We were fortunate to connect with Lauren from Visiting Angels while my Mother was in a rehab…read morefacility due to a broken hip. Once Mom was able to return home we knew she would need assistance during the day while we were away. Lauren was mentioned during a support group for a rare disease my Mother has. She was very thorough, communicative and listened to what my Mother needed. It took a reasonable amount of time to find the right caregivers that meshed well with Mom. But, that was expected, as new people enter one another's lives it takes time to find the right fit. Lauren's team literally saved her life. Part of Mom's neurodegenerative disease impacts her ability to chew, and swallow. While taking her morning vitamins one day, Mom began choking and the visiting angel with her immediately knew what to do. Had the caregiver not been with Mom that day she wouldn't be us. Unfortunately because the disease continued to progress we eventually had to find a suitable home to provide her with 24 hour assistance. Had Mom's disease not progressed, we would not have stopped working with Lauren and her Visiting Angels team. Lastly, I believe SD Visiting Angels was previously owned and operated by someone else, prior to Lauren taking ownership. I cannot speak to the caliber of the earlier company, however, Lauren is a knowledgeable, genuine and caring person. We are thankful we were able to work together to source caregivers for our loved one.

They weren't the cheapest company we used but they were by far the best and well worth the few extra dollars an hour for peace of mind. Though they do not guarantee coverage if a caregiver gets sick, they don't push someone who is sick to bring their germs in to your home (Yaye!) and they do their best to send a qualified replacement. One of our caregivers found that they had a flat tire before work and the company paid to Uber her to our house (no small distance). Who does that?! Every one they sent our way was careful and knowledgable. A great company to work with for in home care.

I hope my review inspires others to follow the instructions from their physical therapist after in home visits. As I left a positive review based on our , my mom's and mine as care giver first experience. From start of Eli's physical therapy last November 2016 through Mid January 2017 my mother had stopped needing her walker, and takes her cane as security only on leaving the house. She stayed with exercise plans Eli had shown and trained us to do. 6 days a week 20 minutes to 30 minutes a day . We have had Eli come back for a review of mom's therapy, and general condition especially mobility and balance. The review has been engaging some new exercises, alterations to old ones, adjustments for sore knee. Valuable help and wonderful service. Eli is super patient and professional. My mother lives in an assisted living home, and there was some confusion over the paperwork for her brand-new wheelchair. I had spent quite a while on the phone with the head nurse, who assured me they had no paperwork and no proof that the new wheelchair we had purchased for my mother was even on the premises. Instead, I was told they believed she was using an older wheelchair that had been provided by hospice and that it had to be returned to hospice immediately. My heart just sank. I felt frustrated because I honestly felt like what I was saying wasn't being heard. I was being told they had paperwork that showed something completely different, and I started to feel defeated. Not only was I being told I might have to pay for the six months they believed my mother had been using the hospice wheelchair, but I was also being told I would need to purchase a new wheelchair for her. That was a huge financial double whammy, and I was honestly beside myself. When Kayla heard how upset I was, she didn't hesitate. She immediately jumped into action. She was calm, reassuring, and never made me feel like I was on my own. One phone call later, and in less than 20 minutes, the entire situation was resolved. The biggest thing I walked away with wasn't just that the problem got fixed. It was how Kayla made me feel. She made me feel taken care of. She made me feel protected. When you're trying to take care of an elderly parent, that kind of compassion means everything.
