The final straw was my dog having an emergency this morning coughing. She was not in respiratory distress - but would not stop "coughing". I called to ask for an appointment and was told if it's not a respiratory emergency I should make an appointment for tomorrow, since they have none today. Me: "Okay what time do you have tomorrow?" Her: "We have a few blocks... a 9:30, 11:00, 11:30" Me "Can I have the 9:30?" Her: "No, we save those appointments for emergencies. You can call at 8:00a to try to get one" Me: "This is an emergency" Her "That's just our policy" I'm baffled by both the lack of care & customer service. A while back I asked for help finding a good local veterinarian. I was overwhelmed by the response. I ended up selecting Festival Animal Clinic. It's a warm and friendly place filled with animal lovers and very courteous Doctors and Staff. The reason I went looking was because after 11 years of great treatment, but the little friendly clinic on South Broadway, by the Safeway store went corporate. My little Maximillian had a series eye problem. They shoved pills and drops at us, and to increase profits had us come back for a follow up visit. On the follow up they sent in a tech who had no idea about our Max. We asked to see the doctor. She finally came in, but acted as if it was a major imposition. She barely look at Max. That was the last straw as they say. However, over at the Festival Animal Clinic the doctor discovered a huge growth on Max's eye lid. It was so large it was scratching his eye. No, I didn't notice it, but I'm not a person claiming to be a veterinarian. Dr. Rob treated Max, and yes there's a follow up, but no charge. Max's eye has improved 100%. March 10, 2023 the doctor came in and announced that Kimi, our 15 year old cat had an incurable disease Dysautonomia She said we had two choices. We could either put him down euthanize or put him in a home for $3,000, where he would die in a cage. We were devastated, I'm so glad we didn't listen to them. As you can see below in the video, he is perfectly healthy and we expect him to live a long happy life. We are so grateful to the vets at Wingate. They are loving and caring. DO NOT TRUST YOUR PET'S WELL BEING TO THIS CLINIC. I've been taking my dog here for nearly 10 years. It used to be a trustworthy place operated by trustworthy people. That has absolutely changed recently. I have had nothing but problems (for several months now) attempting to get online auto ship orders approved by Festival. They now refuse to work with Chewy online so I switched to Allivet who I thought they might be willing to cooperate with. Unfortunately, that route hasn't worked well either. Festival staff claims they approve prescriptions "with refills" so my auto-ship orders will go through smoothly. Allivet states that is not what they receive and they have to seek approval each time. This leaves me in the middle trying to figure out who is being honest. At first, I gave Festival the benefit of the doubt. After this experience with their staff, I now know they are not to be trusted. Shortened version: I have wasted time, money, energy, trips into their office, etc and paid their premiums on the medication I need for my dog just to attempt to prevent him from being in pain. I've called Allivet directly to explain what I need from them, then immediately called Festival to explain what I've arranged and what I need from Festival when Allivet calls them in a matter of minutes. Festival staff agrees to it yet still declines the medication and does not inform me they did so. When I finally discover it and inquire, I'm told there was a "mis-communication". If, after all my effort and their increased awareness to the problem, they still opt to decline a pain medication request, how is it possible they don't reach out to inform their customers and run the risk of pets staying in pain? Instead, they just decline and I notice days later the meds haven't showed up so I call to inquire and then they inform me! COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE given the ongoing circumstances. To add fuel to the fire, I ask to have Dr. Leenerts (who've I've worked with for nearly a decade and co-owner of the clinic) to call me back when he returns the next day. Instead, Val (a manager of some kind who really likes to hear herself talk) calls to tell me what she CAN'T do and argues with me. She further had the audacity to treat me like I'm prescription shopping... are you kidding me???? for my dog who is in pain???? Just assist me instead of arguing with me. Explain what you CAN do, instead of what you CAN'T. Val is very focused on winning the argument... in doing so, Festival Animal Clinic has absolutely lost my business. If they truly cared about my pet's well being, they would not price gouge on their medication. They charge nearly triple what it can be had for online and then make it difficult as to what online companies they will work with. I am now of the full belief that this difficult process is intentional in hopes that their customers will give up attempting to go through another entity (more economical option) for prescription medication in an effort to increase their own sales/profits. I'd be willing to pay more for convenience but not nearly triple!! After talking with Val, hearing her extremely argumentative approach, and her heavy focus on what they CAN'T do, the choice is clear: Festival is not interested in doing what is best for my dog but instead they are interested in winning a disagreement and charging the highest premiums out there for some of the most common medication for dogs (Carprofen & Gabapentin). My best advice: Don't go through the same wasted time, attempts to explain the current reality of your situation, and frustrations. Best to cut ties or avoid Festival Animal Clinic and find another clinic! Update: This was actually a blessing in disguise. I have already been in contact with another Vet Clinic and now realize the amount of money I've been wasting at Festival. I most certainly recommend seeking another option to save yourself money, frustration, and most of all, to be able trust the people who are responsible for the well being of your pets. read more

The text message was ignored and, when I called, the receptionist coldly informed me that they "don't have a doctor available." What is the point of saying you can see animals in need of emergency care and then blow off that promise when someone calls? My impression is that they are about something other than caring for animals and helping owners of beloved pets deal with health problems that their dogs and cats face. read more

They REALLY Don't Care. We didn't even see the vet after waiting 2 weeks for the appointment and providing a $50 deposit when making the appointment. Original appointment was for our female cat who was not feeling well. Within the two week wait, we had to take her to the ER vet and say good-bye. We were devastated. We did keep her original appointment and took our male cat who was due for a check up. We showed up early for the 4 PM Friday appointment. However, because the cat had a different name and we didn't call to tell them, they would not see our male cat. I explained the grief we had recently experienced with losing our female kitty. Alia, at the front desk, did not express any care or concern for our recent loss. She wouldn't make the name change or put our male cat in the system, so he could have the 4 PM or even a 4:30 PM appointment. There was no empathy, heart, care, or concern that we had a recent loss or that our male cat was stressed in the carrier after the car ride in a 100 degree weather. Why have a Vet if they aren't available when you need them? That was our dilemma with our 6 year old English Creme. We had been using a local animal clinic for five years! Zeus was not holding down his food. So we called our clinic and they said they were no openings and that we should go to the emergency clinic (their partner $$$$). Again, why have a vet if they can't be available when you need them? We called Festival and expressed our concerns about Zeus. Although, they had no available appointments they simply said, bring him in and we will find time to see him. The staff was very responsive to our needs and showed genuine concern for our pet. It makes me very sad to change this review, but I'm afraid I have to. Under Kim Saltas this clinic was like home, family, people that care about you and your pets, and people you care about. We continued to take our dogs here after Dr. Kim left and unfortunately discovered this is not the same place. The facilities have been updated, but as part of that they now take your dog back for any work and you can't be with them. We could hear our dog whining because she wasn't with us. Previously everything but surgery was done right there with you and your pet. We also had our dog looked over for couple tumors. We later received our estimate for $780-790 worth of surgery, including removal of two teeth. I thought it was just a mistake and called. In the end the bill and work changed to $360 and no tooth removal. Apparently, it was the staff's fault, staff we have known for years, who've never done anything like that! We decided to get a second opinion with a friend who is a Veterinarian. They checked her teeth and said they are in great shape (what Dr. Kim told us last year) and that the tumors were something to monitor, not just to be removed. All this made sense and had us calling for a records transfer. Very disappointed in the changes here. It seems the new clinic is a surgery and profit center now. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Original review: Sometimes there is a place that you love so much it makes it hard to put it into words. The Animal Clinic at the Festival is one such place. Dr Kim has a great staff that are all friendly and helpful, but Dr Kim is what makes this place the best. We have taken our pets here since we got our first dog back in the late 90s. The care she provides to both your pet and to your family is outstanding. She provides care and supports you in doing what is best both for your pet and your family, and takes the time to know you've done what is right. I am so thankful for this vet clinic. My dog ate something she shouldn't have and the vet I've gone to for years said they were booked and couldn't get me in. I looked up vets close to me and festival told me to come right in. They knew it was something that needed to be taken care of ASAP. I have been using the Animal Clinic since the 90's. Dr. Kim was a great vet. The new Doctors are good. Dr Kim's illness and retirement was difficult for everyone. The new Vets have been good. They have treated my dog to regular care. The staff was good. The only complaint is that the last time I was there I saw an assistant. We were there for his yearly heartworm check up and med pickup. If I wanted a Dr to examine my dog (to check on a possible hip issue, nothing major) it would have been an additional charge. I postponed the examine by the Dr until we come back in a couple months for the annual physical. It would be nice if the Dr would poke their heads in while you were sitting there and say Hi. I recently started bringing my 2 Bengal cats to Drs. Leenerts and Knapp and I couldn't be happier. Both doctors are so gentle and patient and I have complete confidence in the care received. Dr. Leenerts removed a skin growth on one of my Bengals last week. A different clinic I had brought her to had quoted a very invasive surgery that scared me into inaction, I feared it would be traumatic. After Dr. Leenerts examined her and described a much gentler procedure, I felt confident to go ahead with it. The surgery went very well and she recovered quickly. We were long time customers of Festival Animal Clinic when Dr Saltus was owner. She was great with all of our animals and the best vet ever. Thus, it was very hard to hear that she had sold the clinic but we decided to continue with them because the tech and reception staff was also very good and friendly and cared for our animals. When Dr Saltus had to stop treating animals, there were many different veterinarians who stepped in to help out and things were often overlooked, forgotten, missed. The service and care wasn't very good. However, Dr. Knapp and Dr. Leenerts have now taken over the clinic and are there permanently as the new owners. We've been going to them for 4 months or so now and have been very pleased. We've had multiple visits with both cats and dogs and both vets are caring, thorough, and seem to really care for our pets. The practice has stabilized and seems to be running much, much better now. It's going to be difficult to replace the caring, concern, and knowledge of Dr Saltus, but Drs Knapp and Leenerts have done a good job of regaining some trust that was lost during the transition/temporary period. read more

I was very impressed with the kindness, sensitivity and professionalism of the entire staff at Festival Animal Clinic. My family had been taking our pets to Dr. Saltus for years and I was at first hesitant to take my pets to a new vet. My daughter and I have 2 dogs we adopted from Max Fund a few years ago, and the chihuahua/rat terrier mix had a sore on his eye and what appeared to be a swollen lymph node. I warned the staff that he is very fearful of strangers, and sure enough he turned vicious instantly. Dr. Leenerts and 2 other staff members somehow managed to muzzle him without extra trauma to his sore eye. I feel that he was treated with extreme care and kindness even though it was almost impossible to handle him. It took 2 different medications and about 2 weeks to clear up the infection, and I am happy to say that he is back to his feisty self! We also have a miniature rat terrier that was due for a checkup and rabies shot, so we brought him in a few weeks later, he was seen by Dr. Knapp, who we were equally impressed with. Dr. Knapp was great working with us to make Maggie's end of life as pain free as possible. She was also very sensitive to our budget and helped us make informed decisions for care. At the end of Maggie's life we took her to Dr. Knapp and greatly appreciated Dr. Knapp's compassion and professionalism at one of the most difficult times for our family. We also went to Festival Animal Clinic to neuter our rabbit. My youngest son was extremely worried about the surgery and both Dr. Knapp and Dr. Leenerts were great in explaining the procedure along with all of the precautions they would take to ensure the safety of our rabbit. It was very sad when she died of brain cancer as she was the most caring vet I have ever met. However, we continue to use Drs. Knapp and Leenerts and find that they are just as caring.
