Super fun tour!!! Joseph was our tour guide, and was super fun. You could tell he was very passionate about ghosts/ghost hunting, entertained us with great tales, and and knew a ton about the historical landmark. He even used my sister as an example at the Hanging Man site because she had an EMF Detector (which I recommend getting) to show how "haunted" the area you're in is! It was off the charts when she walked under the tree he was hung at, and went totally dead when she walked away from it. Very intriguing and unique way of experiencing one of the most interesting (and haunted) historical sites in the US. :-) read more

Absolute garbage! Why did I waste my money on this. Talking about young girls in summer clothes being preyed upon. Gossip. Over the top ridiculous theatrics. Took 20 minutes to even leave the meeting place. Full of gimmicks like "emf" detectors. Which were conveniently all dead even though she changed the batteries. Ghosts sucked the batteries she says. Her phone going off so we had to listen to her single mother story for 10 minutes. This tour is a rip off. Do one of the actual Colonial Williamsburg ghost tours. Do not waste your money here. Promoting taking videos and photos of private residences. Just a hard no from me dawg. read more

The tour was OK but the guide walked so fast most people could not keep up n then he started the stories before everyone got there,so most of us missed the stories. Talked to a few people on the tour and they also were unhappy how fast he was walking (running). The group also had about 50 people in it. Patrick was a fun tour guide with a great array of dad jokes! This being our first visit to Williamsburg, we learned a lot of great history from the dark side as well as some good war history. We had fun hearing Williamsburg's history and sometimes eerie past. Earlier in the day visited Colonial Williamsburg to tour some of the old homes and sites, and then returning at night for a different perspective Emily was our guide and did a wonderful job describing the town's gruesome past. She had quite a large group and half were teenagers. She did a great job keeping adults and teenagers engaged throughout the tour. I recommend the tour extension. It's not much more than the regular tour and you get to see and hear about additional sites. read more

We had a great time. Patrick was a great tour guide. I was worried it would be scary for my 10 and 12 year olds but it was very family friendly and they had a great time. My only complaint was we rented the EMF device and they said they would tell us what to do with it and they didn't. Ours did get two lights a couple times and a red light once but even when that was happening Patrick didn't seem too interested in it. I would definitely do it again. read more

Honestly the worst tour possible. Do not waste your time or money. Half the tales we were promised on the website. Ran through the tour even though I'm physically disabled (veteran), just cheesy and seems to be ran by college kids. But then again a Hamburger costs 18 bucks in Williamsburg so maybe it's right in line read more

We had such a great time on this tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and super animated. The regular tour is short, at about an hour and the extended tour is about an hour and half. I highly recommend this company. You can even rent ghost hunting gear! Well worth it! read more

We did the 10 pm tour and there were about 30 people in the tour group. The tour guide seemed like a nice girl but she was not very charismatic and it felt like she had memorized a script - cheesy jokes and all. Our tour was 90% Williamsburg history and 10% actual ghost stories. The ghost stories she did tell were pretty cheesy and not at all believable. It would have been more interesting to hear a more personalized tour rather than a bored script. The tour should be called Williamsburg After Dark and not Colonial Ghosts because it was just historical stories at night. read more

Hannah was great. It was a ghost hunt and unfotunately we had one woman who disrupted the entire tour. Once she left, we went to another spot and actually saw lights go on and off at our request, a camera go berserk with lines up and down, and Thomas Jefferson statue move and blink. My family and I were taking the ghost tour Tuesday evening (7/21/20) when, just as we reached the second stop, a severe thunderstorm broke out. Everyone headed for their cars. I would be surprised if anyone stayed with the tour guide. We came prepared for rain, we all had umbrellas, but this was beyond a rain storm. It was pouring rain and lightning was crashing all around us. This tour should never have started as the thunder and lightning was all around us as we were gathering for the tour. Since Tuesday I have emailed the company, posted a message on their web page and tried to call them. They have not acknowledged any of my attempts to contact them. Finally I have disputed the charge on my credit card, maybe that will get their attention. read more

Our guide, William, was excellent! He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the area, and other history in general. We went over on our time because he had so much to tell us! (which was fine :)) I would say that the heavy history focus made it seem more like a regular tour than a ghost tour, but the ghost stories were interesting. William was very engaging and perceptive to our small group of two. It was lots of fun! rated 4 stars because the tour started at 10 pm and went past midnight, which was fun but I was very tired by the end. It might be better if the extended ultimate tour was offered an hour earlier :) overall, it was great! read more

I don't know about ghosts, but the tour added to our Williamsburg experience. Buying the tickets online was easy. They divided the group in two at the meetup point and I am so glad we had William. He was amazing and entertaining beyond words. His interpretation of the events and delivery was outstanding. Gary was fantastic. It was a FRIGID night, and although we were struggling to stay warm, the stories were fantastic, and the ambiance is creepy, especially on a quiet winter evening. So if you know me personally, or if you regularly read my reviews, you may know that as a seasonal job I give ghost tours in NC. So I enjoy taking these tours in other cities too. I've had some weird things happen on my tours. And something weird happened on this tour too. We were at the Peyton Randolph house, which was ranked one of the top 10 haunted spots in the entire country. Over 30 people died in this house. And on top of that, it is built on an Indian burial ground. Talk about setting the scene. So anyhow, I was taking some photos and my phone had been charged to about 75%. After taking just two photos, my phone went completely dead. The energy of the place drained my battery completely. Now, I am not crazy. In fact, I'm somewhat "ghost agnostic". I have to see things to believe them. And I am reluctant to believe a lot of things. More than anything I take (and give) these types of tours because I appreciate the stories and the history. But I firmly believe there is a certain energy that surrounds some places and zaps all energy from other people/objects/things. I've had this happen once before, while taking a ghost tour in PVD, RI. The guide warned us that our batteries may die at one particular site. Happened to me there too. And sure enough the battery came back once we got a few blocks away from where we had been. I happened to have my portable charger. I plugged the phone into that once I got back to the car, and....lo and behold, it went back to about 75% as soon as I plugged it in. Didn't even have to wait. But the entire tour, beyond just this was interesesting. I learned years ago in grad school that William and Mary is the oldest college in the US. So there is BOUND to be lots of history here in Williamsburg. Great job, Colonial Ghost Tours. read more

We very much enjoyed our tour. It was one of the last things that we did in Williamsburg before heading home and it was the most memorable. We enjoyed learning more of the regular history as well as more of the intense and dark history. It was a way for us to feel more connected with the past. Colonial Ghosts is a very informative, fun, and interesting tour in a very beautiful historical town - Williamsburg. Dylan was a great tour guide full of knowledge and a few cheesy jokes (but who doesn't love those once in awhile?) We had a great time and Jessica was a wonderful tour guide. It was a lovely evening in Williamsburg and the walk was not too long and pretty informative. We didn't se any ghosts but the kids were a little spooked. All in all, it was a good time and the group was not too big so that everybody was able to gather close and hear what was being said. I have been on a few ghost tours across the country, so I feel like I can now do a fair comparison. First, everyone will tell you that it all depends on the guide. We had a terrific guide but, I must admit, I am writing this review a month later and have forgotten his name. That said, he was an incredible story teller. I loved hearing the stories, and my 10 yr old nephew clung to every word. He was legitimately creeped out. I try to go on ghost tours in each city I go to. I don't know if I believe in ghosts or not, and I've never seen anything, but I love hearing the tawdry and seedy stories and histories in each city. I thought Colonial Ghosts was great. Mike was very knowledgeable and was able to expand on the stories through what he heard from his grandfather growing up. Mike managed to teach us real history of the city and tie that to the ghosts that might be there. We took the extended tour through the William & Mary campus. No, I didn't think it was scary. I haven't been on a ghost tour that I think is scary. It's not a haunted house, nothing will jump out at you. The stories aren't terrifying. It's just really interesting stuff to learn about how pretty much everyone who lived in the Peyton Randolph house died, or how Blackbeard's crew member was hung from this tree, and swore revenge. It's a city full of history and frankly, deaths, thanks to the American Revolution and Civil War, so there are lots of possibilities for ghosts, if they exist! I didn't see anything. I thought I did, at one point at the Peyton Randolph house - a green light kept lighting up a window. But it turned out to be someone on the other side of the house taking a picture through the other window :) Some other reviews mention the price, and I really didn't feel it was ridiculous. As I said, I've been on tours in many cities, and $13 for an hour or $18 for an hour and a half (though I think we were out there about an hour and forty five minutes) really isn't expensive. read more

I personally am a big fan of ghost stories, urban legends, and reported haunting and we were so excited to see these tours were being offered in Colonial Williamsburg as we were visiting on vacation. We were greeted by our tour guide Michelle, who was bubbly, friendly, and just as excited to give us the tour as we were to take it. Our group had about 20 people, which made for a nice intimate setting. Michelle was fantastic, giving us the proper warnings ahead of time (watch for horse "presents", be careful of uneven sidewalks, etc.) and her storytelling was captivating. I found myself hanging on her every word. The tour was easy and accessible for everyone, Michelle's pace was wonderful, her personal accounts very interesting, and we could not have asked for a more beautiful evening. After the tour, we even stopped to talk to Michelle a little about the surrounding area. She was so kind, incredibly knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions. Overall, my husband and I were really pleased with our experience with Colonial Ghosts and Michelle. Because of this experience, we plan on doing more ghost tours in the future and taking our friends to join us! Keep in mind that this is not a "haunted house" experience - things won't necessarily jump out and "scare" you and nothing is staged. This is an experience for people that like history, good stories, and a fun evening. I personally didn't feel or see anything strange, although the full moon definitely gave the evening a spooky vibe. read more

My partner and I enjoyed the ghost tour. I recommend not reading up on the website about the details about the stops on the tour. I hate previews and I think I put a bit of a damper on my experience by reading stuff ahead of time. I don't think other guests on the tour should use the "spirit box" app because if it is quiet you will probably be more likely to hear unusual things like the tour guide speaks of people hearing at these sites. The spirit box app was just annoying - quiet can add to the spooky ambiance. The stories were creepy and very interesting to hear. read more

No way to contact the tour guide or anyone. THEY DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS IF YOU ARE AT THE START AND THEY DO NOT SHOW UP! there is no mention of this refund policy ahead of time. My partner and I were sitting by the tour starting point for 30 minutes and no one showed up. There is no accountability and this whole experience screams of SCAM to me. Numerous other reviews reflect my experience and just get snarky comments from the organizers assuming that they were late without asking if they were. read more

An all around fun experience! This isn't a haunted house and nothing is staged, so don't go in with an expectation of a living version of Thirteen Ghosts. You MAY see some things that you can't explain, but more than likely you will just have a fun late night tour with an interesting insight to the darker lore of colonial Williamsburg. People used to theatrical tours may find this tour boring, but I preferred the "real" aspect of it and enjoyed the historical accuracy. It is very fun to go see the houses in the daylight afterwards and read the sanitized history given to tourists. It's a little pricey for a walking tour, but the price is in line for the area. You're paying for a fun one-time experience and it's worth it. I recommend the basic late night tour but can't comment on the other options read more
