Great location. Amazing to have free parking in SF. Room was mediocre, and that was to be expected at this price point. Feels a little run down and is definitely outdated - nothing that's a dealbreaker for me, but could def use a deep cleaning - wall stains, mold spots on the shower curtain, broken window shades. Note that our K/Q suite did have a mini fridge but no microwave. The ice maker was broken on our floor, but there was one that worked on the other level. Beds were very firm and pillows very flat. Didn't hear much noise from neighboring rooms (we had a top floor unit). Would stay again if I needed a budget option. read more

I was deceived by these reviews. What are you people doing?? Ok, let's say you're in town to party maybe at Bimbos or just wine and dine up and down North Beach and you need free parking and a place to sleep for a few hours. If you're drunk enough then yes, this is a 5 star location for you. You won't remember how yuck it is. The location IS the 5 stars. The free parking is also 5 stars. Now it's your job to determine if that is enough to sleep like shit, have your shower tub have a ring around it with grime in the bottom and a shower curtain that smells like pee. For pillows that are so soft and thin you need three to feel like one. The bottom sheet is not the kind that cinches. It's just a top sheet so it moves everywhere. The "blanket" is some kind of waffle material the thickness of toilet paper. I can't express how terrible I slept. This place could charge more if they upgraded their shower curtains, bought fitted sheets and decent pillows, and really deep cleaned their bathrooms. Because the location and parking are elite. I wanted to give one star to the cleanliness and comfort but the fact I didn't pay for parking is something to consider. Many delicious restaurants in this North Beach neighborhood. Would stay here again. Only issues were the sheer drapes in our room need replacing (one was torn and the other was missing). I found this place 5 yrs ago and it is my go-to when staying in SF. Located in North Beach, it is ideally located for many things; Pats cafe across the street, city bus stop in front, Washington square 4 blocks away with many restaurants, cable car across the street to Powell & Market, 10 min. walk to Fisherman's Wharf, Trader Joes nearby, Walgreens 1/2 block away, 15 min walk to Lombard St, I could go on and on. Its not a 5 star hotel but if you need a clean room and a clean and comfortable bed at the end of a busy day and friendly staff, Columbus Inn is my go to. read more

Mostly everything about this place was just fine. We were attending a show at Bimbo's down the street and didn't want to drive home, so this worked great. The only negatives of our room (104) is that the toilet seat wouldn't stay up which is a bit of a problem if you're not...alert. Also, like many places like this, the air conditioner was noisy so maybe bring ear plugs. Always a good idea at any hotel. The bedding was nice, but the comforter was pretty old looking (but not old). Everything was comfortable, everything we needed was close by, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

The Columbus Motor Inn is in an excellent location in San Francisco because you can walk to Little Italy, Chinatown, and Fisherman's wharf fairly easily. The downsides are that there is no breakfast options in the hotel, no refrigerator, and no microwave in the rooms. However, the hotel is clean, has complimentary parking, and is well priced for the area. Two of the people that work at the front desk(Tony and Leida) are very helpful, personable, and welcoming. I thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with them and can't say enough about how welcoming they were to our family. They were two of the bright spots of our stay at Columbus Inn. Our room window faced a wall, but was surprisingly quiet, which was more important to us than a nice view since we spent most of the day out and about, exploring the area. There is easy access to public transportation and Tony and Leida were very helpful in trying to navigate that. read more

Stayed here during a recent road trip up the coast and we decided we wanted to explore fisherman's wharf a little bit. I chose this particular hotel because of location, price point, and complimentary parking. And they delivered. Granted, the decor was outdated, but everything was clean. This is just blocks away to the wharf and very close to a cable car stop that takes you through Chinatown to Union Square. Staff was very friendly and helpful and parking was pretty secure. 3.5 stars. Stayed here recently for a week for a conference. Located next to famous Bimbo's, I have to agree with the other Yelpers that the location is great. You can walk to North Beach, Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, even Union Street if you're feeling adventurous. I didn't think it was a "great bargain." I still paid about $150 a night plus taxes. If you don't have a car, you can get bargain rooms at the Hilton if you book in advance for about the same price. If you DO have a car - and face it, most people will be driving here - the free parking is a bonus. As a single traveling woman, however, I don't think I would stay here again. I'm all about safety. For starters, the door at the bottom of the stairwell that opens out to the alley does not have an automatic closing device. So if someone were to carelessly leave it ajar, anyone off the street could go up the backstairs. No security camera there either. From a family perspective, the windows open all the way and are quite low. So a young toddler, for instance, could very easily lean over and fall out. Although my kid is past that stage, lots of my friends have toddlers. On the positive side, I loved having a quaint view from my room. It wasn't of the bay or anything, but a sunny courtyard/park. (see photo). Also the service was friendly and the free wifi proved to be very handy. I could still check work emails when I wanted. The Hilton only provides that service in their lobby area. Liked the wide screen TV as well. The room was quiet and I couldn't really hear the other guests here. My room had seen better days and the ice machine rumbled at all hours. I did call to complain and they said they switch it off at 10:00 pm. Sheets had holes in them, but were clean. Next time I'm on the company's tab, I'm totally upgrading! read more

What a gem! I called to let them know we were checking in a bit late, and Tony greeted me by name - he recognized my phone number. I've never stayed here before, so I was impressed! He was so friendly. He was super helpful getting us parked. Parking is included, which is such a plus. The room we stayed in was huge! We had such a great view. We could see Alcatraz from our bed! We had an easy walk to Pier 39 and Fort Mason, and an easy walk to North Beach and Chinatown. The famous Lombard Street was only 3 blocks away. The interior decoration was dated, but who cares! The bed was comfy, the shower was great, the heat/air worked well, and the view is fantastic! read more

Just got home from 3 night stay. Free parking lots of spaces. Check in was easy. First thing I noticed was how fresh and clean the halls were. Room size was normal. Our room looked like it was just renovated and was super clean. Hotel mgt. said they remodeled recently. Our room faced Columbus ave. Not noisy. My family of 4 always stays in North Beach or the wharf area when visiting SF. We've done Airbnb's, the Marriott, and some random hotel that's been renamed. The Columbus Inn is in a perfect sport for cable car access, a 25 minute walk to Chinatown, a 5 minute walk to the heart of North Beach, and a 10 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf. The room is clean, basic, and what we needed for the weekend. You can't beat the free parking. We have an SUV and could park no problem. If you would rather spend money on food, like us, then stay here. We will be back again soon. read more

They even had our room ready to go before checking in and let us leave the car for the afternoon after checkout! If you're a tourist who wants to forgo the high price on parking, this place is great for you. At $295 a night, you get a clean room, a decently sized bath tub, and comfortable beds. You could get the same at a Holiday or Comfort Inn, but the Free parking is their selling point. Seriously, you can get slapped with a $200 dollar parking ticket for being three minutes past your meter. Super unfair, but that's why the Columbus Inn is so pricey. However, I don't have a car out here so that didn't really concern me. I was more so excited about the rooms and figured at almost $300/night they must be top notch. The location was great, The hallways were spotless and I could not wait to see how beautiful the actual room must be. I wouldn't say that I was disappointed but I'd say that I just felt indifferent about it. There was a table with two chairs next to a window so I sat down, looking upon the famous trans America building and that impeccable one-of-a-kind San Francisco architecture,... that was half way cut off by a pretty depressing looking restaurant named 'Bimbo's' below. Yes, just a bland restaurant, not a strip club; with a sad parking lot. The remotes were super annoying to work. If you didn't type in the channel quickly enough you were brought to that fizzy out-of-network channel. I gave up and went to bed. In conclusion, this motel is not worth $295 dollars a night. Pros: *Free Parking *Awesome location *Clean Rooms *Comfortable beds Cons: *No refrigerator/microwave *Staff seems stressed *Would not honor the price from Trivago on the second night (it was only 10% off) I'm not a tourist so I won't be staying here again. Yes! Stay Here! I am so thankful I booked at the Columbus Motor Inn. We had only 1 night in SF so I wanted to make the most of our time. FREE PARKING is enough to make this place stand out, but I was thrilled that they graciously offered early check-in and also the ability to leave our luggage in the office the next day until after 12:30. Elizabeth, who took my call and checked us in and out, was so polite and helpful -a superstar who made our stay just perfect. The location is AWESOME for walking to the wharf, Piers 39 and even 33 (Alcatraz), restaurants, cable car museum, Ghirardelli, Lombard St, shops and more. Our room was well appointed, clean and quiet, with views of the Trans America building. I slept so well here! Such a great place to stay at really reasonable rates. We had a nice one night, weekend stay here. Its perfectly located near Cobb's Comedy Club. Its within walking distance from the club and many great dinning destinations. They have a parking garage at the ground level. We got a spot right in the front of the entrance. Kind of a tight lot but my husband is an expert parker, so we were all good. The lobby is tiny and the elevator is the only way in and out from the rooms to the outside. Check in was fast and convenient. Many, many tourists obviously make their way in and out all day. We were told that we got the last room available. It was on the 1st floor ( technically 2nd floor). It was the wheelchair accessible room. The peep hole was at belly button level. Plus the room area and bathroom area were really spread out. Our view was of the wood siding wall of the homeowners association next door. It was like looking out a basement window but you're actually one story up. Very strange. We didn't come for a memorable view though. The room was clean and comfortable. We will absolutely come back again when we want a quick local get away for a comedy show and some great Italian food. read more

We were thrilled with our recent stay! Nice big room for our family of 4. The room was clean and quiet. The Inn has free parking which is a bonus. In a great location near Little Italy, parks, Lombard St and Fishermans Wharf and Ghiradelli Square. We could walk too all these places in about 10 minutes or catch the bus or street car out front. This is a great hotel for family in town who don't want to spend a ton. Rooms are clean, parking is included (rare in the area), and prices are good. My fiance's parents stayed here and found it quite convenient to meeting us in North Beach. My dad stayed here over Christmas and had a nice room with a balcony overlooking columbus. Noise wasn't a problem. The bus stop is a half block away to take you downtown, so it's perfect for out-of-towners. read more

Staying at the Columbus Motor Inn was one of the best decisions we made when picking a place to stay in San Francisco. Some of my favorite features included: -- Very large, clean rooms with flat screen televisions, a safe, separate sink/vanity area from the bathroom, comfortable sitting area w. table -- Balcony... I was on a lower floor so I did not have a view of Coit Tower but it was a perfect space to enjoy the warm weather, people watch, and wave to the patrons on open-air tour buses -- Public Transportation is readily available... the bus stop for the #30 is right outside the front door -- FREE Parking! Parking can be a bit tight but if you get in early enough there are no issues finding space. We were sure to get back to the hotel by 3pm(ish) the one day we took our own car out and were able to park on the bottom level. -- Location, location, location! The inn was within comfortable walking distance to Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, Pier 33/Alcatraz, and Lombard Street (though some of the latter sites took a bit more conditioning to access). We had originally thought to buy a transit pass for a couple days but ended up not needing it at all! -- Quiet! ... and I say this even though we were almost across the hall from the ice vending machine. It was really the only thing that reminded me that there were other people staying in the hotel. I didn't hear anyone else, I didn't hear the road traffic outside, it was perfect. Very peaceful. -- Free Wifi... this was nice for planning out the days events without going over my data limit -- Price! Out of all the hotels I stayed at up and down California's coast... this was the cheapest... and by far one of the best. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

We had a wonderful stay here, we got the 2 room suite and it was very roomy and very clean. The bed was super comfortable and tv and WiFi worked very good. The front office staff couldn't have been nicer and were very helpful. We were in the rear of hotel and didn't hear a thing. This hotel is close to everything, trolley, pier 39, boat to Alcatraz, tons of places to eat including McDonalds that my grandson was happy about. Icing on the cake is FREE parking!
