We were suppose to camp out at the Stairway to heaven site, but due to slight miscalculations on h2o rations. We were forced to abort the mission and find shelter in town instead. I called my handy dandy choice hotels reservations line and found me this gem of a hotel. Most important thing is price point and pet friendly. That's been a selling point for us lately specially in places that are at striking distance from Detroit. Because anything close by, our doggie/daughter will be tagging along with. Plus she loves to hike. The hotel is nice. We got 2 queen beds, one for Roxy and one for us. There's a window that overlooks a cornfield, there's a fridge, a microwave oven, a tv, a dresser, some lampshades for light, chairs and table, and a closet area to hang stuff. The bathroom has a shower and tub, a toilet that flushes and a sink mirror and faucet combination. Best thing about this hotel is that a buffet breakfast comes free with your reservation. That and a pet friendly hotel is a winner in my book. Thank you so much comfort inn for a pleasant night stay. We were well rested and left with a belly full of breakfast. Thanks again for the hospitality.

Below the Union Hotel is a tavern called Mona's which is connected and an addition to The Union Hotel restaurant/12 room hotel. There's parking along the Main Street, as well as lots of spots in the back of the building. You can enter from the main entrance of the hotel and take the elevator down or you can head down the steps in the back to enter. Doesn't matter which way, just get here. We were absolutely blown away by the quality, portions, flavor profiles, and service in this little gem. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately by a super friendly bartender named Matt. He was very attentive, friendly and welcoming. He was always checking up on us and making sure that we were always good. Service was fabulous. There's a timeline of the history of this historic building on the back of the menu. We ordered two drinks. One was an apple cider margarita and the other was a strawberry gin fizz concoction that was amazing. Both of these drinks were delicious. If we weren't driving and staying in the actual hotel above this tavern, we would have tried several other ones on the menu. Lots of creative choices that looked to be tasty based on the mix of ingredients. For the food - the menu was enticing and extensive. Lots of creative things happening here. The app we decided on was the Parmesan crusted Brussels and boy did they not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We opted for The French Dip with fries and some magical au jus and a Union Smash burger with fries for our meals. Both are highly recommended!!! The burger was served on this delicious cloud of brioche bun and stacked high with two patties (perfectly cooked), pickles, dijonaose, and cheese. The French Dip had the most magnificent crusty roll and tender meat. Then there are these amazing Parmesan parsley fries that are perfectly cooked and served hot! We could have eaten an entire plate of these. To go boxes were needed. Big portions. We couldn't fit dessert! The bill does come with some tasty Andes mints. Prices here are extremely reasonable! I can't stress enough about how absurd it is that this small town has such a hidden treasure of a place where the food is beyond amazing. This place is a full package. If you live anywhere within an hour or even two, come here!! You won't regret this decision. Scrumptious!!!!

I got tired of asking. wifi is useless but i never use it. This place used to be very special to us until one of the co-owners didn't show respect for an issue. We stayed there 2-3 times a year. All over an overcharge they refused to do a compliment refund or anything. We even agreed to a portion of it. Still nothing. So what could've been fixed with less than $10 will now cost them $4-5k because our friends were going to reserve a whole portion of a section for a wedding in the fall. Plus use the resort and pay for the reception area and food. maybe you should listen to your customers after all and stop raising prices

Plenty of parking and easy to find. Close to the train - it came by a couple times (while we were awake) didn't notice when sleeping. They do provide ear plugs if you are super sensitive - they were right by the bedside we didn't use them. Beds were good - not great. Pillows a little thin, again - good not great. They are pet friendly and they are Non-Smoking. Both of which we appreciated. I did not bring my pup - but it appears it was $10 extra a night. They offer breakfast but only on the weekend (stay away from TOPS DINER). My only real complaint - the room smelled a little musty. Not terrible just noticeable enough when we first walked in. Turned on the room ac/heat unit and got the air moving and it wasn't too bad. This appears to be a Mom-n-Pop place. If you needed ice - walk to the lobby and get baggies of ice from the front desk clerk. For the price this place was perfect. It was super clean and spacious and served our needs for one night. It also had small refrigerator (though it wasn't plugged in so we couldn't have used it right away) and a microwave. Also in the room: large screen tv, alarm clock, padded hangers and luggage rack. I would use again if in the area.

When I spoke to the front desk, the gal interrupted me defensively to explain why there was noise. I had to run the air conditioning to mask the noise from the patio and also the road behind the hotel; the result was that I had to listen to the droning air conditioning and that my room was freezing. I also experienced issues with printing a tax exempt form and the staff finding it. The printer I used printed only a portion of the form so the staff suggested I email it to him. He said he received it and signed it and took the taxes and fees off the bill. The day of my departure, the occupancy tax was present on my bill. I visited the front desk and another staff said he found my form and it would be taken care of. An hour or so later, the bill hadn't been corrected so I called and spoke with another clerk (day shift) who stated she would look for the tax exemption form and take care of the bill. It was closer to my departure time and still no correction so I called down again and she admitted she couldn't find the form and wasn't sure if it was lost and the email deleted so I sent it again before the situation was handled. I complained to an area manager who emailed back apologizing and saying my feedback was valuable and would be used for training purposes, etc ... The response wasn't helpful considering how little sleep I got and how dissatisfied I was with my stay. Sometimes things happen but it's how they're handled that makes a difference. At check-in, if my room preference couldn't be granted, this should have been clearly stated. When a complaint was made about the noise from the patio, the desk clerk shouldn't be defensive and interrupt, rather she should have listened and, if possible, offer a solution. I have no idea what the problem was with the tax exemption form but two people said they had the form and it would be handled but then it wasn't. The third person, the morning of checkout, did everything possible to help and was friendly about it so thank you. In the end, Sue, the morning of departure, was friendly and helpful; the unseen housekeeping staff was great as my room was very clean. The door, however, was broken as turning the knob down wouldn't open it -- only pulling it up worked. The shower was great. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedding too thin. Breakfast was definitely better than at other nearby hotels -- more choices, the items seemed of better quality, and were more attractively presented. I'm disappointed with my experience and recall having similarly disappointing experiences at this property years ago which is why it's been so long since I returned.
