When we got there, they had remodeled the toddler playground, and now there are just two 5-12 year playgrounds. As a mom of two little ones, I feel like there are almost no playgrounds in the entire metropolitan area that are good for toddlers. It feels like every park has been remodeled to include these crazy big climbing structures, which are so fun for big kids but make it so that I can't take my little ones there. Just because a park has a toddler sized structure doesn't mean it's a toddler-friendly playground. It's about what else is there; what a toddler is able to get themselves into, and how hard it is for parents to supervise and follow their toddlers (especially if parents have more than one kid to supervise). If there's a playground where a toddler can just go up some steps and all of a sudden they're 20 feet in the air... that's NOT a toddler-friendly playground. If you work for the city and you're reading this: Please build some toddler-friendly playgrounds!! Very disappointed with this Des Peres park remodel.

It was a hot day, so we appreciated that much of the trail was shaded. There was a family of deer right off the trail, which was fun to see up close. The children's playground area looked really fun for kids. There is a small parking lot. For us, this park is a convenient neighborhood option if we want a short walk.

Everything was so clean, the climbing gyms looked awesome, but for my toddler, he loved climbing the fake horses and tractor lol. This included a 1-hour canoe rental for two from Big Muddy Adventures. I should start by saying that I was impressed that this park is so accessible to St. Louis City and County residents (near 141 and 44). It is well-maintained with a playground, walking paths, bathrooms (clean and well-stocked), a large covered shelter with picnic tables and a lovely lake with kayak/canoe rentals. Fishing is allowed. It was a hot day, but we enjoyed sitting in the shade, canoeing around the little lake and later seeing the sun set over the lake. I would like to return again and walk around the lake with our dog and then perhaps have a picnic on one of the covered picnic tables with a view of the lake.

The park also hosts the annual art fair and other pop up events. My favorite thing about this park is that it is not super crowded. While the weekends might boost the number of visitors, the park is usually still fairly peaceful. We've met photographers here before as the sculptures and sceneries do introduce lovely backgrounds for photoshoots. We've also just spent some time strolling with our pup on beautiful days. There is an education center to learn about the park. Aside from beautiful nature scenes and flowers, there is a large eyeball which is quite an entertaining conversational piece, a very tall human piece, a leafy looking piece made of wood, a large moose (I think?) and so much more! If you haven't made the trip, take some time to check this place out on a morning or an afternoon stroll and check out some outdoor arts!
