403.65 I paid. I felt it was unfair to be charged for a service that ultimately wasn't completed. I would've been completely fine just paying the $130 diagnostic fee. Unfortunately, he declined, stating the charge was for their time. I understand time was spent, but from a business standpoint, I wouldn't feel right charging a client for a repair that wasn't successfully completed, especially when the vehicle left in the same condition it arrived. Because of this experience, I wouldn't return or recommend this shop to others. I think it's important for people to know that you may end up paying for work that doesn't actually resolve the issue.

Since all three reliable and reputable mechanics disagreed, I went with my instinct. Thus, maybe my vehicle was complex. I was not led astray. I pulled into AA Smog around 12:15 on a Wednesday afternoon. I was the only car there. However, right after that, two other cars pulled in behind me. The attendant, maybe the owner, jumped out to greet me. He took my info and DMV paperwork. He quoted me $65 dollars, which I found quite reasonable, as other nearby places charge more, even when they claim to be offering a discount. I sat down in one of of the few lawn chairs to wait. Literally, five minutes later, my car had passed and was ready to go. On top of that, the person who helped me was quite friendly and chatted with me about his four cockatiels who were there with him. Getting Smogged is never something was want to do, but something we have to do. AA Smog Shop made it easy.

I brought in my Honda Ridgeline for an issue with my AC. Jason worked with me at the front-desk and went above and beyond to understand my issue and the troubleshooting I had already done. He explained to me CONCISELY what the feasible issue may be, and how they were going to approach a diagnosis. Jason was extremely knowledgeable, and followed up promptly to discuss the fix. Pedro was also exceptional. He found the issue (rodent-chewed wires) and repaired it perfectly. When I picked up my car, he was as excited as I was to have helped me. Before Miramar Auto, I took my truck to the Honda dealer, and they charged twice as much for a diagnosis, only to tell me that I would need a new compressor (incorrect diagnosis) and that it would cost twice as much as I ended up paying out the door at Miramar auto. I couldn't believe how easy Miramar Auto made it. To say that Jason, Pedro, and Miramar Auto are honest, fair, and made me feel taken care of... would be an understatement. All of the owners reviews speak for themselves. As other reviews have stated, the owner is super friendly, fair-priced, gets you in and out fast, and does a great job! I've been coming to college smog check since my SDSU days and it's the ONLY place I go to for a smog check. I've referred a lot of people and everyone agrees that this place is the best in SD. I've been taking my car here for years now, I live in the neighborhood, and teach at SDSU - recommend this place to all my students and friends. He's friendly, thorough, and great to work with. Great service! I miss placed my registration notice renewal, I went to a registration service to do my renewal and advice me I have to get smog. I've search for a smog shop and college smog was the closest one. I drove to the shop got my smog I took me about 15 min and just like that price I paid $40.00. read more
