Online descriptions note the area's civil rights contributions, National Register of Historic Places status, and 19th-century houses that are similar to those of the opulent Central West End neighborhood just to the south. Opulence long ago migrated from this area, boarded up houses now ring the park, and the wealthy CWE is just as close as the notorious Ville neighborhood to the east. Park amenities include a very small playground, benches, a fenced-in statue of Martin Luther King Jr., and the fountain in the middle that gives the park its name. There are no restrooms nor picnic facilities. Parking is on the two city streets that shape the oval park.

Overall, it's a decent park for the area, but my personal idea of a park is a lightly maintained, wild forest that is predominantly used for hiking up mountains and photographing wildlife.

It was such a great value too, we rented the lodge and fire pit area for the entire day for less than $300 (not including the deposit which we got back after cleaning and turning in the keys.) The natural greenery made for such gorgeous outdoor photos and also reduced the need for extra outdoor decor aside from our arbor and chair sashes. Highly recommend for small events, it was a life and budget saver for us when our original venue booking fell through and I'm actually grateful that it worked out this way because the Nature Center hands down made our wedding unforgettable.
