We own a little house built in 1958 in Colonial Heights. Working on this old house inevitably produces all sorts of fun challenges. We've used Colonial Plumbing & Heating twice now, and on BOTH occasions they were excellent. The first time was to clear a clogged drain in the bathtub. The second time was the big job that involved a full replacement of the bathtub fixtures. When I tell you they replaced everything, I mean everything. The mixer tap, cold and hot water supply lines, gaskets, retaining nuts, connectors, etc. The work was flawless and that's 100% due to Landon. His communication was excellent throughout the job. He first tried to fix the dripping faucet for us. When that wasn't possible, he communicated quickly with an updated quote and explanation of what was needed. Office personnel I spoke with on phone were incredibly polite and efficient. Service personnel knew what they were doing and performed the service I requested (a part replacement where I supplied the part) in less than 30 minutes. I only wish I'd known up front that Colonial Plumbing does not charge by the hour. Shame on me for not asking. I was surprised at how expensive it was and was told "this is the lowest priced task order we have." $287.50 which did include the trip charge. So . . . as long as the work you need performed is worth at least that much to you then you should be good - especially if you also use them for HVAC service - in which case I think they knock 15% off the price of their plumbing work. For what it's worth: We were only having the cartridge replaced in our kitchen sink (I already had the new cartridge). Colonial tells me their rate to replace the entire faucet and sprayer is only $10 more, but it doesn't seem I can apply what I've already spent on the cartridge toward the labor to replace the entire faucet - which is not surprising, since it will be a separate trip/task. (The parts are being provided direct to me by Pfister under their lifetime warranty policy, so Colonial isn't involved with that). read more

Colonial Plumbing & Heating was contracted to connect a newly installed vented gas fireplace. A previous gas approved plumber had been onsite and could not complete the job and did not show for two other appointments. Colonial Plumbing sent gas technician Carter Brink to evaluate & repair a close quarter connection and placement of an isolation valve and make the connection back to the gas piping. My wife and I were very pleased to see Carter arrive on time and exhibiting a cordial greeting first thing. Carter spent several hours making the repairs with a jovial and knowledgeable attitude. Carter exceeded my expectations as he was very systematic in his reasoning and exhibited excellent critical thinking skills to resolve the close quarter issue. Carter further exhibited "great customer service" by working through the gas fireplace dealer on the phone with a solution for pairing the remote control to the fireplace. I have used Colonial Plumbing & Heating for years to handle plumbing issues my tenants would have and they were always timely and reliable. Last month when we had that surge of rain, one of my basements flooded after the sump pump went out. Well, I called and I was told that they couldn't help me unless I hired another company to remove the water. IDK, but I assumed any plumbing company would use a submersible sump pump to remove the water and install a new stationary sump pump. SMH! As a landlord, I keep a wet vac and a submersible sump pump for emergencies but I wasn't about to accommodate Colonial Plumbing! I called another company and they came out and took 10 minutes to pump the water out into my back yard so they could install a new sump pump. After ur pump went down we needed to call professionals. We chose Colonial for their reputation and integrity. After installing the pump,they were called because we had air before the pump was installed & now absolutely nothing. Had this guys came to my house to fix my clogged toilet and bathtub and I regret not taking the warnings listed on the reviews. First of all the bathtub was draining slowly but it was still working. The first plumber came and attempted to fix it but achieved nothing and I was charged over $500.00 for the use of equipment and coming over my house. I called the office and was told a second plumber will come and fix it right this time for no extra charge, their best plumber supposedly. Soon as this expert arrived the first thing he looked at was the bathtub and proceeded to turn on the water, I would say about a %20 percent and of course that amount of water drains. He looks at me and said that it was working fine that the previous plumber fixed it, so I turned the water all the way up %100 and the water started to back up. He goes outside takes a quick 3 minute look, I don't know what he looked at in that small amount of time but he comes back in and says that I need to replace the pipes that goes towards the shower head which is the reason why the water is not draining properly and gives me an estimate of about $500.00 again... At this point just out of curiosity I ask if with this my problems will be solved and he tells me that in the plumbing business there's no way of knowing the exact problem that I would have to continue to make repairs into we find the problem and I imagined I will continue to get charged into we accidentally find the actual problem. I called the office and indeed they were planning on charging me over and over again. Of course at this point I said no, I could tell this were no real plumbers. I never got any of my money back for the first plumber who came and did absolutely nothing. Bottom line this people are just pretending to be plumbers. I had a leak on Thursday night and called Colonial Plumbing Friday morning. They could only get me in after hours. That was fine because I expected the issue to be fixed and not have to deal with it again. I paid an awfully lot for the problem to only resurface again not even six months later. It turns out their solution was only a band aid. I wish that I had known how they operate before I paid hundreds of dollars for the problem to not even be solved. Now I have to repeat the whole process again. This time I will be sure to use a company that doesn't rush in and out and rip me off. read more

A week later we had an awesome new instant water heater. The crew was timely, professional, and got done hours early. We won't hesitate to use them for all our needs. This company works after hours. And they are honest people. I called on the Saturday before Christmas. They have an answering service and the plumber called me back. I explained the problem and the plumber called my tenant to assist with the issue. By phone the tenant (with plumber's instruction) were able to do a reset on the Apollo hot water heater. The plumber did not have to do a service call; therefore, no charge. I will use this company again. I have also used this company for a stopped up drainage line. They arrived within two hours and took care of the problem. Can I give them 6 stars? read more

Paid these guys to fix a clogged toilet. First guy on site said he fixed it but there was still an issue when the toilet wouldnt flush. Called them back and the second guy said I needed a new toilet so had them replace that. Still did not flush correctly. They told me that I would have to put soap in the toilet every time to flush and just have to live with it like that. Called them back a few months later bc the toilet got clogged again. They came out and was unable to unclog it again and said I would have to just replace the entire plumbing stack under the house for $800. Said they couldnt come back out til 3 days from then to be able to replace it. The house is a rental with only one bathroom so it needed fixed immediately. Called another plumber company and they came out and unclogged the drain with no issues. They laughed about the part about the soap in the toilet which I find ridiculous as well. They even found the cleanout that I supposedly didnt have according to Colonial Plumbing. Not really sure the experience level over there but I more than likely wont call them back for anything. Their prices are also fairly high. I gave them 2 stars bc they did come back out to try and resolve the issue and the technician was nice over the phone. read more

The colonial heating did work for twice in 8 weeks and techs are professional and knowledgeable. First i had my hot water tank changed (50 gal) $1400. They guys were on time and replace the tank and made sure my water was hot before they left. Called again for their services...thermostat went blank and the tech Joe checked hvac and at first he thought i need an electrician after doing several test, over 1 1/2 hrs of diagnostic, finally as Joe was coming out of my attic he saw an emergency switch on the 2fl of my house was off and he turned it on and went back in the attic and sis further diagnosis amd the thermo came on bit still the unit wouldn't come on and he called Viki to schedule me another appt so he could come out yhe next day and hoping that the lead tech Carlos would be back off leave to assist. When joe came back the nexy day diagnosing again, checking the furnace board he called Carlos to see if he was in back in town and Carlos answered and asked for my address to assist. Carlos came to the house, check the wores on the furnace, red and green and a few minutes later Carlos said, Joe. Get the lady a thermostat. The thermostat was installed programmed and working. The techs went above 2 beyond to make sure my hvac was operating correctly. I will definitely called Colonial heating again in the futue. read more

I dealt with these jokers years ago trying to deal with a failing heat pump. They had a choice: Get 4500$ for a new heat pump installation or Get 80$ for the service visit where the tech shined a flashlight under the house and said 'its broke and you need a new one' They went for the 80$ and their sales rep who was in the driveway was so angry and upset as I told them 'Sorry you chose the wrong option Ill be accepting estimates from companies with business sense' **Can you imagine getting them to fix warranty repairs if they nickel and dime knowing they would get a bigger check in the end? read more

I called this company for plumbing service in early Jan. and they came out almost immediately. They said they need to order parts and would be out the next week. Never heard from them again. Called again in March and they said they were ordering parts and would call the next week to schedule the appointment. We are now two weeks out and I called again today and they say they can not get the parts to repair an exterior faucet and 1/4 to 1/2 adaptor for new water filter under the house.
