I recently lost a pet, I was so upset but I love the way they handed the situation. They let me sit there and cry and give me time before they took her to get cremated. Everyone was so sweet and caring, I was sobbing and the lady brought me tissues and told me I was okay to just sit there. After I got her back a week later, they sent me a card in the mail, it was explaining even tho it hurts to lose a pet they crossed the rainbow bridge. The staff and doctors here are above and beyond when it comes to their friendliness to both the pets and their owners. The veterinarians are knowledgeable, however in our experience, there were a couple of unnecessary tests and charges. One other complaint is that after driving 30 miles to get a stitch removed and preparing our little dog with the prescribed pain killers, we were told that the stitch would eventually come out on its own, so our time and trip was in unnecessary. Everyone here is good and professional but I suggest that if you choose this establishment, just ask many questions. read more

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE WELLNESS PLAN UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ACTUAL CONTRACT IN HAND THAT OUTLINES THE FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE POLICY. The Vet that saw our fur babies did an excellent job! I do not know her name, but she is a Retired Army Veterinarian and I would have loved to have kept her as our regular Vet for our dogs. She gets FIVE STARS in my book. HOWEVER, my low rating goes towards the administrative staff and their lack of communication skills and the hospitals failure of proper documentation of their Wellness Plan. My issue dates back over A YEAR AGO. We took our dogs to this clinic for the first time in April 2019 where we were talked into this Wellness Plan verbally. We were not told of any penalties if we were to cancel, as a matter of fact we were not even given any contract or terms and conditions of any kind outlining the Wellness Plan, only that it would save us some money. Unfortunately, a month later we had to relocate to another city. I called Comal Pet Hospital to inform them that we needed to get a copy of our pets shot records and to please email them to us (which they did). The person on the phone said that we had an outstanding payment for the Wellness Plan and I told her that we would like to cancel. She then tells me that it's a 12 month contract and if I chose to cancel I would have to pay the remaining of the 12 months. However, she said that we will still receive our dogs monthly heart worm medication if we continue with the monthly payment. Considering the cost, I decided to continue with the plan. I provided her with our current credit card information, forwarding address and I thought that was the end of that. About 3 months later in late Aug 2019, they stated they attempted to call us once and texted us once because for some reason the credit card declined. Keep in mind during this time...I NEVER received any heart worm medication. Unfortunately, nor did we receive any of their 2 attempts to reach us for payment. Now let's jump to April 2020, during a time where the world has gone to shit. By mail, I receive a collection notice from American Profit Recovery stating that we owed Comal Pet Hospital $658.48. And we also received a post card from Comal Pet Hospital giving us a friendly reminder that our dogs are due for their annual check up. Seriously, the irony. So, I emailed the hospital and requested a debt validation letter or contract showing us that we owe this money. They responded immediately and provided that we owe money for the discounts used (or services rendered). I felt that was reasonable and I forwarded payment. However, not even a week later they sent an invoice via email that in order to cancel the Wellness Plan, we owe another $329.24!! First of all, why wasn't an email notification used to begin with in the first place instead of ONE phone call and ONE text message in all of the 12 months?? But instead they waste their time with a threat of a collection agency? If we have a bill and it's CLEARLY EXPLAINED, we have no issues paying it. However, I am not even going to push the fact that there have been payments made and nothing clearly seems to be accounted for that. But now, they want us to pay for a cancellation fee for a 12 month Wellness Plan that is clearly over?? Again, I emailed them wanting an explanation 8 days ago and again 2 days ago. Still no response. I personally refuse to make this payment until someone explains to me in writing why we owe that. read more

I will NEVER recommend this vet to ANYONE. Unfortunately our incident happened a few years ago but I think this is still very important to make known, and it's something my family and I will have to live with forever. BUT one of our neighbors recently experienced the SAME thing when wanting to put their pet down as well! At the time we had a 3 year old lab who became deathly ill, we assumed it was parvo but the test came back negative and they couldn't tell us what it was. She had blood in her stool and throw up, stopped eating and drinking, and was making the most agonizing noise from her pain I have never heard from a dog that filled up our house and I NEVER want to hear that noise again. My family came to the conclusion it was from a rawhide bone that had splintered inside her, unfortunately we never found the real cause. We originally went to have her put down because we just couldn't stand seeing her in horrible pain and blood constantly in her stool. The dr did NOT want to put her down and talked my vulnerable family into spending over $600 on medication that should help it pass 'in a few days'. She didn't even last 3 days and ended up dying in front of our eyes in the most traumatic and painful way. So we were stuck with all this useless medication. We called the dr to inform them and complain about their decision, a few days later they had the audacity to send us a 'sorry for your loss' card as if they weren't the one's responsible for our dog living way past what we wanted her too! The fact our incident happened a few years ago our neighbor recently went through this same thing is absolutely insane. STAY AWAY !!! HORRIBLE !!! If I could, I would give them a NEGATIVE 10!!! They RUINED my dog for ALL FUTURE VET VISITS! When I took my dog to this vet hospital, the person getting his weight did not wait for me to pick him up and place him on the weigh table as I asked. Instead, she yanked his leash to pull him up and one of his paws was cut between the table and floor. When the vet came in the exam room, she immediately noticed his paw was bleeding. I told her what happened, she had NO COMMENT!!! Didn't seem to care and gave no apology. The paw got infected and they made ME PAY for the visit & med for what their staff did to him. At another visit, he had to be muzzled. WHAT?!?!?! He NEVER had to be muzzled before, EVER!!! He is very sweet; loves people, dogs and cats. I don't know what they did to him in the back but he was obviously traumatized due to the need to be muzzled and restrained for even a simple exam now. On a visit for an ear infection, (first one he ever had in his 7 year life), when the tech came back in to tell me what the bacterial infection was, she called it "Tuminy". When I asked her what that was, she stuck her face in mine and practically spit in my face, on the verge of yelling "TOO MANY TO COUNT" then turned around and stomped out of the room. Made me feel like the worst pet owner EVER. That was our LAST VISIT to Comal Pet Hospital. This is not even to mention the fact when you walk in, rarely is there a receptionist at check-in. Eventually, someone would come rushing up, all the while making me feel as if I interupted her. RUDE. I know Comal Pet Hospital was a great vet clinic in the past; since the 70's and probably prior. But when the man who owned it retired and then when they remodeled and expanded, it was never the same. Went downhill since then. read more

My vet would give me ) refills for the year. She wants to do more tests. I asked what would the outcome be if the tests say he has inflammation. He would be on anti diarrhea pills. Exactly! He has inflammation, give him his damn pills! We had been looking for a vet for a while that we liked. Having worked for a vets office, I knew what we were looking for and what to watch out for. Thankfully, we found everything you could hope for in a vet with Dr. Kassandra Pena. She was incredibly thorough, going over every possibility. She was upfront about costs and even recommended other places to get meds for cheaper. My pup had bloodwork done and Dr. Kassandra called me, after hours, to go over every line of the labwork. She explained in detail what the results meant and asked if I had any questions. She sat on the phone with me, after she worked a full shift, and talked over the plan for my little girl. This was on a Friday night. Saturday morning, I received an email, summarizing our phone call. She was so kind and really interested in my dog. She made me feel like this was not just another dollar sign in her care, but a family member. She is open to discussion about care and really listens to your concerns. We also receive report cards with pictures showing us that our fur babies are safe which is extremely important in my opinion. Especially with Butters as she needs special attention due to her paws being damaged prior to us adopting her. It definitely allows us to relax knowing the amazing care they are being given from both facilities. We had trouble finding a vet that would even see him since he wasn't a patient and due to the Corona Virus saga. Unfortunately after a 5 day stay when picking up my small Yorkie who I dropped off with a leash and a harness. I was instructed to stay in car due to Covid. Which I totally understand... But the negative of his visit with this establishment is the fact a young kid DID NOT attach his leash to his harness. So when the young girl opened the door, not realizing the other person didn't attach the leash he proceeded to walk/ then a little run towards the highway and discount tire!!!! You would think THREE people that work there would have helped... Nope- I had to get out of my car and chase him and lunge for him, and of course falling to do so... I called as soon as I was semi calm from chasing my small yorkie- and the term "he forgot or he didn't remember" was used... how do you do something like that! That's your job!!!! Stay AWAY. This place is ran by complete incompetence. I have had one problem after another. From the get go it was chaos, incorrect appointment times (being changed), the first Vet was explaining to me why not to neuter my dog while the dog was jumping his leg, the second visit they did not have the correct information on his vaccinations and tried to redo the complete puppy vacs, the second visit they did not have the required (purpose of my visit) flu shot which I was told they would call me when it got in and never did, after 3 weeks I called them and had to basically explain my way out of why I should not be charged to pay for another visit. Then I am told his bloodwork came back concerning but not concerning whatever that means. Then I give the spa a shot, BAD mistake, this is where the real incompetence begins, I was charged for a bath they supposedly could not complete because my 7month old Bulldog puppy somehow over powered the tech, she was able to squeeze his glands but not clean the ears or trim the nails..really, you can squeeze his anal glands, but couldn't cut his nails. When I see his ears are still dirty and nails have not been trimmed, I am told by the tech that my husband and son are lying to me when I asked if the tech gave them a reason why this had not been done. NO she did not do her job, charged me for it, and then says my husband and son are lying about what she said to them. never again...might be close to home, but sometimes you have to go further to feel good about your choices. this place is horrible. I deleted my review of July 17, 2013 because I only gave 3 stars and I wanted to give this clinic another chance since it is so conveniently located. I had a bad experience where I asked for a specific treatment to be done a specific way (due to experience with the same kind of thing in the past with this dog) and they wouldn't do it. It ended up causing 4 ulcers on my dog which they treated at my expense. I just thought they should have listened in the first place and then not charged me to fix their mistake in the second place. Afterwards, they ended up having to do the treatment the way I had originally requested and it worked just great like it had in the past. June 5, 2014: Since last year, I have continued to use this veterinarian I couldn't be happier with them. They listen to me now and they spend the time to thoroughly explain prices and options for my two older dogs. This winter, I put the dogs on the Gold Health Plan which is going to more than pay for itself. I looked at the annual price and added up everything that I was sure they would have to have and the Gold Plan came out saving me a little bit which meant anything else I had done on the plan would save me even more. The plan covers several things, but it also covers unlimited drop off visits. I've had to drop off one of my dogs twice so that saved me an additional $91.00. read more

Last Thursday our little dog died unexpectedly of a heart attack. I rushed her to comal after calling at almost closing time. She collapsed at around 5pm. We arrived around 5:15. They immediately brought us to the back, Dr McBride let us know she was gone. He has seen both of my dogs for a while now and has been great with our dogs. But Thursday his compassion really meant a lot to us. Even though it was close to closing time we never felt rushed in any way, he let us know we could stay as long as we wanted to decide what we needed to do with our doggie. I can't say enough good things about this place! Dr. McBride and Dr. Gibson are both wonderful. They truly care about the animals and their families. We have an old boxer with bumps and seizures. They take such great care of him, and they don't kill our finances in the process. I'd sell a kidney for my baby if I had to, but I don't because they offer wonderful care and options for my Thor. Our two kitties love them as well. Rowdy hates her carrier and the vet, but they're able to get her right in and out without issue. Even we can't do that! I had a few issues with deliveries from the online pharmacy and they went so far as to go pick up a bottle of Thor's seizure meds from another local clinic - at the end of the day on a Friday. They've offered to store his medication on site for me due to the constant issues with our mail carrier. I could not be more impressed. My 6 month old dummydoodle ate the end of a plug while I was at work and as a new dog owner I was completely freaking out. When I first went in Dr. McBride was so amazing making sure any questions I had were answered and left me with his card and let me know if I ever had any worries or questions when the office was closed to just email him. Fast forward to today's freak out, I remembered his card and emailed him and got a response almost immediately! He calmed me down in just one email and has been nothing but amazing every time me and phoebe (dummydoodles real name) come in!
