After just landing at Denver airport, my dog accidentally caught his right rear paw pad on the end of the moving walkway (which will never happen again!). Blood gushing, rushing to get luggage & find urgent care nearby. Was traumatic since we are not familiar with this area for emergency dog services. Thank goodness for 24/7 availability, the wonderful Dr. Iris Schaitkin and her incredible staff went above and beyond to put me at ease and immediately analyze, x-ray, applies stitches, etc. All explained to me calmly and in detail. Fortunately mostly paw pad and skin - no broken bones or removed toes/digits. Discharged with antibiotics and painkiller. Receipts, summary pdfs emailed immediately. We were referred to CVSG for an urgent surgery needing to be performed on our pup and no local specialists were available for several days and he didn't have that long. Our Internal Medicine specialist referred us here and had spoken with them earlier and they were ready for him whenever we got there. He and I drove up from New Mexico and arrived in the middle of the night (about 1:30am). Everyone we spoke with was super kind and the doctor on call was knowledgeable, patient, and explained everything to us and what we could expect. While the overnight receptionist made for a very bumpy experience in getting deposits and being able to explain what I was signing, everything else about our visit here was nothing short of fantastic and our boy would not be here if it wasn't for them. He went into surgery later that morning and while they did forget to call us before they went in, I spoke with the surgeon afterwards who shared all the details of how everything went. He was hospitalized for several days and the morning and evening updates along with daily visits I had a lot of interaction with the staff. There were a few times when I was visiting him where I felt like they may have forgotten about me but they do get extremely busy when multiple emergencies arrive. Every single doctor was nothing short of amazing. Dr. Bush, Dr. McEntire, Dr. Wigley, Dr. Sender, and Dr. Ineson - thank you doesn't seem to be enough to express how grateful I am for the care that was provided. It wasn't cheap but I didn't feel that their prices were gougy in the slightest when compared to other emergency vet care places. read more

I cannot thank Dr. Amy Polage at CVSG enough for her incredible care! Our dog started acting strange just 10 minutes before our regular vet closed, leaving us with no choice but to head to the nearest ER. Dr. Polage was absolutely wonderful - not just with our puppy, but with us and our wallets, too. She was incredibly thorough, examining him three different times over two hours to rule out anything serious, all without pushing for unnecessary or costly tests. It turned out our pup just had a minor ear infection and a very upset stomach from trapped gas. Per Dr. Amy's advice, a little belly rubbing and walking did the trick to help him "fart it out!" We left with the right medication and immense peace of mind. Dr. Polage's kindness, attention to detail, and honesty mean the world to us. We had to put down our dog the other day here. Unfortunately what caused it was the medication the vet convinced us to treat her autoimmune condition after some steroids. We didn't know the medication could damage her liver to the point of no return. But apparently the vet didn't know either, that is until she decided to do some online investigating and saw that there were cases of this medication causing organ damage leading to death in a percentage of dogs. Shouldn't she have already known this before like from school and have told us of this directly before taking? This is a very serious situation, how could this have been so carelessly given? Well maybe it's about the money? The outdated education implemented at vet schools? I don't know. I heard the horror stories, we all have. We just don't think it's gonna happen to us until it does. Now we know to be cautious with vet prescribed pharmaceuticals and to go a more holistic approach first, leaving traditional vets as a very last resort. I'll say one last thing about this place. And I don't know if its the world we live in but this place and their staff have very low emotional intelligence and lack empathy. This became more clear on the day we took our dog in when we quickly noticed the entire staff was cold and like robots. Seriously what is going on with people today. Come on guys. Where is the genuine care? Where is the attempt to connect? These guys don't have it, they don't want to have it, but isn't that a part of the job? Maybe I'm wrong. But others energy can make such a difference and dogs can feel that. It was like there was no compassion just standard procedure along with a heavy charge. Like we were just another costumer arriving to send their dog off to heaven. Of course we were all too emotional to care about the staff being closed off in that moment but their energy and lack of true concern stayed with us and made one of the worst days of our lives even more worse. We also over heard a lot of miscommunication among the staff while in their back medical procedure room where our dog was prepped to be put down and this miscommunication they were having was about how they were medically treating our dog within the last hours. This made us feel like we had no confidence in their care for our dog and like no one was on the same page there. Definitely not a team. I wish we took our dog to a holistic vet for a variety of reasons including not taking that awful medication. She was only 9. Her autoimmune condition was treatable without the extra meds and instead with natural alternatives. She could still be alive today I can confidently say that. Now that we know better, we can do things differently to treat our animals health with less risk in the future. Or at least take our pets to someone with the right and most up to date education and basic compacity to care for others and their situation. I don't have the emotional energy to be angry it just really sucks. Every dog owner will witness their pet passing someday. I didn't take any pictures other than the patient but my dog was there from Thursday until Sunday for care. I don't remember names but the doc that called me Saturday night was incredibly kind and empathetic. Same with Dr Carolina on Thursday. Whoever called me Friday morning had poor bedside manner and I don't feel like she listened to me or my questions. They had donors on standby for additional transfusions if needed. They also allowed me time to visit with him on Saturday night. I could have gone as many days as I wanted but I felt like he needed rest more than anything. Bottom line is the saved my best friend and I cannot thank them enough for what they did. read more

Cvsg was recommended to us by VCA for an emergency surgery and cancer treatment. While not inexpensive by a means hey were less expensive than the surgery at VCA and able to get a specialist to operate in the middle of the night. We had a really tough and stressful time that they supported us through that the best they could. We did end up waiting quite a while each time we came in after the surgery so make sure you have block of time open. I was really grateful that they offer the ability to text the staff with questions during recovery and with their 24/7 hours. Very capable staff and specialists to support you here! read more

So impressed with the care and concern we received. I took my little dog in around 8:15pm on a Friday for a perceived potential emergency. We were seen right away and our dog was taken back right away (I know we probably came at a lucky time). Every single person we interacted with was AMAZING. I felt so comforted and so validated for bringing him in. I forget our check-in employee's name, but she had cropped/shaved hair and was so warm. Mackenzie our tech was THE BEST - made me feel like a not-bad pet owner and took extra time with us. Dr. McIntyre was very thorough with me and answered all my questions. Vet Amy Polage, assisted by Vet Ramirez, made materially false statements in their medical report regarding a wounded stray dog that I brought in for bandaging, and made materially false statements to a City Animal Control agency, kicking off a series of state events to use their power to enact retribution on me for turning down certain of their very costly and unnecessary recommendations. After we had cared exceedingly well for these strays day and night, providing them excellent care and love, I expressed frustration at this office for a five hour waiting period for emergency wound cleaning and bandages while separated from the dog, during which period they provided no care for the dog whatsoever and would not allow me to wait with the dog. I ultimately turned down the multi thousands of dollars of unnecessary treatment they recommended. Without notifying me, they then filed a report with Animal Control, accused me to Animal Control of not providing adequate veterinary care to this stray. They made false and misleading statements both to Animal Control and in their medical report. Those statements almost resulted in the dogs being taken from our excellent care to a pound, and hours of defending myself at the same time I was working a busy job and working with rescues to find a permanent home for the dogs. Amy Polage should be censored for filing false statements with no basis in fact. I would never take my pet to this vet and take that risk that you will be reported to the state if you turn down their lucrative and unnecessary recommendations or complain about the harmful and poor service here. read more

I brought my cat in because I was afraid she was blocked (stones in her urinary tract), which is an emergency. The veterinarian did a blood test for kidney functions (more than $100) that wasn't necessary, kept recommending an expensive ($300) lab test that also wasn't necessary in this emergency, and wanted to administer sub-q fluids even after I stated that I would give them at home. She repeatedly pushed back whenever I didn't agree to the treatment/test. This was the first negative experience I've had there - so disappointed that this doctor wanted to do so much expensive work that wasn't needed at that moment. I love that they are 24/7 and have had wonderful care in the past - wonderful care! Practice owner - please advise the doctors to listen more carefully to the pet owner and understand the dynamics of an emergency v. more routine care. It would be good to highly value the pet owner's knowledge/experience with their pet. My regular vet called this morning, and we had an appointment first thing. read more

My dog hurt his paw during a hike. They were super accommodating as he is fearful and can become reactive at the vet. They were patient with me over the phone, in person and even after the visit. Explaining everything in a calm manner, making sure all of my questions were answered and never seemed bothered if I asked them to repeat something. They were not bothered by my anxiousness at all and my dog even loved the nurse who worked with him! He never likes anyone at the vet's office I will forever come here!!!!! read more

Do not bring your pets here if you want them cared for. TLDR: I brought my dog here, they said she was fine. She was dead 24 hours later. I filed a complaint, they forgot to update/contact me. They won't refund you for a misdiagnosis or poor customer service, and they won't call you back if you complain. My dog was diagnosed with a back/hip sprain, and despite my instance that this didn't seem like a muscular issue (my dog was swaying and sometimes losing strength in her hind legs) they refused to do any in depth diagnosis. They took her out of the room to do their exam, then came back and told me she was fine. No x-rays, or any other options. Instead the vet kept laughing while explaining why my dog was fine and declined to do x-rays, but had plenty of time to try and solicit other types of service like physical therapy and holistic dental cleanings. My dog deteriorated quickly. As in paralyzed in her back legs and unable to control her bladder within 12 hours. After another emergency appt with a different vet, they said she most likely had a pinched nerve and spinal injury. They didn't feel the need to hide any exams or evaluations from me, and did them right there where they could explain what and why they were doing things. By 9 pm that night, my dog was fully paralyzed and barely able to breathe. I took her back to the other vet and they agreed it was time to put her down because she wouldn't make it much longer. When I complained to CVSG, they said they would investigate and follow up. They didn't. I called and left another message, was promised a call back same day. Didn't get one. They did call a day later saying they reviewed everything and didn't do anything wrong, and they're happy to give me DORA info to file a complaint with them. But no, they would not refund fees. They care about money, not customer service. read more

Do not take your pet here! Awful experience from start to finish. My dog was in respiratory distress. Waited in a dirty room with worn out furniture while the vet tech asked questions like "what are your goals today" uh, to make sure my dog isn't dying?? Then they took her to the back and didn't communicate with me for over an hour. Dr said he would send xrays out for review, send them to our regular vet, and call me the next morning. It came to our attention recently that our dog had a mass in her spleen and needed a splenectomy soon as there were fears of her spleen rupturing. We tried one place, but they were unable to accommodate our needs. However, props to them because they sent us to CVSG. At first, we thought we would not be able to get our dog in for another day or two. Then, we got the call and were able to get her in that night! They laid out the pros and cons of the surgery to make sure we understood the risks/potential risks. The communication was great before and after surgery. Our girl is doing very well. read more

Sadly, our experience with our 2 yr old Great Dane at this location was very poor. The positive and why I gave them 2 starts: after two days of troubleshooting attempts with our regular vet, CVSG did a panel of labs and ultrasound to discover that our dog had pancreatitis. The negative: the veterinarian who explained her condition and care plan used several words out of context and sounded like he was attempting to be more knowledgeable than he was...medical jargon and over explaining the situation with emotionally triggering phrases. " If this were my pet, I would....". Additionally, the day after we admitted her and she received her diagnosis, I called and was given a very dire and questionable outlook for her. After thousands of dollar spent between this visit and her regular vet in the previous days, we were contemplating euthanasia because we could not afford thousands of dollars more. The vet made it seem like if we didn't keep her in their care for the rest of the weekend, her odds of improving were poor. When we let them know we were considering euthanizing, they called me back and said that if I relinquished ownership of my pet, another organization could likely resume her care and then adopt her out (but I would not be allowed to know any further details about her after that decision). I was a mess and arrived to say goodbye to her, expecting to see her in a poor condition based on what they had just told me over the phone. She was brought to our waiting room with plenty of energy, no longer foaming at the mouth or lethargic. She kept hopping up to the window in the door as if she was ready to go home. This was terribly confusing, in light of what they had told me on the phone an hour before. I decided to take her home and take our chances with helping her recuperate at home. As another employee was preparing our dog to leave, she commented, "you're happy now, but you won't be like this at home". That wrapped up our emotionally and financially draining experience at this place. I hope they learn manners, nobody should have to go through this emotional roller coaster. read more

We took our little guy in when we was experiencing very labored breathing and CVSG nailed the diagnosis for his rare condition and got us on the right path to get further diagnosis from a local internist and cardiologist. CVSG set the expectation early that our cat would likely need surgery and having this information from the beginning of our journey allowed us to make critical decisions and timely get him the help he desperately needed! As his condition was rare we elected to have surgery at CSU, but CVSG was there along the way giving advice as we sought out options and maintaining our kitties condition until his surgery date. I am so grateful for the staff here! My dog has visited on two occasions and they provided excellent care both times. Most recently was when he has a stomach torsion and received a life-saving emergency surgery. The staff worked quickly to get him stable and took the time to explain things and answer all of my questions. My one yr old came down with diarrhea on Friday which worsened over the weekend and we took him in Monday AM. Two days later we were faced with a $3,000 bill and no firm diagnosis. They insisted it was viral and refused to do a fecal test. BTW, they can't do a fecal test on the spot -- they have to send it out and wait 24 hours for the results! Money, money, more money. We took him to our local vet today and after five minutes and a quick fecal test (and $200) later they knew what the problem was. This is not the first F up with CVSG but it will definitely be the last. They are QUICK to update you when additional funds are required but not so much when it comes to pup updates. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE! I did and 2.5 weeks later, my dog is now dead! This was actually the second time I took my dog to CVSG...I should have learned my lesson the first time. This place was recommended by our vet who does not do emergency care after hours or on weekends. Several years ago we took our beloved Olde English Bulldog (OEB) here when he suddenly would not put weight on a back leg. After a very expensive visit (with labs ad a x-ray), I was told he was overweight! After a visit the next business day to my vet and another exam and xray, we found out 1) he was NOT overweight 2) he had a dislocated knee. I chalked the gross misdiagnosis of CVSG up to not understanding OEB..... Fast forward to several weeks ago in July. My dog had an array of symptoms that came on fairly quickly. I was out of town and tried to have my daughter and sister take him into our vet. Our vet could not get him in the same day. He appeared to be having breathing issues so once again they recommended CVSG as they are supposed to know Bulldogs. My sister called ahead and they said bring him in it sounds like he is having a seizure. After being there and being told he needed several tests and possibly a neurologist we were then told CVSG does NOT have a neurologist on site!! Issue #1: WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU SAY TO COME IN IF YOU THINK HE NEEDS A NEUROLOGIST, YET YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE ON STAFF?!?! Absolutely ridiculous!!! We should have been told to go elsewhere!! So after several tests the "vet" told us she thinks this is most likely behavioral. SCREACHING in pain, right side head tilt, balance issues, heaving breathing, and heaving noises. Issue #2: BULLSHIT BEHAVORIAL DIAGNOSIS! None of those symptoms are behavioral. This was a dog with zero behavioral issues, he was not left alone or somewhere else. He was at home with my daughter who lives there full time and I was gone 2 days. So the next day our vet gets the notes and has us come in. They diagnosed an inner ear infection, based on the "classic" symptoms (meds were started). A week goes by and he is getting worse, we go back to the vet who recommends a CT or MRI. ISSUE #3: an MRI OR CT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AT CVSG INSTEAD OF ALL THE OTHER NON_SENSE STUFF OR AT MINIMUM THEY SHOULD HAVE STARTED AN ANTIBIOTIC OR STEROID! We scheduled a CT, but 3 days later my dog was completely unable to walk. I took him to Wheat Ridge Animal hospital, who were AMAZING, where they did a complete and thorough exam. They also thought inner ear but were concerned about all the symptoms and did a MRI. This is when we found a massive tumor that started behind my dogs ear in the muscle. There was no possibility of treatment and humane euthanasia was recommended as he was (AND HAD BEEN) in so much pain. ISSUE #4: MY DOG SUFFERED NEEDLESSLY bc CVSG DISMISSED HIS "SYMPTOMS" AS BEHAVIORAL. I am LIVID that I paid over $1k to be told that. I am LIVID that a CT or MRI or imaging of his head/ear was not done, because based on the symptoms and two different veterinary clinics inner ear issue was the front runner. I completely UNDERSTAND that the outcome would not have changed for my beloved dog - but he would not have need to suffer in pain as long as he did. I have shared my dog's story with numerous friends and people, all of which have said I should challenge the money I paid, but more importantly EVERYONE knows what terrible care my dog received and they will NEVER take their animal here. read more

We brought two of our dogs in after they ate grapes and the entire staff was absolutely fantastic! They were very kind to me and they were very honest with us about what could or should be done to help the dogs that was really in a very reasonable price range. They gave us multiple options and never made us feel like we were bad pet parents for not going with the most expensive option. I really enjoyed talking to the vet and the technicians and the front office staff who helped us when we were scared about what would happen to our dogs. Even though this is quite a distance from our house this will be our emergency vet of choice for as long as we stay in Colorado! When you work in veterinary medicine your suppose to be tolerant, understanding and have good bedside manner. Took our new dog here the other night around midnight. We were worried he may have ingested something he shouldn't have. Everyone was great! From the front desk to the techs to the vet Dr. Ineson. They were very thorough and Dr. Ineson took lots of time to talk to me and discuss our options. There was great communication the day after as well. The pricing was fair. I was quoted $408 before any services were completed & ended up paying $296. Turns out our boy is ok but I wouldn't hesitate taking any of our pets back. While he was hospitalized they let us come and visit as often as we wanted and kept us up to date with how he was doing the entire time. Very strange experience overall and would not recommend this clinic at all if look for solid answers on simple things like kennel cough or comfort waiting (they put us in the room where they put down dying animals, Kleenex, angel animal art and all). I originally brought my dog in at the alert of Banfield due to concerns of low oxygen and potential pneumonia and left with even more uncertainty after over 2 hours of an exam, no oxygen given, only to be told we have no idea if it is kennel cough, pneumonia, or the strange disease that was killing pups last year so here are 35 antibiotic pills (Dr.Norman himself said he's only prescribing because he has not idea what it is but they couldn't hurt ) and we can come back run some X-rays later if it gets worse. Our puppy had an upset stomach we didn't know the cause of and they took the best care of her! We came in during a holiday so it was somewhat busy, but everyone seemed to be checked in quickly. All of the staff is really knowledgeable and transparent about treatment/pricing. We were given a list of possibilities from best to worst case scenario from the beginning. Our dog is pretty timid as well so they accommodated her needs to make her as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately, we had to put our dog down last night, and that's for sure not a exciting experience, but the way Dr McIntyre and his team were treating us was a blessing. We really appreciate people that are so caring and empathetic. It was 2am when we arrived, and the team took their time to find out what was going on, and they listened to our worries, and explained everything very well. I googled an emergency veterinarian as I'd just moved to Denver. The Broadway/County Line Road clinic was convenient. I took my 12 year old little Yorkie mix dog into the clinic for a curious wound that wasn't getting better after a few days. Right away there was a doctor & exam room available for us to be seen. Apparently my dog had been bitten by a bot fly which deposited a worm into the skin. The doctor removed the worm and gave us an antibiotic for Daisy. I appreciated being seen right away & also liked the educational review of bot flies. I had never heard of that before. Doctor even placed the worm in a test tube for me to see. The fee was very reasonable. The staff was friendly and very professional. I definitely will return if an emergency arises. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place! We came in after about a month of being to various vets without a clear answer. Our home vet recommended taking him here to keep him on fluids over the weekend until an ultrasound could be done. We were a mess. They were so kind and caring. We knew how busy they were, but when talking to doctors, you didn't feel rushed at all. They took time to explain where things were at and answer all of our plethora of questions. It was hard to leave him there, but when we came to visit, we could tell our pup really loved the staff there. Consistent updates, chances to visit him on between night stays, and the true kindness of all of the staff there, made a difficult situation much more bearable. Emerson says thanks CVSG!
