Easily mistakable for one of the neighboring Chelsea art galleries, you'll step through the portal of this store into a futuristic cave that carries this brand that is a staple with the fashion elite. Whilst some Comme Des Garcon traditionalists scoff at the Play collection for it's graphically-driven designs, I'm definitely a fan. The staff was very accommodating and helped me pick out a pair of sneakers that will enhance my wardrobe this season. I am a bit biased because I think Rei Kawakubo is a genius and one of my favorite designers. The clothing is definately not for everyone, but the space is amazing and I always love to see what that mind of hers (as well and Junya and Tao) come up with. I am sick of all the designers out there who just "do their take" on a dress that has been done 1,000 times over. When you come here you can see the true potential of fashion and clothing truly as art. The space is very cool and I love the non-descript entrance. A bit out of the way, but always worth the trip. If I could give this review a 10/5 stars I would. My gf and I were in NYC on vacation for my birthday week. Being that Rei Kawakubo is my favorite designer, we just had to stop by the Comme des Garçons store. At first we missed it cus we didn't expect the outside to look the way it did but the tunnel leading you into the store was like walking into a spaceship. As soon as I get inside I was greeted by a sales associate. Everyone was well dressed of course. My girlfriend and I walk around the store looking at the different lines (Homme, Homme Plus, Play, Junya, etc.) and the first 5 minutes I'm already extremely overwhelmed. As I was putting down this green hat I was trying on, Sachi, one of the very stylish sales associates there came up to me and said "maybe the navy one would be better since you would be able to do more with it." I appreciated her input and from there she started helping my girlfriend and I out. Just two days before, (March 1st) the hyped CDG x NIKE Vapor Max released at 9am and it was unfortunate that we landed at 3pm. As soon as I landed I called the store and asked if they had any sizes left and I was informed that they didn't have any. I was hoping that I could've gotten my hands on a pair of those since the first time I saw previews in October! I thought I had given up on those, until Sachi looked at my shoes and asked what size I am. I said I was an 8.5-9 and she told me they still had some VaporMaxes left, despite the fact that they were not on display anymore. My eyes lit up and I was filled with excitement that they still had my size. I tried them on and decided right away that I would get them. She then proceeded to help my girlfriend out with a pair of shoes that she decided to get as well. I went into the fitting room with one pair of pants, and after about an hour in there I ended up trying 3 beautiful pairs of Homme Plus trousers on thanks to Sachi's assistance and as difficult it was for me to say no to the pants, I had to control myself a little bit and hope that they would be there the next time I came back. I thanked Sachi for the help and told her that it was my birthday and that she definitely made my day that much better! She gave us her card and I told her that the next time I'm in NYC (hopefully in October) I would come back and look for her! Great customer service and great product. Rick and I had to check out this upscale clothing boutique solely because of the entrance way. Ensconced along Chelsea's 22nd Street gallery district, the clothing store sports one of the best-designed and most futuristic doorways I've ever seen or walked through. Walking into the store feels like you're walking down a passageway on the Death Star, almost. Inside the store, the clothes are displayed like you're in an art gallery or museum. We didn't check out the wares or price tags; we just walked in, set down our coffee cup at the checkout (They won't let you walk around with a beverage.), and checked out the space. Beautiful, and a solid use of a formerly industrial building. The staff is amazing. The doorman -- there is one -- didn't blanch when he saw we were just there to gawk and design geek out, and for that, he gets several Heathpoints. Go for the door. Stay for the fashion. read more

True. Sometimes i feel like store clerks are not doing their jobs as they should. I have to blame them because it must stem from an inferiority complex as they are around all those nice designs without any real money to possess them. Comme des garcons is a unique brand and it is only catering for people who have a high fashion sense -unlike louis vuitton or versace which are both disgusting and awfully overrated. So i don't think the items here are overpriced especially when one makes a comparison of the price range of the items between here and say perhaps Dior 57th or Dolce&Gabbana flagship on 5th. Though you will see less fake garments of this brand perhaps because the imposters don't have a profound enough knowledge of the french orthographe to be convincing. read more

This is one of my favorite stores in not only NYC but the world. Comme des Garçons is an impressive store. It's different than anywhere else you would see. The entrance in itself is worth going for. When we went in the employees were attentive and quite helpful. They were constantly offering help and organizing the store. One employee even offered to show us the look book in hopes to find more things we wanted. Everything we tried on was carefully cared for. Overall great experience!! read more

One of my expensive taste friend was in town and wanted to check out this store for a pair of shoes from last years' collection. we came here. it was totally IMPRESSED! it's a fashion store. My expensive taste friend ( yes i am going to referring him like this ) was dying to get this pair of shoes and he claimed he was not able to find anywhere online/store. once again it was a disappointment. They don't carry anything pass the season ! According to my friend this is a brand only if you are truly in the fashion industry would know. of course not mainstream. Wow, seeing a lot of hate for the staff here. Not my experience with the store at all. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, eager to help with whatever you needed and weren't rude in any way. The store is very well stocked, having pretty much the entire PLAY line in stock as well as some others like the SHIRT and HOMME lines along with a wide selection of fragrances. The clothing and accessories are very pricy but for a high end brand like this it's too be expected. Best place to shop for Garçons in my opinion because Nordstroms sell out of everything so fast and rarely have stuff in store to try on. If they don't have something for whatever reason, check out Dover Street Market, they have a ton of Garçons clothing along with a handful of other high end brands. Decided to splurge on a t-shirt and a wallet to the tune of $300 and change. Was it worth it... without a doubt, yes! You are paying for the experience. The service, the staff, the ambiance, the entire aspect of this store -- really like an art gallery -- cannot be duplicated in very many places in the USA. Each creation was treated like a special work of art and indeed it was. It is well worth the walk up 22nd Street to find it! Short of going to Japan, you are not going to get an experience anything like this in very many places. The quality, the attention to detail and the beauty of the staff and the products cannot be described. Also, many of the items are unisex -- including the fragrances and t-shirts -- they will give you a sample shirt to try on so the actual garment is unworn by anyone but you. The dressing room is to die for -- just trying things on is a sublime experience. The leather goods and accessories (many made in Spain) are utterly stunning and well worth the extravagance. I could go on an on -- but it is not for everyone nor should it be. I am not advocating that everyone should buy a $145 black t-shirt -- it is only for those who appreciate the opportunity to experience such things in life. read more

This place really is still living in the 80's. I love that every time I shop at this store it is a horrible experience. I was being followed around by an overzealous hourly employee, and then the sales lady gives me the wrong item. I get all the way home and then have to take a car right back to the store to get the correct item, and then a car ride back home. No apology, just an employee standing off to the side thinking that this incident was somehow funny. Another store scratched off the list. The NYC elevated shopping experience is non-existent. This store truly needs some re-education on customer tolerance training for their entire staff. Worst shopping experience of 2019., and I do hope that customers avoid this antiquated relic of a destination like the plague. Ok, whats with the negative reviews? I usually go all stinky because it's close to my gym and like things to be done before i go back home. Rei kawakubo is genius and you just have to go with it when you try on the clothes. Ive been collecting cdg for awhile and theyre masterpieces. Sometimes i will find a vintage piece online and itll be so complicated that i have to bring in for help to figure out how to wear it. The staff knows i didnt buy from them but theyll still help me because they want me to enjoy it. There have been times when ive called to find a piece from a past season ive been waiting to go on sale and if they dont have it, they point me to store that might. If that's bad behavior, jeez.
