A couple of try ons (as my shoe size in Keens can be 11 or 11 1/2) and I was ready to go; however, my wife who initially did not look the look of the bubble toe on the Keens (for women or men) was finally talked into trying a pair of Keens on and walking around in the shop. Comfort for her, and thus a pair of Keens for her and, of course, one for me. We are stunned and shocked by how cruel my mother was treated today by the blonde manager. We were…read morebrowsing and my mom saw the golden leaf lotion brand that my grandmother uses. We saw an opened half used lotion bottle sitting out on the shelf. My mom simply put a small amount in her hand not knowing that wasn't a tester. The blonde manager her voice at her saying "Those are not testers" and my mom said "Oh I am sorry they looked like it because it was opened and half used." To which the manager replied "Because of people like you." She proceeded to then verbally attack my mother in front of other customers and as we were attempting to leave, she stepped towards us and was flinging her arms and hands telling us to leave. We were horrified and my mother was in tears leaving the store. We have never experienced anything like this. Even the customers in the store came out after us after the ordeal and said that they had never seen anything like that before. Completely unprofessional and cruel, we will be seeking further action moving forward. Nobody deserves to be treated so cruelly. Do not shop here.

The employee working repeatedly told us that they had brought everything in for the night and to be careful, which I completely understand. However, the way it was communicated made us feel like we were in the way rather than welcome in the store. My family didn't notice, but I personally heard the employee say, "They need to leave," in a very rude and disrespectful tone while we were still inside. They changed the sign from 'Open' to 'Closed' while I was still inside the store, which made me feel like I was being rushed out and was not welcome there. Overall, it was not a great experience. I understand wanting to close up for the night, but there are much more respectful and professional ways to communicate that to customers. It definitely left a bad impression, especially while we were visiting on vacation.

I love that Village Thrift is run by the local Blowing Rock Women's Club, and all items are sold…read morefor scholarships for local kids. They raised $145,000 in the 2025/2026 season, too--wow! That's even more than my local women's club raised (through donations and fundraising only) for the same period. The store is neatly organized, and the prices are great. The day I stopped in, they were having a half-off sale on their women's clothing, and I was able to find several things that I liked. They also have a variety of housewares, cookware, linens, shoes, and decor. They even have a roomy fitting room to try on clothes. Note that they don't have any men's clothing. All of their items are donated, and many were higher-end brands. I found several Loft and Talbots tops and dresses that I had to purchase. Village Thrift is also fully run by volunteers who are friendly and happy to be there. I'll definitely return the next time I'm in town!

Last year, they gave over $100,000 to about 20 students. The store is staffed by a lovely group of volunteers who take pride in making a difference. They have a wide selection of items from art to clothing, jewelry, and home goods. I found a few cute items and felt good about my purchase as well.
