I am so glad there are many doctors in NYC and I don't have to go to a PCP at Columbia. The staff is awful and needs better training. They don't know how to answer a call, make an appointment or help in any way. They take your call and will put you on hold indefinitely all the while playing terrible music. Then they come on again and put you on hold again. They are led to believe they are just wonderful because they work at Columbia. They are untalented and badly trained and probably make very little money. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. They are impossible to deal with, everything goes through a "service" which just takes messages, they don't answer the phone at the office, return phone calls, or offer any patient care. They even got rid of their direct line (well, they won't give it out) to avoid direct patient interaction. I called dozens of times over three weeks to secure critical, urgent care for my daughter and did receive the courtesy of a response. This is not healthcare, it is a nightmare. read more

Reviewing for the ColumbiaDoctors Midtown Dentistry team. As a Columbia student on the Columbia insurance, I CANNOT recommend. Avoid at all costs if you are able to. Appointments can only be booked 5 months out in advance because of the sheer demand. My teeth are well-cleaned, but the quality of care is not worth the sheer unprofessionalism of canceled appointments and being incorrectly billed hundreds of dollars with no easy way to remedy the billing. 3/5 stars for good care from the staff at the front desk and good care from the hygienists and dentists. 0/5 stars for everything else. Here's a list of complaints from two years of care: - Canceled my appointment 1 week before (even though I booked 5 months ago), they said because of the Christmas tree lighting, and almost refused to rebook me for another 3 months (had to argue to rebook me for the same week). - Billed me incorrectly out-of-network because they messed up their Tax Identification Number with insurance. - Billed me incorrectly at a non-student price despite me confirming with the front desk that I am a Columbia student. Took 5 months to correct. - Was on the phone multiple times with multiple different people to correct billing. Every time they keep telling me "it's an insurance issue" when it turned out it was their problem. - Billed me a year later for an appointment I already paid in full. If anyone in ColumbiaDoctors or Columbia University sees this, FIX YOUR ADMIN. FIX YOUR BILLING. This is unacceptable, shameful, and predatory. You should be ashamed for treating your own students like this! read more

My expectations were high, due to this place's connection with Columbia University. I came here to see a dermatologist about my hair loss. My first appointment with Dr. Evelyn Kim went fairly well. She asked many questions and I could tell she was knowledgeable about what I was going through. However, we didn't know the cause yet because we were still waiting on results from blood work and biopsy done with Dermatology Specialists by my workplace. Due to this, Dr. Kim didn't want to give me that many injections until we figured out the cause. This left me wondering what if there's no definitive answer? There still needs to be a treatment plan. The second appointment with Dr. Kim had to be rescheduled, and the next available appointment wasn't until the following month. There was no reason; apparently something just came up. It sounded sketchy, so I asked if this happened often and if the reason was because my appointment was for Friday at 4:30PM. Of course the lady on the phone denied that. Then a few hours before my rescheduled appointment, the office called to ask if I would be able to come in earlier. Definitely not professional. At this point, we had gotten all the test results back and everything came back normal / within range. So, there wasn't a lot that Dr. Kim said in response to that. She gave me the injections then mentioned pills and Rogaine. Both I don't want to take because these are not things I want to rely on for the rest of my life. The next appointment with Dr. Kim also had to be rescheduled, because she had to complete a procedure that day. At first I rescheduled it, but then thought better of it and decided I didn't want to pay someone just to not be seen. Also, Dr. Kim did not refill my prescription in timely manner. After 2 weeks, I had to call and remind them. On top of that, I just felt that she didn't care about me or my condition. So, I called back and requested all my appointments with Dr. Kim be cancelled. I then asked if there is anyone who specializes in what I have, and as luck would have it, they do! That definitely should have been my first question when I called them all those months ago. I proceeded to schedule my appointment with Dr. Lindsey Bordone, which was approximately 2 months later. Luckily, I still have a great dermatologist I am seeing at Dermatology Specialists, so didn't mind the wait. Upon seeing Dr. Bordone, I immediately felt more cared for and appreciated her expertise. She suggested a pill that she is trying to get approved for me to use, since it's not FDA approved for what I have. She would have me take it for several months to see whether it works and once we get the desired results, she would taper me off the medication. I'm still not sure I will go this route, but I am thankful to have options. In the meantime, I will continue getting the injections, which seem to be helping quite a bit. Overall, I think it really depends on which doctor you get on the quality of care that is received, which is unfortunate. read more

I go here for dermatology and see Dr. Katy Buris all the time. Had I seen these reviews first, I probably would have stutter stepped in choosing this place. I think medical places are tricky because it depends on the needs / doctors. This is a fairly large medical center that has a lot of different practices. This review is specifically for dermatology and Dr. Katy Buris. She is absolutely the best dermatologist I've ever had. She's so attentive, always in a great mood, and always trying to find a solution with me. I recommend her to anyone who has any dermatology needs. I also got some blood work done downstairs, and it seems that everyone here altogether is very kind, welcoming, and happy to help! read more

After first surgery doctor told me I will hear good but unfortunately nothing happened. When I went to last consultation she said that she mentioned that she told me that I need two surgeries! 3.5 stars. First off, this facility's address is indeed 51 West 51 Street, but the cross streets are 6th and 5th Avenues (not Broadway & 8th as noted). Second, I'm surprised by the overall low rating. One person's satisfaction is another's disappointment. Speaking for myself, I have been coming here for about 6 years. No complaints. The first floor is mainly for blood tests, while the 3rd floor is where most specialty doctors' offices are located. The Radiology department is also on the 3rd floor. The entire facility is immaculate especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Two of my specialists have offices here which is quite convenient; otherwise, you'd have to trek to Washington Heights--the main campus for some physician's offices. I cannot praise my two doctors enough but my review is a general review of the facility. I always receive reminders in advance about upcoming appointments. I have been to their radiology/imaging department countless times. In my experiences, check in is quick, I was seen fairly quickly (not an unreasonable wait time) and then done! My nitpick or negative feedback would be the billing department which is hit or miss in terms of customer service. It varies. I've spoken to some reps who were quite helpful while others displayed behavior that wasn't courteous. They're also quick to take action so be aware of billing issues. This reflects my rating. Overall, I am satisfied with Columbia Midtown doctors, staff and Itheir imaging department. read more

This is literally the worst service for a doctor that I've ever received. Considering the amount of out of pocket money required to go there, it is definitely not worth it. Three things specifically stand out: 1) I've gone to multiple doctors for the same issue, and I received the exact same treatment. There is no need to pay more for the exact same thing. The problem still persists after 18 months, it's very clear that I need a different treatment or the diagnosis is incorrect. 2) The staff is very unprofessional. Aside from the many times I've been hung up on, I've also had them tell me that I can't receive the service that the doctor ordered (various versions of scans). I'm also very unclear on how to book an appointment. Every number is the wrong number to do that, and walking in in person isn't an option to schedule an appointment. I was told that I had to continue to call the number where they either hung up on me, told me i couldn't make an appointment, or the one time they were going to let me make an appointment was like six months out. 3) they apparently had a tiff with my insurance. Rather than handling through normal channels, they treated it was like a political campaign that needed me to get out and view. I received tons of messages asking me to reach out to my insurance to get them to accept the Columbia doctors terms. I've been willing to pay whatever they ask, whenever they ask... it's not my job to step into an argument between my insurance and the medical center (you should hire lawyers for that). read more

West 51st Street Offices - Primary Care: DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION. 1. You cannot actually speak with anybody other than an answering service - try it yourself at (212) 326-8830. On a priority basis I called 4 times in 3 days... and eventually someone 3 days AFTER THAT returned a call (a total of 6 DAYS WAIT for what turned out to be metatarsal fracture). 2. So I tried to set up a video call in lieu of an office visit and was informed on-line that the soonest a video call could be booked is in FOUR MONTHS. 3. The doctors are decent But they book the doctors so they see a patient EVERY 15 MINUTES. 4. On top of all this, the front desk staff issued a badly incorrect specialist referral. I'm shocked by all the negative reviews since I have been to this location many times and to several of different departments in this building and have has nothing but positive experiences. The space on the 3rd floor is very up-to-date. The lady at the front desk is available to point you in the direction of the suite you are looking for if needed. Both times I have been here, I have waited less than 10 minutes to see the doctor. They did a thorough efficient exam and I was on my way. Great experience as a first timer - And I wasn't even the patient! I asked for a recommendation for an ENT for my daughter and Dr. Overdevest was highly recommended. We barely waited to be helped when we checked in. The staff of Dr. Overdevest were all very friendly and helpful. I especially loved how Dr. Overdevest really took his time to explain my Daughter's condition to us as well as treatment plans and next steps. The medical fellow Caroline was also very kind. His assistant Michelle certainly added an amazing feel to the visit with her pleasant and warm demeanor. The young lady that registered us when we arrived was so kind and friendly! I don't know why my dentist referred me to a specialist here- surely there must be other options. The website says they're accepting new patients, however I've called several times - the phone rings out and goes to another department who takes a message and is supposed to email the dental team to call you back and schedule an appointment- I was told this is the only way- can you imagine TF !? I'm an employee of Columbia University Medical Center so, I may be a bit biased but I had to come here as a patient for a radiology exam recently and I ended up being thirty minutes late for my appointment. Granted, it was due to insane traffic in the area because of some hoard of diplomats, plaguing the city streets but I still felt badly because I hate when my patients arrive late when they could've avoided it. Upon approaching the front desk, I apologized profusely but they were gracious and took care of me. I actually had two appointments and I was in and out within 90 minutes. Understandable, because I was late and likely had to wait until they took care of the people who arrived on time. They were actually surprised that I was so patient, despite being an employee because I know, first-hand, some of the types of patients that visit. I've had to cover down here a few times in the past, and some of the patients that visit would arrive super late and then complain that they're waiting too long. Some of the patient added on the schedule walk in as though they made an appointment years in advance and they should be treated like royalty! Only in midtown...smh I think they actually took care of me in a timely manner, considering I was late. They were respectful and I felt completely at ease as a result of everyone with whom I came in contact. Here's a tip: Make an appointment and stick to it. Arrive early and if you're unsure of how you should prepare, please call the say before to confirm your exam prep. You shouldn't be eating before a CAT scan and if you get bitchy when you're hungry but can't eat that snickers bar because of a test, then try for an early appointment so you don't wreak havoc on the unsuspecting staff that is only there to try to accommodate you. read more

Unhelpful receptionists, they will waste your time and cancel your appointment if you are 10 minutes late. I was told there is no grace period which is BS as I've run late before. This is nyc there's traffic and the doctors office was totally empty. Nowhere during checkin does it say there's no grace period. While the doctors at ColumbiaDoctors Midtown may be outstanding, the system used to communicate with patients is a total disaste . Their system is not user friendly at all. DO NOT ATTEMP TO USE IT. I scheduled an appointment by phone to see a spine specialist only to had to cancel it becuase I was unable to log into my account for information . Since if I needed an operation , I would not had been able to reach my doctor so I just decided to move on and find another doctor at another hospital. I do love my hubby's doctor there, but please hire her a PA or NP to care for patient follow up questions or medical questions. A medical secretary is not able to handle patients. Also, hire someone competent for surgical preop procedure coordination. There was no follow through. I was on my own, making it very stressful. Finally, how is that no one calls to confirm surgery? Just a txt and message on the patient portal. It was weird not having someone tell you all workups are in and you are cleared for surgery. All in all, doctor was great, staff not so much. read more

Absolutely love midtown Columbia doctors. I see a GI doctor (Dr Lebwohl) and OBGYNs at that location and I am in awe of the level of service and care I am receiving here over the past 8 years. I've been seeing Dr Mourad and her care team with both of my pregnancies, as well as Hemashi Perera for GYN routine stuff (including colposcopy and a LEEP procedure). They took a very good care of me during both of my pregnancies, I have two under two; from their ultrasound techs to nurses to front desk stuff to doctors themselves. Their margin for error is also de minimis... my son was measuring 6lbs 11 oz on the ultrasound and was born 6lbs 10oz, and my daughter was measuring 7lbs and 3oz and she was born 5 days after my last appointment measuring exactly that! Highly recommend Columbia doctors all around, and this location in particular! read more

Dr. Katie Burris is so kind! a really great doctor. I appreciate her efficiency and aversion to medical procedures if unnecessary. She listened to my concerns and knew what medicine to send to the pharmacy and I was in and out in 20 mins. She got me in about 10 mins after my scheduled time- no biggie. This was my first time seeing a dermatologist and therefore first time here. They send a packet via email to fill out before your appt. they told me I needed to come in 15 mins before appt to fill out more paperwork but there wasn't any for me. It's pretty modern facility with iPads to check in and they use electronic system "follow my health" for tracking your own medical records within their system which makes it so easy when you want to look at labs right on your smartphone, tablet, or computer without waiting for snail mail and having to physically store records. read more

Avoid. Terrible communication and they flat out lie to you. Estella from Dr. Alexandra Brown's office blatantly lied about something. I called it out and then recently I had a problem and she lied to me again. When I called her on it, it got nasty. I wasn't blameless at all but after twice having been lied to about their policies even though I had proof that it was not the case, I was infuriated. Rather than fix the problem.......they throw me out of the practice. If you're an educated professional who leans into their healthcare advice blindly then you should go here. If you are going to ask questions and point out lies and discrepancies, find somewhere else. The receptionists are on their phone sharing pics and playing offensive music in the waiting area. They told me one thing and it was a lie that cost me time and money. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to go where there are REAL professionalss who actually care about your well being. I have never had such a poor administrative service at a doctor's office. I As a new patient, I showed up early to fill out my paperwork, pay my co pay and present my medical records. Within the three minutes of me completing all of the medical history and allergies and seeing the doctors, the office somehow managed to loose all of my records and forms. Upon seeing a nurse, the employees did not realize I was a new patient and had to administer background tests until the doctor started to perform tests. At that point, the medical team was half way through the procedure and had not checked any of the medical records to see if I had allergies since they still couldn't find my paperwork. Apparently they lost my paperwork for good since I just received a bill that doesn't have my insurance added to it. I do have allergies so thank goodness all turned out as well as it did. To be fair, the doctor I saw did an amazing job with the exam, its just a shame that his support staff was so incompetent that I will never go back. read more

Having come from South Florida for a third opinion about a serious medical concern. Feeling assured I made the correct choice for myself. Dr. Kim and her team of medical professionals gave me the confidence I was seeking when faced with medical uncertainty. I trusted the knowledge and experience of the medical team to guide me when I was not supported with my medical doctors in Miami Florida. I highly recommend taking any medical concerns to the best of the best at Columbia. You may experience a long wait but it's worth it! I try to schedule appointments earlier in the day if available to have a shorter wait time. I also have made appointments at the Fort Washington office in Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. I had a colonoscopy and MRI endoscopy at their center. Both were mixed experiences. I checked in for my MRI endoscopy, and after 30 minutes of wondering when they'd give me the barium solution to drink, I finally asked. They gave it to me promptly, and said the person who checked me in should've given it to me. It is a lengthy process, and waiting to begin consuming the solution delayed my test. A similar thing happened when I checked in for my colonoscopy. I was redirected to four different locations, ultimately landing on an empty window. I waited twenty minutes beyond my scheduled check in time, and the administrator arrived with Starbucks. That was clearly why she was late, and as I hadn't been able to eat in 48 hours, was extra frustrating. I do give three stars, however, because the others were very kind. The woman who assisted in my colonoscopy was unbelievably caring and empathetic. She was one of my favorite people I've encountered in the medical industry. Additionally, the woman who did give me the barium drink was very kind, and reminded the other attendant for next time. I think just a little more clarity is in need. read more

I've been disappointed again and again. Wait times are long, and appointments are unbelievably short and not thorough. More often than not I am recommended to see a different doctor specializing in something else. I have reason to believe that I am dealing with a chronic sinus infection. I've told multiple nurse practitioners here at Columbia doctors, and it has been dismissed with no testing again and again. One of them told me to try a neti pot. So here I am, dealing with the same sinus symptoms for two years, and I am just going to have to try someone else, hopefully someone willing to get to the root of the problem. read more

Very hard to get in touch with the correct department or person you need to contact. They rarely return your calls, and they are usually rude and condescending. A few days ago I had a virtual consultation at the Urgent Care with a Dr. from Columbia. She requested a COVID test and told me that someone from Columbia Doctors Midtown would call me the next day to schedule the test. They NEVER called me, and this was an emergency!! Came for Orthopedics department based on my doctor searches from healthgrades.com. I saw Dr. Kadiyala who specializes in the wrist and hand area. My first appointment was 6 weeks ago which took almost 3 hours. My appointment time was 10:40. I went there about 15 minutes early and prefilled and printed out the reports. It took about an hour to be brought to the back. Where I waited a while till I saw an NP for a bit and she asked some questions and took some notes. Then waited about 30 minutes for Dr. Kadiyala. He asked the same questions and did a few quick test. Spent probably a whole 5 minutes with him and he recommended to just immobilize my wrist and said they would make a brace for me and to go back and see him in a month or later. I set-up my follow-up appointment and then waited for the person who makes braces. I was called to the back again right across from the PT area and the lady asked if I knew if I had a premium and that since I did it will cost $350 out of pocket. So she asked if I had a brace and I said I did and took it out of my pocket and showed her. Her and another staff member examined and said that they were going to make something really similar and asked how much it was and where I got it. I told them walgreens.com for $13. And they said yeah you can just wear that instead of spending the $350. So then I left, start to finish was about 3 hours. Breakdown of the time spent: Seeing Doctor - 5 Minutes Seeing Nurse - 3-5 Minutes Seeing Brace marker - 3 Minutes Time spent waiting - 2 hours and 50 minutes Had my follow-up appointment today. And I was smart about it, I only arrived 5 minutes early. Paid and then waited... 37 minutes after my 10:10 appointment I was called to the back. Then some lady came in took some notes, don't think she was a nurse since she had not NP sign on her. And a few minutes later the Doctor comes in. He does 2 test and we speak a bit. Total of 3 minutes and I left. 43 minutes after my appointment time. The wait times are quite terrible so don't go here unless you have a lot of free time. I mean A LOT of free time. read more

I had my surgery with Columbia Doctors but I wasn't all satisfied with them. One main reason I chose Columbia Doctors was because it is a large organization so (hopefully) it has sufficient resources and experienced surgeons to treat patients properly. And I personally feel more comfortable with a bigger name when it comes to surgeries. I wouldn't care as much for routine or non-invasive operations. Terrible wait time - I waited 2 hours for my first consultation appointment. Front desk not friendly at all, as if they would get fired for smiling. Zero communication - my BIGGEST complaint - expect to hear from no one. Not the doctor, not the office. After my first appt with the doctor, I did my MRI and never heard or saw him until 30 minutes before my surgery. I was never able to reach him or anyone that could give me answers prior to the surgery, which is very nerve-wracking. This is the sole reason for the low rating. If the surgeon is busy, get someone else to respond to your patients!!! Surgery went well and honestly I like the surgeon a lot. But the lack of communication and the poor patient management would deter me from future visits. read more

Columbia doctors' Dr. Eduardo Granato is one of the worst physicians EVER. If he represents the kind of physicians that work for Columbia, I never intend to be treated by them. He recently "treated" my father and refused to listen to his health complains! When my father expressed concern and hesitation over taking a specific medication that "Dr. Granato" prescribed due to alarming side effects that I will not discuss here due to HEPPA laws, he became defensive and stated "if your not going to take the medication I have prescribed why are you here"? He then went on to tell my father to "get out" of his office!! After this incident we contacted Michelle Bennet, the patient relations coordinator, who stated she would "get back to us" about this matter. Naturally, given Columbia Doctor's poor care of patients, exemplified by their insensitive and in-compassionate physicians, she did not get back to us and the matter is still, unresolved. But is this really surprising? My advice to you, as a medical professional myself, stay far, far away from Columbia Doctors. They're are several other great hospitals with great physicians and excellent patient care e.g Mount Sinai comes to mine! read more
