We decided to give this little place a try. From the outside, it didn't look like much. A little plain building, which I nearly passed up. But it did turned out to be packed with little surprises. Upon entering the business, I noticed that the lights were dimmed, and that there were laser lights twirling around, and disco balls were on the celling. It gave an almost cosmic feel. My daughter really enjoyed that because people could watch her shoes light up as she pranced around. They played music over the intercom/speakers, which helped set up an enjoyable atmosphere. I believe that the cosmic lights are available until 5pm. Then the regular lights are tuned on. Colonial Bowling Lanes isn't as big as other bowing alley's I have been to in the past. It has 24 Lanes, but they are pretty up to date with tech. You can choose different types of game setups, screen backgrounds, and animations. I could even set the lanes to automatically bring up and lower the lane bumpers for myself, I mean my kids, yeah kids need those. I really didn't have the time to dive deep into the capabilities, but found it pretty impressive. The staff was very nice and professional. When any customer had an issue with a ball not returning, or anything that normally goes wrong at a Bowling Alley. They were quick to respond. They made you feel as though, your problem, was their problem. When a group or a person was done with their area. They would hurry and and clean, as well as sanitize that area. Colonial Lanes also has a bowling shop, a few arcade games, and a full menu. And when I say a full menu, I mean A FULL MENU. You can order anything from from fried to grill chicken. To hamburgers, nachos, pizzas, and hot sausage po-boys. Philly's, salads, catfish, and even breakfast. If you are in the area, check out this little hometown gem. They have reasonable prices on lanes, and also offer birthday party packages. read more

For real told me to bring a doctor's note for my arthritis, if I wanna use the kids yellow balls that are lighter in the future. Honestly made me feel ridiculous for being physically limited. Kinda sucks when u and a friends are really hype up about going bowl after work and we try our hardest to get off on time (9pm) and we get out just ten minutes late. Rush over to colonial to go bowl but they close early because they said they have no customers for the past half hour. This happened to us maybe about 3-4 times already and to be honest you guys might as well change your hours to close at 9pm then if you are going to tell everyone that you close early, even though u close at 12? I get it there's no customers for that past half hour at 9pm but we should up at 9:20pm y'all don't close your the next 3 hours. Is it because you don't feel like working? Or you just wanna go home early so you tell people that you close early? I'm really disappointed. read more

I went with my younger cousins. Janan C made us feel unwelcome when we were renting our shoes and lane. It was league night so there were only two lanes open and we got one of them. We cheered when my cousin got a spare and Janan C came to chastise us in a condescending tone--while invading our personal space and not wearing a mask--for "being a distraction to the league" and to stop "cutting up." We were not cursing, making gestures, or being inappropriate. If they want the bowling alley to be regulated, they should close the alley to the public instead of having us bowl and be uncomfortable/unwelcome. The other league guests also were giving us extremely hateful looks like we were intruders, which was shocking and hurtful. We left 30 minutes into our 1hr because we felt unsafe as young non-white girls in a that hostile environment. "Colonial" is a fitting name. read more

I am not a bowler and I've mostly been here for family birthday parties, but I think it's a pretty good bowling alley. I was really impressed by the upgrades the alley has made (since the last family party...whenever that was). There are fancy digital score boards which flash images when the player gets a strike or spare. They even have a vending with socks for sale in case you forgot to bring some. It does have a kitchen with basic fare. The pizza at my niece's party seemed to be enjoyed by all. And I believe that there is a full service bar on site. Again, I didn't partake of that today. This is also the location of the Jefferson Recreation Dept's special needs bowling league. My niece loves it. read more

We had our 7 year old daughter's Birthday party here and we LOVED it!! We chose the "Cosmic" bowling, which is black light bowling.... it was fun, the kids LOVED it, our party host, Ms Janet was AWESOME!! She was attentive and made my job as parent/host a lot easier! The food was good & fresh. Music was fun and appropriate for the age group. We were probably the 3rd round of parties for the day (we had a 3pm time slot) and the place was clean!! I saw reviews on customer service here - and I truly do not have a complaint. The young man at the desk was friendly and the manager was very friendly and informative. I spent my birthday here tonight with some friends and the attendants, staff, cooks, and owners were amazing. My party started late (30 min) but they accommodated us and were VERY friendly. The food was delicious and drinks were tasty and cost effective. When our time was up, we had 1 frame left and our time was going to expire, the wife was so very nice and gave us the extra time to finish it. I want to thank you guys for one of the best times I've ever had and we will return. I highly recommend coming here. It wasn't crowded and smoke free. We went on my day off in a group of three. None of us had been there before so we asked the staff if we payed per time or per game. Staff was incredibly rude in response. We got to our lane. I started bowling with the lightest ball available (9lbs) because I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands. The staff took the ball away. She asked why would I bowl with these balls. I said "I have carpal tunnel syndrome so I need the lightest balls." She said that these balls are for babies and refused to let a person with a disability use them. There is no excuse for discrimination against anyone, especially not the disabled. read more

ive been coming here since i was a little child! a lot of the charm of what it used to look like is gone. have to pay $1 per song on the jukebox or just listen to silence. really unfortunate that they did away with midnight bowling rates. over $50 for two hours of bowling (which i can expect with how things are now) but the staff will still be annoyed with you for wanting to come in late :/ and i (a girl) asked for a 8-lb ball and was instructed that i am not allowed to let the men i was with use it. lol. read more

Colonial is such a fitting name for this establishment. My cousin, sister and I are Asian Americans and as soon as we walked in, we had nasty stares and rude customers service. We left 30 minutes into our 1 hour game because Janan C was so rude to us from the start. I had cheered because I made a strike and she came up to us and got in our face and laid her hands on my cousin and said we were "cutting up and being distracting to the leagues. " We were just looking for some fun since the pandemic started, but she and the environment was so hostile towards us simply because we looked different. I recently visited on a Saturday for a Kiddie Birthday Party... TALK ABOUT MADNESSSSSS. My disclaimer: I'm a 30 year old childless woman so yea there's that. It was a lot of little kids. Everywhereeeee people just running. Apparently Saturday is Birthday Party Central with like 5 parties going on at once probably all under the age of 10. Pros. 1. Its kind of dark in here for those special neon lights (or whatever they are called) so specific neon colors on your clothes can glow. The glow is fun and funny especially for kids. Not so fun if you are an adult and only thing glowing is your bra. So just be careful but very fun for the kiddies. 2. The Juice. I'm not sure what it is (probably Hawaiian punch) but it's like crack. I don't get much sugar in me these days but that juice had me pumped up and wanting more. 3. Pizza. The pizza is very good and filling and especially good if you allow your kids to eat pizza. You may even get away with one slice per person. 4. Bowling. Lots of fun bowling. Good thing is if you have a lot of little little kids with you, they actually do not need to change their shoes; only the teenagers and adults. Cons. 1. KIDS KIDS KIDS. If you hate kids, well don't go here during the day on Saturdays. Well you probably shouldn't go a lot of places. 2. Parking. Parking can be a tad scarce on popular days so be prepared for that possibility. Overall this is a great place for a bowling party. read more

Since there is no longer a bowling alley on the Westbank, me and my buddy migrated to Harahan to go bowling. For one hour of bowling and two pair of shoes its cost me around 20 bucks. Not bad at all for some entertainment. The actual establishment was fairly clean for a bowling alley. The employees seemed to not care about me much. They weren't rude, but they weren't nice. I guess they just didn't care lol. If you are looking to go bowling and are not looking for anything special, Colonial Lanes is always a decent choice. Went on a rainy Saturday. We were the fist few there but then the families and the parties started to arrive. Even though we were just 2 adults practicing, we got the full on birthday experience! Disco balls, loud kid-Disney-esque music, indoor smoke, black lights and crazy light shows. It made throwing balls a little more distracting, but it also made it more fun! These are lanes that are better maintained than the ones at Rock n Bowl, so if you care anything for your game/score, bowl here. Also a little more affordable per hour. read more

My group and I (a trio) came in on Friday, December 30, and stood by the counter waiting to get a lane. No one was in front of us. The guy at the counter walked away, and another came up only to answer the annoying phone. Not only did he not tell us to give him a minute, he failed to acknowledge our presence. Ok, I understand if it was NYE or Christmas, but it was certainly past Christmas and obviously not NYE yet. When we asked for a lane, he let out a huge sigh and his unwelcoming attitude didn't help the fact that I already regretted the decision to come here. Where's the southern hospitality? Jeez. The trio bought an hour of bowling ($22 plus $3-4 for shoes), and we got the last lane: 24. I'm not going to blame my awful bowling game on this lane, but if I must say something about the lanes, I will say that they were not slick. Every time I bowled, I felt like I was throwing a tire on gravel. Ok, maybe a little exaggerated, but you get the picture. The system was a little screwy (e.g. 2 pins were left standing for the next bowler), and the graphics made me feel like I was 8 again (I'm a designer, so these things bother me :X). The bowlings balls just didn't feel like a bowling ball to me - the balls have a matte finish for those of you who prefer glossy. However, I'm no pro bowler who knows everything there is to know about bowling, so take my comment with a grain of salt if you'd like. The alley is a bit outdated if you ask me, but at least Colonial updated their arcade. On a good note, the nachos were pretty good. You can't go wrong with nachos. I also like how the tables are set up; they have the awesome swivel chairs :D read more

I mean... it is what it is, I suppose- a bowling alley- Don't expect anything exciting from Colonial though. Perhpas I am just not much of a bowling person, but my entire experience here was not a comfortable one. The layout of the alley is confusing (I had to walk all the way across the place to find a bowling ball) and none of the fixed chairs face the way you want them to. At night on weekends, it is "cosmic bowling" and you automatically get charged for "mood lighting". Honestly, I could do without the strobe lights and pop music mash-ups. If all you really want to do is play the game, then Colonial will serve you well, but if you are looking for a good experience, look elsewhere. read more

I love the new venue. I can tell there have been major renovations to this place since 2009. I came on a monday, martin Luther King Holiday to be exact and there was a great deal. bowl for an hour and you get a pizza and pitcher of drink. I enjoyed my tiime and we were able to look at the time while bowling and see exactly what was next. the pizza was good and let me just say, i won against my family. there's also automatic bumpers that goes up for selected players. Pretty clean place! Came here on a Wednesday where they have a late night special after 9:30 pm (when lanes clear after league). The special is $16.99 per lane per hour with shoe rentals included. Also, a pitcher of beer is $11! The only con is that there's a connected lounge area where smoking is allowed. Totally triggered my allergies and my eyes started itching, watering and swelling because the smoke does carry through into the bowling area. The little arcade area is clean and my son played there while waiting for a lane. Games were all working and were pretty clean. That's always a plus. A weird thing to me though is the rule that 6, 7 and 8 lb balls are for kids' use only (that's what it says on the rule board). Many adults I know play with 7 and 8 lb balls (females). I get it if it was "reserved for children to use first" but it said "only." We went to get a 7 and 8 lb anyways, Bc heck, the other ones are too heavy for my friends and I. They didn't say anything to us though, so I'm not actually complaining. I said "weird." I'd definitely return! read more
