Upon arriving at Collin Street Bakery, it gleaned "fine dining". The inside is exceptionally clean, the staff are helpful and kind, and the food that I tried from the deli was fantastic. Pricing on their sandwiches was better than subway, for the amount given at the quality it was delivered. Next, while perusing the menu, I noticed the pricing of the fruit cake and was taken back at first, but then after looking more closely the amount of fruitcake you got for the amount you pay (especially since it is Collin Street Bakery's signature item). When you go to Collin Street Bakery do yourself a favor: get the blueberry poundcake. You'll definitely thank me for that later. Its has just the right amount of sweetness and is nice and fluffy with a wonderful blueberry flavor. Also - we bought my little guy a giant cookie roughly the size of his head. I stop here on every trip I make from Louisiana to Texas. I haven't sampled all of their sandwiches yet, but I have enjoyed every one of the ones I have tried. I always have to try some kind of pastry, but I consistently come back to the "Russian Rocks". I usually get a dozen and nibble on them throughout the next few days. We were very excited to stop here for a sweet bite after seeing lots of billboards up and down Interstate 20. We tried the vanilla cupcake, lemon cookie, chocolate with white chunk cookie, and a cup of coffee. The cupcake was quite a bit firmer and drier than my family prefers. My son said it was basically like a Lofthouse cookie (you know, those brightly frosted sugar cookies at all the grocery stores) shaped into a cupcake form. The cookies were just meh. My husband's opinion was that it tasted hollow. He took one bite and threw it back in the bag. My chocolate cookie wasn't too bad. However, the coffee was extremely disappointing. It tasted like the coffee in a Motel 6 lobby. Very weak and watered down, and they only had non-dairy creamer. Who even serves that anymore? Really? Non-dairy creamer? We didn't buy a world famous fruitcake. They were pretty pricey, though. It looks like they also serve sandwiches. The prices on bakery treats weren't bad. The cupcake was $1.00, and the cookies were I think .50 each. The small coffee, at $1.50, was pretty heartbreaking, though. As you can tell, I'm still kind of bitter about the lack of half and half. The staff at this location was friendly and seemed happy to be working there - that's always a plus. My advice to the bakery: Put as much effort into your products as your advertising, and you should do well here. My advice to travelers: Not a bad little place to stop, but keep your expectations low to avoid crushing disappointment. read more

We live in the Hideaway community right by this location. The coffee and tea are excellent. Unfortunately, we have gluten allergies, so we can't enjoy any of the delicious looking treats! I wish they would carry some sort of gluten-free muffin or cookie, even though there's always a chance of cross contamination. It's always nice to have a little something to dunk in your tea. This was my first stop at Collin Street after driving by many times and seen the billboard advertisements. I stopped for a late to go lunch at around 1:00 PM on a Thursday. I stood around at the Deli Line counter for several minutes while 3 staff just...looked at me. I walked over to the register, cashier just stared. 3 managers were talking in a corner to each other and never looked over. I finally had to loudly say "How do you order here?" On a driving trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans, when we saw the billboard for the Collin Street Bakery store in Lindale, we just HAD to stop!!!! This is the mecca for fruitcake lovers!!! This is a company store for one of the few surviving quality fruitcake stores on the planet!!! Our family has given and received fruitcakes from this company since the 60's. But......our experience at this store was very frustrating. At 10am, the store had only one of the fruitcake assortment packs we were hoping to buy more of, and completely out of one of their signature fruitcakes. Then.....the counter help was insanely slow.....I had pre-packaged fruitcakes, but when I asked the clerk if they had any of the fruitcakes I wanted more of in back, he said "no" and offered me three free cookies from the big baked-goods display case. When I told him which three I wanted, he began asking me if I was allergic to any of the main ingredients in the ones I had chosen????? What???? I have a number of food allergies, but it is MY business if I come in their store knowing that there are fruits in their cakes that I'm allergic to, but since one doesn't get much fruitcake in the best of times, I treat myself with quality fruitcake whenever I can, and I don't worry about my allergies. Then, the clerk asked if I wanted some coffee, or sandwiches. I had no plans to get either, and I certainly didn't want to chance the interrogation and slow service the clerk had to offer. My suggestion: Look at the Collin Street Bakery on-line or call the main bakery to order--they have many more items than the store seems to ever have in stock, and the customer service people that you talk to are nice and also knowledgeable about the products. Yes, you will have to pay for shipping, but you will get exactly what you want. read more

We live nearby and love grabbing lunch to go at this bakery. Yes, the baked goods are delicious, however they also have wonderful sandwiches, soups and salads. We especially love the Cobb Salad! Don't forget about the coffee! The Lattes are superb. My hubby is pretty picky about coffee and he has a latte here several days a week. Love supporting a smaller business instead of SB's. All of this in a gorgeous and clean building with great customer service. You can't go wrong. read more

Upon entering, we waited around for approx 5 minutes to order a sandwich, while employees just walked around cleaning up (keep in mind...we arrived at 5 & they didn't close until 7). Someone finally came dragging up to the counter, rudely acting like we were disrupting her. Took our order...food came out fast....in fact we were still in line trying to pay when it arrived. Food was mediocre. Nothing special. After eating we went to get coffees. Ordered 2, he brings one to the counter & says..."we only had enough coffee for 1, is that ok?" This is a very nice place and the employees have always been very friendly, over the last half-dozen visits. The chicken salad is outstanding and the various cookies are good. The brownies have changed, though. If they could bring back the old brownie recipe even occasionally that would be wonderful. Cut them bigger and charge more if necessary, maybe selling a small brownie for $0.65 was not worth it - but that recipe was special! The new brownies are not special, sadly. read more

Passing through on our way back to Dallas we decided to rest and check out the bakery. We ordered the chicken salad sandwich, ham and cheese, a cupcake, brownie, and cookies. Chicken salad was bland and blah. Ham and cheese was at best ordinary. I added mayo and salt to both. Brownie, stale. Cupcake, stale. Lemon sugar cookies, stale and bland. My wife and just ate here this evening and were so disappointed with the service. The only reason this isn't a one star review is because the food tasted good. My wife had eaten at both Corsicana locations and was pleased, so we were excited to try this one. There were 2 people in line in front of us and we ordered two sandwiches - a roast beef and a chicken salad. There was one cashier open and it took us 30 minutes total to order and get our food. The girl on the sandwich line was horsing around with another employee and playfully pushed a piece of bread into his face and fell onto the work surface. Thank goodness she didn't use that piece of bread. No one seemed in a hurry. Generally, I am worried about health practices here due to other observations. If you want to eat at CSB I would try the other locations but avoid this one sadly. read more

Stopped here for lunch and I didn't regret that decision. This place is modern and has been in business for 100 years. They are known for their chicken salad sandwiches and their famous fruitcake. The prices are a bit high, depending on what you get. They sell pies, breads, fruitcake, cookies, cupcakes, sandwiches, cakes and other desserts. The store has a bit of everything. The employees are friendly and helpful. My chicken salad sandwich was delicious and I wish it had been bigger. I had the strawberry lemonade to drink. For some reason they have 3 Tesla electric car outlets in the back of the restaurant in the parking lot. I have never seen those before so that was unusual. Still kinda cool. They have a nice clean dining area, a covered patio area as well outside. The restrooms were very clean and smelled great. I would definitely return here if I'm in the neighborhood. I feel comfortable giving this location a two star. If you know me well enough, then you know that I am known as "no stop robin" on road trips. I don't know, I guess it 's all about making good time. BUT, i pulled off here in lindale, the newest location of the Collin street bakeries thinking OMG I can't wait to have some seriously good cookies. I have been to the one off 45 on the way to Houston and it is pretty good. This new location (no offense) tasted like old shelf cookies that should have been on sale. The after taste of some cookies had that bad cookie grease residue taste that just seemed to filled my mouth after a couple of bites. Some cookies were too hard and turned to dust after one bite. They are new and need some improvements. The line took 10 mins just to get dozen cookies (don't judge me, girls got to eat). Sorry to say this was not worthy of the "no stop" robin. :( read more

Tomatoes mushy. Chicken salad was bland. Oversided sandwich to-go wasn't cut in half.. requires 2 hands to eat. No napkins in bag. I've had store bought taste better. Daily soup was sold out? Staff had no manners, unfriendly, curt, and unhelpful. To top it off, $7 for a sandwich.. all alone. You must be kidding. Lastly, they were out of half of the bakery items they are 'known' for... I'll join other reviewers in saying PASS this on 20 and don't stop. Subway would have been an improvement.. and that's sad. read more

What, what?!? I think I've entered the twilight zone. This place is awesome. I'm sitting here enjoying my latte and lemon cookie as I write this, by the way. Two chicken salad sandwiches, which were delicious, a loaf of cinnamon bread, an assorted bag of cookies, two lemonades and two lattes for less than $15!! So far, all is completely delicious. The staff, amazing. My husband and I are passing through from Austin on our way to Wilmington when we noticed the billboard for this place and we were not disappointed. I have NO idea why this place hasn't received better ratings. We're stopping again on our trip back home! Thank you to the staff, the goodies and the 10 lbs I'm going to gain from stopping! Dozen cookies for $7.20. Tried the chocolate w/ white chocolate chips, nuggets, sugar, cherry, lemon. Best by far was the cherry. I'll get just hose probably next time I return. Sugar was good but not great. Lemon was just not good. Nuggets were so-so. Chocolate w/white chocolate chips was less than desirable as well. Somewhat disappointed in this visit. Have always liked the things I got here. Until I got some muffins first taste was good. Second taste almost made me puke, bit into it, chewed once, it had a hair inside it, gagged me. I threw the rest away, wasted my money(on the 1st muffin,2nd bit), will not be going back. If you like getting surprise hair's in your muffin this might be the place for you!
