DR. JOEY DUTSON is an awesome dentist. You can immediately tell he truly cares for his patients. I went in for a tooth to be pulled and he was done in 6 minutes. I was really beside myself because my little doggie chewed into my upper full dentures which I just had replaced a month ago. Dr. Stanworth immediately put me at ease by having my chewed-up dentures sent off to the lab for repair. He made some minor adjustments to them and off they went. Additionally, I had to have my lower partial made. This man calmly went through five different scenarios of options I could take in the making of my lower partial. He told me the out-of-pocket cost, from the most expensive to least expensive, for all five alternatives. After choosing one of the alternatives, I felt as though we had a solid plan going forward. The dentistry is fine but to be honest I don't really need to hear the "boss" complain about his staff while I'm getting treatment. I also don't, as an old fat guy, need to hear him whine to his assistant about old fat guys. That's... inappropriate. That said, their front office is a mess so I understand the "boss's" frustration but it is his practice so it's on him to fix it. I've had to call to remind them to send in pain and antibiotic prescriptions despite being reassured it had been done before I walked out the door the first time. That was two wasted trips to the pharmacy. I also didn't need to have to explain to the same person that I'd already paid for a full course of multiple treatments just a few hours before, and to deal with her resentment for merely being reminded. I've had to call up to ask when a missing appliance had been delivered instead of being notified when they had received it. Why am I paying thousands of dollars to an office that think scheduling, reminders, and follow ups are my job. The FO staff are technically professional but they are brusque to the point of rudeness and, again, they don't do basic follow up. These are easy problems to fix but the "boss" seems more interested in being a **boss** than actually running his small franchise business, and pulling weak ass passive aggressive crap on his patients as well as his staff. In his place I'd hire a crusty older office manager who doesn't take shit from her staff and makes sure the FO does their job. read more

This really is a Hidden Gem. I rarely ever go to the dentist because because of the combination of being ripped off the intensity of each visit. This is truly a no BS type of place to be. They don't try to jerk you around, and they are super patient and understanding. To pay out of pocket the amount of work they did on me was literally a fraction of what another Dental companies single item on the list. I cannot say enough about how Dr Stanworth really flip my mindset about going to the dentist. Extremely nice man, went above and beyond to is comfortable as it was possible. Been here several times and I keep hoping it will get better. Every time I go, they tell me I need a crown or implant and seem upset when I started to decline after getting two. I never see the same dentist and feel like this is an assembly line. One of the dentists has the personality of a potato- (I won't name names) He finished with me and got up and left without a word. I went to the comfort dental in Raytown on 63rd street. first off, the dentist there told me that she could not fix my tooth. and then when I went today, I was told that I was being disrespectful because i was given papers to initial, i was talked to crazy just because I did not initial before i read what i was initialing. she got mad because I asked her questions about how long she had been doing this job, she wasn;t even sure, she hesitated in her answer. the white girl got mad and said i was being disrespectful because i questioned how they were doing the blood pressure on the forearm instead of the bicep. so i says how accurate is the reading. she tells me about the same, so i says i will try it out at home, because i do own a blood pressure cup, and had never heard and had ever before had my blood pressure checked on my forearm. and also who ever heard of a dentist that doesnt know how to fix a already messed up crown. the dentist at this location does not. told me that i would have to go somewhere else. if you want someone who is just in it for the money than go there. if you want someone who is really in it for the love of the job, please find you somewhere else to go. read more

Had to have a tooth extraction here and thought the dentist was very good. I let the staff know about my insurance. They still asked that I pay $127. Received my EOB a few days later. They were way off. Patient responsibility totaled $53. Went by the following week with my EOB in hand to inquire about a refund for the overpayment. I was told it will be at least two months before I will be able to get a refund. Wth??? read more

I am writing this review after witnessing the experience that my fiance had at Comfort Dental with Dr. Kevin Stanworth: We don't have dental insurance so I saved up for her to get a tooth extracted. She needed this done ASAP because she has been having intermittent bouts of excruciating pain. This was her first extraction so she was understandably fearful and a bit nervous. After her exam and X-rays, Dr. Stanworth said nothing about her results. He didn't go over what she needed or could expect. It was surprising. Suffice to say, this did nothing to calm her nerves. He told her she would have to come back in 4 hours for the extraction. Dr. Stanworth sat her down, gave her three shots of anesthetic, left for a few minutes, and came back ready to work on her mouth. Evidently she wasn't numb enough because when he began to work she jumped in pain. He basically threw his hands up and said, "THIS ISN"T GONNA WORK...I can tell by the way you are reacting that I'm not going to be able to...(pull the tooth or something to that effect)." My fiance said that his words were loud enough for the entire office to hear. He sent her to the front for her refund. To add insult to injury, my girl noted that the staff were giving her unpleasant looks as she made her way to the register. She said they seemed openly embarrassed for her. Ouch. I wonder why Dr. Stanworth was in such a hurry that he couldn't explain the results of her exam, at all. He was in too much of a hurry to comfort a patient, perhaps giving a couple more shots of novocaine and allowing for a few more minutes for it to kick in. My mom has had some heart problems and some bad experiences with dentists in the past so she was very apprehensive going in but was pleasantly surprised. Before I get started, I just wanted to say that I am terrified of dentists. I have been experiencing some of the WORST pain and after every home remedy and after going through bottles of Anbesol, I could no longer take it and hesitantly decided to see the dentist. After calling around and checking reviews I decided to go with Comfort Dental. I was so nervous that I missed my first appointment. After 2 days, I had to call and reschedule because the pain kept getting worse.My first appointment, they just did X-rays and checked out the problem. I needed 2 extractions and made that appointment for the upcoming Saturday.... EXTRACTION APPOINTMENT: I was sooo nervous that I couldn't even drive. I was shaking like post-partum belly (moms know what I mean). The office staff and everyone made me feel very comfortable and tried to help me relax. The assistant was very sweet and explained everything very well. My dentist was Dr. Theurer he is AWESOME!! He was very gentle and patient. He made sure that I was comfortable and reminded me to relax. He was also very quick. He started around 12:30 and I was calling my husband at 12:51 to pick me up. This is the only dentist that I will go to from now on. read more

I went to 3 appointments here. None were particularly pleasant but I will say that this place has very late hours for a dentist so it doesn't inhibit work schedules as much. In addition, I went here because another dentist was actually misdiagnosing me and they at least got that right. Appointment one was a bit of an emergency. What the previous dentist told me was just a small cavity was really hurting and turned out to be an abscess. Credit to Comfort Dental for fitting me in last minute and spending 2 hours taking care of the root canal and temp crown. While x-raying the work the dr found what 3 other dentists overlooked. He was working on tooth number 2 and saw that when my wisdom teeth were taken out, one root tip was left floating in there infected. He pulled it out through the initial root canal hole. The entire time they were very rough with me. I have never experienced a rough dentist before but they were literally moving my head around. However, this was an emergency and I was relieved to get it taken care of. I was in pain longer than normal. Appointment two, got the permanent crown and got pressured into getting a bridge on a gap where I only had a baby tooth. This went on for some time where they even tried to convince me they wouldn't charge me anything out of pocket... yeah. In the end I told him I was not getting a bridge because I know the trouble they cause a few years down the road; and I had a gap there since I was 12 since there was never a permanent tooth, I think I will be fine. He got huffy and walked out real fast. Weird. I also got a cleaning by the dental assistant and in my opinion it wasn't very thorough and I had a light scratch on one of my teeth afterwards. Appointment three, taking care of a cavity that couldn't be fit into the emergency appointment. Refused to give me topical. Gave me a shot in the wrong spot, got me in the hinge of the jaw instead of the bottom of the gum so I didn't go numb. I immediately knew that would ruin the next day at work for me because it would make my jaw to sore to open and I talk to customers all day. Started working on me, a few minutes later I said it was too painful. He did the shot again in the SAME spot without telling me that was what he was doing. Came back, still not working, he went to give a third shot and I stopped him. He clearly didn't have a good enough view if he missed twice, I insisted he use a topical, he refused for reasons I was in too much pain to comprehend. I told him to finish up and was in awful pain for another 10 min. I went numb 20 min after I left the appointment in my jaw bone and experienced pain opening my mouth for an additional 2 days. The last 2 appointments are not things I want to deal with ever again and make me feel this place only deserves two stars. They are also not as good as other dentists at giving accurate prices. However, the first dr at the first appointment caught a problem that three other dentists doing full x-rays completely missed and that has to count for something. That makes me think it's 2 1/2 stars so I will round up to 3 stars because it could have led to a very serious problem. . If you don't typically have teeth issues and just need to find a place to fit in your biannual teeth cleanings without messing up your schedule I think this place can do the job but judging by how rough 2 out of the 3 appointments were I wouldn't recommend anyone bring their children. They have other dentists so some may be more kid friendly, it just seems like a gamble. I on the other hand am still looking for a good dentist to become my permanent one. read more

Normally not one to write a bad review but felt like this was a situation others should know about. I went in for my first visit and the Dr. told me I had a cavity and would have to come back to get it filled as well as come back for a "deep cleaning" (Never showed me or told me how much it would cost). I had a friend tell me I should probably get a second opinion since I had never had a cavity before. I went to another dentist and they said my teeth were perfectly fine, no cavities whatsoever. They cleaned them like normal as opposed to the up charged deep cleaning I was told I needed. This isn't the first time I've heard that these chain dentists tell you that you have a cavity or something up charged that you don't really need since that is where they get their money from. I'm sure the staff is talented there but just be careful to make sure they are giving you details and proof that you actually have an issue that needs to be taken care of. read more

I had been looking for a Dentist for some time and I seen a billboard on the highway Comfort Dental.I called and set an appointment right away.I was greeted when I arrived and filled out a very short new patient info sheet.The Dentist then greeted me and after a short interview he got started with a free cancer screen and finished with the oral exam.The Dentist told me in a very friendly tone of my current issues and he removed an abscessed wisdom tooth and the prices was so good I had a cavity filled. Dr. Talbot & the entire staff is absolutely the best. I called the office to ask a few questions prior to setting my appointments for my 2 kids and the gal in the phone was so nice & helpful. They let me go back with my kids durning their visit and talked explained to me exactly what was going to be needed for future visits and options that would best suit each of them. I was so impressed I set my appointment up for the following week for my first visit. They have a very good "gold plan" for payments so that you don't have to worry about not being able to afforded required procedures.... Which is a reason most do not revive the care they need for their teeth. The real proof was when my kids said they loved their experience and both feel good about going back. read more

I live in the area and shop at Kroger + workout at Planet Fitness so I pass this place all the time. I read reviews here on Yelp and decided to give them a try. The staff in the front and at billing is super nice. The wait wasn't long either. Dr. Bell was my dentist. They did the x-rays and then he came over and examined my teeth. I had 2 cavities and he told me he was going to go check in the front with the billing staff to see how much of my insurance would cover for the procedure and let me know so I could decide if I wanted to move forward that day. This was a relief to me because I know dentist visits can cost a lot and I never want to be stunned by a bill. While the billing staff was checking, they went ahead and started the cleaning. I liked this because I didn't have to wait around or add more time to my appointment. He came back later and told me how much it was going to cost. I was able to afford that and he went ahead and filled the cavities. I had to come back a few days later for another cleaning but the billing staff told me how much that was going to cost at the end of my first appointment so I knew how much I was going to pay. Overall, this is a great place and their hours work for everyone. Great staff and I will definitely be using them in the future. read more

Unethical. Avoid this place. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's the best option. Here's my story: I went to CD for a check up and cleaning. It had been a while since I had a cleaning (at least 3-4 years) but my teeth weren't hurting or anything - I just figured it was time for a check-up. They took my X-rays, and started checking out my teeth. As the dentist was checking out my teeth he says, "Looks like he needs a deep cleaning on the back of his lower front teeth." I was like 'deep cleaning? what's that?' He then explained to me what it was, how much it would cost ($100-$150) and why I needed it. They asked if I wanted to do it then, and I said that I would have to come back, so I rescheduled an appointment. In the mean time, I did some looking up about deep cleanings that raised enough skepticism in me to call and see if I can only get a regular cleaning instead of the deep cleaning. The woman on the phone surprisingly didn't give me a solid answer, but said that's not what the Dr. recommended, but that i could come in anyway. So I go in to the appointment expecting to get a regular cleaning, and one of the assistants sits me down at the counter and says "we're not going to give you a regular cleaning until we give you a deep cleaning on ALL of your bottom teeth." I was like, WTF? They didn't say that I needed it on all of my bottom teeth, and now it feels like they're trying to force me to get a deep cleaning (which does not sound like much of a fun procedure). Surprised and getting frustrated at this point, I rescheduled my appointment and decided to get a second opinion on the deep cleaning. So I go back to the place where I grew up to visit family and decided to check in with my long-time dentist from childhood. He runs a smaller family-owned private practice. I told them my situation, and they checked me out. THIS TIME, however, in addition to taking X-rays, they used this special instrument thingy to measure my gums to see if I indeed needed the deep cleaning, WHICH COMFORT DENTAL DID NOT DO. After checking out my gums, both the assistant AND the dentist said that a deep cleaning was not necessary and that my gums were totally fine. My dentist said to BEWARE of large corporate dentistries as they will try to slap you with unnecessary procedures in order to get more money out of you. Looking back I think he's right - Comfort Dental did not adequately check to see if a deep cleaning was necessary, mis-informed me about what teeth i actually needed the cleaning on, and tried to force me to have the procedure done - a somewhat intrusive and painful procedure at that. Go with a private practice somewhere. My dentist from my hometown was a good bit more expensive than CD, but it's worth it to be seen by someone that isn't going to take advantage of you and more genuinely cares about your health. read more

I have to admit I was skeptical going to a "discounted" dentist. I was afraid of the "you get what you pay for" type of thing but my experience was an incredibly positive one. The receptionist (the one with the long curly hair) got me in the same day as I was in a lot of pain. The first dentist I saw was Dr. Stansworth and he was quick and thorough and he didn't try to "sell" me more things for my teeth than I initially wanted. He worked with me price wise too which was really great considering I am a full time student and broke. The dentist who ended up pulling my wisdom tooth was Dr. Theurer. He was awesome too. I was scared to death and he just kept asking me if I was okay and what not. The surgery was going to be around 1.5-2hrs and the man was done in a little over 30 minutes! Amazing! I would recommend this team of professionals to anyone & everyone. Not to leave out the dentist assistants too, Alex and Cecillia. They were both very easy going & professional.
