Ember, the friendly and accommodating front desk agent, checked us in. He is the sole reason this hotel is receiving a 3-star rating. Upon check-in, he greeted me warmly. However, upon reaching our room, we discovered it was a king bed instead of the two double beds we had booked. We had paid for two double beds, and the switch was jarring. I went downstairs to complain to Ember, who immediately apologized. He explained that they were overbooked and had no double beds left, so they had given us a king bed. He offered to bring us a rollaway bed, which he did. Despite the inconvenience, Ember's remorse and willingness to make amends made us not demand a refund for the extra cost. As we headed downstairs for dinner, we overheard another family in the foyer complaining about the same issue. Ember was apologizing and offering them a rollaway bed as well. This is the first hotel I have ever been to that switched up a room without notification. That is so wrong!

The goat cheese especially made the sandwich for me, and I would have happily taken even more of the slaw and sauce. My husband had the smashburger and said it was absolutely worth the $18 price tag. And the fries! Perfectly crispy, and the balsamic ketchup was ridiculously addictive. We finished with the cinnamon-sugar fried ice cream cannolis, and they disappeared in about five minutes. Crunchy cinnamon-sugar shell, cold ice cream, chocolate, whipped cream, and strawberries--and even the strawberries were delicious, not just decoration. We decided to eat downstairs in the bar area. It had ha nice cozy low key atmosphere. Which was nice. We also felt like we were well taken care of there. I called the front desk and they explained that all the villas have the same bedding so bring an inflatable mattress if you need to sleep 6. The pillows provided were definitely poor, but the sheets were fair. Overall, I am writing a mediocre review because the pullout sofa was one of the worst possible sleeps I have ever had. Wifi service is limited to one device which was a negative. We noticed the majority of the light posts were not working. We walked back from the wedding and the road was dark even though there were numerous lights- they just weren't working. Location was great because we could walk to the conference center for the wedding on the outdoor terrace. Service was good although if I would have been given a credit for a lousy night sleep I would have given a better rating.

Turned on the room ac/heat unit and got the air moving and it wasn't too bad. This appears to be a Mom-n-Pop place. If you needed ice - walk to the lobby and get baggies of ice from the front desk clerk. For the price this place was perfect. It was super clean and spacious and served our needs for one night. It also had small refrigerator (though it wasn't plugged in so we couldn't have used it right away) and a microwave. Also in the room: large screen tv, alarm clock, padded hangers and luggage rack. When I spoke to the front desk, the gal interrupted me defensively to explain why there was noise. I had to run the air conditioning to mask the noise from the patio and also the road behind the hotel; the result was that I had to listen to the droning air conditioning and that my room was freezing. I also experienced issues with printing a tax exempt form and the staff finding it. The printer I used printed only a portion of the form so the staff suggested I email it to him. He said he received it and signed it and took the taxes and fees off the bill. The day of my departure, the occupancy tax was present on my bill. I visited the front desk and another staff said he found my form and it would be taken care of. An hour or so later, the bill hadn't been corrected so I called and spoke with another clerk (day shift) who stated she would look for the tax exemption form and take care of the bill. It was closer to my departure time and still no correction so I called down again and she admitted she couldn't find the form and wasn't sure if it was lost and the email deleted so I sent it again before the situation was handled. I complained to an area manager who emailed back apologizing and saying my feedback was valuable and would be used for training purposes, etc ... The response wasn't helpful considering how little sleep I got and how dissatisfied I was with my stay. Sometimes things happen but it's how they're handled that makes a difference. At check-in, if my room preference couldn't be granted, this should have been clearly stated. When a complaint was made about the noise from the patio, the desk clerk shouldn't be defensive and interrupt, rather she should have listened and, if possible, offer a solution. I have no idea what the problem was with the tax exemption form but two people said they had the form and it would be handled but then it wasn't. The third person, the morning of checkout, did everything possible to help and was friendly about it so thank you. In the end, Sue, the morning of departure, was friendly and helpful; the unseen housekeeping staff was great as my room was very clean. The door, however, was broken as turning the knob down wouldn't open it -- only pulling it up worked. The shower was great. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedding too thin. Breakfast was definitely better than at other nearby hotels -- more choices, the items seemed of better quality, and were more attractively presented. I'm disappointed with my experience and recall having similarly disappointing experiences at this property years ago which is why it's been so long since I returned.

They have an estimated value around $7,000 making this a third-degree felony in PA. I left them on the bathroom counter in room 313 and stepped out around 5 PM. When I returned at 10 PM, my rings were gone. A staff member at the desk floated the idea that housekeeping might have "accidentally" swept the rings up while changing towels. However, the housekeeping staff is out the door by 4pm. There is no legitimate reason anyone should have been in that room. And with a skeleton crew, there were only a few people who had access and opportunity during that time. The night manager acted suspiciously and uncomfortably as if she and I were very close familiars, minutes before I noticed my rings gone. Oddly she wore two hands' worth of mismatched rings showing no cohesive aesthetic at all. Isn't that odd? The manager Sachin Patel told me to my face this has never happened before. Blatant lies. Comfort Suites in Altoona North has has other reviews that show an event of theft and an invasion of guest privacy. See photos of reviews. We've had good experiences at Holiday Inn Express and this was excellent. You can't see it from the main road because it is located on top of the hill and the signage is small. It is a modern gem. The hot breakfast had their signature cinnamon rolls (my family loves them) and the buffet on this day had hash browns! Service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back!
