We had visited a few golden doodle Breeders online and in person, in state and out of state. We did a lot of extensive research. While Searching the web, up popped Colony Breeders. We called and spoke with Troy. Very friendly and informative. He invited us to come down to Galt , and meet his dogs (the parents) they were expecting a litter soon. We were quite impressed by the cleanliness of the property and how well groomed the dogs were! Troy and Katie we're very informative about their dogs and the whole breeding experience. The puppies were born April 10th 2017. We knew we wanted a female, so that was all we will see every time we visited (which was quite often). We were 2nd pick. I had an idea which one of two I was going to choose, the day came June 3, 2017...I got out the car and started towards the puppies and here she came running towards me... my perfect fur baby!! Our girl Karli, has been a life changer for us.. she is so smart and was potty trained to go to the door (very impressive). Bought a puppy from this breeder April 2018. Haylee is already dead at only 6 years and 4 months. She died of osteo sarcoma. Which has a largely based in genetics. We are devastated. Think twice before buying. read more

I was skeptical from the beginning. We love our pup but she's very sick and has a condition called megaesophagus. This is rare for her breed and especially for a puppy. Another puppy in the same litter had the same condition and he neglected to tell us this. She also had parasites in her ears which is rare in dogs as well. Overall, they were just not taken very good care of at all. He gave us the option to choose a puppy in the next litter but we knew if we didnt take her they would put her down. they need to be reported immediately I also wanted to say we asked to meet the parents. The dogs were crazy. Completely overworked and injected with steroids - their tongues were hanging out and they needed lots of water. They were pulling on the leashes like they just wanted to get away from the owner, not normal pulling. They really did not look well. They were not happy or loved dogs they were just used to breed. We couldn't even pet them. It was awful to see and very sad. read more

Don't get me wrong, I love my pup! I just wish they would have been a little more engaged during the process before I received my boy Petey. Granted, I will cut them slack as he was born 12/2/2017 which is right during the holidays. Just wanted a couple more pictures of him and it was difficult getting them to get good ones sent to usIt was pretty easy picking him and we were able to play with all the puppies left before choosing. They did offer us to come visit once before pick up so we could have an idea what puppy we wanted but because it was during the holiday season it was hard to nail down a date to do that. I do wish they would have had the mom and dad available to see and play with as well so you could maybe gauge how your pups temperament was going to turn out. Petey was healthy and rambunctious from the start. He is an F1b and his mom is Sheria and his dad was Cesar. He's super smart and well behaved at 2 1/2 years old. read more

We had the best experience with Colony Breeders. We had to postpone getting our puppy because of some personal issues and they worked with us until we were ready to add a new "baby" to our family. Our little Dakota is the best dog we have ever owned. She was house broken the minute she came home, super smart, happy and all around a "perfect" dog. We could not have asked for a better puppy. I keep thinking that we must have gotten the best of the litter because she is such a perfect dog, but I really think that all of their dogs much have similar personalities. It was an easy experience and we are thrilled with her. The Goldendoodle was a great choice because she is so extremely smart and a mix of two great breeds. LOVE HER!!!! read more

Colony Breeders are very good although communication can definitely use an upgrade. Put deposit on August 2020 Puppy was scheduled for January 2021 pickup. Ended up picking him in March. Can't blame the breeder about the pregnancy delay I guess, but we had to keep texting for information. The day of pickup/selection was very well organized and we didn't feel rushed at all. My kids played with 4 males (second selection) for half hour till they got locked to a puppy they loved. Pluto came home and was for sure nervous but ate and slept. He was almost instantaneously potty trained on day one other than a few accidents he has been perfect. He is a hungry little rascal and always gobbles down his food in 20 seconds. Extremely easy to train (even for a novice learning from YouTube). The coat itself is less poodle like and more retriever type. He is a puppy and needs daily combing and sheds on the comb. I would definitely recommend this breeder for good pups which are cheap (compared to everyone else we found), but definitely will go through some waiting jitters. Unsure about these breeders. We have had our pup for almost 5 years and he is being put down today. He has a spinal tumor and has already gone through another type of cancer. He has had intestinal problems, allergies, etc. He is so loved but has never been a truly healthy dog. Also, he is abnormally large. His parents were 45 and 55 lbs and he is 90 (slim) ?? I can only assume they lied about his parentage. He's not even 5 years old and we are having to say goodbye - absolutely devastating. Update: Vets at UCD confirmed his last cancer was most likely genetic. Just a warning - our dog's parents are still being bred by this breeder read more

Nothing but a great experience with Colony Breeders. The owners were extremely nice and friendly from the start. The property is incredible and the dogs are all beautiful and friendly. Our puppy is absolutely amazing. They clearly do some training before the dogs go to their forever home as our Rosie already knew to walk towards the door to go potty and was completely comfortable sleeping in her crate on the first night. She is super healthy and growing everyday with no issues what so ever. She loves every dog and human that she comes in contact with and has been nothing but great for us. I had a great experience with Colony Breeders. I was able to visit the puppies when they were 6 weeks old and Katie let me spend over an hour with them. She was super sweet and helpful. You don't choose your dog until going home day, and you get to pick based upon your reservation number.
