I applied for a BJ's CC that, unfortunately, was handled by Comenity Capital Bank. My credit score is in the 800s but they denied the card saying there was a freeze on my report. I contacted the credit bureau they claimed had the freeze and I checked my report. NO FREEZE, NO NEGATIVES and the report doesn't even show their inquiry. I attempted to call but all I get is automated menus that don't address the topic and no option to chat or speak to a human. read more

Their customer service is terrible. I had 2 accounts opened, one was a 6 months 0 interest for 6,000, and the other was a 2 years 0 interest for $700. I obviously wanted to pay the smaller one off first, but after paying 3,000 in 4 months the money only went to pay off the larger amount. I called 5 times to make a direct payment on the $700 with no prevail and no help or assistance. They kept telling me what I wanted to hear but never any results. They porpously tried to scam me into having me my account go into default so they could gain the interest. Not on my watch! I paid the balance in full so the didnt win. I buy items from Build.com and set up an account with them. I was not familiar with Comenity Bank but thought taking advantage of the no interest promotions was a viable idea. What I didn't pick up on was that when they send you the "minimum payment due" notices, that you have to pay very close attention to any of your "promotional deals" as well as what your due date is. I'll give these guys credit, they do a great job disguising their terms and how payments need to be made and if you are even 1 second late, they hit you with all kinds of fees and other non-sense. They are by all means a predatory lender taking advantage of folks who do not carefully pay attention to their account, and the minute you screw up, they got you. Thankfully I caught on to their game early enough to make dealing with them profitable and now that I fully understand their game, I'll play it to my advantage and these crooks will never get a penny of interest or fees out of me and I'll use their money for free until it runs out. Bottom line, if you do find yourself with an account from these guys, READ ALL the fine print and be sure you fully understand how they operate because there is NO GRAY AREA and they offer NO FORGIVENESS if you make a mistake. read more

If I could give a zero or negative stars, I would! This is the most horrible customer service fail I have ever experienced from any of my credit cards in my entire life! After almost 20 years of carrying the Victoria's Secret Angel card, I received a letter in the mail a couple days ago, stating that my account had been closed, due to missing personal information on my account. I called to speak with customer service today, and spent a couple hours on the phone, being "escalated" up through the ranks, until I finally reached a senior supervisor. The first story they gave me, from the lowest ranks, was that they sent out letters earlier in the year, letting cardholders know that they needed to update their account information with a physical street address, and anyone who didn't would have their account closed. I never received such a letter, and I have always made sure my account information was current. In fact, just a couple weeks ago I called customer service to update my account to my new mailing address. I asked if I could use a P.O. box, and they told me that was fine. When I called customer service today, they could not explain why it was ok a couple weeks ago, even though they supposedly knew that I needed a street address since earlier in the year. The story didn't make sense, so I asked to speak with supervisors that could reinstate my account. When I finally reached the top supervisor, she explained to me that only four days before they closed my account, they received information regarding the Patriot Act, requiring all accounts to have a physical street address. Any accounts that had a P.O. box as the mailing address was closed without any prior notice...no letter, no email, no phone call...though they have ALL of that information for me in my account. She also said that since "the system" closed over 50,000 accounts, they could not reinstate any of them, even if they were long-term accounts in good standing, such as mine. I argued that a human created "the system", and whoever that is certainly could reverse it. She explained that it would be illegal, as it would be going against the Patriot Act. I then asked her why none of my other 12 credit cards had said anything to me about the Patriot Act, nor had they closed my accounts. She had no answer or explanation. I got the feeling that there was something else going on, and the Patriot Act excuse was just a cover-up. She had the audacity to encourage me to reapply for the card! Excuse me??!! Why should I need to reapply for a card I have been using for almost 20 years??!! NO THANK YOU!! You have lost this loyal customer and my business! I'm a member of the sportsman guide and have been for years and I used my business card at first to buy thing . Untill one of the rep's talk e in to open one of their credit cards that was with comenity bank I been making monthly payment on time every month untill I his month October I sent in a payment of 100. Dollars on the 18th of October and was looking at my credit report and desided to pay it off soon on October 27 I called to pay off the card and it said the card now had a zero balance then I get a email from the credit bureau about my account and when I checked it it show that comenity bank card had a balance of 38.53 balance a finance charge .the due date was Nov 6 . and they didn't not apply the remaining balance untill Nov 2 so they can charge me for another month of fees but the card was paid off on November 2. before the due date that was November 6. What comenity bank is doing is when you pay off a high balance card they hold the payment over to the next month so the can charge the extra fee's. They are scamming people if you have a credit card from them close it and find you a better bank. To deal will because they are ripping you off. read more

Community is the worst bank I have ever dealt with. Their job is to rip you off and they are good at it. They used to send me an email every month to remind me of my monthly payment which I always paid on time but they never sent me a reminder on the deadline to close my balance which is the most important deadline. It was 2 weeks before my monthly payment deadline and they waited until I missed the deadline to let me know because I was not aware and thought that I am supposed to close my balance with my last monthly payment. They said that their policy is that if you miss the deadline by 3 days then you have to pay a penalty which in my case was 3300 dollars. They have the worst costumer service ever. I should give "No Star" but 1 is the minimum. I had a super bad experience with Comenity Bank credit card customer support. I tried to call customer support to solve an issue, but I need to wait several hours to reach them. I am fine with all the hours of waiting but all the customer support personnel are robot-like humans. They have the same response again and again though I am looking for some very urgent support. I told them 3 times that I wanted to talk with their supervisor or manager to escalate my urgency. They told that "please hold, we are transferring the call". All 3 times they just cut the line which took more than an hour to get. In the last time out of 3 incidents, I told them that "please don't disconnect the line, as it happened the last 2 times. They told that, " No worry that I will make sure that our line is transferred to our Supervisor properly". Then the line disconnected again. I requested a paper through my email, and they told me 2 times that I will get this within 24-48 hrs but I didn't receive it even after 96 hours. Very poor communication. Online banking is difficult to set up, not user friendly. No recurring automatic payment set up, several late fees thanks to this and my own organizational challenges. No "past due communication via email", instead "important information about your account" phishing sounding automatic phone calls. $9 fee to make a payment over the phone. Phone system is challenging to navigate and slow, lots of different automatic systems. Customer service representative gave me incorrect information about a "grace period" regarding payment before "double checking" and informing me that grace period was removed. Only customers whose accounts are past due are eligible for help with restructuring. Lack of organization on my part has caused me some financial challenges. Comenity did not help, and it is clear that they do not have their customers' best interests in mind. read more

With a phone call, we attempted to resolve the error, Instead, simply fixing the issue, they treat the customer like they are G-d. I borrowed from Comenity 'Smile' Generation Financial (an ironic name if there ever was one) when having an emergency root canal while poor. Their predatory terms are written in their contract but I did not read the fine print. I made two faulty assumptions, 1. that the monthly amount I was paying would eventually pay off the loan, 2. that they would have the decency to email me if there would be upcoming changes in the terms of the loan. In January 2019 a 200% increase in my loan principal appeared on my statement after an 18 month period. Predatory. A disaster for the poor. I've had an issue with them ongoing for the better part of a year and when I call to inquire about the seemingly never-ending issue the new reps cannot seem to find any notes of previous calls on the same issue. I was having difficulty with my wayfair account and called to get a customer care rep. to help me. As it happened, i was lucky to get a rep named Chuck to help. Not only did he help me with my questions about my account, he went above his job and went over my entire statement, making it so much easier to understand. Got a credit card through them when we signed up for membership at my local BJ's -- and they've been fine for that. But AAA just switched their Visa card from Bank of America to Comenity and it's been a complete NIGHTMARE. Sent only ONE card (to my husband). He called them and they sent ANOTHER card in HIS name -- NOT mine. I fought my way through their voicemail hell SEVERAL times (first person didn't like that I was shouting (boohoo) and there was ALSO a bad connection, where I could what I said as a background echo); second person was clearly in some 3rd world call center and didn't speak English well; she eventually got me a supervisor, and HE said that it would be a 48 hour turnaround like for the second card (and didn't know why they had screwed up so badly). My husband called them back at the end of the week and a DIFFERENT supervisor said "A week or two...." Then he got TWO apology letters in the mail a couple of days ago. Oh, and we're apparently overdue for the bill they NEVER sent us (unless it's the bill I wrote in OCTOBER to Bank of America, which still hasn't cleared...). Now he's gotten something in the mail today which MIGHT be the statement/bill but I won't know until he gets home and looks at it. He's ready to cancel the card ENTIRELY -- ON THE SPOT at this point. Me? I wonder what the credit rating of the supervisor I talked to last week is (betting MINE is HIGHER!). Oh, and the real irony? The only reason I opened an account with them was for the Victoria Secret (Bath and Body Works) credit card. I would pay it off in full every month. Well apparently they didn't like that so they decided to hold my payment last month for a week so that I would accrue a LATE FEE of $28.00 and Interest charges of $2.26. So my new bill is $30.26 because, Yes, they had the nerve to charge me interest on the late fee. So I cut up the credit card, sent it back to them and told them where they can put it. This company is absolutely terrible. I used a promotion on their Room Place credit card. They gave me a payment due date that was 7 days later than the promotional end date. A slight overlook on my part. I had set up paperless billing and automatic payments so I did not realize that issue until I received another bill for the following month. The interest charge was almost $300. I apologized for the oversight and asked if they could waive the fee, but I was told they would not do it. I have been a loyal customer for several years and have always made my payments on time. Here is an opportunity for them to show loyal consideration and mercy to their customer and they out right refused to help. Less than 2 weeks after getting new Mastercards (BJ's Perks), the cards were compromised. Comenity did not catch it and alert me the way that Chase, Bank of America, Capital One, etc. does - I caught it and alerted them on their website via secure message. I tried calling them to report it as well, but kept getting hung up in their phone menu system. It took them 48 hours to reply to my initial report, and their solution was not to refund me immediately and investigate like the other CC companies will do - instead, they sent me paperwork to fill out so that the fraud could be investigated. 2/25/18. Finally reached someone from Pottery Barn Kids who addresses the issue after several frustrating phone calls to Comenity. It should also be mentioned that my wife started getting a bunch of telemarketer calls the day after I put out these negative reviews. My wife's phone number is on the account so I'm sure there's enough detail in my review for someone to figure out who we are. When I asked the telemarketer how they got our number they explained that it was entered into a database which I was able to trace. THE WORST. Doesn't deserve a star. This is a fraudulent bank that one of my credit cards is associated with. Their system is always malfunctioning so monthly statements do not reflect payments already made. Then they start to illegally charge me late fees even though the balance is already paid in full. Customer service agents cannot speak English, cannot do simple arithmetic and cannot understand a simple request from the customer. I said that I had paid and gave them all the information of my payment. They were supposed to trace it, but instead, they returned my payment! You don't want my money? Complete morons and incompetant. Every month there is a bogus interest charge and valuable time of at least 1 hour is wasted each time trying to phone in to clarify what these bogus charges are. Then more time is wasted trying to explain to the monkeys what the issue is. Supervisors are unhelpful and cannot explain why there are fake add-on interest charges. They blamed me for having the wrong payment info with the bank that I pay from. WTF?? I've had the card for 5 years and never had a problem. Therefore, one can only conculde that all the employees are all in on the scam. When my account says "Past due amount: 0" then there should not be any extra charges. Total scam. Worst card ever! We had a dispute about a charge thru Eddie Bauer. We were told that no interest would accrue on the balance during the dispute by 2 separate individuals on 2 separate occasions. When the dispute was finally settled, they charged us full interest plus extra fees for the entire time of the dispute and threatened to send our account to a collection agency one week after we received notice that the dispute had been resolved. We were told that different departments within Comenity could say anything, but that didn't mean it was accurate...in other words, they have no idea what each department is even doing within their own company. In a phone call totaling over a half hour, Credit Card Service & Customer Representative Veronica (Agent # 1291) was not helpful whatsoever. I called around Noon MT to dispute ANOTHER charge on my account (I was incorrectly and inconveniently charged twice for the same purchase several weeks prior and already went through that nightmare once). Veronica was abhorrently rude, and inconsistent with her response and direction in an attempt to assist me online with correctly navigating the website so I could see where to enter account information regarding payments. After over 20 minutes of arguing with me that there are red letters discerning where to enter checking account information (no such red letters appear anywhere on my screen when logging in via Safari), I concluded that our screens must show different things and Veronica explicitly told ME that I must be the reason the website is not user friendly because she could see it on her end. I have screenshots of my page to show what the website looks like with an updated Safari browser and that there must be discrepancies because I was not able to find any red letters on my end. Aside from being rude, sarcastic, and completely unprofessional in tone and timbre, Veronica also talked over me more than several times and cut me off EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I. TRIED. TO. TALK. When asking to speak to her supervisor or a tech assistant regarding the website, Veronica continued expressing her annoyance in her tone and bluntly told me "they do not do that." She then said "MAIL your complaint to the following address: Comenity bank, PO box 183003, Columbus, Ohio 43218 along with your account number, name, and a brief description." WHAT CENTURY ARE WE IN?! I am in disbelief and absolutely disgusted with the way she treated me. Unethical business practices - try to add late fees to your account, even when you pay all of your bills on time. In addition, they make it so your payments can't be automatic like every other credit company in hopes that you will forget and they can hit you with a late fee. I have not missed one payment for the year I've done business with them, yet when I downloaded and looked at the statement I saw a $40 late fee. Again, by not showing you the breakdown of your statement online (you have to open the statement in PDF), I believe they are hoping people don't take the effort. Scammers in my opinion. read more
