More people should take advantage of this cool opportunity, it was basically empty on a Wednesday night but the food and experience were so amazing. For $45 they gave bread and butter, and we started with the meatballs and shrimp cocktail. The meatballs were the star of the night! So juicy and came with a crispy garlic bread and the most delicious vodka sauce. For entree we got the salmon and it was topped with this lobster sauce that was 10/10! And ended the amazing meal with the perfect Italian lemon cake. The service was great, we had the sweetest waitress and basically had the place to ourselves. And the ambiance was so cool! While the lobby is gorgeous and historic, the actual rooms leave much to be desired. The hot water always fluctuates between ice cold and steaming hot, and in the first room we were given the bath faucet simply fell off due to rust. They were able to move us into a different room with a working bathroom, but the portable A/C unit's exhaust kept falling out of the window and sending hot air into the room no matter how much duct tape they added. The keys barely worked, and we went through about 30 different keys in our 5 day stay. there was only one soda machine and one snack vending machine for the entire hotel and both were out of order. There was no free breakfast and not even coffee on the weekends. The carpets throughout were filthy, and there was an overall sense of neglect and antipathy toward the guests. I was there for GenCon 2026, and definitely got the impression that they did not want us there. read more

The stay was fine. Valet was a mess upon departure. Lost keys, had to get own car. Very disrespectful. The circle was closed so a bunch of people were just standing and waiting to get their car. Negussy was the valet man and he was very unprofessional, confrontational, and tried to yell at us stating it was our fault, that the front desk gave us our keys. Omg, from the location alone, I knew I was in for a treat. Upon arrival, I was greeted and very warmly ushered to a location that was more comfortable while I waited for my party to join me. I was really impressed by the decor of the whole hotel and restaurant. It gives 1930s vibe with a country club feel to it. I felt very elite just being there. The bar area was really inviting with a speakeasy feel to it. It was amazing. The drinks were top tier, and so was the food incredible. I may or may not have gotten a little tipsy off one drink and was unable to eat my food. And it was still just as good the next day. Then, after we finished dinner, they allowed us access to explore the hotel and club. It has really great views and I hope I can eat there again outside of devour Indy because I definitely would go again. read more

So, yesterday Saturday April 26th I had an opportunity to attend the first ever rare book fair event in Indianapolis! It was a very beautiful sunny Saturday, yet a little chilly outside. When, I notice the book event to be held at the historic Columbia Club which is a members ONLY club, but for that Saturday it was open to public so I decided to go. I arrived down there around 2:15, I did valet parking since it was only $20, and upon walking in the historic Club you'll noticed a lot of the wood work, in the building, two lion statues right at the staircase, the ambiance was clean, very quiet like going to a Library. There's a bar in the Club that have a lot of Whiskey along with other drinks. Then, I headed up to the 10th floor where the rare book fair was at. There was so many great first edition books those books cost over one thousand dollars and then there were items $10- $50 range. I would I would had gotten there at 11am, but my plan didn't work like that. I did order me red wine Cabernet for $9 it was delicious. Those range from classic first edition kids books, a lot of politics book, history books, there were some old maps, and there were some African American books too. I left out with a total of four books which are: Alex Haley book called A Different Kind of Christmas, Colson Whitehead book called the Underground Railroad, a portrait book called Eros that showcase Marilyn Monroe last studio portraits along with other things in the book, and my last book is called Famous Sex Comics very explicit images of early 1900s. We decided to spend the night here for our 55th anniversary. We were given a nice room overlooking Christ Church that reminded us of a New Year's Eve we spent here decades ago. The room wasn't huge but that was typical of the era when this club was built. Robes are a nice addition and the bathroom is a good size with a walk in shower. As other reviews have mentioned, don't expect a Hilton or JW. Do expect personality! Dinner was lovely. I started with crab cakes (good but not hot enough temp) followed by Lamb Loins with Dauphinoise potatoes and brown butter broccolini.. the Lamb is heavenly, the potatoes are lovely and the broccolini is also very good. RRR had the Caesar salad, good but needs more lemon for him. He also had the Dover sole, prepared table side by out outstanding wait s to add, Stephen. Very good but very buttery. Went for Devour and we weren't sure what to expect since we had heard mixed reviews on how the service was, however, I'm so glad we went! Everyone went above and beyond to be friendly towards us and make us feel welcomed even though we weren't members. Stepping in the door we were immediately greeted and directed a podium by the door we would be entering to be seated. We were then greeted again and shown to our seats at a table adorned with a white table cloth. The room was old world classic. We then were immediately greeted by our waitress and gave our drink order. I didn't see a Sangria on the menu, but when the waitress went to put in the drink order for my husband she found one of her coworkers was able to make me a red sangria. All of the staff knew we were there for Devour, yet they treated us as special as those who were members. I got the corn chowder which was yummy, the crab stuffed Walleye and for dessert had the Nutella donut dish they created. The donuts were light and delicate! Even the man serving us drink and water refills was great! A few things that aren't advertised: you aren't allowed to bring in ANY food or drink from outside, including having food delivered, bringing back leftovers, etc. The restaurant that serves breakfast was closed but you are not able to bring food in for breakfast. The rooms don't have air conditioning that you can actually control the temperature. You can choose warm or cool and then the fan speed. There's no discernible reason why the fan kicks or off but it does so at random. Valet parking is $40 with in and out privileges. Valet parking was the best pet of our stay because it was convenient and they didn't have many guests so our car was just parked directly in front of the hotel. You can eat in their restaurant on site. We went in the bar and had one glass of house wine and a mixed drink and the total before tax/fees was $22. We were charged various fees including on they called an "a la carte service fee" that was 21% plus tax then charged on the service fee. It was over $30 after fees. There were two other parties sitting at the bar that were Club members and the bartender was quite friendly with. He was dismissive of us and wore his mask under his chin. We didn't return to the bar because we felt very unwelcome. 24 hour front desk service is advertised but is untrue. The ice machine is closed because of Covid restrictions so you need to go to the front desk for ice. We went to get ice and toilet paper and the person manning the door said there is not a front desk person overnight and he couldn't help us. We were unable to get ice or toilet paper. We needed toilet paper because our room wasn't serviced at all during the multiple night stay. No fresh towels, supplies, sanitation, etc. We weren't advised that there would be no service or given the hours of the front desk staff. The room itself was dirty. There were rings on the counter, dirty floors, cracked ceilings. The room faced directly into the office next door, about twelve feet apart. We had to open the window because it was so hot in the room (because no AC)and woke up to occupied offices that we could clearly see, and they could see us. Front desk staff was so rude when we checked out. She appeared to be yelling at housekeeping, stopped to take our keys, and then continued to scold staff. She didn't ask how the stay was or allow us to share any feedback. Overall, this hotel is what you'd expect from a Best Western or less. The Hilton Garden Inn is next door for cheaper with the same level of room (or nicer) and you'll get 24 hour front desk staff, actual AC, housekeeping service, and can bring in food and drinks. read more

The Columbia Club is a magical and special place. It is not a typical hotel but rather a stately old building built in 1924, rich with charm and character, located directly on the Monument Circle. Its cool marble floors, polished wood paneling, shiny brass fixture and history are on display the moment you walk in the front doors. Each floor is filled with original artwork -- often depicting Indianapolis and the surrounding environs. The guest rooms are clean and very comfortable. More importantly, it is an oasis among all the hustle of downtown and the challenges we face in life. I have spent time visiting the public spaces inside the building and was delighted by the spectacular views and intimate areas arranged for guests to find a bit of quiet during their stay. The staff treat members and their guests like old friends, greeting people by name and remembering preferences to make all feel at home. Many have been working at the Columbia Club for decades and are treasured familiar faces. I do not recommend staying here if your expectations are those of the Hilton. You will be disappointed like Jenni B. This place is far more than a hotel. It is a historic private club for members and their guests to comfortably use when in downtown Indianapolis. I really enjoyed my time at the Columbia Club! I was invited by friend who is a member. It had been quite a while since I'd been. Much of it is remodeled, so I was excited to see it. They have done a nice job, and the Christmas decorations are absolutely gorgeous! We started in the new Platinum Club. It is beautiful. It overlooks the Circle, so we sat by the window and looked out over the lighted tree, the light show on the buildings, and the admirers walking and driving by. We then went downstairs for dinner. The restaurant is really pretty and decorated well. The food was fantastic! I had lamb chops which were perfect! Our server also was really great. She was knowledgeable and cheerful. I think I was under the impression that you had to be a member to go there, and I don't know if that's true all the time, but for Devour anyone could get an RSVP. When we went, it was surprising empty; we practically had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Our server was phenomenal and all the food was good. Sorry I can't remember exactly what we ate, and my pics are a little dark because the room light was low. But we had appetizers, drunks, dinner and dessert in our party of four, and everything was tasty. Our bill lit for the hubs & I came to about $150 with tip. I was really excited to stay at the Columbia Club, but the experience left me wondering how they are calling themselves a 4-star hotel. It felt like we were staying at a rundown nursing home. The first room we were given was a double bed with a window that had only a honeycomb blind -- not blackout and no curtains. We went to the front desk to ask for a queen size and were moved to a king. This room's windows had proper window treatments, but the bathroom was so sad. It had a drop acoustic ceiling that I'm sure was hiding a multitude of sins. The floor was mysteriously damp all night long and when we tried to wipe it dry, the towel revealed how dirty the floor was. Everything in the bathroom was mismatched and there were holes in the tile from removing towel bars that were never fixed. The staff is lovely (they didn't seem surprised when I said it was an "interesting" stay). And the location is great for access to downtown activities and restaurants. But it's ridiculous that a place that touts itself as exclusive -- including having a "dress code" -- doesn't hold itself to higher standards. read more

I suspect lots of business goes down in this place, or maybe secret society type things, I can't be too sure. I will say that it's a beautiful location and I'm glad I finally got and invite to go here! What started as a lazy Saturday filled with a galentines brunch then progressed to this evening affair! My friends cousin had someone back out of a IWS gala spot at the last minute so I was invited as a backup! I'm glad I got this invite! The whole place is awesome you pull up and there is a vallet, and as you walk in, there's a sign that states what the dress code is, they prefer no tee shirts, ball caps and casual clothes, and you are supposed to silence your cell phone. Each level is filled with dark wood and stained glass. On the 3rd floor we had cocktails and delicious appetizers my favorite was the tiny Bruschetta. Dinner was on the 10th floor and it started with a tasty green salad, then the main course was chicken, asparagus and scalloped potatoes. All the food was awesome! It was a pleasure to be invited to the Columbia Club. It's located in a great area and the decor is pretty standard for a 4 star hotel restaurant. We ate lunch in the French room (third floor) because the Crystal Terrace was under renovation. The food is kind of basic and uninteresting. I had the seared tuna entree for lunch with a mimosa (kind of disappointing they didn't have bellinis) and it was ok. This is not the first spot I would choose to go for lunch but there's a few things that anyone can find to like. They also have a lunch buffet, also basic selections of soup and salad with OK cookies for dessert. If you are looking to avoid the crowds and noise at other popular Devour Downtown spots give the Columbia Club a try. I've been here a couple of times because it's the future in-laws favorite spot when they're in town. All of the staff I've encountered is friendly and helpful from valet service to bar and restaurant service. We've been to the bar a few times and the drinks are strong for their price point. Some of the food menu items are also really good while others aren't too impressive. I haven't eaten the entire menu, but the calamari and lobster bisque are recommended. I tried the sliders and the beef didn't have much flavor -- it actually tasted watery. The decor is incredible. The hotel rooms are ok, they're on the smaller side and lack updates. The rooms aren't modern like you'd find at Hyatt or Hilton, but the difference is history and character. If you're expecting a Hyatt feel, you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting to experience a unique hotel in Indianapolis with history and decor that didn't come from a stock room, you'll probably enjoy your time. read more

I agree what Elizabeth said in her review of the Columbia Club. I wholeheartedly have the same sentiments so I will not repeat what she said so succinctly. The Columbia Club was founded in 1889 and is the oldest club in Indianapolis. I have been to the Columbia Club numerous times over the years.  I have enjoyed going to the bar or fine dining with family or friends.  The servers are the same each time I go so frequently they know how and what I want to drink-even though I am not a member-that makes it so special for me. Like she said - the club is like dining or hanging out with your family at home. This is not a hotel even though it has bedrooms- it is so much more.  It is a small culture of people that have been members for a very long time. Many club members are descendants of former Columbia Club members-the same families generation after generation.  The nice thing about a club is when you go back you will run into the same people year after year both in terms of members or staff. I am glad I live so close and can go anytime I want- if you get a chance to go or to become a member take a chance- you might like it. read more

I was supposed to stay here the end of June on a 90 degree day. The lobby and common areas were not air conditioned as I entered the hotel but I had hopes that my room would be. I got to my room and the window was open with tape and a random plastic vent- which was just bringing in outside air. The air conditioner didn't work so i went back to the front lobby and they initially said to just wait in my room for an engineer to come fix it. (Which was a form of torture since it was 90 degrees and humid) So i went back down to the lobby and they proceeded to put me into another room where the air conditioning didn't work. It was pretty clear they don't have functioning air conditioning- or at least a system that can compete with 90 degree weather. So i asked for a refund - i was very polite and just said that They can give me a refund or i can submit a case with my credit card company since i have pictures (but if I have to submit a case with my credit card company I will give bad reviews. I've been a member here for 6 months or so. Great club and they are constantly expanding and upgrading the services and amenities. Recently they redid the gym and it's one of the best small gyms in the city in my opinion. All the equipment is new and wells kept and they have a wide range. The monthly dues for the gym alone is probably worth it. They have a dry sauna here as well. I also love the kitchen here and the chefs. They do a great job and will make anything you want. I was in a wedding here a couple of weekends ago, so I spent the night before the wedding and the night of the wedding in one of the hotel rooms. The staff were either very nice or extremely rude, nothing in-between. The rooms have never been updated aka the A/C unit was all over the place and there was no fan/ventilation in the bathrooms. Also no mini fridge and the only ice maker in the building wasn't working. You can hear everything going on in the hall and nearby rooms, and our rooms weren't ready at the 3 pm check in. My fiancé also had issues with the shower being ice cold so he ended up being late for pictures. It was a beautiful venue for a wedding, and great location, but we would not recommend staying here. For the price and "elite club," I was excepting a lot better of a stay but was left very underwhelmed, especially with the hotel quality and staff demeanor. read more

Went in during Devour Downtown to experience this historical Indy landmark. Well.., the building is the only reason to visit. Don' waste time or money with dining here. As you notice on their Yelp page...not really any food pictures...and there is a reason...The food is terrible!!! Absolutely terrible!!! A few "honorable" mentions are the tuna tar tare (ie horseradish cat food). When this tar tare arrived it was gray and crumbly, not really resembling any sort of seafood...or human food. Wifey, being daring tried it and then turned into one of those cartoon characters with smoke and fire shooting out of her ears because it was SO SPICY! Not that "hey, I LOVE spicy foods" sorta spicy but more like "someone doesn't know what their doing with the horseradish/hurt somebody" spicy. We just had the most amazing Wedding last weekend & everything was absolutely perfect! Brian Swan & his team coordinated the details for the Bride Molly & Groom Andy. Not a detail was forgotten & he guided us through every step in our year long planning. Incredible professionalism, staff were amazing, the food was superb, delightful, romantic & magical. This place has a number of traditional style meeting rooms for your events. I have experienced a number of social and professional events in the spaces offered by the Columbia Club and they seems to have a room to fit every situation. I've attended networking events, formal dinners, and even training sessions here. The staff is always pleasant and very helpful. I also heard there is a gym in there somewhere where students get a discount. One time I was waiting for a meeting to start and I just sat in the atrium and enjoyed the plush chairs and the ornate architectural design - just breathtaking! Every time I sit in that room I just feel all the opulence. Things to know: 1. Parking is atrocious, especially if you are there for an event. They do have valet parking though or just take an Uber. 2. I think members get discounts on room reservations so check and see. read more

I am a downtown dweller in Indianapolis and a member of the Club. For me, the Columbia Club is my gym, workplace, (occasional) dinner table, and my gateway to everything happening downtown. I often have lunch at the Club and order various items - salads, BLTs, etc. Today, I ordered Crab Cakes with Mango - which were incredible. The restaurant manager, Phil, knows all the regulars and always makes sure that every guest is having a great experience. If not, he goes out of his way to fix it. It's a personal touch you simply don't find most places. If you're considering staying, dining, or joining the club, do it. I cannot recommend it highly enough! If the historical charms, friendly staff, and delicious eats aren't enough, access to the most exclusive experiences in Indianapolis will probably convince you. read more

I'm not a picky traveler, nor a picky person...I was really looking forward to the Columbia Club since it has a great history but was sincerely disappointed. It did not feel welcome, comfortable or clean. - Upon arrival, the room smelled musty. I don't want to say moldy, and I know it was an old building, but it smelled like mold. My carpet was slightly damp and you could feel it in the air. My lungs were not happy. - There was a huge stain on my rug right next to my bed/night stand that was light brown and looked like someone had thrown up, or spilled... I don't know, butternut squash soup? Was thoroughly grossed out and checked the carpet and found several stains all over, and in the hallways. For a place with a strict dress code that wouldn't even let me wear leggings and flip flops to get ice on another floor, I was really disappointed with this. I called housekeeping to let them know about the stains so I wouldn't get charged for them, and they offered to clean it for me, but I was SO tired and had a long trip getting there and since it was on the opposite side of the room, I really just wanted to lay down :( and told them not to worry, just document it so I don't get charged. Hopefully they take care of that for the next person. -The stain made me do some more investigating, there was no top sheet on the bed, just a large sheet tucked in. I pulled back my comforter to find the plastic thing from a tag in my bed, so finding trash under my covers made me consider that they weren't really washed... but that's an assumption. The pillows were nice, I'll give them that, but the bed itself was garbage and the mattress did no justice. Getting into bed the second night and heard a large tear- the sheet had a hole in it already and my foot caught it and tore more. Ugh. -It's FREEZING during the day because the air conditioner is going and you have no way of changing it, so I bundled up for sleeping (cheap comforter did not do any justice) but apparently they turn the air off at night? Or something? and I woke up in a pile of sweat every single night. No matter what I fell asleep in I was shivering and still woke up warm and uncomfortable. - The shower was A NIGHTMARE. DRY SHAMPOO WAS MY FRIEND. I attempted to wash my hair the first night and the shower was OK for about 10 seconds then immediately turned scalding hot, to freezing cold, and then just alternated between the two. I have a lot of hair and it was impossible to wash without losing my mind. I ended up directing the nozzle to the wall and using the spray to rinse my body because the water was just impossible to stand under. I didn't wash my hair again the four days I was there. There was no mat in the shower which is a safety hazard. The bathroom was bare and the towels were stiff and not very nice. -I had a small room on the 6th floor with a nice view of the parking garage that had big lights on all night. The light block curtain was broken so I could not get it to shut all of the way. When you're traveling, I don't care much about the view from the hotel room because I don't spend much time there, but when it comes to sleeping it was really frustrating having such bright lights and curtains that didn't work. -The WIFI is absolutely awful and the TV's are small. I'd say prepare to bring a computer to watch netflix because the TV is hopeless, but then again - prepare to spend a good amount of time buffering trying to get anything to load. Aha :/ - The tap water is absolutely disgusting and they charge like, $3 for bottled water, so be prepared for that. I wish I had a chance to check out the Cabaret performances, or dine with the Columbia Club because it seems like those are the two major plusses of it. The ambience of the club is nice, and I'm sure some of the other rooms do it justice, but my time at the Columbia Club was not pleasant and it just seemed like a snotty, exclusive place that cares a lot about how it appears, and not the person's experience actually staying there. read more

Hmm, I checked in, left a tip on yelp and then because it was Friday and Octoberfest weekend guess I forgot to review. I have been here twice. Both times I was invited, Once by a ticket for a warming hut during the Super Bowl and secondly by public offering for Octoberfest. Both times the service was great, food was ok and the drinks were fine. Top shelf booze and real german beer offerings for Octoberfest. The reason for my low rating is simple -- no hospitality. I grew up a Hoosier and am recently back from Chicago and something in this city I love is off. I remember a phrase Hoosier Hospitality ( maybe it dates back to Hudnut, I am not certain) but this isn't what you get at The Columbia Club. During the Super Bowl, we were invited to stop in for drinks and a live band. The band was good and the drinks were warming. But, we were not allowed into the bar...members only. Thanks for inviting me to visit your club and then retreating to your secret cave so that you don't need to talk to me,. Octoberfest was a washout, literally. It stormed hard at 5:30pm, I live close and went over after the storm. There were some tents up and the band and party was going on. I picked up some overpriced beer and a brat and looked for a table. Everything was drenched except for 10 empty tables under a tent. I think there was one person sitting at a table. I went and sat to enjoy the reheated brat. Soon a security person approached and told me the table was for members only. Sigh, thanks again Columbia Club. If you need to be exclusive at least make it so that it seems you have a reason. No one was there enjoying your sheltered tables but yet it wasn't ok for the public to access them since they were yours. Don't worry, I am talking my ball and going home. With so many cool events and places to visit in Indy that do have Hoosier Hospitality I probably won't be back. read more

Do not have a wedding or event here ever! My wife and I were recently married at this venue and the entire event was a mess. Even with all the mistakes made, (including $6k of outside catering not getting served, a table with a bunch of alcohol on it so our guests were self serving) the place is filthy! COCKROACHES crawled through my wedding on multiple occasions and I could hear guest screaming. My wife checked in to her room and there was feces in the toilet and the room smelled of pee. Multiple guests told us after our wedding how filthy and smelly their rooms were. We could not be more disappointed and embarrassed... UNTIL...we are now trying to resolve these issues and come to an agreement. Then we realized they charged my credit card $3k for a room that they told me was comped. I never received a receipt at checkout. I was told the credit card was used for incidentals and that there were no charges and nothing to sign. So now I feel like I'm being stolen from. We are arguing with them about these charges and they are refusing to refund my card. Fun. It's like dealing with used car salesmen. Please stay away from the Columbia club. They clearly don't do honest business. What once was a staple of Indianapolis has clearly gone down hill. It is obvious that poor leadership trickles down throughout. STAY AWAY and save yourself a huge headache. My wife, my family, deserved so much better. I can't believe we have to play games and plead to simply get false charges removed from a credit card. All this on top of our wedding that was a huge disaster. read more

They really should just give up and turn this into a museum. The place is beautiful in a brooding sort of way. I can easily imagine a movie set here where, circa 1920, the beautiful leading lady walks in the front door past the statues and up the marble stairs, passes off her fur to a porter, and has her hand kissed by the love interest and everything is well lit and sparkling. Then the scene fades to current day, and a wrinkly old lady with a sparkle in her eye is sitting at one of shabby tables in the gloomy grand hall, telling her attentive granddaughter what it used to be like. but it no longer is. Everything just feels like it's sagging with age. Worn out. The staff tries to put on airs to make it all seem important, and just come off as very rude. I'm not a member, I stayed as a guest while in town for a convention (the location of the place is great). I then spent as little time there as I could, and avoided the staff as much as I could. There was a hole in the wall in the closet, stains on the walls and carpet, everything (wall art, lamps) was conspicuously bolted down, like someone had come through a month before and gone into a drilling and bolting frenzy. The air system in the room ran at a roar, and the tiles in the bathroom were loose. I felt so unwelcome here I didn't explore, so I don't know if the food is good, or the state of the exercise equipment or whatever. The fact that there were bronze plaques around the lobby informing me that there was a strict dress code pretty much quashed any chance of my leaving the direct path that led from my room to the elevator to the door. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! We had a group of 10 for dinner before Yuletide, and then drinks after. For dinner, my scallops were extremely overdone, like rubber. The server dropped one of my friend's plates. After Yuletide, we came back for a drink. My drink has sat empty for over 45 minutes. I tried to get the bartender's attention for that entire time. I *finally* got a glass of water in *plastic*. Seriously, plastic, in a nice restaurant?! I know I'm use to Chicago establishments, but seriously, this place is a disgrace. I'm sitting here now, and still don't have a drink after an hour of empty glasses. Will never be back!!! To add to the horrible service, the valets pulled the car up, so the the passenger door was over a pile of loose bricks. What the? And even the rear door had to navigate large grated while in heels...have these people ever done upscale service? My aunt has a membership here, but you could not pay me enough to come back. read more
