Hard to locate office, no parking, reception staff don't look at you, they look at their screen, ask your name and hand you an electronic information pad. Intake person impersonal and indifferent, clothing and shoes look filthy, Dr. unhelpful and self serving. Front desk staff is very rude and unprofessional. I see Christine, she is one of the PA and she gaslighted me the entire time she sat in her chair charting instead of doing an exam. I went in with shortness of breath, low pulse, palpitations, head pain and she could not get herself out of the chair to address any of my problems and told me perhaps it is allergies or sinus infection and could give me abx. I explained to her that I was on prednisone for a week and had a decreases in my heartrate, blood pressure, insomnia, increased urination which can be signs of negative side effects and she said that since I was heathy in July at my well visit and bloodwork was fine that she didn't think it was necessary to do any bloodwork. Dr. Google is 100 times better than seeing Christine or Kristine (PA). I do hope she isn't charging my ins anything other than a limited exam since she barely got herself out of her chair and the entire visit was her gaslighting me and charting. They also failed to call in one of my prescriptions or order the scan i requested after she just wanted to throw an abx at me without any exam or diagnostic workup. read more

Terrible. My daughter had been there before and given lung treatment for her asthma. She called to make an appointment because she had a bad cough and was thinking she had pneumonia. Not only did they make her wait until the next day to see her, it took 48 hours to read a chest xray and confirm pneumonia. They never called her to tell her, and when her pharmacy called to tell her they have a prescription that was how she found out. This has to be the most incompetent medical group I've ever seen. How can they do that to a patient with breathing issues? Is it really incompetence or do they just not care? read more

So I have been a patient here for many years and I've been on anti depressants for most of those years. Today I found out through my pharmacy that I was getting denied on refills. Come to find out the person I was seeing had left this practice as many others have done lately. I've had to find a new person to see here every 6 months roughly. They didn't notify me that this person had left the practice or that they were denying my medication that I will have terrible withdrawals from if I suddenly don't have any. Had bloodwork done by them and then they had it processed by Mary Washington in November 2022. Colonial provided Mary Washington the wrong diagnostics code and thus the bloodwork was not covered by insurance. I've gone round and round with them about it and have even gotten the medical administrator, Robert Bethke, involved. He called me one time and one time only. Since that time they have done nothing. They won't call the insurance company or contact Mary Washington to get this cleared up. All they need to do is provide the correct code and they won't even do that. Their billing/insurance department is horrible and the medical administrator (the boss) is of no help whatsoever. HORRIBLE service. read more

My wife and I had been going to Dr. Marrow for over 10 years. She always asked how we were doing, listened to our heart and lungs and asked if we had any problems since our last visit. If we mentioned some slight ache or pain, she was quick to prescribe some pill that would fix the problem. We were always pronounced in good health and she would see us again in six months. Well, we were not in good health as my wife died suddenly of a heart attack not too long after our last visit. Dr. Marrow listed the cause of death as "Coronary Artery Disease", three words that she had never mentioned in any of our semi-annual visits to her office. This practice is a joke. You are relegated to seeing a PA because the doctor is too busy to see his own patients. If you are lucky enough to be able to get an appointment with "The God" himself, you must have scheduled it months and months in advance. They push controlled substances like candy. The front desk receptionists are rude. The "lead" receptionist Tracy is a useless, ignorant and rude service worker. The office LIES about why the doctors or PAs are late, they lie about missing paperwork and they lie about not receiving prescription requests. The whole practice is only concerned about taking on new patients and doesn't take care of existing patients. Rare to find a Dr that remembers your name, let alone your friends & family and what you have shared and checks up on you. The care is excellent, but try getting anyone on the phone. The front desk is overworked or just short staffed...voicemails go unreturned, the patient portal is not updated with any regularity. I've been waiting to talk to someone for over 12min (they disconnected me twice by accident). It's a tough way to run a practice during a time where phone calls and telemedicine should be the norm. No rating isn't an option....or I would give a HUGE 0. What I experienced today was uncalled for and I will spread the word about this office and how they handle "business". Today I tried to make a new patient appointment with their office. Tried is the key word, I'm glad it didnt work out, & that their front desk showed me their true colors and even more so the office manager of the Fredericksburg office. I went to lunch today early because I work the same medical hours as their practice and have a hard time making appointments. I called them 20 minutes before they closed for their lunch and not once not twice, but 4 times was hung up on. I could hear someone at the front desk pick up the phone and hang it up. After much frustration I called back and asked the speak with the office supervisor. I was asked to hold And then was transferred. A gentleman picked up the line in an extremely monotone, unproffesional voice with a basic hello..... I proceeded to tell him my experience & I stated "I Have been trying to call for the last 24 minutesAnd have unsuccessfully reached anyone because the front desk continually hung up the phone 4 times on me. I work in a medical office myself and understand that it's 20 minutes before lunch but this is my only time to make appointments. I will not be making an appointment with your office at this point, but just thought you'd like to know how your front desk is handling your phone calls." After what seemed like a minute of dead silence.....the response back was not only shocking but beyond unprofessional for a so called office manager...Im still speechless really.... I kid you not: "Well ma'am, honestly we dont even want you as a patient since you work in a medical office and can apparently run one better or tell us how to run ours...." CLICK!!! He freaking hung up on me!!!!! So that's why the staff acts the way they do because they are allowed and being run by an unproffesional rude jerk of an office manager with ZERO customer service skills. Colonial medicine unfortunately does not come close to living up to the reputation it spends in automated message time telling you how wonderful they are. Trying to talk to a human provider is near impossible and leaving messages is a dice throw that they ever will get back to you. Latest example - I called Colonial that I self-tested positive for COVID, what should I do. An automated message said they weren't open yet and would open at 0800. However, the time I called at was 0818. I then called again to leave a message for the duty doctor. What I got was a lot of recorded verbiage but no doctor as that person was unavailable and to leave a message. The automatan at the other end then informed me the message box was full! The only thing that keeps me coming back to them is that my primary care PA is Christy McDowell. Colonial Medicine needs to tone their back slapping and pull their socks up on patient contact care. read more

I had FMLA paperwork that i had an appointment to get filled out. I was notified by the PA that she "doesn't typically complete FMLA for mental health issues, only physical disabilities". Furthermore, she refused to listen to my concerns and merely tried to shove more pills down my throat, as if me missing time off work(1 or 2 days a month, mind you) was impacting her paycheck. When i called later to file a complaint, JOHN in the "patient relations" department said "oh, so basically, you're upset because you didn't get what you want." I advise anyone with genuine medical concerns or complaints to AVOID CIMA AT ALL COSTS. read more

CIMA, Stafford, VA I was looking for a practice close to my home that took my insurance. I agree that the front office staff are not the most hospitable. I have had to wait on the phone and wait to see the PA. I am very satisfied with Kristie McDowell as my primary care giver. I have never seen a doctor and don't feel the need as long as I can see Kristie. I have had good luck with labs and being notified. The office has followed up 99% of the time. I had to call once and see if labs had been received. I also had to call to ensure that they provided labs results to other doctors that I see. The nursing staff are good. I enjoy interacting with them. My only complaint would be with the front office and they just aren't that personable. I have found that frequently in many medical offices here in Stafford since I moved here in August 2017. read more

Would give 0 as a rating if possible. Been waiting on labs for over 9 days when told it would take a couple. Customer service is apallingly poor. It's always "maybe we dont have all of your lab results ... maybe we do. Maybe we will call today, maybe we will call you tomorrow. No guarantee we will call you. Yes it's abnormal to have your labs results delayed for 9 days but maybe we don't have the ability to help you. The PA is out again today but maybe she has a computer to work from home. Maybe this other person can go over the results with you or maybe they can't. We can't release your results to you until they are reviewed. No guarantee when we will be able to do that."  I have had to call over 6 times just to keep babysitting this office. Never once did they call me to update me. They won't post my results online. They do not care about you as a patient let alone goodness forbid you have chronic conditions. Their joke of a 'manager' John stems from the same uncaring breed unable to offer a solution or a timeframe. He's condscending and apparently has no aptidude for his position nor diffusing customer complaints. He just says what they all say. We'll get to it tomorrow. If you love being treated like a 2 year old and want nothing addressed - Ask for that sh*thole.  FYA-You can not prevent me from getting a copy of my medical records. You provided a service I paid for. Refusing to provide my results IS a violation.  I filed a complaint with the state Medical Board. Poor customer service which is so horribly disappointing considering the initial visit was cordial. I gave them every quarter to do what should be done. But they continue to drop the ball and treat patients like crap meanwhile laughing their way through it all. I should also mention that they put my specialist referral in wrong despite me correcting them multiple times during the appointment and even initially booked me at the wrong location and made me wait over a month for the wrong location. I don't have a lot of faith that this office is sufficiently adept at handling primary care. Especially for individuals that have extensive health needs. Their excuse? Blame the amount of labs that are ordered. And blame the PA that works only part time. No other provider takes 9 plus days for labs. Period. Don't waste your time. I have been a patient for several years and have had care at both locations. I have seen Dr. Marrow, several of the PAC provider's, Kristi McDowell PA and my husband has seen Dr. McDowell. Always very professional, never had to wait long and feel like all our concerns were addressed. Nursing staff have always been friendly and return my calls in a timely manner. Love that we can get our labs drawn there so don't have to travel elsewhere. I can always get seen quickly if I have a problem and that's really important to me. Usually a long wait even with nobody else here...I have yet to be treated by a doctor and this is my third visit. I usually see the physician assistant, that does a great job, but is still only a physician assistant. Hopefully I'm not paying the regular doctors fee for an assistant. Lastly, my last two visits I have waited an average of an hour to see a doctor...oh sorry, physician assistant. The most recent visit took over an hour thirty minutes to be seen with under 5 minutes of that dedicated to check in and vitals and ten minutes dedicated to the actual visit...ridiculous!!! read more

Go here at your own risk. This practice is apparently way too busy to create a strong business relationship with new patients. A back injury two days prior led me to seek out a Primary Care Physician in my area. I recently moved to Stafford, so I had no idea who in the area to go to. I went to this facility based on the physicians my insurance listed on the website as far as network providers were concerned. There were so many to choose from, and I ended up choosing this facility since it is right down the street from my home. Biggest. Mistake. Ever. The ONLY positive thing about this office was the nurse who checked me in (though she didn't really have much of a chipper attitude) and the Physician's Assistant herself (and even she left more to be desired). My appointment was scheduled for 11:00am; I wasn't even seen until 11:40. She asked me some quick questions and ran her hand up my back a couple times and then said she agreed with my thought that my pain may be muscular as I had suspected. She gave me two prescriptions and then I was on my way. I had to run my grandmother to some of her own appointments and wasn't able to get to the pharmacy to pick up my meds until after 5pm. Upon pickup, I was told my balance due was $143.00! The medications she prescribed for the muscle relaxant AND pain meds were not covered by my insurance, and I am currently unable to afford that kind of cost for my medication. Since their office was closed, I decided I would call them in the morning and get things resolved. In the meantime, I continued to take the less-effective pain alternative, extra-strength tylenol and heat application. Fast forward to this morning. I called at 10:30am and was told by the receptionist to talk with the nurse. She transferred me and I was prompted to leave a message and on the message it said I would be called back in 24-48 hours. Hello, I am IN PAIN! I could barely make it through last night, how the heck am I supposed to get through another one to two days?! At this point, my back is killing me even more than the days prior. I called the office back and told the receptionist that I can't wait one to two days for some relief of this pain. She tells me again she will patch me over to a nurse. Again, I am forwarded to an automatic message saying for me to leave a message and someone will return my call in 24-48 hours. I decided then to leave a message. Around 1:45, I called back again just to check in and see if anyone was able to get my message to the PA yet. The receptionist Noelle told me in a snarky tone "well, she is seeing patients right now, so she hasn't been able to get to her desk. When she is able she will listen to your message." Understandable, I work in the medical field myself. HOWEVER, patients at my practice never have to wait one to two freaking days for a prescription, espeically not when they are in pain! Not to mention, I was a patient of hers YESTERDAY and I have still not been able to get the treatment I deserve like everyone else. I told her I would wait a while longer before calling back. Fast forward to 4:17pm. It has now been almost 6 hours and I have had no call back, despite me calling and explaining I am in extreme pain and need medication badly. Even if it just takes the edge off; the tylenol isn't cutting it anymore. I called and this time spoke with the triage nurse. At this point, I am just about begging for her to expedite this process, as it isn't my fault that the originally prescribed medication was so expensive when there were several alternatives that the PA could have prescribed for me that were a fraction of the cost. She tells me she will get right on it. I asked if there was any way for it to happen before the end of the day and she says "I mean, she's in appointments and we close at 5pm, so I honestly am not sure..." So now, another night of being in immense pain and now feeling tingling sensations in my legs and feet and around to my chest, but they don't seem to give one single care. Unless you are right there in the clinic, they could care less. I have never had such terrible, slow service at a doctor's office in my entire life. I will not be returning to this facility and have already changed my Primary Care Physician with my insurance. read more

My insurance company recommended this office, and it's near my home so I went. I had a list of "internet ailments" that were not the case. But I do have a chronic condition and I did receive treatment. The staff is very nice. I mean you can get a "tude" if you let them, but I've been working in a health care office environment for years and I know how to "shut it down". Repeat their rudeness in earshot and they will change their tune immediately, because as we all know, EVERYBODY is listening : ) no matter how "busy" people look. I went to the Doctor first, then the PA on my follow up. I liked both, but my doctor seemed disinterested in truly finding a reason for my ailment. I came because I was sick, and I got the impression she did not care/have empathy for my ailments. It is true, you will wait a good bit when visiting, but I think that is the norm with Providers nowadays. But the lobby was empty!! How can they not be ready to see me. Let alone the wait once you are inside the room. Remember, you can walk out and office cannot charge if the provider has not stepped in the room. You must stop at the desk and tell them clearly you are leaving, you don't have to give an explanation because of HIPPA but they cannot charge. It is reasonable to wait 15min but NOT an hour ++. Next visit I went to the P.A. and I was happy. I will continue to use this office for my care because it is very clean & neat. I just wish someone would water the plant in the waiting room...geez. read more

I have now switched to another medical practice. The Stafford office told the new medical practice they would not send my records over until my bill was paid in full .This is illegal they are not allowed to do this and once they were reminded of this they sent my records Complaints about the receptionist go on deaf ears . Twice Dr. Aiken made me wait a week to refill my prescription. My Family was with this practice over 5 years and this is how you are treated . I saw Caroline at the Fredericksburg office and voiced my opinion about Dr.Aiken she told me if you are not happy with our office feel free to find another one . So good luck if you go here . Having seen Dr. Szmiegel for over 7 months, I found him to be a doctor of many words, his words, and will not allow you to explain anything about how you feel. He will tell you how you feel, talk to you with his back to you, and continues to pound of this computer he is writing on. He is short, curt, and when you leave you have the same questions you came in with. He never touches you to see about swelling, and will only glance at anything else you have a question about. read more

I am really not happy anymore, I take a prescription, and when Laura Holloway prescribed it to me, she advised I would need to call and just stop in and pick it up. Well that's simply not true. I have had NOTHING BUT ISSUES since. I have spoken with the business manager and simply can not get the basic and simple understanding. I choose to drive from Woodbridge to Fredericksburg, continue to deal with the sarcastic, rude and totally unprofessional staff at the facility. Why?, I am a very loyal person, obviously to a fault. I do not like to continue to have to put my medical stuff out there to different medical people, and now, again I have to find another Dr. Why is it so damn hard for this staff to simply follow what the DR had advised me would be a very simple process..... Again, it WAS my choice to drive to Fredericksburg, I liked working with Laura Holloway and the relationship was easy and professional. If I could give 0 stars I would. I've been going here for about four years now, I orginally started with Dr Szmigiel, who was amazing, but moved out of country. All the girls at the front desk are unprofessional and beyond rude. I started seeing Mary Aiken's after Dr Szmigiel left, she is one of the worst doctors I have been too. She doesn't take her time and doesn't listen to your concerns, she is rude and thinks she knows everything. She will go out of the room and think she is whispering but you can hear everything she says and she will talk badly about her patients. read more

I can't speak to the quality of the physicians, but the person at the front office who discussed setting up an appointment was extremely rude. After she took all of my information and that of my husband, including our social security numbers, she said we could not be seen there because we had Medicare Part A. I have private insurance with my employer that covers all our doctor visits and labs, etc. - would only use Medicare A for the hospital as a secondary insurance, but clearly we were not welcome at this office. Regardless of all the qualifications that the providers may have, running an office with that type of staff and a policy that virtually excludes people over 65 is unacceptable. read more

I have been a patient of Cindy Marrow for a handful of years. At first it seemed to be the laid back caring doctor style office with a staff that was efficient and friendly. I noticed the past few visits that the office was becoming chaotic and the wait became longer. The old staff started to disappear and new nurses came and went. On my last visit when I was weighed, I was very excited as I have lost quite a bit of weight. The very young seemingly inexperienced nurse wrote my weight down for a 100lbs more than what the scale showed! Thankfully Cindy Marrow noticed this as it could have been detrimental if I had been prescribed a serious medication. I believe more wrong information has been recorded because when I left the office the last time, I did not receive a hard copy of my medication. They insisted I received it. No. Another mistake. If you decide to go to this practice, I would choose one of the newer doctors. But the healthcare system is changing and not for the better and it shows in this practice. Cindy Marrow is great for referring you to another doctor for expertise care by more qualified doctors. But if you get sick with the flu or an emergency situation.. u will either see a nurse practitioner or end up at the local Patient First. They are taking on too many patients. My 2 cents worth as a patient who went for a long enough period of time. Check your records behind the nurse!!! read more

I went there and really liked it until I went there and the PA wrote in my file I was there for something I wasn't, billed my insurance for that something I wasn't there for, my insurance doesn't cover it, and they won't correct the billing. I am retired U.S. military covered by insurance looking for a good civilian medical provider. Although Colonial Internal Medicine Associates advertises that they accept new patients they refused to give me an appointment "at this time" because the billing process is too complicated. When I asked why and when they might accept me, I was told that their committee review their decision every couple of months and may decide to accept retired military again sometime down the road. read more
