Unfortunately, due to lack of precautions, he fell out bed and broke his hip and had to have surgery which had him back in this rehab and ended up being there for 2 months. Physical therapy was almost nonexistent for the last month and a half, so he stayed in bed most of the time. He was often left soiled and needing to be changed and wasn't helped out of bed. We had family visit him every day and had we not, I can't imagine how bad the care would have been. My dad is legally blind and needs help eating, or be served finger foods., I came for breakfast one morning and he was sitting alone, in bed with a tray in front of him that just had a cup of coffee dumped all over the meal. He was unable to eat one to help him eat. He developed 2 bedsores - one a stage 3 - because he was not moved frequently enough. Most of the staff was annoyed to be asked to help. The wound care nurse and one younger male CNA were great, everyone else was not. The office staff also said that insurance had denied claims and had us pay $3000, only to find out insurance never denied the claim and actually paid it. Over a month later I'm still waiting on refund. Terrible on almost all fronts!

I would never recommend this place to anyone. The staff and management should be ashamed for how badly they treat these people to the point it's inhumane.

The rehab staff is excellent. All of the staff has been very helpful and accommodating. Food could be better but we have found we fill in for that as well. This is the best option we have found and far better than other facilities we toured. I recommend it for your loved ones.

All starches and no protein no fresh vegetables. One time it was spoiled. Fruit is always from the can. Ask the residence, what they want to drink? Instead of always serving Kool-Aid! The staff shouldn't have to apologies about the bad food they delivered every day and every meal! The room is depressing looking. The furnishings are old and dark. They can make it more cheerful by hanging some pictures and make the room look more welcoming. The staff are nice. Some of them are more attentive than others.

Be warned They are chronically understaffed. If you don't mind you loved one waiting 30 minutes…read morefor a response on their nurse call buttion this might be a place for you. The issue here is the call system was working, it showed the call at the nurses station, but there was no alarm after 10 minutes of being not answered. The facillties service level is it should be answered in 10 minutes. My relative was helped into the bathroom and forgotten for an hour in his wheel chair. He could not signal for help. The food looks like the cheapest food they could find. As a good point they made efforts to meet dietary requests, as they should. The staff was helpful when they were available. My guess is the money is being siphoned off into director salaries and not being used for everyday staffing. The excuse was they were short staffed that day. If it only happend once I wouldn't be warning other folks this this review. Something happend every day. We are looking for other facilities.

Medicare coverage ended on 7/4 Because we needed to find a Memory Care Facility for him, we paid the estimate given of $1424 for the additional 4 days. We have now received an additional billing of $1245.92 for therapies done on those 4 days We were never given an estimate for this amount. We only expected the room and board for those 4 days till we had a place for him to go. In general husband's care was marred by a general lack of communication. Never met or conversed with a physician. Husband was itchy and had a rash on the weekend, without seeing him in person (that I know of) an antiviral was prescribed on the chance he had shingles. When I asked days later, I was told he did not have shingles. I had difficulty getting information even re: his showers. There was a team meeting re: husband's care ... Notice was given to husband who put it in a drawer and never gave it to me DEMENTIA... In general I had difficulty reaching administrative or medical personnel....frequently not on site. This facility needs an active Patient advocate.

At the same time my mother was in hospice for metastatic breast cancer. I had to divide my time between both facilities. Half the time there was no one at the front desk to allow me entrance to the facility. We would have to wait for someone to notice us standing at the door. On one occasion I was there early enough to actually see the "physical therapist " in his room. She placed a weight in his right hand and told him to lift it. He was paralyzed on the right side so she just removed the weight and said ok for today. The next day I was told that he had fallen out of bed during the night and found the next morning. The head nurse told me that they placed a mat next to the bed in case he fell out again. There were no rails on his bed and they could not explain why rails were not supplied. After I filed a second complaint about the lack of care I received a call about 5:00 am to be told he was being transferred to a hospital because he was unresponsive. They could not tell me which hospital he was being taken to. After multiple phone calls I located him at Lovelace downtown. When I arrived he was receiving CPR. He passed away at 9:11 am after several attempts at resuscitation. I was told that he was heavily sedated that might have been a contributing factor. I was not given an option of nursing homes when he was released from his initial hospitalization, but Genesis' reputation is terrible. Please don't allow your loved one face such irresponsible treatment.
