I have been a patient of Astor Medical Group since they were at Irving Place. Dr. Kim has excellent bedside manners, is approachable, patient, caring and efficient. Medical appointments can be daunting but this office is super organized. I have never had to wait to see the doctor or to get any tests done. Arrive for your appointment and you're seeing within five minutes; if tests are required - they're done immediately. New office space is modern and pleasant (for a medical office). Their patient portal is great for pre and post visit communication. read more

Hi, I rarely leave reviews but it's essential to do so when dealing with doctors or dentists now a days. It seems they care more about Money and their copay rather than a person's well being. It's Profit over people. I was going to Astor Medical for about 3-4 years. I was originally seeing Steven and had a great rapport with him. He was also a male, around my age, and it was easy to talk to him. I guess something happened but Steven no longer works there. Astor Medical automatically stuck me with an older female doctor. Stacy. As a professional courtesy, Astor Medical should be calling each of Steven's patient to let them know he isn't working there anymore....not automatically swap him to a random doctor...that isn't a match for a young gay 33 year old. ? Subsequently , She seems nice but is an older woman and I can't relate to her...I probably should've left the practice at that moment. Unfortunately for me, April was a SUPER hard month as I was coming to the end of a 10 year dental NIGHTMARE that was caused by a bad implant and planning by a dental office and i wasn't hopeful.... Dentists were bouncing me around, not being proactive,---albeit knowing that I am mentally struggling and can't take one more day ..I need this fixed During this time... I had to call Astor Medical to get on an Anti Depressant(Zoloft) because I couldn't take it anymore. The convo was meh, very bland, Stacy didn't really offer any feedback or tips...she was just listening to me. This is probably because we don't even know eachother...I don't have any relationship with this random older woman you stuck me with. And now, I have to bond/ fill her in on my life story during a time I needed support, help from my doctor. Where is Steven ? I needed MY DOCTOR. At this point I'm like "OK, Stacy is just a regular doctor , ZzZ...just give me my meds" After the 1st appointment, Stacy and I were struggling to connect for a 2nd appointment over Teledoc ....mainly because the former dental office I was working with was a mess - they weren't releasing me as their patient. I was at the mercy of Dentists schedules. During this time I was going back in forth from Long Island and told Stacy/team that I couldn't make an appointment because these dentists have been jerkin me around and I won't make it on time. Stacy and the office at Astor medical said that I would be charged a late fee if I didn't show up. I pleaded with them that I am currently driving back from Long Island and the appointment was longer then expected...hello I'm depressed, help alleviate some stress. Stacy and the office did not care, they wanted their Late Fee $$....regardless of the fact their patient is on an antidepressant for the very first time in his life. You would think during this time of struggle, your doctor would help you out and waive the late fee.......You don't need to have a medical degree to BE A GOOD PERSON. "OMG don't worry about the late fee Fahim, make sure you're OK! Well connect tomorrow it's no big deal" .. THATS how you should communicate to your patients you, un-compassionate , money hungry - selfish assholes. I for real lost faith in all doctors and dentists. Do your own research, be your own doctor, because at the end of the day....they rather have their $50 late fee payment , then being an actual doctor...and help you. The worst. To wrap this up, I'm only writing this review because Stacy was 10-15 minute late for our 3:45 appointment yesterday and didn't even apologize. She actually was blaming me for being late...meanwhile I was on the telecom visit and waiting for her!! I have the screen shot!! Can I charge YOU a $50 late fee? I have been a patient with Astor Medical for over 10 years. Dr. Kim is my primary provider but over the years I have been seen by all the providers. When I call for a sick visit they always get me in same day. The staff is always very helpful. And I never wait in the waiting room more than a few minutes as they are very good at sticking to their schedule. Dr. Kim and really all the providers there are very caring and have taken good care of me over the year. I saw Dr. Kevin O'Hara in November 2011. I thought he was friendly and concerned about my condition (severe arm/elbow pain thought to be from thoracic outlet syndrome). He asked many questions and all while smiling, he insulted me. Twice! The first time, he asked what I did for employment. I said I wrote a children's book series. He was on his way out the door, cut me off in the middle of my explanation and said, "Well, when you write something that'll be interesting for someone like me, bring me a copy." Excuse me? He came back in and apologized. He said, "I didn't mean to say that your books aren't enjoyable. I'm sure they are." I was annoyed, but let it go. He asked about my current medication. When I told him what I was taking and the level of pain I was experiencing he said, "Whoa. That's enough medication to knock me out. This is is bizarre." *Bizarre* Again, he got up and went to get a nurse to draw blood. When he came back, he apologized for the SECOND time and said he should have chosen a different word than "bizarre." At that moment, I was over him. He wanted me to go that same day to get x-rays and then he'd schedule me for a meeting with an orthopedic surgeon he knew. (He made the leap to surgery without even knowing what was wrong!) He said I'd likely need surgery to repair whatever was wrong and I'd be out of work 2-3 weeks tops. Red flags went up as he kept speaking. It seemed that he had a very good relationship with this surgeon (perhaps a kickback for referrals?) and pushed the idea of surgery so hard before he even saw an x-ray. Needless to say, I haven't gone back. read more

When I first came here I saw Nurse Practitioner Stacy K. She was super friendly, listened, joked a bit, etc. Front desk staff is also nice and welcoming. Office is always clean and there's rarely a wait. My next few appointments with her were very lackluster and she wasn't very friendly. I think Amelia C. pinpointed it in her review: "often uncurious about the causes of ailments." Spot on. Most recently I missed an appointment that I'd totally forgotten about (I forgot to take off time for work too). Their automated system called to remind me the Saturday before my Monday appointment -- not helpful since they're not open on the weekends). Monday I worked before the office opened and couldn't contact them before I took my lunch break to let them know I would be missing it. Stacy was really nasty about it and told me I should've let them know sooner. I was shocked. That ended that relationship. I'm now looking for another primary care office. Found this place on yelp when I just started working for Yelp. They were reasonably close to my office, had good reviews, and even advertised with yelp so I knew they probably took patient care/feedback pretty seriously. I've seen Dr Ohara as my primary care physician over my tenure here. He's a nice guy with a very cool demeanor, almost too reserved for someone like myself but he's been a good sport. I do way too much research and thus have an opinion on everything which I'm sure annoys the shit out of most doctors but he's suffered my diatribes with grace. Also conscientious about keeping health costs low, which I appreciate. I can't stand doctors that insist on brand name drugs and just throw antibiotics at anyone. Should also give a shout out to their phlebotomist, that dudes like a needle ninja. Only real gripe is I feel the operatories could use a little updating, the lighting is dull and eerie, especially compared to the main lobby which is quite nice. Aside from being very passionate about what he does, Larry is thorough, comprehensive, knowledgeable, painless, and caring. His office is organized and personable. Needed to find a doctor in the city and found this practice near my home. The office was easy to work with to find an appointment. I met with Kevin O'Hara who took more time with me than any clinician I have ever met. He was extremely thorough in my checkup and in getting my medical history. Also took the time to listen to my issues and provide next steps. The online portal to get results is extremely useful but the online appointment system needs work. Let me tell you about what my experience was like at Astor Medical and the nightmare I have experienced after what was supposed to be a simple blood test in mid May this year. Within a few hours of getting my blood drawn, my pinky finger started going numb. This had never happened to me in my life before. I had a physical therapist appointment that evening for my knee and mentioned the numbness to my physical therapist. She said that sometimes blood draws cause nerve damage and that pinky numbness is due to a problem with the ulnar nerve. The numbness kept getting worse; I called the Astor Medical Group office and asked to go back in and see the doctor (Larry Landphair). He was willing to see me that day but became emotional when I told him what was wrong, telling me I was "catastrophizing" and insisting that numbness in my pinky finger was not a problem with the ulnar nerve, saying the physical therapist was wrong (his logic for this was "she's a physical therapist!"). I also noticed a lump in my forearm that I hadn't seen before and he said it was a "lymph node." I asked if it could be a blood clot and he completely dismissed the idea and told me I was the worst kind of patient. He told me the feeling would go away within a week. It did NOT get better in a week. My entire arm started feeling numb over the next few days, and then when I was trying on clothes while shopping I began to feel the entire forearm burning. The burning started to happen anytime I did anything with my arm - anytime I lifted anything, typed, etc. Then that weekend, I was at a college reunion event and my hand started going red and swelling up with numbness in all my fingers over the course of the evening. By the end of the night my fingers looked like sausages. I showed it to a doctor I knew and she told me I didn't need to go to the emergency room that night but should get it checked for... wait for it.. a blood clot. So when I returned to New York I went to a doctor's office that was NOT Astor Medical. The doctor told me that yes, it was in fact my ulnar nerve causing the pinky finger numbness, and ordered an ultrasound to check for a blood clot. I did not have a blood clot in my arm but the ultrasound did show "enlargement" of the ulnar nerve and found that the lump was a lipoma (when I told the doctor what Larry had said about a lymph node, he said that was crazy because there aren't even lymph nodes in the arm in that spot). Over the next few weeks, the burning in my arm was becoming stronger and then, when I was typing at work, turned into an intense throbbing pain in my forearm. I was also intermittently feeling what felt like electric shocks in my fingers. I started typing with a heat pad stuck to my arm. But my hand got worse and worse; it would alternate between burning and numbness, and anytime I didn't have it elevated it would start swelling again. It got so bad I couldn't type with my left hand and started doing all my work with my right hand. During this time I kept going to doctors to try to figure out how to fix what was going on as my hand just kept degenerating; it finally got to the point where I couldn't close my fingers all the way to make a fist. To combat the constant swelling I was first told to take 1800 mg of prescription ibprofen a day, which did absolutely nothing to fix it, so I was eventually prescribed prednisone, which finally stopped the swelling but not the burning or stiffness. I ended up spending July and August at home, using vacation days and then medical leave, going to various doctors and physical and occupational therapy to try to make my hand functional again in utter terror that the damage was permanent. I also got to experience multiple additional medical tests ordered by the neurologist and orthopedist to rule out other things, including MRIs for my arm, brain, and spinal cord. It was the most terrifying experience of my life, waking up most mornings unable to bend my fingers, unable to lift anything or type or twist off a bottle cap without excruciating throbbing pain in my forearm, feeling my arm burn just for doing simple things like hanging up clothes or washing my hair. Fast forward to today, I have now greatly improved and can type again and tell my story. My functionality is back and the burning is gone, but even now, five months later in October, I still experience numbness in my pinky finger and hand that comes and goes. There is still a spot on my forearm that gets sore. After what happened to me at this medical office, I would recommend to anyone NOT to get their blood drawn by the blonde girl. I see a comment from January 2018 saying they did not do blood work, so I wonder how much training and experience she had drawing blood. I am also disgusted with the way I was treated by Larry Landphair, including both his dismissiveness and his apparent lack of basic knowledge of anatomy. I went to the office after several years of avoiding annual checkups. I have a small fear of doctors (silly, I know) and I always dread appointments. That being said, I was relieved when I walked in and found the staff very friendly and efficient. I was seen by Dr. Kevin O'Hara and he immediately made me feel comfortable with his warm smile. He was very receptive and listened to my concerns, asked all the right questions, and even made me laugh. My experience with this business began in late 2001, after a previous physician who relocated out of NYC had recommended Dr. Robert Murayama at Astor Medical. And Dr. Murayama was indeed wonderful -- patient, kind, concerned and always had a copy of my labs for me to take home after he went over anything that was out of the reference range. Unfortunately, Dr. Murayama gave up private practice of medicine several years later. Transferring to Dr. David Kim within the same office was offered as an option, and I pursued it for practical reasons -- it would offer a seamless transition. I set up an appointment to 'interview' Dr. Kim, and it went well enough -- except when he visibly flinched at my mention of routinely receiving copies of my lab work. 'I don't do that, unless there's a special reason or need..' What the? In this day and age where patients are assumed to be partners with their physicians in managing their health care? I would up having only two office visits with Dr. Kim before financial reversals required me to move away from Manhattan. Even if my circumstances hadn't changed drastically, there is no way I would have remained a patient of Dr. Kim's. He didn't even seem like the same person he had been back when he actively sought to retain Dr. Murayama's patients. Instead he was cold, brusque and condescending -- not unlike many doctors I've encountered. Truly competent and communicative ones are rare, and they invariably seem to leave the practice of medicine before long. I conclude that conditions in our present health care delivery system are simply not conducive to rewarding the truly good doctors. FWIW, the phlebotomist named Cesar was a very nice man. Otherwise, turnover among other staff, especially receptionists, was constant. read more

I found my direct yet friendly GP with Astor Medical, who in my first visit spent an hour with me. She also recommended me to a nutritionist in the same practice. I've been going to Astor Medical for about a year. The medical practitioners here have been totally unhelpful. Contrary to these reviews, I find Dr Kim to be quite an unsympathetic person, though I find Stacy & Kevin to be just fine (though often uncurious about the causes of ailments here and there). I also find the staff and the receptionist to be totally professional. The main cause of my complaint is that I was having stomach issues and saw Kevin and Dr Kim on two occasions, and when I asked them if I should see a specialist, and they said no need! As my issues continued, I decided to see one anyway and was diagnosed with a medical condition that needs to be monitored regularly. Also, if you don't respond to medication the way Dr Kim thinks you should, then the problem is with whatever you're doing, and the medication certainly does not need to be adjusted. read more

After going to "Doc's" and never receiving the proper care I was referred by friends to Larry at Astor Medical Group. I seem to have become quite accident prone lately in addition to being hypo (no more internet searches!). Let's see... Jammed toe? No, broken. Jammed finger? No, broken. Broken ribs? No, bruised ribs. Multiple Sclerosis? No, pinched nerve. Hemorrhoid? No, abscess infection (GROSSER!). No matter what panic mode I was/am in Larry is able to calm my fears and get me fixed up. He also refers you to very good specialists when needed. It's true that you will have to pay a fine if you don't cancel properly, so do it. read more

Prior to seeing Dr. Kim, I had been seeing a doctor for over 15 years, but owing to her retirement, I asked my long-term doctor to recommend a physician, and she gave me the name of one whom I subsequently found to be inadequate. After going through 2 more doctors after that, and not being happy with my experiences, I asked a friend of mine for a recommendation, and my friend informed me about Dr. Kim. Having had underwhelming results with the other doctors I had seen previously, I was not expecting to find one as good as the doctor I had been seeing for over 15 years, but I came to see Dr. Kim with an open mind. I would like to believe that actions speak louder than words, and that my having been with Dr. Kim for this length of time is my implicit endorsement of the quality of heath care Dr. Kim extends to me. I have been a patient of Astor Medical and Larry Landphair since 2013. I have always found Larry incredibly helpful, knowledgable and punctual. The office staff is also helpful in scheduling appointments and keeping my medical records up-to-date. Even when Larry is not available, I have never had a problem scheduling a same day visit if I am feeling unwell. But with the move to Astor, there are all of the support staff with whom I now interact - all of whom are wonderfully professional, sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable. Personally L Landphair has been my nurse practitioner for 8 out of the ten years I've been there and he's been informative, professional and quite frankly out standing with my medical needs. Cesar did my bloodwork and I barely flinched. He was quick, efficient and definitely knew what he was doing. I've had to wait a little bit for appointments but no more than 15-20 minutes, which for a doctor's office, is fairly punctual. I made my appointment two months in advance for my annual physical. The night before my appointment, I was informed that my listed PCP was incorrect and I needed to make Dr. Kim my PCP by 9:00 am (my appointment time) or I'll be charged for the full visit. Anthony gave me the doctor's number in the voicemail. I spent over an hour with my insurance company that night, trying to find Dr. Kim by the number Anthony gave me. That number is associated with a different doctor, and after escalating my call twice to a problem specialists, the problem was supposed to be solved. The next morning I arrived for my appointment, but it still wasn't showing corrected. I asked the office manager to call the insurance company, at their suggestion, but she wouldn't. While arguing with the her, they took the next patient, so I had to wait until 9:30. When Larry Landphair came out to call me back to my exam, it was 9:30 on the dot, by the time the office manager told him what the issue was, it was 9:33. I was in the exam room at precisely 9:34. Larry informed me that he needed a full 30 minutes to do the physical and he didn't have enough time now because he knew the 10:00am would be on time. I'd have to come back. I laughed and asked if he was kidding. Two weeks later, my partner had his appointment with Larry. He was informed that the office can no longer do blood work because they took on over 100 new clients on PREP, who all need an appointment every 3 months for blood work. I've been going to Astor Medical for over 10 years. Now, suddenly, they don't have time for me. I've NEVER met Dr. Kim, my supposed PCP and the office manager is a horrible bitch. When I complained to Larry about her, he agreed, she's "difficult". Save yourself the hassle, spend your insurance money elsewhere. read more

This place is an absolute joke. I scheduled a 3:15 pm appointment for a checkup and two tests. I spent 1.5 hours from work to get there. They claim they allotted only 30 minutes for the appointment (in reality this would take way longer). Apparently there's two entrances to the building so I wasted 15 min at the south entrance since reception didn't pick up my phone call when I couldn't gain access to the 5th floor. When I arrived they said it was too late and the physician didn't want to see me. They have no rescheduling availability within the next week. Talk about horrible bedside manner for a place. Avoid this terrible organization. They could at the very least give directions in their email to go to the right building entrance. read more

Had a midday appt. My subway was rerouted, as subways are in NYC, and I was running late. I called to give a heads up and they said no problem. When i arrived, I was 10 minutes late, as mentioned. After waiting for another 10 minutes, I was called back to the counter and told they couldn't see me anymore. This is the best doctor's office in NY, hands down. Proof points: - They use computers - imagine! A doctor's office that's in the 21st century! There was even an ipad on the desk that takes credit cards. Wow! - They answer the phone and they are nice! - The doctors are great, know their stuff, and don't make you feel like they are rushing you out of the office. (Dr. Ohara is especially awesome.)! - The doctors follow up with you like they should! - They don't use antiquated billing systems or pull sketchy moves with insurance companies, sending you the bill later and/or collection notices! - The people working the front desk are not ghetto! - The office is clean, well lit, has nice art, and doesn't smell! - They don't make you wait forever in their waiting room! - Did I mention that they are not jerks?! I know... it's amazing... but it's true. I almost didn't want to post this because I don't want other people coming here. But they do a good job and deserve the praise. My twin sister has been a patient of Dr Kim for well over 10 yrs and after many years of being treated like a number in countless other medical practices I finally aquesed and visited Astor Medical Group. Yesterday was my first visit at this facility. When I first came in I was welcomed with smiles and greetings by the staff at the front desk. They had me do little paper work, since I had the option of doing most of it online on their website. Surprisingly, I did not wait long. I saw Dr. Larry and was extremely nice. After Dr. Larry spoke with me a Mr. Caesar came in to take my blood. I HAAAATE blood drawn from within me! Let me reword that I PASSIONATELY HATE going to the Doctor specifically for that. So Mr. Caesar drew my blood.... faster than the speed of light and didn't even feel the pinch from the needle! To be honest this was actually the best Doctors visit I've had in forever. I have been seen by Larry Landphair at Astor Medical for more than a dozen years. I couldn't be happier with his care and the office. Larry is professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and available. He has provided outstanding primary care and has referred me to excellent specialists when needed. I have referred several friends to him who are also very pleased with his service. The office is run very efficiently, and the patient portal is great - for communications with Larry, for getting and seeing test results, for scheduling appointments, and refilling prescriptions. can't beat this medical group, between all of them it's easy to find someone you mesh with. Sadly my favorite Doc slash OBGYN left the practice but after trying a couple other doctors, I fell in love with Larry. Great for general care, travel medicine, easy to get an appt, simple heath care.
