I called to get an appointment with them since I had been sick with sore throat coughing headache…read moreetc.... they did a TeleMed conference with me with a Doctor Who just kept on insisting that I probably have the coronavirus, I was just tested the day before and it was negative. But he made me come in to get tested anyway even though I had mentioned I'm pretty sure that's not what it is. When I made the appointment with them they told me that they wanted to do another Coronavirus test and I informed them that I had just had one the day before that came back negative. They insisted that I have another test and to drive in the back and someone could come out to swab my nasal cavity and do a rapid test.. In the back there was potholes, the place looked like the back of any crap hole that you might see anywhere, no signs, cones, no cameras etc. did not feel safe... actually thought I was in the wrong place so called and they said oh no, you're in the right place. Glad there were no car Jackers nearby. Anyway, the rapid test came back negative so they insisted that I take another test that they could send off for results, yeah another drive behind the business looking at dumpsters and homeless people, no offense. I told them that what if this is not what is wrong can you just see me and help me relieve my symptoms. I had to insist on a strep test which they finally agreed to. Even though the lady that swabbed me was very nice, as well as the one who took my nasal sample, she did not do an effective swab, when you swab for strep throat you swab the throat and the side, not run the swab back-and-forth over the top of the tongue which made me gag... and I did not have strep. The doctor did prescribe me two pills, but nobody came out to tell me what they were for, what the side effects were etc.... I just wanted to tell them I do not have a goddamn coronavirus! Unfortunately, they only came up with a pre-diagnosis which they thought was coronavirus and was not! But they would not let it go ...it's almost as if they wanted it to be that. I have an idea, since I passed the rapid test, why don't I just come in and get a real exam! I did pay for an office visit and never stepped foot in the damn place! I will not go there again, they might have some great reviews from people that felt better after they left there, but I felt like they were just trying to take my insurance companies money by offering test after test after test. What a disappointing visit! Not everybody that is sick has Covid!!!!!! It was literally like the McDonald's of urgent care, without the hot fries. UPDATE.... After I complained to the front office, the owner of the business contacted me and have me call one of the employees there named Dr. Romeo... Now HE was a pleasure to speak to... he acknowledged my concerns, and he listened to what I had to say. I think he was also very disappointed in my perception of the place, and the care that I received\didn't receive. He was not belittling, or patronizing, he seem to take to heart what I have to say about my perception. He also stated that they would work on the back to be more accommodating to the new testing "era". In addition, after hearing of all my symptoms and why they had to go through he was surprised that I had to go through it! Final thoughts said, he finally got me the antibiotic that I needed after reevaluating, and I felt he was very genuine. Mistakes happen, we can call them learning opportunities, and hopefully urgent care at Druid Hills learn something from this.

I had read about them in "The Price we Pay", by Marty Markary, MD, retired Johns Hopkins surgeon and critic of America's health care system. He saw Iora as a light in the dark and dirty world of medical greed and profit. With optimism, I joined, happy to leave my conventional (read: too busy and careless) old line practice of two decades. There was the Piedmont primary physician who had ignored my husband's out-of-whack liver results for weeks until he be specialist sounded the alarm that he needed emergency surgery, all indicated by the blood results the primary had ignored, despite numerous unreturned phone calls. We both left that practice that had been characterized for years by the doctor's tardiness and unresponsiveness. I tried Emory's Primary Care. This time I got a newly minted MD, marking time in primary care until she could qualify for one of the lucrative specialties, like cosmetic surgery. She misdiagnosed a chest x-ray and had an assistant call me and casually ask what I wanted to do about my aortic aneurism! When I requested a call from the doctor, I was told she was out for the week, but wouldn't talk to me on the phone anyway, so I had to make an appointment. A minute before, the non-physician, had wrongly informed me that I had a deadly condition that might rupture without warning and kill me. I got a recommendation for yet another old-line practice that I didn't know was being bought out by private equity, expanded to multiple strip mall locations, all of which were bare bones - a doctor, receptionist, nurse, and equipment to take vitals - which I have at home. There was another that was by subscription, requiring use of an app. Silicon Valley trying to uberize, gamify and degrade another business. Now comes Iora, for which I had hopes. After about a year, most of the care involved nurse-practitioners giving ridiculous, inappropriate and useless advice probably gleaned from Instagram influencers. The first problem, and it's a big one, is that they have none of the important diagnostic equipment that medical practices used to have as standard. So the basically healthy patient ends up spending all their time making appointments at hospitals and imaging centers. But at least everyone was friendly and pleasant. Their advertising touts an employee called "health coach" which also sounds like an Instagram influencer. I didn't like the location, a long, complicated drive, but at least it was a free-standing building with plenty of parking in a big box store mall. I was greeted immediately and waited only a few minutes. The doctor was a very pleasant young woman. My history was taken by a third person, who typed the conversation into the computer. It was better that the doctor wasn't focused on entering data instead of looking at me. So far, so good. I had no medical complaints, but just wanted to have a base visit. Then the phlebotomist tried to draw blood. She was terrible. Had to stick me repeatedly, ignored my instruction that my right elbow vein can't be accessed. I was black and blue and she only got half the blood required. I stayed for two years. One day I got a letter that Iora is now One Medical, purchased by Amazon for $3.9B. Next visit, the office was even more stripped down. No stenographer, no health coach. Just the doctor and me. She's taking notes, just like in the past. There was still no ECG or ultrasound, no bone scan equipment, no vein-finder (which Amazon sells at a low price, and could have made the blood draw easier. I am driving 30 miles each way in heavy highway construction for no reason. The doctor orders normal annual tests at a hospital complex. It was left to me to spend hours navigating what was likely the world's worst phone system. One Medical had no employees to handle this burden. Forgot to mention that I did come in once with swelling and pain in my leg. The Nurse suggested physical therapy, with no diagnosis. Then she suggested an x-ray. Of course they have no x-ray machine, something available at most medical offices, even urgent care walk-ins. I had been sent on several missions for imaging, only to find there had been no change since the last one. I'm becoming suspicious that One Medical has a financial relationship with certain specialists and facilities. I have moved to a concierge practice, which I've visited once and was rushed, wasn't given 24-hour contact info or a list of services as promised and my first complete physical will only take 30 minutes. US medical system is all profit and little actual medical care. No wonder there are so many Instagram stars.

I did not call your office to request any change, nor did I receive any confirmation email or phone call regarding this rescheduling. When I contacted your office to ask about this issue, I was told that the change was made at the patient's request, which is incorrect. I clearly stated that I did not request any change and asked how my appointment could be moved without my authorization or notification. Despite this, I was informed that nothing could be done, even though the mistake was not mine. I then politely requested that the staff check with the doctor to see if I could come at any time on my original appointment date, as I am flexible. I was told that the staff member would check with the doctor and call me back. Unfortunately, I never received a call. When I followed up later the same day, I was told that the staff member was still "in a meeting with the provider." When I called again several hours later, I was told to hold, and then informed that she "did not mean to call" me at all. This response was extremely dismissive and disrespectful. As of now, I am still waiting for a callback. The lack of communication, accountability, and basic courtesy from the front desk staff has been very disappointing. This situation reflects very poorly on your office's patient service standards. I hope this matter can be reviewed seriously and corrected as soon as possible. I would appreciate confirmation of my appointment status and an explanation of how this situation occurred.

However, after being taken to the exam room and changing into a paper gown, I waited nearly 45 minutes alone without anyone checking in. It was uncomfortable and left a poor first impression. When I finally saw Dr. Soufi, she apologized for the delay and was pleasant, but I didn't feel my concerns were fully heard. I discussed a history of ovarian cysts, recent symptoms, and questions about perimenopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). My concerns about the cysts were not evaluated further, and no ultrasound or additional testing was ordered. What troubled me most was being told I would likely never be a candidate for HRT simply because I had leukemia. Leukemia is not a hormone-sensitive cancer, and many blood cancer survivors can be considered for HRT based on their individual medical history. I was surprised that such a definitive statement was made without discussion of my specific circumstances or a willingness to explore the latest evidence or consult with my oncology team. During our conversation, I also shared the emotional impact my cancer treatment had on my fertility. I was told that I could "just adopt." While I'm sure the comment was well-intentioned, it felt dismissive of a deeply personal loss and lacked the empathy I needed in that moment. After the exam, we continued our discussion in her office, which was extremely cluttered with paperwork, empty water bottles strewn about, and patient records visible on the desk. That added to my discomfort. I truly respect that many patients have had wonderful experiences with Dr. Soufi, particularly in obstetrics. My experience, however, was not a good fit for my gynecologic and menopause care. I later sought a second opinion, where my concerns were taken seriously, imaging was ordered immediately, and a complex 6.5 cm ovarian cyst was discovered. Dr. Soufi was my OB and I cannot recommend her enough. Her compassionate and thorough care, responsiveness and extensive experience / knowledge got me through some challenges. She was there in the hospital for follow-ups and came to check on me everyday (prenatal and postpartum). I am so thankful for her care and expertise every step of the way. Physicians & Clinical Care * This is a women-centered practice led by four outstanding female physicians. * My primary OB, Dr. Soufi, is caring, responsive, highly knowledgeable, and extremely competent. Throughout my pregnancy, I never had doubts about the quality of care I was receiving. * Near the end of my pregnancy, I met with the other three physicians in the practice in case one of them was on call during labor. Every doctor I met was attentive, compassionate, and clearly experienced. * The practice fosters an environment where no question is too small or too big. I always felt comfortable raising concerns and received thoughtful, thorough answers. Prenatal Care & Communication * The prenatal care was excellent for both me and my baby. Dr. Soufi and the team were consistently accessible and responsive whenever questions or concerns arose. * Communication throughout pregnancy was timely and reassuring, which made a significant difference during such an important life event. * The physicians take the time to listen and ensure patients understand their options and care plans. While it can occasionally mean waiting a little longer for an appointment, it also increases the likelihood that the physician who knows you and your pregnancy will be present for your delivery--something that is not always the case at other practices. Overall, I would highly recommend this practice to anyone seeking attentive, high-quality obstetric care. The combination of exceptional physicians, responsive communication, and patient-centered care made my pregnancy and delivery experience overwhelmingly positive.
