Colonial did a superb job in restoring an old king headboard to its original mahogany color and sheen. Back in the 1960s Mom had decided to follow the trend and had it "antiqued" -- essentially painted off-white with gold highlights. She'd come to her senses in the 1990s and had the 2 matching dressers restored to mahogany. And I wanted the headboard to match. Well, now it does. In 1970 my mother and I bought an armoire while living in Izmir, Turkey. We found it in an open market, called Konak. I was 10. After moving there, we found that the apartments didn't have closets.... I remember we paid about 25 lira. Around 5 us dollars. My mom passed over a decade ago and I've had this piece since. After sitting in a corner for 14 years, looking very cool, I decided to have it "fixed". The handy man I use nailed it, tried to put hinges on it and finally said I should just get rid of it. Not happy. I called Colonial Restoration and they drove out and gave me a very honest opinion and estimate. Today - October 14, 2016 I got my armoire back and it looks amazing. Not only that, but it works better than it ever has. The wood is silky and healthy, all the joints are repaired in the original manner in which it was made. I have a beautiful dinning room table that has three different wood inlays, it's oversized and unfortunately due to various spills, the top was badly damaged. I was told by other restorations companies the table was unrepairable and the only action was to trash the table. I was referred to Colonial, which was my last hope. The owner's son came to my apartment, looked at the table, understood the damaged and had a solution. They picked up my table, at no additional cost, delivered to their studio and the magic began. Several weeks later, the table was delivered to my home. Their work is more artistry than carpentry and it's museum quality. When my table was finished, it looked better than when I purchased it. My experience at Colonial Restoration was excellent and I will absolutely be going back there for whatever I need. I highly recommend this business. I emailed Dave (owner at Colonial) after I stupidly took a roommate's wooden dining room chair outside to give some guests a place to sit and forgot about it, leaving it outside, in the rain, overnight. By morning, it had grayish, whitish water marks and my roommate was understandably furious. I'm on a tight budget and was worried I'd have to spend hundreds getting it refurnished. I emailed several furniture repair places and Dave was the first to get back to me. He returned my email in an hour and said told me not to worry, he was sure he could fix it without refurnishing it. None of the other 5 or so businesses I contacted got back to me with an offer that would save me money and get the job done. The rest all gave quotes from around $200 and up. Dave immediately stopped what he was doing when I arrived and worked his magic on the chair, cleaning it, removing the white spots and making it look better than I'm sure it had in years. He was friendly, likeable and clearly a master at what he does. To top it off, he charged me $20, which was well within my budget. His shop is not much to look at -- that's because it's a work space, not trying to sell anything or appeal to customers. It made me feel like I found the right person -- someone who valued their work and knew everything there is to know about their trade. He takes on all kinds of projects, from very high-end restorations to cleaning water spots off an ancient old dining room chair. He also gave me a lot of tips on caring for my furniture at home -- turns out I've been using the wrong wood cleaner for years, and damaging my expensive furniture in doing so. A+++++. I took a simple, white vase to Colonial Restoration Studio because it suffered a fall and the lip was quite a bit shattered. I only had a few pieces, and I needed someone to pretty much fill in the missing parts of the lip. It has great sentimental value to me as it was made by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin (known as 'KPM' from 1763 on), and it was brought to me by my Army Flute-player husband who was sent to Berlin to play for the decommissioning of the Withdrawal of the Allied Forces from Berlin (after the Berlin Wall 'fell'). David at Colonial was very kind and not at all quick to encourage me pay him to fix up my vase. He explained what he could do and what would be problematic and how long it could take him to have it ready. I jumped at the chance to see what he could do. It did take a while, we talked on the phone a couple of times over the weeks, but WOW he put my vase back together. It looks almost like it was never broken if I study it closely, but on a cabinet, standing there, it looks just perfect. The shape is just as it was before and all I can think is that David is a magician! I am so delighted to have my vase back, and the charge was so reasonable that I could easily afford it! Beautiful 60+ year old Danish teak - worn, dried out, and broken. I brought my pieces to Colonial Restoration to see what they could do. I first had them repair a settee that was badly broken. They refinished it and through a partner service, the fabric and cushions were replaced with a fabric of my choice. It looks absolutely fantastic now. After that I took a coffee table that had a 30 year old black round water mark from a plant watering gone wrong, while the family was on vacation.... and he refinished that piece to brand new perfection! I was amazed! Now, I'm taking all the broken dining table chairs and the dining table as well as the two sister end tables to the coffee table. We heard about Colonial Restoration Studios through a friend who was very pleased with their work. Ours was not their usual restoration project. It was a banister repair. An accident occurred near the bottom of our banister where the straight end joined the curved piece at the bottom. A large chip snapped out and the banister was unstable. I called on a Saturday and Jarrod came out on Tuesday to analyze the problem and give us an estimate. He saw that there was structural damage inside the banister rail as well as the chip. We approved the estimate and he started work that afternoon. The banister cover with the chip was taken to the shop for gluing and he repaired the internal damaged railing at the house. The banister repair was complete by Wednesday and the banister feels more solid than it was before the incident. We have some antique projects which we will definitely let Jarrod and his father work on. We would highly recommend their timeliness and skill. We are still waiting to here from the first repairman we called. read more

I was extremely nervous handing over the middle 19th-century roll-top desk which was my beloved husband's pride and joy. It needed some serious TLC and I researched well before entrusting it to Colonial. I was delighted beyond words with the end result. There is great care and attention paid to restoration...the Misters Hawksford have no desire to "make it like new," but, rather, to make restorations while maintaining the integrity of the piece, and they accomplished this with great finesse. Although the desk was stripped down to remove a layer of shellac which had been put there by its previous owners, the color, when it was returned, was exactly the same -- a lovely golden honey shade. When the desk was returned and reconstructed (so I could see how it was done in case I need to dissemble it again) I was so delighted I immediately gave Jarrod two other pieces to restore! They also refinished and repaired my antique dining table and again they worked their magic and the changes were not at all noticeable.
