I came here and took what I would consider an endurance conditioning class with Cindy and her assistant Bridget. The class was definitely amazing for myself as we did court length warm ups including lunges, lunge twists, galloping, basketball drills as well as running. The class was thrown together just for us and I did enjoy the class. I gave a lower rating because there was limited modifications for the people in the group who were at a different place in their fitness journey. I saw many possible injuries as well as people becoming disappointed in themselves. Other than that everything was fun and I worked up an incredible sweat!! The facility appeared picked up and tidy but not necessarily clean which isn't a big deal to me because it's a gym with many amenities including: 3 outdoor tennis courts, indoor track, stretch jungle gym, basketball court, 2 lap pools, one indoor and one outdoor, saunas and jacuzzis in the locker rooms (separate so you can't relax with hubby), cafe, a cardio area, a weights area, several rooms for class instruction, many stretching areas, racquetball courts (no upper plexiglass back walls), private workout nooks for people who are self conscious, several seating areas and ample parking. They serve alcohol here which is weird and there were several people napping around the gym. The snacks and shakes appeared pretty basic and could fulfil a post workout craving. The people were all very nice. The leader of the tour seemed like she didn't know anything about fitness or how to tour a gym so hopefully you know your way around a gym! The cost is $126 for use of this gym only, there are time restrictions on the pool areas but they offer several greatly described classes most days of the week. It costs $156 for use of all facilities in the state. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Flatirons Colorado Athletic Club. The staff is extremely friendly, the club is so clean, the equipment is up to par, and the outdoor swimming pool is heaven. My husband and I actually almost left to go to the new Life Time Fitness in Boulder, but after one visit there, we decided it was not for us and saw way more bang for our buck at Flatirons Colorado Athletic Club . Also, I love the culture there. So many members and staff have become friends and acquaintances that I look forward to seeing every time I am at the gym. Keep up the amazing work, guys! If I could give zero stars I would. I've been a member for 36 years. When I arrived today there were no towels in either the men's or women' locker room. There was no way I could get a drink of water, other than via my hands under a faucet. I was told the little paper cups are on back order. Safeway? Costco? When I complained to the front desk person, there was still no way for me to get a drink of water! Consequently I became dehydrated and dizzy in a yoga class. My husband needed to take some pills, so also did so by using his hands under a bathroom sink. In the past when I've had complaints, the employee passes the buck to someone and makes excuses. For the fees we pay, this is horrible service. read more

I cancelled my membership in July. In October I noticed I was charged again in September. I called and their own employee said they would correct the mistake on their end and agreed that I should dispute the charge, which I did. It's now December and these thieves are still trying to charge my credit card. They even provided fraudulent documentation to my CC company to fight the disputed charge (the one their own employee recommended). These people should be in jail. read more

We've been members here for many years. We like the swimming pool access and convenience since it is near our home but since the 30th street club closed at the end of last summer and Flatirons has taken on the members from that club, the place is not sustainable. The facilities have gone down rapidly (the indoor pool has been closed quite a lot over the past month for much needed maintenance), it is difficult to find parking and the swimming pools and locker areas are way overcrowded. In general, swimming pool access is very limited for casual swimmers due to the extra classes and advanced swim groups taken on from the other club. This used to be a place where a person could look forward to having a decent workout because of the once flexible scheduling. Now availability especially for the swimming pools is very limited. read more

This was a locally owned, reasonably-priced gym called Flatirons Athletic Club. It was fine, but needed some renovations and refurbishing. Colorado Athletic Club bought it and did a major overhaul. And of course, they jacked the prices WAY up. It's nicer now and the equipment was great when new. That was several years ago now and it's getting run down again. The biggest problem is they just don't take care of their equipment. Scarcely any piece of equipment is in proper order. I use the elliptical machines a lot. Every year I go through their machines and catalog the issues each has (grinding pivot joints, slipping belts, etc). They have never fixed any of them. They really need maintenance from the manufacturer, but the gym is unwilling to pay for it. read more

To tgis day I still get promotional texts several times a week no matter how many times I report them as spam. I get phone calls and emails as well. I was staying at the nearby Homewood Suites and purchased a day pass for this gym ($12 for hotel guests). The staff couldn't have been friendlier and the facilities were spotless! They were undergoing renovation, so they moved the free weights and some of the machines onto the basketball court. Not an inconvenience for me, and I bet it will look great when they are finished. They have plenty of cardio machines, an indoor track, indoor and outdoor pools and very nice locker rooms. Full sized hair dryers, sauna, steam and whirlpool. Review is for the swim teacher for little kids. Overall disappointing service and lack of professionalism. She would cancel our appointment or move our appointment time with less than 30 minutes notice. That means we would already have left for the appointment itself only to get there and have her say "I sent you an email." This happened multiple times. She was overall a dour person and it did nnot seem like she liiked her job very much. The final straw was when she started ending the lessons early and I felt I needed to keep a timer on to keep her honest. This would often occur when the pprior child's lesson ran innovation our lesson by 5-10 minutes theN she would want to end our lesson on time. read more

No compassion from their gyms/managers. I brought in a substantial group of people many times, was actively paying for 2 people per month at both the Boulder and Flatirons locations (dual membership). Then I went on what was supposed to be a 2-3 week business trip so I did not think of cancelling my membership. During that trip my schedule changed and I traveled henceforth for 3 months. I tried cancelling my two memberships from abroad but they would not let me. Said that I had to come in in person. When I came back in from my trip, I went to the gym and cancelled. I explained my story to the manager but only got a well-dressed, fake sympathetic 'oh that sucks for you!' (i'm paraphrasing) -- I had to pay over $700 for not having used any of their facilities or services for 3 months! I came in to cancel a couple of days late for my 30-day notice so not only where they unwilling to waive the fees from the previous months, they charged me for the entire following two months as well for both dual memberships, knowing clearly that I'd be moving out of town and would not be using any of their services. Two months later and I Just got a bill in the mail stating I owe them another $131 on top of the $700+. I spoke to someone on the phone and again no interest shown or ability to help forgive these expenses. I thought Colorado Athletic Club was a customer-oriented family-friendly gym membership with reasonable principles. But apparently when you sign up with them it's like getting a new mortgage. They take themselves way too seriously and although they will look nice on the outside, be dressed well, have a Colgate smile come your way, the underlying vibration of this company lacks heart and sincerity. You might as well get a membership with the IRS. I do not recommend going there and supporting this gym for the underlying energy of their facilities is highly corporate and lacks customer care/sympathy. Have a nice day you all. I've been a member for a couple of years and I'm not satisfied with the gym. The staff is super friendly, but there are things that aren't great. My family loves going to the pool, but this summer there is never a lifeguard on duty and the baby pool is usually dirty. Also, they charged me twice for a set of swim lessons and we had to call Wellbridge billing three times to get it sorted. They never called us back so we had to keep contacting them. Again, I love the staff and the teachers, but it's not worth the amount of money for what you get. read more

Inquired about transferring as I moved to Denver and was told by a staff member "You'll have to go to the other club to find out their rates / etc. but my best advice is don't EVER cancel with us because it's a real pain" .. I provided 30 days notice per the agreement and the parent company, WellBridge Inc., still tried to come after me 4 months later for ~$400 with all of these late fees and CC declined fees (they conveniently waited 4 months to let me know this). They were extremely rude and said I was being referred to a collection agency (never have had this before in my life) and they hung up on me. Fortunately, I saved my emails -- if you do join, give them a copy in writing and save it when you cancel, and contact the corporate office when you cancel. Their communication is abysmal / non-existent. Furthermore, they never acknowledged my extra $15 off a month I was supposed to get through my healthcare, and they made the process as difficult as possible and blamed everything on my healthcare provider -- when I reached out to my provider, I found out that they had never even been contacted! After investing multiple hours over multiple weeks, I admit that I finally gave up pursuit of this discount (exactly what the gym wanted). While I was there, we were kicked off the basketball for a high school Volleyball team, despite the fact that basketball had been going on at that time for YEARS. Showers were constantly out of order and there was only 1 shower in 10 w/ good water pressure. My understanding is that it used to be better but now it has a very corporate feel and I would recommend finding somewhere else: I can honestly say this is the worst experience I have ever had with a gym (and I've been a member of ~8-10 gyms in my life time). They will be the nicest people in the world to you until you sign that contract, and then you're just another number to be collected from. read more

WAY over priced. I've lived in LA, DC, and NYC, and for what you get, and considering this is Boulder, the price is a joke. 24 Hour fitness is a quarter of the price, has a weight area that's easily 5 times the size, with just about the same, if not better, equipment. I'm not the biggest fan of this style of sports club, but even so I've been a member at several that were less expensive but far nicer and bigger. read more

I am surprised Flatiron Athletic Club has not been reviewed more! Its a great gym and has all the amenities for a good workout. I have been coming here for years and I think its the best gym around. The whole set up is perhaps not as swanky or new as the other gyms in town or nearby but I can't seem to get a good workout at the other places. The clientele at FAC is either a bit older or are triathletes. They have a small, warm indoor pool with a hot tub and a nice outdoor pool that is open year round with multiple coached swim workouts during the day. Sometimes there are coached kids workouts so its best to check the schedule before coming in. Some times the gym gets crowded like at noon or around 5pm. They have an indoor running track thats not too big but useable, a free weight area, a bunch of treadmills and spin bikes, machines, racquetball courts, a whole spin room, a yoga room, stretching room and a basketball court. There is a corner with bumper plates but there is only one lifting station so you have to share. FAC also does personal training and though I haven't ever done a session, the trainers look nice and knowledgable. There is a little cafe in the middle but its kind of expensive and I would prefer a better choice of smoothies. Also there is childcare on site and I have heard its really good but have no personal experience there. read more

I have been back for spin, Barre & dance. Everyone has been very conscientious in keeping the gym as safe and welcoming as possible. So far spin class has been full, but people are going by the rules, helping each other and instructors very good at maintaining standards. Hope additional spin will be offered soon. Great community feeling. Wonderful heated outdoor pool and an indoor pool. Great swim teachers for private or group lessons of all ages. And a lovely outdoor space to lounge in the summer and soak up the rays or have a picnic. Quality instructors -- Skip the yoga membership at a fancy studio and get high quality yoga at CAC- Bikram's, Power, Flow, Gentle - any variety to suit your mood or inclination. Personal trainers are experienced. The spin classes are often full and so the group vibe is excellent. The gym is grounded in community service and thus offers a free Parkison's spin class to those fighting PD. The Cleveland Medical Clinic is doing cutting edge research with the Parkinson's spin class! Personal preferences - I like the wide variety of age groups at the gym, the place has a calm and grounded vibe. Get Free coffee or try the "green" protein drink at the bar. If you have kids as I do, this is the place! They have a great child-care center. I love Mary Lou, who sometimes braids my daughters hair while she is in care. The locker room and facilities are worn. The sales reps and personal trainers were not pushy or aggressive. There seems to be very much a community like feel. While the CAC is a business, I don't feel like I am a walking dollar sign (ie; I am not constantly bombarded with new products or services as I enter the building to work out). The quality of spin and yoga instructors are very high (some of the same yoga instructors at CAC also teach yoga at reputable yoga studios). I love the convenient location. It is not so busy at night time. The saline pools are are nice and non-chemically. The outdoor pool is an added bonus and is open year round. read more

I have been a member of this club for 16 years. It used to be a warm and welcoming place. A few years ago it got bought by Wellbridge. Absolutely everyone, except the cleaning staff, who are really wonderful, left within a year or so. They updated the facilities, which was nice, and there are new lockers. If you just come in and exercise and don't ever need anything, you mostly talk to and know the kids who work there, who seem nice enough. (As someone else pointed out, make sure you document anything and everything in writing. I am sure that the only thing they care about is liability and money.) But, be warned. If you ever need anything at all or have any kind of complaint or need to talk to someone, you are pretty much out of luck. It's really really coldly corporate. It's all about numbers. It's frustrating when people simply tow the corporate line, defend every corporate decision. I am sure she will be promoted. I recently discovered that when our account changed over from one payments system to another and I had asked to have my kid removed from the account because he moved, they hadn't done it. So, we have been paying for him for a few years. I know who I talked to and when, I have notes, but rather than acknowledge in any way that they might have messed up, they seem to be blaming me for not filling out a form that I didn't know about. Do you ever have those conversations where you feel like you are offering reasons and the other person just keeps saying no - like they are a brick wall? After talking to some people, I sent a dispute email. (I think the strategy is to wear you down or make it too embarrassing or something.) I pointed out that it seemed that my only choice was to quit. After my impassioned email, I get "I do apologize for the frustration that you are feeling. I do see that you were offered a credit for 2 months of the cost for having your son on the membership." Brick wall. UPDATE: Someone finally called me. She had looked into my account, and it turns out that though my son was on the account, she claims we hadn't been paying for him. That was good to know (if true). They don't break out the bill, so if he is on the account, you assume you are paying for him. It's too bad that no one did this to begin with, it would saved all of the hassle and bad feeling. read more

Very friendly and welcome squash group during challenge court session on Sat a.m. Challenge courts also on Tues. and Thurs nights after work. Shower curtains in men's locker rooms have mold on them. Told them on Friday, but until Monday it only got worse! They don't seem to care.

There are things I like about the center and there are things I don't. Unfortunately, there are more negatives than positives. - Staff are not the friendliest. Especially the come and go general managers. Membership representatives never ever get back to your voicemails! Ever! - Machines are worn. I don't know how many times I notified the staff about the stair masters not working properly. Also, some stationary bikes are wobbly and two out of three rowing machines are not working well either. - There is no variety of equipment. - Changing rooms are stinky, especially toward the back of the changing room. - A lot of personal trainers are not there for long. I had two personal trainers I really liked working with but they were gone after a few months which was frustrating since it is not easy to find a trainer that you like. - I wanted to cancel my membership due to job change. One of the staff members asked me to put a hold on my membership instead of cancelling in case I come back to Boulder for work. So, that's what I did. After 3 months, I wanted to cancel again and they told me that I need to reinstate my membership, pay for a whole month, then I can cancel my membership. Basically, I was going to pay for a whole month and not be able to use it because of my location. This is on top of what I was paying monthly to keep my account on hold which was %15 per month. If they had told me this when I attempted to cancel the first time, at least I would have been able to use the gym for another month before I moved, until my membership is cancelled. I was very loyal to this gym despite their shortcomings but how I was treated changed the whole thing. They have great classes though, I should give them credit for that. read more

This is a review not about the facility, but about the horribly unempathetic people managing it. When signing up for a membership, I was told by the sales person I could cancel my membership at any time despite signing a 12-month agreement. However, when I tried to cancel my membership after six months, the Director of Sales refused. I'm happy to assume the sales person simply made a mistake, but the Sales Director refused to even acknowledge the misunderstanding and would do nothing to help me. Instead, he was intent on fleecing me out of six more months of membership dues, which are quite high at $117/month. For half that price, you could join any of the Rec Centers in the Boulder area and you'd be supporting better people at a better business. read more

If you are looking for Zumba dance class don't go here because they don't teach dance moves or put them together in combinations (Aminda, Shira). All they do is jump up and down, punch their arms in the air and shake their hips. You do the same moves over and over again. Its like 80s Aerobics class with no low impact option. Very bad for the knees and other joints. I have even asked for a low impact option and the teacher said it was too hard to do two options!! If you really want a great Zumba dance class go to Tracy's class or Sasha's funk class at CAC at 29th Street location. They teach fun dance moves and combinations. read more

This gym has the best hard core spinning teacher in Colorado (Brenda Maller). Unfortunately the equipment at this class is seriously dated and 90% of the bikes have serious problems. We have been complaining to them to fix them for over one year without any results (Monitors don't work, pedals release when they shouldn't, screws in the seats are too long - ripping our bikes shorts apart, etc....) Today my husband's pedal released while we were spinning fast and because of this he got a pretty severe cut all the way to the bone. It is amazing that is almost 2017 and this gym, where world class athletes train and just got thru a new remodel is still running their spinning classes with bikes in this condition, it is obvious that they have never heard of RealRyder Bikes, VismoX or a simple monitor wall were everyone can see their stats. read more

I am very happy with Colorado Athletic Club (the old Flatiron Athletic Club) in south Boulder on Thunderbird Ct. I was looking for a gym with excellent facilities and trainers and CAC has both. Their class schedule offers a wide variety of classes during the day and in the evening. My favorite classes are any one with Cindy, Sally, or Mary instructing. My overall fitness has improved since going to this gym and it is worth the price compared to other gyms (24 Hour Fitness, etc.) read more

Biggest Con: They have 1 water fountain in the entire gym. If you get thirsty/dizzy while using the amazing hottub/sauna/streamroom, this means you must crawl naked out of the locker room to find the single water fountain. The treadmills are in poor repair and often broken. The club has carpet in the locker room which gets wet and smelly. If you are in the shower when the toilet flushes you will get burned if you like warm, not super hot showers. In general, the entire club is deteriorating quickly due to poor design decisions and lack of maintenance. read more
