No bueno. The bushes are not tall enough here.

There isn't coincidence. I first discovered this location 2 years ago; I thought it should be added to the Yelp map. After I did a deeper search on desktop Yelp site, it looked like someone already started a biz page but not close enough to check in to (http://www.yelp.com/biz/colorado-county-rest-area-columbus). I always stop by whenever I go to San Antonio on my way home. I want to enjoy both natural and man-made beauties. It's a place to relieve and relax after heavy snacking at Buc-ee's 60 miles earlier. My recent visit wasn't so pleasant. On my rush trip home from San Antonio, I wanted to rehydrate my throat. But the restrooms were closed. That didn't make sense. Both sets of bathrooms, really? I asked the guy who was emptying trash bins. He was clueless, "I don't know. He has to come out first." I walked by the office, I didn't see anyone but heard phone conversation with urgent and worrying tone. The sign said cleaning. I think it was something more than that. Ok. Let me just move on. I tuned to my favorite radio station 100.3 from Houston and listening to country music going home. If you're westbound to San Antonio, check out its identical twin across the highway - Colorado County Safety Rest Area Westbound http://www.yelp.com/biz/colorado-county-safety-rest-area-westbound-glidden.

Very clean, no smells.... pleasant maintenance personnel. Very polite. Nice picnic areas, vending and a bench or two. Covered areas, truck parking. Parking lots maintained, no trash issues.

WOW!. I wouldn't think I would give a REST STOP five stars but after sitting, that's right SITTING, on I-10 in traffic with two kids, I decided I HAD to pull over. This rest stop must be the nicest in Texas. It had two sets of beautiful, clean bathrooms with AC. The picnic tables were numerous and covered from the sun. The grassy areas were well set away from the roads so I wasn't nervous when the kids decided to run off some steam. We also used the vending machines, which were well-stocked, and that's when I noticed a sign for free Wireless Internet Access. Are you kidding? Free internet in the middle of nowhere??!!!?

One of the sets of restrooms...very clean!

Really clean and well maintained rest area. They have two sets of restrooms, so if one is being cleaned, the other is open, and I swear they must clean these every 5 minutes, or nobody actually uses this place! There's a lot of green area, so if you need to get out and stretch there's plenty of room for that. Not sure if pets are allowed, but there may be a separate pet area. If not, please pick up after your pets! Leaving your dog's poop out is just gross. Very nice area to stop and take a break from the road!

Very clean stop. The grounds are nice and shady but the car parking lot could have been bigger. But staying so we will see.

This time instead of exploring their packaged snack products I thought about how much room we have left in our car and flying it home so I decided against it. I did buy 3 of their small cup size Blue Bell dark chocolate ice cream- for all of us but the cashier gave only one spoon. It tasted so good I had hubs go get me a large size one since I didn't eat a normal lunch and it was past 5 pm. While I waited in the car with the grandpup. I wanted to find some Bucee items for Doc since she's been our road trip driver plus made all the arrangements for hotels, tickets to parks, dinner show, etc. We all got different things: hubs got small bags of jerky, Doc got her favorite brisket sandwich to share with her Frenchie, a sausage on a stick and 3 peach cobblers for each of us to try. I like the large amount of clean restroom stalls plus soap. The cone of warmed sugary pecans and cinnamon bites were a sweet snack- finally gone from the first Buc-ee's a week ago. Before leaving Doc had us take a selfie and a nice gentleman also took a couple for us too.

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but... my last visit here was less than satisfactory. We grabbed lunch on our way to Houston. Our lunch consisted of brisket sandwich, chicken tenders & fries, and the three meat sandwich. I'm pretty sure their meat is not a true cut of brisket. Its consistency is like mush, and not like muscle fibers. There was nothing lean brisket vs fatty brisket. The brisket had holes throughout, making it look even more like an ultra processed deli meat or even lab grown. I was disgusted, to say the least. They also have ZERO options for people conscious of the ingredient lists. We bought popcorn and the bag was open at the bottom. I opted the top and it was super stale. I realized it was open on the bottom and the store game me a hard time about exchanging it. It's pretty clear the sealing process failed for this bag. We won't be shopping here anymore, nor will we eat their food. But if you're visiting Texas and come across one, it's a fun stop to pass time.

So my father being as old as he is has to stop every 60 miles to go to the bathroom, damn all that medicine he takes. Any ways....i decided to stop and stretch a bit while he ran in. Right when you get into parking lot it's free and clear of any trash. The bathrooms are located inside the rest stop building that has a small museum in it with snacks and drinks. There is even a kids play area right outside that is pretty solid. New and shaded area for a quick pic nic and a few nice trees with park benches underneath them. Now if you have the four legged family pet there is also a dog walking trail. I don't of course so I didn't check it out. I'm really impressed. It felt like I was in a huge park ready to enjoy some perfect scenery. If you ever need to stop and stretch this is a location I would suggest. It's definitely not like the scene in the movie "There's Something about Mary" with Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz. If you haven't seen this movie before sure to YT that scene. You will get the joke. Buc-ee's certainly embodied that, and then some. For starters, I didn't know there could be that many kinds of jerky. A jerky wall spanning one entire side of the grocery area competed with a stand serving their popular brisket sandwiches. The buck toothed beaver mascot is charming enough, but seeing it printed on everything from onesies to throw pillows to mugs had me wondering how big of a Buc-ee's superfan could one be? Apparently devoted enough to sustain an entire merchandise empire. The food ailes were just as robust. Branded pasta sauces, honey, spices, jams, and even bath and body products lined shelf after shelf. In a zombie apocalypse, you could probably survive stocking up here alone. I was most amused by lotion and soap scented like bucees praline pecans, one of their most popular snacks. The scent sounds cloying to me and I can't imagine intentionally wanting to smell like that, but there's really something for everyone here, no matter how niche the desire.
