I am giving CVC a two star review for only one reason: they won't give you your complete eyeglasses prescription, including your "PD" unless you buy glasses from them. Basically this means you can't go to them for just the eye check up but buy glasses from a cheaper online store. They would give it to me if I bought a $50 package but that is more expensive than the service is worth. Also their in house frames are above average cost. If their in house frames were more reasonably priced I would take this into account. But basically it feels like they're holding my prescription hostage and this type of price gauging really rubs me the wrong way. For this reason, I would not recommend them to friends or family. Otherwise, pleasant, professional, clean, convenient location, and good communication. So if you're okay with spending more than going market rate for frames or don't need glasses - then they're a good spot. Otherwise, I would avoid them. read more

I'm new to Seattle and have terrible, terrible vision. I've worn contact lenses since I was in the 6th grade and, before yesterday, I had been going to the same eye doctor most of my life. But, with a new life in a new city comes new doctors! And since I was on my last pair of disposable lenses, I figured the time to find a new spot and some new contacts was well overdue. Being the procrastinator I am, OF COURSE I waited until my last pair of contacts were physically painful to wear for even a short amount of time. Dumb, I know. I quickly took to Yelp to find a great eye doctor that was walkable from Downtown. That's when I found Columbia Vision Center! First of all, I was able to make an appointment within days of my phone call. That's a huge perk. Secondly, they set aside a pair of trial contacts for me to wear until my appointment at no charge. All I had to do was pick them up, and seeing as how their office is 5 blocks from where I live, it couldn't be easier to get there. The doctor visit itself was quick and easy. I truly appreciated all the helpful info and I loved that I got to look at photos of the inside of my eyes! She also seemed to use a lot of updated, tech-y gadgets that I've never seen before. I was walked through what to expect before every test she administered and she even showed me in the photos how anxiety and stress are damaging the veins in my eyes! CRAZY. * By the end of my visit I was sent away with 9 pairs of daily disposables to try and a good understanding of what my insurance covers for when I have to make an order. The choice to go daily disposable was offered up by the doctor with my concerns and issues in mind, which is really helpful. Price-wise I did notice Columbia Vision is a bit higher than the prices I'm used to. However, I do realize I'm going to an eye doctor in Downtown Seattle. *Something to take into consideration: If you're worried about how much some of these tests cost, ASK. It's that simple. You can get the pupil dilation test still, which may be a cheaper alt to the photos. JUST ASK. read more

A great place! The service was quick an everyone was nice. I went in with a pair of frames that I wanted to order in mind and the nice women helped me try on some that were similar in the store. They offered great suggestions, and I discovered through their guidance that it was the size of the frames that I liked the most - not necessarily the frames themselves. They had a pair in the store that were slightly larger and a different shape that I fell in LOVE with and ordered immediately. I have insurance, but they have flexible payment options for those who don't. Great selections, nice people, and their eye exams use more modern techniques. For instance, they don't blow air into your eyes and they dilation solution is very mild (I was able to go back to work and function minimally until it wore off - an hour and a half later). It was a very comfortable experience and I'm glad I've finally found an eye doctor to stick with. I have been a patient at Columbia Vision Center for over 10 years. Never once have they ever been rude to me. Never once have I ever had a problem with their insurance submissions. I have referred others to Columbia Vision Center and they also say great things about them. It has been an enjoyable 10 years of working with them to fulfill my vision needs - and I'm not an easy customer because I'm legally blind and need a lot of specialty features on my glasses. Dr. Hua, Anna and Jami are all very knowledgable and sweet people, with excellent taste, I might add. They also carry the latest styles at reasonable prices. I am due for my annual eye exam and new glasses and thought about returning to this place but decided against it. Granted, it's been a little less than a year but I was a little underwhelmed by the service so I decided to Yelp my experience as I had intended to. My entire exam with Dr. Hua was under 30 minutes and the she seemed very rushed (maybe a 5:30 p.m. appointment at the end of a workday is a terrible idea?) I'm always weary of clinics that are not medical health providers who want my primary medical insurance before even seeing you. It's a way to nickel and dime you. When the front office asked for my medical insurance provider, I should have known. The exam was rushed and I didn't feel like it was through at all. I mentioned that my eyes have always been dry and most of the time, due to allergies. She diagnosed me with conjunctivitis but didn't treat it. It was a simple, oh, I think you have conjunctivitis and should wear daily disposables. I'm thinking okay then. I'll order new ones. I find out later they had billed my insurance and truth be told, I don't know what for. I'm aware that you bill if you actually treated a patient for something but that didn't happen. It was a statement and that was that. I only wear certain contact brands and the one I could wear most comfortably wasn't something they carried in the office so they denied me when I asked for my preferred brand and tried to sell me one they carried touting that they only recommend high end ones. I get it if they only want to carry certain brands but the "high end" ones simply irritated my eyes. I think the patient wearing the lenses know best what works for their own eyes. The front desk snootily told me that Aqua Dailies were not high end enough to be recommended by their optometrist. Maybe they are less stringent about that now but I'm not going to chance it. I asked for my eye glass prescription several times and finally got it after 3 attempts when I refused to purchase overpriced glasses in store. I think most people are aware that they can get the exact same thing online for about 1/3 the price. The optician and front desk aren't especially nice if you don't buy anything with them. They make a small commission of you buy something. With that said, I've been to another vision source since and have liked the experience more. Beware of any vision clinic asking for primary health insurance before even seeing you. If they catch a glaring "health" issues during my eye exam, sure I'll happily have you bill my insurance but really? There are so many optical shops and eye doctors to pick from in Seattle, it can almost be a little overwhelming. So I narrowed it down to Columbia Vision Center by its proximity to my office, and a little pre-Yelping. The fact that they have a decent website with online booking sealed the deal. And hooray! I found a great eye doctor to update my prescription and take a look at a chronically scratchy, red eye issue I'd been having. I'm pretty loyal to Eyes on Fremont when it comes to frames, so I really was just in the market for the exam portion. Dr Hua was personable and thorough. She listened and even joked a little (always a nice touch, I think!). The appointment process was quick and easy, and the woman at the front desk was delightful. I like glass lenses. They are less prone to scratching, although they may break and are heavy. I have been to other places where there is a huge push to sell the plastic lenses. One place I went to said they would not even sell me the glass lenses. At Columbia Vision Center, they said no problem, and found a frame that would be appropriate for my face and to accommodate the glass. Dr. Hua is very pleasant an accommodating. read more

I just completed my annual eye exam and the outcome was again top-rate for me. Having moved out of town last year, I made the trip to Seattle rather than find a new vision clinic, because Dr. Hua and her staff are very professional, with a great customer service approach. Dr. Hua recapped the results for me and made recommendations on the choice of adding a paid of computer only glasses. The staff gave me advice on how to maximize my insurance coverage, and Le cheerfully adjusted my current frames and replaced the eye pads. I have always found their advice on frame selection very effective, resulting on lots of compliments on my selection. read more

I have been going to Columbia Vision Center for about five years, for my annual eye exams. I give Dr. Hua's office five stars for her service, but I find the front desk staff abrupt. Dr. Hua is professional, courteous, she listens and advises. I go there because of Dr. Hua, ignore the inadequate customer service of her staff, and go elsewhere for my frames. I love shopping for frames and I haven't found anything at Dr. Hua's that I like. The offices are convenient, and a bus ride or bike ride will get you there easily. read more

After much searching & reading reviews, I decided to try Dr. Hua & Columbia Vision Center. I was so glad I did! The staff was courteous & professional and the office was clean. Everyone is kind and not stuffy at all. I was worried about prices and selection, but they had me covered. Jaimie spend a lot of time with me as I am so picky when it comes to getting the right color contacts. She explained my benefits thouroughly and made a few suggestions to help maximize my benefits. I ended up ordering my contacts from a website (she said they couldn't beat their prices) but I ordered new glasses for myself & my husband. What a great experience! How many places are that honest with you?!? I am referring ALL of my friends here! Dr. Hua is amazing! She spent quality time with me and determined what my eyes needed. I had poor service from this vision center, and I will never return. I asked them if they took my insurance, and they said they did. I am to get a free eye exam annually. The woman who did my eye exam rushed through it so quickly that I was left to doubt whether or not she would give me the correct prescription adjustment. She had me look at less than a handful of images, and rushed me when I was trying to tell if the images were more or less clear as she switched them. Then, I paid as I left, the small amount that they told me wasn't covered by my insurance. And several weeks later, months even, they sent me a bill, and explained that I had opted for one kind of eye drops over another, and now I owed them 137 dollars and change. I questioned them, but what am I to do? I will never return to them. They do not run their business in a professional manner, they we not thorough nor careful with me, and I do not think they are honest. read more

I've been going to Columbia Vision Center since 2001. I had a problem with my corneas and Dr. Hua recommended PRK surgery which I had in 2007. And all my follow up has been with Dr. Hua. Staff is excellent and I recommend them to all my co-workers. read more

I had a pretty poor experience at Colombia vision center so will not be returning. 1) questions about prescription sent via email were not returned. 2) a $30 increase in contact lenses cost was not ran through me even though they said they left voice mail (they didn't). **UPDATE and upgrade from 1 to 4 stars** The review below is what I originally provided. I've upgraded for several reasons. As you can see below, Dr. Hua personally responded to my review on here. Major kudos to business owners responding to feedback, especially a doctor whose got plenty to do. Secondly, giving the benefit of the doubt, I didn't get any messages as Dr. Hua indicated but after this review I was also contact by email, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt, phones are weird. Finally I did get my contacts, billed to my 2012 insurance premium/allowance whatever so I'm satisfied. Big big kudos to any business that responds so thoroughly to their clients/customers/patients concerns. I think that speaks volumes. I really want to like this place. I can say, Dr. Hua is great, I have no complaints about her. I saw her during my first visit in 2011. My most recent visit in early December 2012 is the reason for the rating. First, I saw a different doctor whose name I don't have now. For one thing I was not told until I was there that I would be seeing a different doctor. I probably wouldn't object if I had been told, but I was not, so you won't know if you're seeing Dr. Hua or a sub. The substitute had terrible bedside manner. She didn't say anything to me aside from "chin here", "read this line" etc. and was fixing her make-up, grabbing her coat and out the door within five minutes of my appointment, even as the girl working on my prescription had a question for her. Next, as they're going thru the payment, she said I had a $70 contact fitting charge which is not covered by insurance. Now this is explained on the forms you sign, so I understand that this fee is not covered, but also that the fitting is good for two years. I didn't think anything of it since I had it done the year before. But the doctor performed one anyway. How could I object? How would I even know what part is the "contact fitting" and what part is testing for something else? Ok, so I objected to paying for an unnecessary test that I had no opportunity to object to and they agreed to refund the fee by way of a check. Six weeks later I hadn't received any check, so I checked the email, they said it should be out within a few days, I followed up and received the check. But really, if you're trying to satisfy an unsatisfied patient, wouldn't you make a bit more of an effort on following through on a promise. Next, in spite of this, I imagined it was a fluke, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and still order my contacts thru them. I had gotten several reminder emails about end of the year insurance matters, ya know, to get them on 2012's insurance rather than 2013. So I ordered my contacts a week and a half before the close of the year and told it would take a couple days to order and receive the contacts but I'd get a call when they came in. No call, no email, nothing, and its been 3.5 weeks. So now, into 2013, I cannot get my contacts on last years insurance. I sent an enquiry that hasn't gotten a response. So there goes using my insurance that I'm paying every month for. And where are these contacts? Were they ever ordered? Are they sitting collecting dust in the office? Who knows. I won't be finding out because I'm not going to be returning here. The bad substitute doctor, misled into an unnecessary exam, following up on their attempt to right their wrong and following up on my order when they said they would follow-up (ya know, on me giving them more money)?? No thanks, this is all a lot of work on my part to give them business. read more

I originally requested an appointment online and wrote in the comments that I have a new insurance, and if they could please let me know if my insurance was accepted. I did not get a reply but got an email stating I now have an appointment. So, of course, I called them to confirmed both the appointment and my insurance. I was assured that yes, they do accept my insurance. All I have to do is fill in the forms ahead of time they will provide me. Fast forward the day before my appointment. I get a call asking me again for my insurance name and number. A call back later informs me that they are NOT covered by my insurance. This was all very frustrating since this was the original question I asked them. I not only did not look for another vision center in this whole time and wasted my time, but I also feel lied to. read more

I chose Columbia Vision initially from the VSP site as they were one of the few in downtown Seattle. My first appointment was for pre-Lasik analysis. Needless to say, after that first appointment, I knew I found the right place. Dr. Hua was fantastic. She had a well developed post-operative plan and has the experience in post-operative Lasik patients to make me feel comfortable. Two days before my Lasik surgery I developed an eye infection. I called Dr. Hua and she saw me immediately, confirmed my infection and didn't even charge me for the visit, knowing I was coming back for post-operative care. Fast forward a couple of months and I had the Lasik. Post operative care went great and I've been seeing her annually since. Appointments are always timely, thorough and the staff has been nothing but friendly to me. If you work in downtown Seattle this is a great place to go. And even though I don't work downtown anymore, I still go here. read more
